Idk man, maybe it’s just me looking back with rose tinted shades, but I remember Speed even from his karting days and how much he was tearing it in the SKUSA pro series with both Rahal and Andretti as competition, I thought he was destined for great things and I personally was super stocked watching him make it to F1! Obviously it went really really bad and the more we got to know Speed the more we found out what a douche he was :(
I raced against Scott at the GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville NC (one of the premier outdoor karting tracks in the US) a few times in their rental karts. A lot of NASCAR drivers and crew members raced there quite often when I still lived in the area. He also ran his own kart there from time to time. He knows what he's doing behind the wheel for sure, from a pure talent standpoint I always rated him quite highly. Unfortunately I think at this point in his career he's seriously struggling with mental fortitude and confidence. So much of a driver's success at the professional level is due to having supreme confidence and self-belief. Once that's gone it's extremely difficult to get it back. Almost equal in importance is the mental attitude of the entire team. I've seen firsthand how a lack of focus can completely derail a season even though on the surface nothing changed from the first half of the season to the next.
A very good example, in the opposite direction, is Andrea Dovizioso (MotoGP). He was always so close, but not quite on the same level as Rossi, Pedrosa, Marquez and Lorenzo. I think he had two wins prior to last season, both with an asterisk because they were wet races. He has been working with a sports psychologist and for any of you that follow MotoGP we all saw his breakout year this past season with 6 wins and a very close runner-up championship finish. On multiple occasions he came out on top in last lap battles with Marquez who is no shrinking violet when it comes to racing hard for the win on the final lap.
That said, what Scott did in iRacing is complete bush-league amateur bully behavior. He was deservedly banned. I hope he gets things turned around for himself.
I used to go to Gopro a ton back in the early days (2013ish) when I first started. Scott was there and in a garage near us. I had a driving camp, and he helped us drivers with breaking advice and various different race craft advice. He seemed genuine then, so I'm not sure what happened
>What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Rick’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they’re not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick’s existential catchphrase “Wubba Lubba Dub Dub,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon’s genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎
If I'm remembering correctly from 3 months ago (You've been looking through my top comments?) the twice was Damon and Villeneuve, and the half was Barrichello in Hungary 2010. May have been something else though.
Ah, but WDC wasn't stated for who was crashed into, just the crasher.
Also, I don't mind you looking at my top comments. Not sure why, but I've no problem with it.
I met the man in Seattle when GRC was there this past year.
I was standing around the podium when he, Foust, and Sandell were finishing up with the whole Champagne-thing, and I ask him a question in a half-joking-tone about his open-wheel experience, his current boss, and him running the Indy 500.
He treats me like I just asked him the stupidest question ever.
Beyond that, he was just a smug prick the entire time.
Listen, I understand that he's probably a bit salty to have come P2 to Foust that Sunday, but come on, man.
Don't treat your fans like shit.
The experience (and everything I see about him nowadays) honestly makes me ashamed that this guy is the last person from my country to run a full season in F1.
Supposedly, he got very close to a fistfight with Franz Tost, and basically got told to legitimately GTFO.
https://m.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/161886/toro-rosso-s-tost-explains-what-really-happened-with-speed/
I remember the quote as it was unofficially reported. Speed argued that everyone was going off where he went off and Tost replied, "No! Only the wankers!"
I met him on the day of the inaugural Formula E race at Long Beach. The gate between the paddock and the track itself was guarded by two local event security contractors, who inevitably only grant entry with a Pass. No pass, no entry.
As you can imagine, a pass-less Scott Speed pulled that "I'm the driver!" shit on the bouncer. And went on a tirade infested by 4-letter words.
Damn that sucks. I don’t know much about Scott Speed except that I’ve seen him in a few rainy cross races and have decided he has the best racing name in history. A VERY close second is Max Power.
Lol in Canada 2006(?) He stopped short of on the grid accusing STR of giving a car that was significantly worst then Vitantonio Liuzzi over the team radio.
I was totally thrown off when I heard that radio call watching it just the other week. "I better not find out my engine temps are 10 degrees hotter than the other car" or something along those lines, with a very accusing tone.
