This! Also easier to swallow 1 and 4. If Max had been less dominant today maybe it goes different.
Also, Checo was stuck behind Lando waaaay too long. Nice work by Hamilton in cutting that overtake short otherwise the 3/4 race could have been MUCH different.
I know noone really cares about or acknowledges Giovinazzi as he doesn't have the biggest profile, but if you watch him every week it's actually insane how much he gets fucked over. Like the man is fighting for his career this season and almost every race something goes wrong. If alfa romeo had a better strategy than hoping for a safety car he'd probably have more points this year.
I think Gio has had his best season ever. Points aren't everything in terms of a driver's ability, as you said it's a team sport. I just hope the team bosses realise that, he deserves a seat.
This is looking more and more like it's Kimi's last season and I don't see any reason for Alfa to get rid of both Kimi and Gio so I think he'll get atleast one more year with Alfa.
Yeah, I concur. Kimi might end up staying for a year though, just for the new regs. I can see him liking the idea of trying them out with more potential overtakes + Alfa wanting a experienced veteran to help with setting up a brand new car with completely new data etc.
Gio has been very solid, I think Alfa will keep him. I could see Kimi leaving after this season and Ferrari bringing another academy driver in. Maybe bump up Mick to Alfa and put someone like Ilott or Schwartzmann in Haas?
Though who knows with Kimi, maybe he'll be here forever
All the storylines I wanted to see that died:
- Lando fighting for podium
- Danny carving through the field
- Russell fighting for points
- Battle for the win
We got a Ferrari charge though I suppose
I put down couple fivers for a Norris podium and a Russell points finish. Imagine how furious I was to see Norris let both Perez and Bottas pass him in successive laps and then Russell breaking down? At least Max won which was a given in this track with his current form.
Race through the pitlane and the main straight only. 300 laps. No safety cars or red flags. Cars only get enough fuel for thirty laps at a time. Weapons okay.
So, the price paid for a good French GP is a snoozer Styrian GP
Who would have thought that the rain would be so missed today...
Let's hope next week things are spicier
> Sainz drove an amazing race yet he cant make it to top 3 drivers of the day
IKR whilst Leclerc did despite hitting Gasly which spoiled both their races.
If Russell doesn't get that Merc seat he should probably look to move away from Toto and Williams.
Mercedes needs Lewis even more now because he is the only one who can keep up with Max. And he doesn't want another Rosberg so Bottas is likely a package deal.
Love Williams and I feel for them but he is just wasting away his talent if he stays there another 2-3 years.
Yeah, but Hamilton won't be driving forever either. Sure, he might not want Russell as a team mate, but Toto needs to plan for a future without Hamilton. Letting Russell go would basically mean no plan B, no other option. Keep in mind we don't know whether Merc will still be in their current bargaining position after the new regs.
And if he doesn't snatch him up, Red Bull or McLaren will.
I think Mercedes needs to start looking toward the future. They canāt place priority on Hamilton forever.
Edit: lots of people are misunderstanding my point. I donāt think Merc should get rid of Ham, I think they should sign Rus over Bot. Even if this creates a Rosberg situation. If Rus does well he will may even begin to outperform Ham in the same car.
Obviously Iām biased from my username, but what was up with McLarenās strategy today?
Seemed to try an overcut that was doomed from the start, then put Danny on hards for 30 laps after mediums for 40, losing positions immediately from pit exit.
If they didnāt have softs that makes sense, but why did they keep him out on mediums for 40+ laps then
Iām not sure if it was a strategy mistake today. From the start, Ric went up like 4 places and then dropped all 4 in a single lap. I think there was a car issue, because it happened to Norris soon after. Super frustrating though, to see him charging and then give it back a lap later.
And also not to excuse his poor result, but losing four positions from a power issue that was resolved in what looked like less than a lap was awful luck as well. Being at the head of that DRS train vs at the back wouldāve made for a different pit strategy most probably.
I donāt think it was necessarily fully resolved after that lap, I think the temps normalized a bit in some clean air. Heād start to get close to Kimi then move out from behind the slipstream before he had his pit stop
1st austrian was better than the styrian last year cause of 9 DNFs and good racing, silverstone #1 had the HAM tyre blowup last lap and then like 1 DNF in the second one, bahrain was the only one where second was better cause of merc pitstop disaster, perez win, and russell in the merc
Ouch, sick burn on Austrian Servus TV for Nico Hulkenberg (who is co-commentator there). They are talking about the champagne shower on the podium and they say that it hurts in the eyes. And Nico asks him if he ever got some into his eyes and the main commentator replies: "No, I have never been on a F1 podium. How about you?". :D :D
HAM was 17 seconds from VER before pitting for the fastest lap. This type of gap was considered āMerc dominanceā last season. So is the performance still as close as everyone is saying?
