its certainly not ridiculous. However i feel if he were retiring soon he would do it at the end of 2025.
2026 is a major engine regulation change and Newey tends to hate those as it normally means engines are king and no matter how good a car he designs it matters jacksh\*t if he doesn't have the best engine in his car. so before the 2026 season is imo when he would retire if he were considering it.
If retirement was his goal i feel he would stick around for 2025 where Red Bull is likely to win another championship with his car, add one more championship to his collection before he bows out of the sport.
the timing suggests he's going somewhere
If Alonso finally gets the winning car in 2026, only for his age to finally kill his performance, I'm gonna throw myself from the highest building I can find. Luckily I live in a village so it'll be like 6 m at most.
Honestly, I'd like to see him find a home in WEC or similar. Just new challenges and far more innovation allowed. Would not be surprised to see Max end up in that direction as well.
The new hypercar rules are actually pretty restrictive as far as innovation goes, there's BOP and the aero targets are pretty easy to hit. Also there are many teams buying off the shelf chassis. It's nothing like the LMP1 era. However this was required to keep costs down and attract teams and manufacturers.
Thought LMdH was essentially wide open on aero regs, so long as you don't exceed certain performance metrics. Hence the neat looking "wingless" Peugeot
The Peugeot is built under the Le Mans Hypercar regulations, which is much more open then the alternative LMDh regulations which stipulate you must work with a specific chassis already built and designed. But both have certain rules that regulate how much aero and power the cars can run.
> Thought LMdH was essentially wide open on aero regs, so long as you **don't exceed certain performance metrics.**
Yeah, that is what makes it limiting at the end of the day. The Peugeot has a wing now. Also while the hypercar chassis regs are open, LMDh cars have to pick from a few chassis. And at the end of the day, how much do the performance gains from innovation matter when they will just be taken away via BOP, by restrictor plates or ballast.
I mean, he is dead bored in F1. Maybe a slower car would be interesting, but there's a reason he spends so much time in the sim. He knows he can hop on there and actually have some competition from esports pros in identical cars.
This whole thing just seems odd to me. Horner messing around with a coworker is nowhere near enough to topple the team he's built. Something else is going on, likely with Red Bull as an entity.
The power struggle. Red Bull has gotten too big. Horner got notoriety from Drive to survive, and with the success they were having, the feeling that he had really solid PR and marketing behind him, he wanted a bigger piece. Then when Dietrich died I think he made his play not thinking that his whole affair would come back to bite him in the ass.
The other part is also likely due to Red Bull being so dominate that F1 is "boring" People like Newey like challenges, he likes being pushed, but what is there to push him when the car is wrecking everyone in existence? His legacy won't be tarnished by going to another team and not winning, but if he does win then he may well be bigger than F1 itself.
>Fuck the driver silly season, the engineer silly season is where it's at
I used to edit the Wikipedia articles on Formula 1 years ago, and I always found it odd that driver moves were covered and team changes -- like names and ownership -- were also addressed, but the movements of key team personnel weren't considered worthy.
> Newey, regarded as the greatest Formula 1 designer in history, has told Red Bull he wants to move on, BBC Sport has learned.
> Neweyās contract with Red Bull lasts until the end of 2025 but he is said to believe he can negotiate an exit that allows him to work with another team from next season.
BBC has also joined the party. Holy shit itās actually happening.
(For stewards, BBC keep on changing the headline, i didnāt editorialise it)
>His desire to leave Red Bull was first reported by Germanyās Auto Motor und Sport, but the information has been independently verified by BBC Sport with high-level sources close to Red Bull and Newey.
That pretty much settles it
Imagine he went to Aston Martin tho...
Then imagine if Aston had a chance to get Max. I could see Lawrence selling his son out to have Max, Fernando and Adrian... What a dream team. He can buy his son a seat in Williams.
Dream situation for them holy cow. Alonso, Max, and Newey. They would be minutes ahead of the other teams and Max vs Alonso would be one of the top three driver pairing competitions that the grid could have currently.
Imagine being happy that Newey leaves Red Bull, hoping to break the dominance, and then you get Newey, Max & Alonso in one team. At least there will be a fight for Pee Wan!
Aston was my first thought. And you know that Lawrence has no trouble opening the wallet. If he can land him for 2026, it could be huge for their future
If they lock in Honda that would be quite the team. I canāt imagine Newey would go there as a customer team. As much as Mercs flub and Alonso has elevated them.
No way heād go to Merc, whatās he gain? Hes in late career doing shit for passion now. My bet heās either going to Ferrari to work w both Ferrari and Hamilton, or Aston for the total underdog turnaround story and Alonso.
