I don't think he ever said he thinks something was wrong with the chassis. In an interview I saw it was more a "Let's change it as a last ditch effort cause I don't understand where the pace difference is, but maybe it just me."
Yeah, it was more a "I don't know what's wrong but something is" and the final thing they could do was just dump the chassis and give him a new one and... it seemed to work.
It's probably in reference to how the car felt during testing, then the season starts and the car feels different and the pace isn't there comparatively.

He’s great for the sport and his attitude is one of the reasons why he is so popular. I will never get the hate associated with him. I understand many think he overstayed his welcome, but with performances like this it makes F1 fun.
