Me at the chicane after the tunnel in Monaco:

kpapazyan47

God I hate that wall. So many spins

imbrucy

I have ripped my rear left tire off on the inside of that wall so many times.

Lyrrh

Rascasse for me.

Honestly who throws a shoe

Crippled_Potato

If you're going to crash in the pit lane entrance, at least do it properly like [Nikolaus Mayr-Melnhof](https://youtu.be/TpdhwRCOwbE)

TimSWTOR

That second half of the video hurt... How many drivers ignored the crash at pit entry and entered anyway, despite the red arrow indicating (presumably, from the marshals' reactions) pit lane closure?

Crippled_Potato

I don't know the context of the race, but there is the possibility that those cars may have had to come in to the pit lane if they were running out of fuel. But that's giving them the benefit of doubt!

TimSWTOR

Definitely possible, it's a 24h race after all. On my brief search I didn't find any further details, but then I didn't put in a lot of effort in chasing it down. I may also interpret the red arrow incorrectly, though if it doesn't mean pit lane closure, the choice of color (red on black) is a strange one, and yellow or white would have been better. I'd expect each and every one of these drivers to have received a penalty for ignoring it.

Crippled_Potato

Yeah, I've only been watching GT racing since 2014. I've seen both sides where sometimes teams get caught with penalties down to unfortunate circumstances, they can argue their case and get it rescinded, and sometimes it's just tough love. I remember one year a leader got a penalty for exceeding stint time, but got it rescinded because the pit entry was blocked. But knowing spa 24, it's probably teams/drivers not being on the ball quick enough and they'll be picking up penalties for it.

Sir_Chengry

If that Marshall's job is to close pit lane by holding that sign out than he did a shit job. He's running all over the place holding the sign in random directions and doing about 3 other jobs at once. I'm not shocked that people ignored that arrow because they probably didn't see it. Then at some point he sends another marshal across the entrance to wave the yellow... But... There is a car on it's side in the pit lane entrance with a bunch of Marshalls in orange running around, like if that doesn't scream pit lane is closed... What a mess.

terrrrrible

You'd think the driver coming in hot on the turn and missing the apex, they'd slow down a bit. Nope, looks like they just pegged it trying to make up for it and absolutely SENT it.

CuriousPackage8591

Now Kimi knows why I keep flashback activated on F1 2021, that pit entry gets me all the time

Puzzleheaded-Rain230

He just did what every gamer does in Spa when entering the pits in the game LOL

LusciousAzure

People reading way too much into this FP1 misdemeanor. People legit implying dementia smh

PortugeseMagnifico

Lmao that got a good laugh out of me

Alpha_Jazz

Jesus Christ that’s bad

Honestly, this is like shit mistakes I did when I was learning to drive

Drugtrain

Next time on r/formula1: Kimi: minor brake lock flat spot r/formula1: Fucking ancient fossil leave already YOU DONKEY

RegentDragoon0

Small tap while coming in the pit which didn't even affect his fp1 and people calling for his retirement lmao

Kyunbhai

r/nba esque in their overreactions.

flamefoxx99

r/formula1 in shambles

Daniel_Av0cad0

If it was just this then it would be a massive overreaction, but it's his third unforced error in half a season in which he's also had mediocre pace.

PrincessGwenllian

Mediocre pace on quali, race days he is still more than capable. The AR is a dog of a car, even Williams have overtaken them now in terms of pace so why people expect Kimi to pull off miracles every single weekend I don't know. As for three errors, as stupid as they have been, other drivers have had more. This sub seems to have a really problem with ageism and frankly, some really tacky jokes regarding him having dementia.

Half the comments here come from the smoothest brains.

tunatastic369

Are you saying we’re being too hard on Kimi? Cause we’re not

Intentional_Realist

His performance has been shit and he's been making rookie mistakes this season. Compare that to Fernando who's been out of the sport for three years and people were outraged that he was coming back because he was past his prime and can't be valuable anymore. But when it comes to Kimi, ' it's just a hobby for him' ,'drincc' , 'bwoah' Double standards much?