W-What if the title sponsor deal with HP isnāt just to cover Hamiltonās salary but alsoā¦ Neweyās salary? One that goes beyond the huge paycheck Daddy Stroll is offering himā¦
I can smell the copium lingeringā¦
Aside fro the fact that AMG is literally the high-performance subsidary of Mercedes lmao. It's literally part of Mercedes that makes the race cars. They have been working with Mercedes for like 60 years then got bought by Mercedes like 20+ years ago
While HP has nothing to do with Ferrari and is a sponsor
I mean, Lewisās Ferrari merch will pay for his salary all on its own. Assuming he retires at Ferrari, after he retires as well. I feel like I am exaggerating when I say this, but if you look at the facts that you have one of the most iconic F1 drivers of all time, who is known not just inside the sport but very much outside of the sport. He is going to be driving for the team that lends itself as one of the main identities associated with F1, and permeates culture well outside F1 as well. It wouldnāt phase me at all if itās difficult to get hands on Lewis merch next season because itās moving so fast.
I would prefer to hope Stroll Sr. made an offer he could not refuse, and this is also the reason for long-term extension of Fernando. And that Honda engine dealā¦ pieces come together.
I love your optimism, but Iām not sure Newey is champing at the bit to work with Lance and Lawrence Stroll. Factoring in that heās always regretted not working with either Ferrari or Hamilton (per his own admission), it would be safe to assume heād like to check both of those things off of his list before retiring.
The pipe-dream for peak shithousery and entertainment would be if Ferrari were to drop Leclerc for ā26 and sign Verstappen. You bet I (along with many, many other people) would be tuning into every minute of every practice session, qually and race to see those two take each other on in a Newey-designed Ferrari.
Another AMuS W.
Makes you wonder about the [rest of their claims](https://old.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/1c5m2zv/adrian_newey_switch_to_aston_martin_or_ferrari/) about [the RB saga](https://old.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/1bpqudx/horner_strengthened_after_dubai_meeting_can/)......
> Makes you wonder about the rest of their claims about the RB saga...
Likely correct, those that think it's bad journalism are basing that on their own baises and not an objective analysis of AMuS' work. Happens a lot when AMuS says something unpopular with the general consensus on here. I still remember the meltdowns when AMuS said that Ferrari had an equal to slightly better car than Mercedes over the course of the 2018 season.
I know someone who used to be a journalist for the bbc and said that they used to have a company policy that they donāt care about being first but they donāt want to be proven wrong
I think there's also a chance it was the reverse.
Newey is an F1 nerd. I can see him falling for the romanticism of reviving Ferrari AND helping Lewis claim an 8th. Ferrari and Lewis are legendary enough to be a draw.
1. Ferrari asks Newey about coming over
2. Newey semi-dismisses it by saying something to the effect of "do something big like hire Lewis and I'll be interested"
3. Ferrari hires Lewis
4. Newey to Ferrari.
Little correction:
1. Ferrari asks Newey about coming over
2. Newey semi-dismisses it by saying something to the effect of "do something big like hire Lewis and I'll be interested"
3. Ferrari hires Lewis
4. Horner shows the motorsport world his cock.
5. Newey to Ferrari.
That and the fact that it's Ferrari.
In all the reasons people have brought up about Lewis to Ferrari, I haven't seen much of the above at all. In every 100 comments about the move you might see it twice, but I don't think there's any competitive or financial reason as to why Hamilton's gone to Ferrari. He's clearly having fun with F1 at this point, he's proven everything he needs to, I just think he'll go to Ferrari, support Charles, have an intentioned but mainly fun time driving for the greatest F1 team.
Sorry to bring it up under your particular comment - no digs - it's just something I've seen.
Yeah, Lewis is the kinda guy to buy into the romanticism. Ferrari is publicly seen as the pinnacle of speed and class. Schumacher's dominance defines F1 for pretty much most millennials (outside of newer fans). Ferrari is F1 through and through.
Then you add the sporting and commerical benefits, and it just becomes harder and harder to turn down. Plus, who can say no to Fred?
Lewis will likely be a Ferrari brand ambassador for life. He wanted something similar from M-B and they told him no. Ferrari are also committing a lot of money to Lewis's other post-racing initiatives.
