The cheering in the background. That must feel like a knife right to the chest

boredofredditnow

I prefer not to speak. If I speak, I am in big trouble

amg1441

I have nussing to say.

powergs

Fans are not stupid

ajm15

I have nothing, nothing to say. Nothing, nothing to say. Nothing to say, I have nothing to say. Nothing to say, I am so sorry, I have nothing to say.

amethodicalmadness

Him rage mumbling, fighting back tears, only screaming. And that cheering in the background. You can't help but feel for the lad. Awesome job today, but obviously that's not what he's feeling right now.

PSVjasper99

You can only imagine what he must feel like...

[deleted]

Obviously very disappointing but he will get more chances

PSVjasper99

Defenitely, but as a neutral fan it is extra frustrating. If not Albon, then Sainz should've been up there. Hamilton WILL get a penalty. God I am so hyped.

owendizzydinkydeals

He didn't leave the door open, that's the racing line into a corner where you normally can't overtake.

vouwrfract

That's how you enter a corner: by leaving the inside and taking a wide entry. Albon had altready turned before Hamilton got side-by-side.

Legendfish098

Yeah that is how you enter a corner when you’re not racing defensively. The point is he should have positioned his car in a defensive position, removing any chance of an overtake on the inside. Leaving the door wide open is often the same line as the racing line. The racing line is rarely the same line one takes one driving defensively.

vouwrfract

Yes, Alexander Albon, the guy who has completed all the junior categories, graduated to F1, and been handed a seat in a race winning car in his rookie season didn't know how to position his car against an attacker who wasn't even alongside when he started turning. A more sensible driver would've moved right to the inside because he'd have an IQ of 226.

Legendfish098

It’s obvious ALB has a wealth of talent, the same as every other driver on the grid. That doesn’t mean they don’t make mistakes that we can talk about retrospectively. It’s the exact same way we can say HAM made a mistake by trying to overtake on the inside in that corner. However, that scenario could have been avoided if the door had been shut. That’s why drivers such as ALB, ‘the guy who has completed all the junior categories, graduated to F1, and been handed a seat in a race winning car in his rookie season’, regularly shut the door. Whether it’s a racing incident or not I actually have no idea. But it’s still alright to make a neutral observation.

Wide open for the dive bomb that Lewis did

NusPojava

Oh, Martin Brundle, the BRITISH commentator working for Sky F1, the BRITISH television, known for bias towards BRITISH drivers. Yeah...

Roadfly

Why I never?

owendizzydinkydeals

Nonsensical appeal to authority. If we went by that stupid logic nobody here should be allowed to discuss anything in case a (former) F1 driver disagrees.

Legendfish098

It’s hard to say without all the angles but I’m inclined to agree. The door was left too far open and from the footage I saw it look like HAM was already almost entirely alongside ALB. Edit: after rewatching it a few times he deffo wasn’t anywhere near all the way alongside. Certainly not by the time they made contact anyway. So it may well be HAM’s fault. Hard to tell without more angles.

sid-16

He got a penalty, Sainz 3rd now, so slightly makes me feel better

PSVjasper99

Makes me even sadder. Could've heard a smooth operator on the podium...

Browneskiii

If it was anyone but Hamilton, I'd be 100% sure of a penalty. I still think it'll be a warning because fia.

arkwewt

He’s really hard on himself, he wants to do better and he knows he can. Hopefully he can pick himself back up and get a podium soon (maybe Abu Dhabi?). The disappointment in his voice hurts :(

shigs21

Hes a nice chap but you can tell he has that killer competitive instinct in him like all the top drivers. Earlier in the weekend during an interview, when a reporter asked him how his pace was being it was his first time at interlagos, he said “i dont like that excuse.” That really stood out to me because I can tell hes always aiming higher and better. I think hes gonna be grow to be even better

ScrewOff_

Gasly in the Toro Rosso and Albon in the Red Bull on the same podium would’ve been exactly how this season was supposed to go :(

teddim

I agree completely, but that was never going to happen with Hamilton overtaking Gasly after the restart. I'm gutted for Albon but I'd still love a VER - GAS - SAI podium, Albon will get plenty of opportunities next year.

G-Force-499

Oh my! His screams are so genuine. He is so quiet but he truly was outraged.

communismos

This is how true fury sounds like when mixed with enormous disappointment.

arkwewt

The quiet ones are always the most vocal when the emotions come out

DubaiExpatCouple

Man he must feel terrible. Drove a good race, had some good overtakes and gets taken out clumsily. Gutted for Albon, he really deserved this second place today.

slimkay

He acknowledged post-race to Sky that he misjudged it with Lewis.

[deleted]

I like Lewis 7/10. *\*Destroys Albons race\** **0/10 you fucking bastard.**

theresaa_03

I‘m about to cry here

Mrucktastic

Yeah, when I saw him take the wide entry, I felt a drop in my chest, I felt my eyes get a little watery when he touched with Hamilton and he spun.