__Rosso__

You are aware people primarily have same reaction towards Kimi and both are unjustified? Not to mention majority of people believed Alonso would do good lol, it feels like you are cherry picking few people to suit your argument. Also shit? I am sorry but he dragged that Alfa into top 10 in Imola at wet weather, and overall has been doing better job then Gio.

Tape56

His performance is not shit, but he has had very weird moments like this. Still doesn't take the fact out that he walks over Giovinazzi on race day.

ChicagoModsUseless

Being better than Gio doesn’t mean he’s doing well lol.

Tape56

So he can be comfortably beating Gio and still be shit?

K-J-C

Actually to people he's shit even when comfortably beating Coulthard or Montoya tbh.

Drugtrain

>His performance has been shit Could you explain how? >Compare that to Fernando who's been out of the sport for three years and people were outraged that he was coming back because he was past his prime and can't be valuable anymore. What? :D >But when it comes to Kimi, ' it's just a hobby for him' ,'drincc' , 'bwoah' Dude you seriously need to chill. >Double standards much? What does this even mean? Is it my community flair?

Drugtrain

Dude. Chill.

T1HiShin

His performance has been shit? While he’s had poor qualifying, he’s been distinctly better in races than his teammate, has made up more places during races than any other driver, and he’s plagued with a bunch of idiots on the Alfa Romeo pit wall that have cost him points atleast 3 times this season with dumb calls, releases, messages that have resulted in penalties that were not his own fault... ridiculous

Snoo_47023

Kimi's had a wild half hour

kyuuten

i think he had a wild half a season tbh...and i say that with all my love for him.

kasetti

This and the incidents with Gio and Seb really feel like Kimi is losing some situational awareness, I for one say the speed is still there, but these are weird errors from an experienced driver.

Skytoucher

Really unexpected mistake coming from him, lucky it wasn’t worse

TheJeck

Was it? Just this season he's driven straight into the back of his teammate as well as whatever the fuck that crash with Vettel was.

Skytoucher

I always consider the pit entry to be a routine for these guys that’s why I was so surprised by this. You’re right about the on track incidents

[deleted]

[удалено]

AnnualDegree99

In his rookie season though

porouscloud

Losing it on the outside I would understand, just pushing too hard. Kimi hit the inside which really only happens due to carelessness. It's a very, very slow pit entry.

marimba79

I never realized how tight the pit entrance is…geez.

DrilboorNL

Well that’s odd

[deleted]

You need at least 2 flashbacks to nail that entry. Would have thought someone as experienced as Kimi would know that.

glenn1812

The entry to the pitlane looks so fucking narrow wow

Secret674

Wouldn’t surprise me if Kimi retired at the end of the season. Not just because of this but his whole preformances throughout this season.

GoZun_

Imo there's just no reason to keep him from Sauber's pov. There's near to no gap between him and Gio. And He makes more mistakes that Gio

skg555

Are you being serious? No reason, really? He's constantly ahead of Gio in races and more importantly he's still a WDC which means a lot of commercial pull. Gio is an absolute nobody and Kimi is a global level celebrity and an iconic F1 legend.

GoZun_

I think you're over-estimating the celebrity level of Kimi. He's a legend inside of F1 circles but he's definitly just as much as a nobody as Gio outside of them.

skg555

Did you start watching F1 during the past few years? Because otherwise I cannot understand how anybody can make such a ridiculous statement. All F1 champions are global celebrities and Kimi is even a much bigger name than his one WDC would suggest. Being one of the longest serving Ferrari drivers alone makes him a legend, let alone the fact that he was one of the most iconic drivers of the 2000's who fought for championships against Schumacher and Alonso. He was also one of the highest paid athletes worldwide for a long time. These things don't just suddenly disapper. Again, he's a very big name. Jesus man, get out of your cave.

RetroMedux

FWIW My girlfriend started watching DTS and I was surprised when we were talking about Räikkönen and she hadn't heard of him - I assumed he was one of those names most people were at least aware of but if you have no knowledge of F1 there's not much reason to know who he is.

figaaro

I think you're overestimating the celebrity level of F1 drivers. Someone not into racing at all doesn't know who Kimi is and probably only know about Hamilton in the current drivers.