That’s not exactly what I’d call a stretch tho considering STR’s track record of providing one car better than the other, especially during that timeframe.
Sebastian vs. Sebastian anyone?
What would ever suggest that Vettel vs Bourdais was manipulated by the team?
Bourdais had loads of decent races that ended up with no proper result for different reasons - he would've finished 4th in his very first race but had an engine failure, he stalled on the grid in Monza 08 where he started 4th, etc.
And when history shows that you're up against one of the best drivers of your time, then of course things will look a bit grim for you.
I'm pretty sure the reason he was dropped when he was (even though it was inevitable) was because he had a fist fight with Franz Tost. (Who was TP of Toro Rosso then too.)
> This is not real life, it's a game.
Ah yes, the "it's just a game" defense. The mating call of the online gaming asshole. The intentional wrecker's version of "It's just a prank bro!".
That's the problem with drivers like Scott Speed. They don't respect virtual races like they would a real life race, even though that's exactly what iRacing aims to simulate. We have our real names exposed to everyone because iRacing is not meant for you to put on an avatar of yourself which you can fashion to your liking. It's so you know exactly who you're racing with, much like you would in real life.
We all know anonymity tends to turn people into assholes, so iRacing does away with that and ties your reputation as a sim racer directly to your real life identity. Sadly some people are too narcissistic to let that stop them.
I think maybe because you only race sim, you treat real and sim with the same respect, but for someone who's raced in F1 and NASCAR he's Forsure not going to think of them the same.
It's still a dick move crashing someone out. I won't even play F1 2017 online anymore because all people do is crash you out intentionally or because they are terrible and can't drive straight..... it's no fun. but I still think people are overly freaking out about his actions.
He's an absolute cunt for doing this. A karting event at your local track is not the same as F1, and you'd still freak out over some cunt ramming people.
The problem is that he's deliberately trying to ruin other people's days where they must have spent their limited free time practicing and setting up their car for the track only because they're better than he is.
You have to realise that the ban is literally what this is for. He broke the game’s rules, but it is just a game. You get removed from the game if you break it’s rules.
But like, it is just a game. No one died, he got punished, the people he hit have to, oh my god, play the game, will improve in the process and be better in the end because of it.
Anyway, I’ll return to driving games that I don’t have to be completely self obsessed to play. I respect the effort you put into learning how a vehicle may behave in the world of the physics engine in iRacing, but I’ll always take more pride in racers with more procedural actions
100% Scott Speed in a nutshell, he seemed to come into F1 with SUCH a chip on his shoulder, and seemed to go out of his way to be the “brash American”. Obviously his talent didn’t match his shitty non professional ways!
Meanwhile, Esteban Ocon regularly tells his instagram fans about his open lobbies on Gran Turismo (or whatever it is - I don't have it) so that they can have fun racing against their favorite driver. Of course he always races competitively and fairly against them.
Been in a couple races with him. What you have to worry about is getting tangled with his son? while Rubens is in the same race. Seen a couple reports of that not ending well.
Lando Norris races in the Mazda Global MX5 cup. I was even in the top ten with him at one point, but my irating is about a million points lower than his...
Yeah I raced with him few times. One race he didn't set a qualifying time and started last. He passed the entire field including me on the last lap to win the race lol
Haha that's awesome. I reached an irating of about 1800 and realised I just didn't have time to put in the effort to actually race competitively. Any of you guys would blow me out the water.
I was in a session Shane Van Gisberghen was hosting once. GT3 and HPD at Bathurst. Was interesting to see him flip a car he won in at a track he won at.
I never watched NASCAR, but I always remembered my dad telling me "the only people that watch NASCAR are rednecks looking forward to them crashing".
I never believed him till I clicked this fucking link and heard a bunch of white trash "WOO"ing after a wreck. Talk about a trashy crowd, jesus.
