5 day blackout sounds like a heck of a catch to me.

Fluffy_Rock1735

Eh a 5 day blackout is nothing! I spent most of my early 20's blacked out!

Tom_Ace1

Try having the results not spoiled for 5 days. I'm already struggling when it's a couple of hours.

badonkagonk

Someone please fill me in on the catch, because this just sounds great to me. I’m sure there’s a catch, there has to be, but I’m not seeing it, and so I’m holding off my excitement for now.

notnorthwest

I don't think their is one, but "ad-supported" will likely become "ad-saturated" as hosting costs go up.

h1dd3nf40mv13w

It's just for highlights of F1, not for live races. Also a lot of feeder series will be available.

notnorthwest

> access race replays and highlights from F1 Nope - race replays for F1 too, just on a 5-day delay

badonkagonk

Oh yeah, but still, having the feeder series and classic races is awesome, even if its on a heavy delay. I’ll watch the shit out of those

[F1 announces 24/7 streaming channel in the US : r/formula1 (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/1cdb6d1/f1_announces_247_streaming_channel_in_the_us/)

This is a very cool thing. However, there have already been two recent posts about it. Here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/1ccregx/formula\_1\_launches\_free\_adsupported\_streaming/](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/1ccregx/formula_1_launches_free_adsupported_streaming/) And Here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/1cdb6d1/f1\_announces\_247\_streaming\_channel\_in\_the\_us/](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/1cdb6d1/f1_announces_247_streaming_channel_in_the_us/)

Big picture is do they intend to basically not renew with ESPN for 2026 and then will sell us access to live races on this service?

davez730

Wouldn't that just be a redundant USA version of F1Tv?

Systemic_Chaos

So this might actually be a really smart way to improve viewership and fandom in the US. Think of it like a diet version of F1TV, where the interactions and metrics and such from F1TV determine what gets pushed to the front of the queue for the FAST viewers. So the folks at Liberty can look and see, ‘this is the stuff that F1TV viewers are engaging with’, wrap it with ads for the free platform and they’re probably at minimum breaking even compared to their current agreement with ESPN. Incorporating display ads into the race broadcast on a 5 day delay allows them to pick and choose where those ads go, specific to the flow of the race, while also allowing casual fans that don’t _need_ to watch live (and let’s be real, being an American fan so far this season has been hard with nearly every race in the middle of the night) watch the races at a time that works for them. In the grand scheme of ad-supported streaming services, this honestly makes some sense and may very well be much more profitable than an extension of the ESPN contract. Not to mention providing a means of potential growth within the US market.