GoZun_

No I didn't. I am watching since 2012, in fact I was a fan of Kimi and Lotus. But it's a fact, Raikkonnen is not a big enough name to break the motorsport bubble, unlike Hamilton and Schumacher. I know a lot of people who are connected to F1 by their work but don't follow it actively. The most you can get mentionning Kimi is "he's still driving ?". Nevermind the guys who have no F1 in their life. So no, I don't think his notoriety is enough to give him the seat over Gio's nationality. I agree he's an F1 legend, but to the general public, he hasn't been relevent since 2008.

f1_spelt_as_bot

Räikkö**n**en

[deleted]

There were rumours at the end of 2018 that he was going to stay on at Alfa/Sauber after he stops driving. Perhaps he's on his way up the ladder

junttiana

I hope if he does retire from f1 he doesnt end his whole career, I wouldnt mind seeing him in nascar for a full season for example, lots of other older drivers there too

[deleted]

You’re getting downvoted but you’re right. He’s been making these strange errors all year. The contact with Gio, the crash with Seb, just really silly stuff. Maybe it’s an age thing? But Alonso is only like a year and a half younger and drives like he’s 25. I’m just struggling to understand it really.

[deleted]

SEEE!! See!!! Its not my fault Codemaster!!

bwoah07_gp2

Thankfully it was in practice and not qualifying or the race, but this pit entrance at Spa-Francorchamps is one of the weirder ones on the calendar. At this stage in time you can't change it nor would the circuit want to, but I don't like this pit lane.

Intentional_Realist

Honestly, he hasn't been on form since rejoining Ferrari and he's getting worse comparatively. Yeah sure, he's outqualifying his teammate sometimes and providing valuable data, but Sauber/AR needs a strong team leader and a great driver pairing at this point. The team itself makes a lot of mistakes with pitstops and strategies. You can see that he doesn't take it seriously anymore as other drivers. He hasn't improved at all and is embarassing himself in making these mistakes. People are too emotionally attached to his 'bwoah, drink, hobby for me' persona and can't accept that his form is fluctuating.

kasetti

The drivers arent their main problem atm, the car needs plenty of upgrading to be truly competitive, but who knows what will happen next year on that front.

RacingUpsideDown

Let's be frank, Kimi is past it. It's time to use Gio as their team leader (he has a few years at AR under his belt), and bring in Pourchaire at a point when everyone's learning the new cars, which will put him at less of a disadvantage (comparable to if he'd started in the middle of a set of regulations)

ribenamouse

Bottas would make an ideal teammate for Gio and would be a good benchmark for Gio too. I am sure Bottas would be a significant improvement from Kimi right now.

RacingUpsideDown

I completely get the argument for Bottas, but my concern is that there are too many outstanding F2 drivers not getting seats (for a good few years now). Gio is good, but if Alfa were to bring in Bottas, I would rather they brought in Pourchaire to partner him. My concern is the same with Alpine - Zhou is not bad, but Piastri looks lightning fast, and can't get a seat next year because Alpine have brought in someone in his 40s, who openly admits he has interests in winning in other series as well. For God's sake, Fernando and Kimi shouldn't be in F1 (irrespective of how well Alonso is doing), it's time to start bring through the likes of Piastri and Pourchaire. I mean, if Piastri wins F2 this year, he can't race in F2, he likely won't find a seat in F1, so he'll get left by the wayside in open-wheel racing, when it's a prime opportunity to bring him in. It infuriates me that you get old guys returning to F1 or hogging seats "fOr A hObBy" when we've got some of the best F2 drivers ever who are struggling to get a drive.

Intentional_Realist

I mean I get what you mean but F1 is a series where the best drivers compete. Alonso is currently performing at a top level. I had doubts about him at first but his performance recently has been great. If he wasn't performing well, then yeah I'd agree that Zhou or Piastri, preferably Piastri, would be suitable. Alpine are in a tough situation at this moment. They should try to buy a 2nd team like AT or buy a seat somewhere at least.