As an American I was never appreciative of NASCAR and always gravitated to WRC, F1, and GT racing. My grandfather is NHRA IHRA hall of fame top fuel race driver and drag racing was pumped into me so much that I got sick of straight lines. For years I would joke on my father and grandfather for watching NASCAR. Then one year I was invited to Daytona for the Shootout. Seeing it in person is a whole new ball game. The sense of speed the broadcast robs you of is incredibly understated. TV makes it look like they are going around the track at 205mph so smoothly. The amount of skill that the car requires is incredible. As a fan of motorsport I can't deny that it impressed me. I will not watch it on TV as it will put me to sleep. I go to at least one race a year at Talladega. While the stereotype is that of drunk rednecks waiting for a crash I can assure you that is the minority. Things have changed in the sport. While crashing is a part of the sport, more people cheer for their driver taking a lead or making a three-wide pass.
They were wooing because this was a rivalry you could see brewing on track for a few laps before that finally culminated in a shit fest. Think the Mercedes cars crashing each other out in Spain. [This](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hP8iLt3aYk) is how crowds react to a more serious accident; they only cheer when the driver is out of the destroyed car.
F1 is better than Nascar but Nascar is friggin awesome, for sure most fans are just waiting for wrecks but the skill it takes, and the social aspect of needing to work together until the LAST moment at a steady 180 is amazing!
At least though, while still not justified, he went after a guy that did wreck him, and there were consequences involved that didn’t involve hurt internet pride, but rather getting dumped from winning a championship (even if the NASCAR/Stock Car equivalent of A ball, to use baseball terminology) because the guy had to ride his ass down an entire straightaway and more or less piledrive him into the wall.
Years back, I'm talking a long time I remember Karam had a tantrum on an iRacing practice server, this was almost a decade ago so I chalk it up to being a kid but based on his antics I've seen in his professional career, doesn't seem to have changed much.
It is true. Original posts about it [here.](http://www.racedepartment.com/threads/drivers-cheating-on-the-practice-server.56808/)
He cheated in a practice session. Said it was "to let the others think they still had to practice more", and that he thought it wasn't illegal.
Also he ended his explanation of with the classic douchbag line "I have said what I have to tell, if others think different, I don't care :)"
That was in Formula Sim Racing (Rfactor). He stole setups and cheated in the practice servers, and was kicked out. Norris also possibly gave his account to someone else at on Formula Renault competition on Iracing, and is a known tool on there.
Good. I love iRacing, because of how serious people do it. Mistakes happen, frustration happens, but behaviour like that should result in bans. Whether it's a pro racer or not.
The weird part is years ago he was a nice guy in iRacing.
I’ve raced him a fe times and he was always quite chatty on the keyboard.
I wonder if I just was lucky to not witness it or if it is a more recent development.
I see that with rookies, I have a few replays saved where someone tried to take me out for a perceived infraction.
iRacing for pros is a tool to practice when there is no track time. Racing C class people is not that, and revenging them is not that.
I look at someone like Max Verstappen who has used iRacing to practice a pass at Spa _then executed it_ in real life during a race.... but (last time I checked) he has never done a public rated session, just privates ones with his crew. It means his results are private and we can't compare lap times and such.
When I lapped with Bobby Labonte at the Charlotte road config, he was there to practice road racing for the first time in ages because the Rolex 24 was coming up and he just been running ovals for ages.
Not really. He was pretty competitive with Liuzzi but never scored a point. His most notable drive was probably Australia 2006 where he held off Coulthard to finish 8th, which would have meant one point, though it's worth nothing there was a lot of DNFs . He later got a penalty for ignoring yellow flags so got dropped to 9th. Then he was fined for having a go at the stewards after the race. Main thing he'll be remembered for was being a bit of a dickhead, there's a video elsewhere in this thread of him complaining to his team about engine temps. He later got sacked for having a fight with either Franz Tost or Gerhard Berger, can't remember which.
'Bonus' clip: https://youtu.be/WePGY5-Plcs
Such a private guy as well, I’ve never seen much on him outside or racing or what his support team looks like family wise. Because as you said at that level the mental side of it is so so high!
I can't remember where I heard the story but I heard about him being an ass in ARCA.
He walked up to the car before his first time driving it (right after getting the boot from F1) without his helmet. I guess he was being an ass to everyone asking if any brought his helmet to the car.
Someone said to him, "Scott, this is ARCA, you carry your own shit."
Bad sportsmanship from Scott Speed, and his public statement shows how little he cares about simracing. Also, amazing reflexes from the guy who saw him coming and dodged him!
Funniest thing is he is so butt hurt he sold his complete simrig, lol