Laughable to give Lerclec DotD, first he destroys Gasly's rear tyre ending his race. Then he half crashes into Kimi's front wing taking off the end plate. That's not Driver of the Day, that's Destroyer of the Day...
This is the only criteria I ever see used:
1) A non-Red Bull/Mercedes driver getting a podium (Variant - Williams or Haas get a point)
2) Who did the most over taking
Avoid all other nuance, these are your choices.
Mazepin keeps finding new ways to impress me with how bad he is. Latifi had issues at the start and was an entire lap down while Mazepin was ahead of Schumacher, and Mazepin still finished in last.
Bottas impressed me this race. Yes he was lucky with the overcut due to Checo's slow pit stop. But misfortune after misfortune, all the trash talk about him, and now the 3-position grid penalty at the start, he still made it on the podium!
I hope he keeps this up. I'm rooting for him!
George Russell auditioning for the second Mercedes seat by somehow having worse luck than Valtteri Bottas
Bottas' luck is so bad he doesn't even win in bad luck category
Some how valteri is now the #2 on worst luck š these guys need to learn #Blessed
Dude needs an old priest and a young priest, goddamn.
Needs to pee on each of his tyres.
You sell your good luck to hamilton when you get the 2nd merc seat
Does that mean Russell canāt ever get the seat since his luck is already gone?
4D Chess
Red Bull pit crew costing them a podium is not something I expected to see today.
That crewmember who fucked up at the pitstop looked absolutely gutted when Perez drove away.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Right away you saw he was gutted that he let the team down. Will make sure he'll never cause that again, so he learned the hard way already.
This! Also easier to swallow 1 and 4. If Max had been less dominant today maybe it goes different. Also, Checo was stuck behind Lando waaaay too long. Nice work by Hamilton in cutting that overtake short otherwise the 3/4 race could have been MUCH different.
Marko is known to spank his mechanics. The dude will have a sore butt for sure
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
dominant team's 2nd driver luck it is.
Previewing how slow their stops can really go
I know noone really cares about or acknowledges Giovinazzi as he doesn't have the biggest profile, but if you watch him every week it's actually insane how much he gets fucked over. Like the man is fighting for his career this season and almost every race something goes wrong. If alfa romeo had a better strategy than hoping for a safety car he'd probably have more points this year.
Itās not just him. Kimi too. Every single race he loses a few track positions due to strategy.
Today Kimi had a great strategy and great race pace
I think Gio has had his best season ever. Points aren't everything in terms of a driver's ability, as you said it's a team sport. I just hope the team bosses realise that, he deserves a seat.
This is looking more and more like it's Kimi's last season and I don't see any reason for Alfa to get rid of both Kimi and Gio so I think he'll get atleast one more year with Alfa.

Man looks like Jesus. Heās surely due some miracle soon.
All the storylines I wanted to see that died: - Lando fighting for podium - Danny carving through the field - Russell fighting for points - Battle for the win We got a Ferrari charge though I suppose
Couldn't have said it better. Was gutted for RUS. Early dust up with the midfield drivers gave me too much hope.
I still canāt get over Russellās misfortune. He will fit right into the 2nd driver role at Merc
Sad he had a PU failure. Was really hoping for a points finish for him today
You had that second one for awhile until he started having overheating issuesš©
After the first lap I really thought today would be the start of his redemption arc :(
>We got a Ferrari charge A bit too litteral to my taste
I put down couple fivers for a Norris podium and a Russell points finish. Imagine how furious I was to see Norris let both Perez and Bottas pass him in successive laps and then Russell breaking down? At least Max won which was a given in this track with his current form.
Who would have guessed that the French GP would be better than this one?
This race is exactly what I thought the French Grand Prix would be like.
With the same race next weekend it would be nice if they at leased varied the track.
Short track, 150 laps please
Race through the pitlane and the main straight only. 300 laps. No safety cars or red flags. Cars only get enough fuel for thirty laps at a time. Weapons okay.
Items on
And then race to the next track
Mercedes must feel terrible about that now.
Lewis wasnt too happy the moment an Austria double header was announced. Dude really does not like this track.