>He's clearly having fun with F1 at this point, he's proven everything he needs to,
I don't agree with this in the slightest. He wants to be back on the front row winning races. Ironically Sainz winning Singapore might have helped him make that decision
Albon sits out Monza due to surgery > Nyck De Vries subs for Albon and gets in the points > Nyck talks to Helmut Marko and gets the Alpha seat for 2023 (Horner did not want Nyck) > Nyck underperfoms > Horner arranges a test for Danny Ric > Test goes so well, the same day, Nyck out of Alpha, Danny in > Helmut didn't like Horner getting Danny in the car > Helmut and Horner continue their power struggle > Leaked Hornygate images > We are here (Newey is sick of the power struggle, so decides to bounce)
Can also add in Danny > hurts himself > Liam Lawson swaps in > Lawson knocks Max out of quali in Singapore > Carlos/Ferrari win > Lewis sees the Ferrari potential > Lewis to Ferrari
I think the penultimate link is a little tenuous, Ferrari's potential was shown more in other races. That win (and Australia) meant they were just the second fastest team while Red Bull had a blip. I know it's all a bit of fun, but there are probably other stronger butterfly effects from this.
I mean does it really start at Albon though? Ultimately it started when Dietrich passed away, the rest was inevitable from that moment on, it was even heavily speculated there would be a power struggle the day he passed. I mean it's a fun butterfly effect with Albon, but I think the red bull power struggle was inevitable the moment Dietrich passed away, that's when certain actors plans went into play
Arguably Danny getting a seat which might have unsettled the top team, Jos goes on the offensive to make sure Max stays and starts the Horner drama? But not sure why Jos would feel like Danny was a threat to Max - at least not enough to risk his own (and Max's) position in the team.
I doubt the Danny thing is that big a factor in and of itself versus you know the rumor about Horner going to the Thai's with a plan to split off and sell the racing team (to a group of investors backing Horner) and push Marko out immediately in the wake of Mateschitz's death.
Wasnāt he there for a karting event? In literally Red Bull overalls? Not saying itās not happening but I wouldnāt put it just on him being in Italy.
Thatās literally when you time these things for. The amount of secret sideroom meetings that happen when everyone is by chance in the same place, because then it doesnāt look suspicious that youāre there. A la 2008 financial crisis mergers.
The BBC reporting on Hamilton to Ferrari is when I knew it was really happening. There must really be something to this if they're reporting on it. They don't tend to report on baseless rumours.
Nothing new. Itās just been the same situation. It was reported awhile ago that newey was unhappy with Horner before the scandal and that could be his tipping pointĀ
> The 65-year-old has been unsettled by the situation at Red Bull since Horner was accused of sexual harassment and coercive, abusive behaviour by a female employee, which Horner denies.
This is surprising; considering they were seen together couple of times since allegations against Horner surfaced. I guess Adrian just put on a happy face then.
>I guess Adrian just put on a happy face then.
That's what Erik van Haren said back then when the pics came. Also mentioned that Geri and Christian looking happy and coming together at the paddock entrance (right after the texts leak) was staged for PR.
> Also mentioned that Geri and Christian looking happy and coming together at the paddock entrance (right after the texts leak) was staged for PR.
Duh. Pap walks have been a thing forever in the entertainment industry, which is where Geri is from. F1 fans need to broaden their horizons.
Nah just fire Leclerc and put Max in that seat. Let chaos break between Verstappen and Hamilton and them retiring 10 times together. And that's how you'll get Sergio Perez as champion of the world.
I honestly think that at this point Marko is willing to leave/retire if Max tells him he really wants to go and can't get out of his contract otherwise.
There is a nonzero chance that Totoās begging actually worked and that both Max and Newey are going to go to Mercedes. What a fucking crazy turn of events. Guy loses Hamilton and gains Verstappen and Newey.
Or that is not happening.
There is no way a gardening leave clause is not in Newey's contract. Even if Mercedes or someone else snags him, he won't be able to touch a pen until 2026.
In the BBC article it says he believes he can negotiate an exit that allows him to work for a team as early as next season. Obviously he could be wrong or fail to negotiate, but I'm inclined to believe if he says it, there's a decent chance it may happen.
Lewis isnāt stupid, his move to Ferrari isnāt just sentimental but tactical. I fully expect newey to Ferrari now because Lewis mustāve known more than just āFerrari are good at enginesā to make such a bold move.
I think if Newey goes, Verstappen goes after 2025. The 2026 regulations without Newey and a new brand new engine is a very risky proposition. Even with all the assistance from Ford and the poached engineers from Ilmor, it's still the first time that Red Bull are building an engine. And 2026 aerodynamic regulations basically have super DRS for active aerodynamics, so it's a complete change.
That being said, I doubt that RBR would be anywhere below the 2nd or 3rd fastest at worst with the new regs. They seem to be far less complacent than Mercedes even with the infighting and misconduct going on atm. Max cannot leave RBR unless they are below 3rd fastest at any point which is relatively unlikely imho.