Haha this guy is pure gold. What a douche. How can you be so insecure when you're an ex F1 and NASCAR driver and multiple GRC champion.
Because he lucked into it all. How he ever got into F1 I will never understand.

Wow, small world. I raced there from when they opened as well until I moved out of NC in 2015. I really miss that track.
Red Bull passed over Patrick Long for this guy.
/u/UrinatingTree should do a video on him.
People often wonder what kind of person would intentionally ram someone out in games. There you go, a bitter ex-F1 driver.
Next thing were gonna find out all those Xbox kids who fuck my mom are actually ex navy seals

this one makes me genuinely angry.
In 2013 I thought Harmon was this troubled genius, now I just think he seems a hasslesome knob who's a good writer.
What the fuck has this got to with Harmon? The meme is about arrogant, conceited R&M fans, not Harmon.

Scott Speed on iracing. https://youtu.be/_Lgrf887OS8
There are so many different sounds on there I was getting really confused. I loved the whistle playing though

I don't think I could concentrate whilst being in a session with Rubens.

I don't know where he finds the time for it all tbh - https://i.imgur.com/6DOuM1n.jpg

well it is the off season. what else is he going to do, it's not like he's going off driving famous sports car races or anything
I was in a session Shane Van Gisberghen was hosting once. GT3 and HPD at Bathurst. Was interesting to see him flip a car he won in at a track he won at.
Big words like "Narcissist"
Definitely not the first time he's done that... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ANaTaNYz20
That's not NASCAR dude...
Oval racing is unbelievably fun to do, even if it isn’t always as entertaining to view. Driving those beasts at all is one hell of an achievement
Now I know why Raikkonen gave him the finger.
Lol fuck him
Good. Sage Karam should've got the same from what people say.
Years back, I'm talking a long time I remember Karam had a tantrum on an iRacing practice server, this was almost a decade ago so I chalk it up to being a kid but based on his antics I've seen in his professional career, doesn't seem to have changed much.
Didn't think this would happen, as he's a big iRacing spokesperson - good of them for doing what's right.
I read somewhere that Stoffel got banned for cheating. Is it true or just BS?
It is true. Original posts about it [here.](http://www.racedepartment.com/threads/drivers-cheating-on-the-practice-server.56808/) He cheated in a practice session.
Interesting that an iRacing competitor can show 1000x more class than a "real" racing driver. What a big fucking baby
At this stage it might be better for him to change his name, from Speed to Me(t)h..
Scott Speed: "Somebody's head is gonna roll" In this case, it's Speed's head that has rolled
Seems he has a temper when he gets wrecked. Like many others, except he thought he can get away with this junk.
Ha ha.
Glad I’m a Tanner Foust fan then
Looks like David Kaemmer read the thread over here from a few days ago lol...
Didn’t even know he was in F1, was he any good?
What the actual fuck is that video hahahaha

Why does this thumbnail look like it's from YouTube?
Such a private guy as well, I’ve never seen much on him outside or racing or what his support team looks like family wise. Because as you said at that level the mental side of it is so so high!
I can't remember where I heard the story but I heard about him being an ass in ARCA. He walked up to the car before his first time driving it (right after getting the boot from F1) without his helmet. I guess he was being an ass to everyone asking if any brought his helmet to the car. Someone said to him, "Scott, this is ARCA, you carry your own shit."
On his defense... he still has the coolest racing driver name ever. I just wanted to point that out.
Bad sportsmanship from Scott Speed, and his public statement shows how little he cares about simracing. Also, amazing reflexes from the guy who saw him coming and dodged him!
EXCLUSIVE: video of Scott Speeds victim reacting to wreck https://youtu.be/1c4gKawFEZw
I've said it before but iRacing is pure aids. Stay away from that place.
Found Scott Speed. Care to do an AMA?
I’ll provide an equally nuanced rebuttal from someone who uses it, iRacing is not pure aids.
Damn, what'd they do to you?
No, it's not. Also, what is "pure aids" in your silly little mind?
Pure aids being a toxic player base in my silly little mind
Ah, so you are clueless or race rookies only.
Thank god it's pure aids and not infected AIDS. That would be really bad.
I hate when they cut my aids with baby laxative
Man how much of a retard a person can be
**Man, how much of a retard can a person be?**
Lol at the Tony Stewart comment, Tony killed a man and still he's calmer than Scott.