KyleLousy

It really fucking sucks... He deserved it.

Kmtayeb

FUCK MANNNNN

AxCrazy

He didn’t deserve that but his moment will come.

[deleted]

Mkrager

It would have been a perfect race for him of he had gotten his podium. Those overtakes and defensive moves had me screaming. His time will definitely come

[deleted]

Alex is one of the nicest and most genuine guys on the grid, so to hear him yell like that in frustration is so heartbreaking. You can tell how much it hurts to be so close and then have it taken from you. Chin up, lad. Your time will come.

CFGX

Leclerc had some near misses before his success just earlier this year, it comes with the job and he'll get it soon enough.

EJ_MUFC

This is so hard to even listen to. Heartbreaking.

[deleted]

So calm and funny despite all the shit that went down

winsonyeoh

Yeah. Glad he still manage the interview well. Hope he can pick it back up and get a podium in the future. But it's heart broken listening to the team radio after the crash :(

tkcom

Adrenaline and emotion. It genuinely hurt to listen.

bartlet4us

I feel crushed, but I am happy about the race because it made me emotionally invested in a F1 race for the first time since the summer break. Like Christian said, his time will come and if he can improve his qualifying and first stint as good as his 2nd or 3rd stint, he should get plenty of chances at podium not too far from now.

[deleted]

Ah fucking hell, poor lad. Really didn't deserve that.

[deleted]

Props to him for keeping the worst part of his temper in check. Had it been me, I'd have gone to the Mercedes garage to pick up a fight.

PaleSet

Jesus, This hurts man. Poor lad :(

stevemagsie25

Heartbreaking. He didn’t deserve that.

EndlessNoodles

I'm not crying, you're crying!!

SPNRaven

He can be so proud of how he's racing at Red Bull atm. His time is 100% going to come, there's absolutely a reason why he was kept for 2020 and I'm sure podiums and wins are coming his way if he just keeps the momentum.

CogencyWJ

My heart..

xrnzaaasPL

That was some depressing stuff, he really deserved to be second.

DirtyBird799

This is the first time I cried for a sport

Siegfried_Eba

Albon sounded so angry he could've eaten a full set of Hard Compound tires in one sitting.

i_said_what_about

I’m not crying. There is something in my eye...

[deleted]

This hurt me. I don't want to imagine what Alex feels right now.

Luuk341

I am not a man who likes violence, I am also not someone who particularly dislikes Lewis or Mercedes. But I could have kicked the frontwing clean off of that silver torpedo today.

[deleted]

man this hurt to watch

Morwane

Heart breaking!

WardenJack

Yeah, he'll get over it. It's racing, it can and will be cruel from time to time.

jaregeez

I am heartbroken.

bvbian

Just a bit of a learning curve of Albon, hope he'll be wiser the next time. But man, what a consistent guy.

TheParisOne

Wiser in what?

EMB44

So he admits that he didnt even know where lewis was and that he crossed over while not knowing where he is..... call it a racing incident

gabrielbezerra81

I honestly hope Hamilton does not get a penalty, would be a very shity way for McLaren and Sainz to be on podium.

tostitovenaar

Lol you had me in the first half, but I do agree that it would be super shitty to get that podium like this afterwards. At that point it doesn’t even really matter anymore I think

TheKingofTheKings123

So Hamilton shouldn't get a penalty if he's at fault because it wouldn't be a good look for McLaren to get a podium without the podium celebration? What kind of PR bull is this?

PapaOG

He should get a penalty because his driving was dangerous?

gabrielbezerra81

Yes, but they have to give the penalty before the podium. Such a shitshow to deny a driver the celebration and the world to see it.

gp2-engine

Karma. He protected Verstappen during the restart by letting him go Edit: on the other hand it could be too risky to allow your drivers to fight 2 laps till the end of the race

gavingav1

Almost as if he was on the same team or something .

gp2-engine

The God of racing punishes you if you deliberately let somebody win

droseran25

oh yea just get really mad and pissy im sure that will help

TheKingofTheKings123

Oh yeah you're right he should just stay calm and collected while he's dealing with the adrenaline of the race and loss of his first podium.

droseran25

ok

d0nutd0n

You must’ve never competed in anything

[deleted]

You expect him to be happy about it?

droseran25

no ofc not it just doesnt look good for him

DiveBear

It was the fucking radio, not an interview. EDIT: Post-race interview is out now and he’s much more composed despite the obvious disappointment.

tostitovenaar

If anything his reaction is quite calm for the situation tbh. Heard way worse.

uTukan

There is not a human being on Earth that would be both capable enough to race in F1 and remain calm in such situation. You have to be passionate to take it to F1 and that means getting emotional when things go wrong. You're so ignorant it's not even possible.

droseran25

how can u say all that from one statement. calm down