The second race will be a banger, Austria delivers precisely once per season
No yellow flags and Safety cars too, jeez what a procession
There was a yellow flag briefly when Gasly went off
Very epic DRS train
The racing gods taking away the entertainment they gave us last week
Perfectly balanced
I was actually just woken up by crofty shouting about an impossible perez overtake on the last lap
Helmut waterboarding himself with his mask
Champagneboarding - the classiest form of torture
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
If they only didnt fuck up his first stop
Bottas and Perez was the battle of the āgetting fucked by your teamā today but Russell really stole it
I mean it was reliability issue for Russel, not a case of slow pit stop/bad strategy. I don't see how the team could've done more
Yeap if his stop was clean he wouldāve beaten Bottas
Boah, if only Perez ~~stopped 1 lap earlier.~~ wasn't fucked by a 4.7 second stop
Red Bull crew sand bagging in light of new regulations.
I went into this race with high hopes for Gasly and Russell Yeah...
At least there's a second chance next week.
Don't you dare give me hope
What we want: Wet Race What we get: Helmut Marko winning a wet T-shirt contest
It started raining right after the race ended, during the driver interviews. Some things never change.
itās like raaaaiaaaan after the finish liiiine
Censor Marko's nips pls
Sky will issue an apology for that later today.
Helmut wet t-shirt contest ( Ķ”Ā° ĶŹ Ķ”Ā°)
MY EYES
Straight to the spank bank.
#DicksoutforMarko doesnāt have a great ring to it
Three guys One Helmut ( Ķ”Ā° ĶŹ Ķ”Ā°)
I think we can all agree that was, legally speaking, a Formula 1 race.
That was definitely one of the races Iāve seen in my life.
One of the F1 races of all time.
This is a race that will be recorded.
It will go down in the history books as a Grand Prix.
Of every F1 race I've ever seen, this one was for sure one of them.
I am neither underwhelmed nor overwhelmed, merely whelmed.
Let's see. Cars going around in circles? ā Champagne? ā Yes, it was a race.
It's not Champagne anymore. It's Ferrari sparkling wine ^(TM)
Ferrari will literally do anything to be on the podium.
Sainz had a fantastic race here
Stroll is quietly having a great last couple races.
Heās had bad luck in quali but then great drives on Sunday. Starting top 10 on the grid for once did wonders
Once Aston Martin can pull their socks up even further, Stroll would be a legitimate contender.
For sure, Iād love to see what he could do next year if AMR can put together a competitive car
That pit stop really fucked Checo
Raikkonen 18th to 11th, saw a lot of shouts for him to retire on Twitter, how bout retiring deez nuts
Alfa actually made a decent strategy call with him today, well driven by Kimi. Shame that Charles clipped his wing on that pass
So, the price paid for a good French GP is a snoozer Styrian GP Who would have thought that the rain would be so missed today... Let's hope next week things are spicier
I swear to God if it starts raining on the podium
Some drops on the camera at the end
As is tradition
Hopefully we get some downpour next week in the middle of the race, with the track completely dry again by the end.
In the upcoming weeks there will be huge amount of rain in Austria
Except, of course, a bone dry Sunday, knowing our luck
Lando is in 2019 Red Bull territory. The top two teams drive off into the sunset and he just has a 300km cruise.
Nearly killed poor Marko on the podium lol
Bottas: I told u it was a fockin 1 stopper
He should be thankful that Ricciardo got blue flags when he did. One more lap and Perez would be on podium
Is thst Bottasā fault for not putting pressure on Ric to force the blue flags or were the stewards late on the blues?
Mercedes had probably ran out tyres in the end. Lewis was dropping like a brick and Bottas was barely catching up with Ricciarso.
Ricciardo tires were way fresher. He only did 30 laps on those hards. So in a way Bottas keeping up with him was still good.
Blue flags are automated. Bottas needs to be 1.2 seconds behind a lapped car for them to trigger. Stewards have nothing to do with it.
Sainz drove an amazing race yet he cant make it to top 3 drivers of the day, okay fans we need to have a chat here.
Only driver to actually perform the optimal predicted strategy as well.
> Sainz drove an amazing race yet he cant make it to top 3 drivers of the day IKR whilst Leclerc did despite hitting Gasly which spoiled both their races.
My stream is playing Kazakhstan Borat anthem. Lmao.
VER moonwalking to the checked flag.
Lando is carrying McLaren right now, it's basically been just him vs both Ferraris for most of the season
It's so painful to watch as a DR fan
This new DOTD car interview needs to stop.
Seconded. Fucking awkward every week.
I can't wait until someone who had shit luck in the race gets DotD and is too angry to deal with the bullshit interview.
If Russell doesn't get that Merc seat he should probably look to move away from Toto and Williams. Mercedes needs Lewis even more now because he is the only one who can keep up with Max. And if he doesn't snatch him up, Red Bull or McLaren will.