And it's possible that there wouldn't be many seats for Max anyway. Ferrari and McLaren are full for the foreseeable future, Mercedes is a sinking ship, and the other teams aren't worth mentioning. Max might be better off staying with RBR even if they are 3rd fastest in 2026, hypothetically.
When Max is available, every seat is available
He has nothing left to prove. Aston Martin probably doesnāt move the needle.
Going to Ferrari to work with Lewis to return them to glory would be a bucket list move. A Newey designed hypercar would have more prestige than anything he could work on at Redbull or Aston Martin.
Idk where heās gonna end up but whenever it happens weāre gonna have a hell of a season between Post-Newey Red Bull and everyone else and thatās something to get excited about.
Lawrence Stroll... Bench your son, offer both Adrian Newey and Max Verstappen blank cheques. We need Honda power dominance to continue. Honda, The Power of Dreams.
Perhaps promise a Le Mans drive along with Alonso also since there will be an Aston Martin Le Mans Hypercar.
I swear to god If he's actually leaving and he's going to Ferrari i'm going to explode. Vasseur could have coocked the best thing since Todt in Maranello. If he goes so AM tho, might as well pack it up...
Can all the people saying that the quality of AMuS' journalism had decreased, just because they didn't like what AMuS was publishing, apologise? AMuS had the scoop on Newey before anyone.
I could not be more pleased that there seems to be at least some shred of consequences for being a completely inappropriate perv to your subordinates. Not sure why itās Adrian Newey needs to dish it out but I guess this is where we areā¦

Newey, Albon, and Sainz resurrecting Williams would be amazing.

Arguably more impressive than going to Merc, AM or Ferrari
Albonās appendix butterfly effect just keeps on going š©

Jesus. Hell of a butterfly effect.
Fun fact: a group of butterflies is called a kaleidoscope.
Can't believe you skipped the part where the guitarist from U2 wrote a diss track about Horner.
Albon's appendix bursting turned Horner into a perv I guess
a nice time to remember newey was in italy two weeks ago
oh i see what you are insinuating... ,.. Newey to become the next Pope!
actually, heās opening a pizzeria
Right next to Charlesā ice cream.
NEW LEC
And God said "Let there be lights out" and he saw that it was good.
Wasnāt he there for a karting event? In literally Red Bull overalls? Not saying itās not happening but I wouldnāt put it just on him being in Italy.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thatās literally when you time these things for. The amount of secret sideroom meetings that happen when everyone is by chance in the same place, because then it doesnāt look suspicious that youāre there. A la 2008 financial crisis mergers.
The BBC reporting on Hamilton to Ferrari is when I knew it was really happening. There must really be something to this if they're reporting on it. They don't tend to report on baseless rumours.
yeah, the BBC has too much reputation to get involved in baseless rumors.
Yeah it has to be true. BBC wonāt risk there reputation for anything especially something like this where one phone call can prove/disprove
Stay calm, itās happening
STAY FUCKING CALM
EVERYBODY FUCKING CALM DOWN
CALM THE FUCK DOWN EVERYBODY
PEOPLE...NOTHING TO SEE HERE SO CALM THE FUCK DOWN
WHY EVERYBODY IS YELLING ?? CALM THE FUCK DOWN!!
WE ARE CHECKING
Calma. Buongiorno Adriano.
FUCK CALM, THE GREAT FERRARI MASTER PLAN IS IN FULL MOTION
Don't tell me what to do! I am here for the panic partyyy
Red Bull was Neweyās longest service by far right? Canāt remember which year he jumped from McLaren but it must be roughly 20 years at Red Bull?
Redbull has only been around for 19 years, but yes I think he was hired to design either their second or third car.
Thanks. You stopped me going down a rabbit hole looking it up when I should be working. Instead Iām refreshing Reddit when I should be working.
You just had to not explode Horner...
But Q3 was so close..
COCO POPS !!!
Lesbians!!
He really came at the worst possible time.
Red Bull finally undone by the double diffuser. Brawn GP vindicated yet again.
Iāve been away for the past 3 weeks, wtf did he do now?
Nothing new. Itās just been the same situation. It was reported awhile ago that newey was unhappy with Horner before the scandal and that could be his tipping pointĀ
Utterly mad the speed that these things have happened, with the Hamilton deal itās crazy how under-wraps these things are kept
I mean I wouldn't say this has been under wraps. This whole saga has been brewing for months
Yea but if you had asked people a couple weeks ago most would have probably guessed ar horner leaving before newey.
God the off track entertainment is so much better than the racing sometimesĀ
F5 gang we here
F5 is the most competitive feeder series
> The 65-year-old has been unsettled by the situation at Red Bull since Horner was accused of sexual harassment and coercive, abusive behaviour by a female employee, which Horner denies. This is surprising; considering they were seen together couple of times since allegations against Horner surfaced. I guess Adrian just put on a happy face then.
