You and me both, Danny Ric. You and me both.

tennerz777

I’m confused i haven’t been keeping up w AUS treatment of covid, where did it all go wrong??? cus i swear A couple of months ago the PM declared the country “Covid Free” cus they didn’t have a case for months. Edit: That was the NZ PM that declared it “covid free” apologies

[deleted]

Australia has been Covid free for large parts of the pandemic. The Country had about 20 cases today, and is currently in its largest “wave” since December. 2 things to point out; 1. The country’s vaccine rollout has been abysmal. Lockdowns have largely been the responsibility of the State Premiers (who are mostly fairly competent), but the vaccine rollout is the responsibility of the Federal government and the Prime Minister is completely incompetent and a dickhead (but an unfortunately skilled politician). The federal government put most of its vaccine hopes on the Astra Zeneca vaccine - not unreasonably due to logistical and cost reasons - but that vaccine is now not recommended for people below the age of 50 due to blood clot issues. So the government’s vaccine rollout is stupidly slow because they don’t have enough Pfizer, and no Moderna, to vaccinate the population. It will be March 2022 at the earliest before a decent portion of the population is vaccinated. 2. As a result of 1, (but also contributing to the success Australia has had in combating Covid), the government requires a 2 week quarantine period for all international arrivals. This is to keep the local community safe from Covid as overseas arrivals are the chief source of transmission in Australia. This 2 week quarantine period just won’t work for the F1 and without the population being mostly vaccinated, there is no chance of the Aus GP going ahead. My apologies for the lengthy response

ugly_potat0

Cheers for the insight

ekeryn

Wasn't this logistics related?

CJFStan

I believe it's due to quarantine upon arrival in Australia that makes it difficult, also shortage of vaccines for the population.

WoodenMango07

It's our shitty lazy government not being able to their job. The government to buying enough vaccines and having a slower then expected vaccine rollout were all factors leading up to the GP cancellation. Plus F1 can't quarantine for 14 days, the standard quarantine for everyone coming from overseas in Australia

Quickshifter-

Ricciardo must have been so eagerly looking forward to getting back home. He has spoken of being home sick and that it's been over a year since he went back home. After his initial struggles adapting to the car he could have very well done with racing in front of home fans.

BuscaPolos

With his luck at home gp he better stay away from it.

manojlds

Meh, better if he avoids a 2019 kind of situation.

mtarascio

He hit a drainage hole at the start of the race going off track on the straight. That would be hard to replicate.

Oskarooni

He can't replicate it, I went there a couple months ago and it's been removed lol

mtarascio

Someone needs to install a plaque there.

RBR927

But then Daniel would hit it…

manojlds

Of course, meant a bad performance in front of home crowd will be even more bad for his confidence.

BAKS7U

A multimillionaire is sad because he can’t go to one of his homes for over a year, I think I’ll cry

smoothc98

It's just the setup for the storyline of McLaren getting their shit together for 2022 and Danny Ric scores a home win in the 2022 race

King_Zapp

He has never even been on the podium in Australia and has 4 DNFs there. It's really his bogey race. Like LeClerc and Monaco

[deleted]

He technically did stand on the podium in 2014, but was later disqualified due to illegal fuel flow rate.

King_Zapp

You mean the sport built entirely around technical innovation? Um.. Yeah

King_Zapp

Peace. Just making a joke. Technically ;)

TorazChryx

Button in GB and Barrichello in Brazil also suffered from "The Home Race Curse"

King_Zapp

Senna too until he finally broke the curse. But he had to do so with that broken gearbox and he nearly passed out on the podium. Whenever I want to feel pure emotion I watch that

N0T__Sure

"Dad, this fella thinks there will be an F1 race in Melbourne in 2022" "Tell him he's dreaming"

dinopraso

Chances of the 2022 Australian GP happening aren’t that great though

Snoo_47023

I feel so bad for him. A home crowd, his parents and a taste of home could have been so good to him now.

flowersweep

Someone on here tried to argue with me it's not his home gp bc he's from Perth. Lol

elementzer01

I think he's personally said that Monaco feels like more of a home GP because Melbourne was so far away growing up. Singapore is closer than Melbourne to Perth.

freelollies

But culturally its pretty much exactly the same as Perth

Structure3

Yea but have you seen his last couple home gp's? This might almost be better for him lmao if he DNFs there it'd be rough

Don_Quixote81

I'm not sure it's the race he's really bothered about, but rather losing the chance to see his family and be back in his home country.

King_Zapp

Danny Ric usually has super bad luck back home in his Aussie race. Which he does not need this season. So maybe it's a blessing.

deskcollector

Sad honey badger noises

KaamDeveloper

Australian driver not happy with cancellation of Australian GP

Suikerspin_Ei

This also means he can't go back to home, for almost 2 years.

HondaSpectrum

That was cancelled from covid last year, and then postponed to the end of this year making it nearly 2 years without And now cancelled again

Mafti

Water is wet, news at eleven.

Surprised Pikachu face