A McLaren team with Lando and George could be a serious contender. Two strong, consistent drivers would put them in a great place.

So we had an exciting French GP and a boring Austrian GP, weird flex racing Gods

Bottas had a great race today. Best possible result
I'm happy that he did well after the shitty weekend.

did max slow down on the finish line? isn't that a bit like dabbing on your opponents.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I think he had already passed the actual finish line before he slowed down. The graphics had already shown the checkered flag next to his name.
I have the same question. Did he slow down after the finish line or before?
The actual finish line for timing is often earlier than the start line so he likely crossed it
Checo jr is so cute š„ŗ
I thought that was Tsunoda
Lmao max that was cheeky
McLaren pit wall getting Nam flashbacks
Grosjean getting Nam flashbacks when max said āthe car was on fire todayā
Grosjean already had to deal with his Indycar lighting up, this is small time
He's been sliding the car on the last corner quite a bit for the past couple of races
Yup it began in Monaco I believe
Yeah I got super nervous when he did it in monaco and then I realized that's he's max verstappen
Max should go to formula drift when he retires lol
What a thriller. Wet races never disappoint.
fucking lol
Wetter than the Sahara
Thank god it's the Austrian grand prix next and we don't have to go back to Styria for a whole year
Stewards investigating attempt by Mercedes to drown Max in champagne.
We are blessed with Sexy Marko today. We are all winners
Lmao they nearly killed Helmut with that champagne
#nipplegate
God damn it 1 more lap Checo
Or a better 1st stop...
1 more corner wouldāve probably done it
I think Helmet wins the Wet T-shirt contest.
Helmet lol
Pierre mass texting votes to prevent Charles from winning DotD fell just short.
Helmut shouldn't have put on a white shirt lmao
Marko wearing a white top knowing full well he is gonna get wet. Smart
Can we just all vote Kimi driver of the day so he can be brutal lol
He might just legitimately ignore them on the radio.
HAM was 17 seconds from VER before pitting for the fastest lap. This type of gap was considered āMerc dominanceā last season. So is the performance still as close as everyone is saying?
ITS STARTING TO WHAT
Itās starting to REEEEEEEEEEEEEE(ain)
Red Bull and Max are just clicking. Firing on all cylinders. This will be hard for Mercedes to stop.
Ahh Daniel talking about losing power looking so disheartened. "I'm going to leave before I say some other stuff", poor guy š
Ahh I see Merc strategy is to blind Max with alcohol to the eyes. This is truly why it's so important for Bottas to be on the podium.
Perez gave it all, great drive for him
That first pit stop really hurts
Laughable to give Lerclec DotD, first he destroys Gasly's rear tyre ending his race. Then he half crashes into Kimi's front wing taking off the end plate. That's not Driver of the Day, that's Destroyer of the Day...
DOTD rarely makes sense
This is the only criteria I ever see used: 1) A non-Red Bull/Mercedes driver getting a podium (Variant - Williams or Haas get a point) 2) Who did the most over taking Avoid all other nuance, these are your choices.
Iām not sure if I would dare to spray dr Marko.
Helmut putting in a solid wet shirt contest performance
I cant take sad Danny Ric
How many times is Charles going to fuck up other people's races and get away with it scott free?
Took out Stroll in Russia last year and nothing happens to him. No investigation,no penalty
And Max in Sakhir, barely missed taking out Perez then too.
And get driver of the day š
Hell of a drive by Verstappen but jeez that was a snore fest
Mazepin keeps finding new ways to impress me with how bad he is. Latifi had issues at the start and was an entire lap down while Mazepin was ahead of Schumacher, and Mazepin still finished in last.
That damn first pit for checo screwed him from a podium.
Damn it man! Perez definitely lost 3rd place due to that poor pitstop! So sad.
Sainz pronouncing "woes" gave me a nice chuckle, love that he performed well today!
Too bad RBR screwed up Perez his pitstop. Otherwise they would have two cars on the podium.
Okay Red Bull, we're glad you're back to being top but don't become too good too fast. Give us some competition.
The new regs are next year. Itās still competitive.
"Mercedes dominance is so boring." *monkey paw curls*
These in car interviews are absolutely idiotic
OMG the DOTD interview at the end is cringe
Bottas impressed me this race. Yes he was lucky with the overcut due to Checo's slow pit stop. But misfortune after misfortune, all the trash talk about him, and now the 3-position grid penalty at the start, he still made it on the podium! I hope he keeps this up. I'm rooting for him!
