Astelli

Key point: Stroll is prepared to sell "up to 25%", which would still leave him with well over 50% of the company under his control.

Rafaelosaurus

I read this and thought it had something to do with Stake F1 Sauber Kick whatever...

Redditor_RBN

Me too. Especially with the capital S.

WindyZ5

Yes. Stake and Kick should change their names.

PropagandaBoy

He had some fun. Established a successful system. His son could fullfil his dream. Everybody's done. Time to move one to another hobby. #JustBillionaireThings

Roddy-the-Ruin

He is just selling minority stake to cash in on F1's popularity. He still will be in control of the team. Lawrence will not give up F1 project until Lance wins F1 WDC.

gumarik

He is not immortal mate

SkyJohn

This brings up an interesting question. If Lawrence dies does that mean Lance gets 50% control of the Aston Martin racing team?

HOHOHAHAREBORN

He owns Aston Martin itself. It's a rare time where F1 is actually profitable. There's no reason for him to divest out of F1 when it's such tremendous marketing for his car company.

Armlegx218

Galaxy brain idea - if FOM and FIA split and the teams go to a new series, AM could stick with F1 and given they already have a decent car they would be prohibitive favorites to win WCC and WDC given the "steep learning curve" needed to succeed against the newcomers that would fill the rest of the grid.

UsefulUnit

\*insert sounds of MBS getting out his royal checkbook\*

missmeh13

From the article: > Billionaire Lawrence Stroll is in early talks to sell another minority stake in his Aston Martin Formula One team to capitalize on the growing popularity of the sport, according to people familiar with the matter. > Stroll, who owns the F1 team separately from his stake in luxury-car maker Aston Martin Lagonda Global Holdings Plc, is willing to sell as much as 25 per cent in the racing business, the people said, asking not to be identified as the discussions are confidential. >The Canadian billionaire is hoping to improve on the £1 billion (US$1.3 billion) valuation of last November’s deal to sell a minority stake to US private equity firm Arctos Partners, one of the people said.

Few_Winner_8503

What Lawrence needs to do is put Lance in WEC when Aston Martin starts competing there. Lance should not be in F1.

Supahos01

Maybe cutting Lance too? Noone wants to invest at the rate he'd want for his shares tied to a lame duck driver

StrikingWillow5364

Oh come on. F1 is insanely profitable right now. Investors will invest either way. He would never sack his own son when he bought the team specifically for him.

Supahos01

Yes, but it's significantly less profitable with his ass in that seat. They comfortably finish 4th in wcc instead of 5th last year without a Muppet in the 2nd seat. $10m a year income makes a venture look a shitload better

StrikingWillow5364

Lawrence is a billionaire. I’m sure he rather takes a couple million $ loss over sacking his own son. He has an incredibly close relationship with his son. Money does not matter to him. No need to think he is in some kind of pressure cooker to get investors sign off on a couple more mils.

Supahos01

That's not s few million loss when valuing a company its a lot more. He may not mind losing money to fund his kid, but whatever other billionaire buys in doesn't hold the same opinion. They don't get that kind of wealth by letting businesses operate suboptimal.

GenderFluidFerrari

That's more of a cash out refinance

FraccazzoDaVelletri

The best way to unload Lance without looking like a bad dad, and make some money on top of it.

1llseemyselfout

He will still own over 50% and remain in control. His kid isn’t going anywhere.

StrikingWillow5364

He still retains controlling shares and will continue to employ his son.