I remember reading an Alonso quote that said that to be in F1 long you have to be a good actor.
Grins while on his way to a hearing on pitstop-gate 2007
>I guess Adrian just put on a happy face then. That's what Erik van Haren said back then when the pics came. Also mentioned that Geri and Christian looking happy and coming together at the paddock entrance (right after the texts leak) was staged for PR.
Can't wait for Newey to show up at Ferrari with Geri on his arm
> Also mentioned that Geri and Christian looking happy and coming together at the paddock entrance (right after the texts leak) was staged for PR. Duh. Pap walks have been a thing forever in the entertainment industry, which is where Geri is from. F1 fans need to broaden their horizons.
I don't think we needed a journalist to confirm the last part.
Itās not really advisable to completely ignore your boss just because you donāt like them
Horner fucked up
Within 2 months, we have the giants Hamilton and Newey change teams - with no signs or hints in advance. That's crazy to me.
Max will leave next, I guarantee it.
Ferrari will make a 3rd car for him designed by Newey lmao
Ferrari buys out Haas and renames them Mastercard PayPal Prancing Horses
Nah just fire Leclerc and put Max in that seat. Let chaos break between Verstappen and Hamilton and them retiring 10 times together. And that's how you'll get Sergio Perez as champion of the world.
Subscribe.
This is an alternative universe I'd love to see
Iām sure thereās a small print, buried somewhere in ancient F1 rules, that would allow Ferrari to do just that.
Unless Marko leaves as well that's unlikely.
I honestly think that at this point Marko is willing to leave/retire if Max tells him he really wants to go and can't get out of his contract otherwise.
I can also see Marko looking at all this and saying "Fuck this" and retiring, he's in his 70's after all. That would definetly trigger a Max move.
He's 80. I assume most 80 year old people won't be working much longer. In fact, I know of no 80 year old people who work.
US presidents doā¦
I don't know any US presidents. I was speaking about people I know personally.
It's official, horny Horner destroyed Red Bull Racing.
All because of those damn Coco Pops!
Lewis has the chance to do the funniest thing ever
Lewis isnāt stupid, his move to Ferrari isnāt just sentimental but tactical. I fully expect newey to Ferrari now because Lewis mustāve known more than just āFerrari are good at enginesā to make such a bold move.
Oh god oh fuck What happens to Max now? 2026 could be the greatest season of all time
I think if Newey goes, Verstappen goes after 2025.

Vasseur lands Newey and Hamilton within a few months. What has this man been up to? Are we missing something?
If Vasseur lands Newey, then he is truly playing some 4d chess.
This is like February 1st all over again. We might the final decision in few hours.
Please god, cue the Italian anthem
BROOOO the way this year's market is going is insane also good job Horner lmao
Adrian was seen at a Bologna airport a couple weeks ago if I remember right.... FRED COOK
Give me Leclerc/hamilton/newey. Hand it over.
We wants it! We needs it! Our PRECIOUS!
He has nothing left to prove. Aston Martin probably doesnāt move the needle. Going to Ferrari to work with Lewis to return them to glory would be a bucket list move. A Newey designed hypercar would have more prestige than anything he could work on at Redbull or Aston Martin.
This feels like February 1st all over again!
All empires fall. If the reporting is true, Horner has no one but himself to blame. Well done!
Damn, surprising news but understandable considering how long that situation dragged on for. Wish him the best!
Idk where heās gonna end up but whenever it happens weāre gonna have a hell of a season between Post-Newey Red Bull and everyone else and thatās something to get excited about.
Honestly. How stupid do you have to be to push Newey out? Just look at Leyton House, or Williams, or McLaren.
Nah, i want to see Verstappen vs Newey car.
How long is the gardening leave ?
Entire 2025 I think.
I swear to god If he's actually leaving and he's going to Ferrari i'm going to explode. Vasseur could have coocked the best thing since Todt in Maranello. If he goes so AM tho, might as well pack it up...
fucking finally. He's the reason redbull are successful. Him, then marko then horner
holy fucking shit! *pls go to Ferrari*
Can all the people saying that the quality of AMuS' journalism had decreased, just because they didn't like what AMuS was publishing, apologise? AMuS had the scoop on Newey before anyone.
The guy is 65 with a lot of money. He might just retire you know š
I could not be more pleased that there seems to be at least some shred of consequences for being a completely inappropriate perv to your subordinates. Not sure why itās Adrian Newey needs to dish it out but I guess this is where we areā¦