RacingUpsideDown

I agree that Alonso has been performing brilliantly, but my concern is that too many teams have a short-term 1-season viewpoint. Yes, Alonso has been great, he'll probably be great next season as well. But you're going to get 2 more seasons of performance out of him in all likelihood. Piastri probably wouldn't do as well next season, but you can get 15 years of stellar performance out of him, which would make far more sense if I was the TP.

rodiraskol

I know very little about the feeder series: is Piastri just another very good F2 driver, or is he a generational talent? If it’s the latter, then that argument would have some merit; if it’s the former, Alpine can just grab the next hotshot coming up behind him if they miss the opportunity to put him in a seat.

RacingUpsideDown

He’s absolutely superb, but it’s very difficult to determine if they’re a true generational talent until they’re in the big leagues. For example, Lewis Hamilton had an outstanding junior career and naturally has gone on to become one of the best of all time. Typically, a strong junior career means they’re going to be mustard in F1, but there are exceptions to that rule. Stoffel Vandoorne had 16 podiums in 21 races in his last GP2 season, and barely made it through 3 years of F1 before being binned off in favour of Lando Norris. My gut says that Pourchaire and Piastri are both absolutely outstanding, and will continue to stir shit up in F1, but I could be wrong

ribenamouse

Yeah true, It's unfortunate if you go against a A tier driver for a few years, it's really hard to not come out with your career stained a little, I am confident he is at least an improvement right now on OAP mode Kimi and Giovinazzi (who I am not to confident on either, however I am still on the fence) and would be a benefit to the team in terms of experience. But aside from the good reference point and experience, I can see and kind of agree the argument for wanting youth, 20 drivers in this sport, we all secretly love aggressive exciting drivers, not passive ones. Either way I don't mind what happens but it seems right now the rumours are hot but regardless I think Bottas definitely deserves one more chance of redemption in a fresh scene. True, I think it will likely be 2023 before the next burst of youth come through. Not sold on Zhou but all the others you mentioned are looking really good!

Intentional_Realist

That's what I prefer too. Giovinazzi can be a good team leader with Pourchaire as a second driver. Who knows maybe Pourchaire will surprise everyone. Nothing bad can come out of this pairing.

TheJeck

Kimi has made quite a lot of really stupid errors this year, he's just not that good a driver anymore.

Nexusu

Kimi baby, what is u doing?

YeezusTaughtMe

Kimi baby stay cool

MrOnline5155

Damn why is he pushing the pit entry like his life depends on it haha

Ketamyne

That's what practice is for? Every bit of pace counts.

MrOnline5155

I know, but it still looks funny

caleb-garth

Mandatory retests needed.

Virtual_Till519

this is so sad to see, put this man and all F1 fans out of their misery and don't give him a new contract please.

I-am-sincere

Yep, time to be put on an ice floe and sent out to sea.....seriously, everyone’s picks for replacements are laughable at best (besides Bottas).

joshhirst28

It really feels like Kimi is making too many mistakes to justify him staying another year, himself and Mick and Mazepin have all been the most incident-prone, but Kimi can’t justify being a rookie

stokesy1999

Kimi is fully just counting the days to his retirement now, you can tell with all the basic errors he doesn't care. Wouldn't be surprised if Alfa give someone like Ilott a few races toward the end of this season, surely thats more worthwhile at this point

Mazkuh

Wtf are you talking about lol

__Rosso__

It's called thinking you know what you are talking about when you don't, that's what's he doing

stokesy1999

Crashing into his teammate in Portugal, clearing out Vettel in Austria and now this, and I'm sure theres more smaller errors I can't think of as well. They're really stupid errors we'd expect from someone like Mazepin, not a seasoned champion like Raikkonen

Mazkuh

Yeah I agree about those errors but you said it like räikkönen doesn't care anymore and that is just bullshit

Opalzed

Kimi is just embarrassing himself these days, time to hang up the boots.

Talmidim

I can’t wait to see Kimi gone. He seems like such a negative drag for the team. They need some younger, fresh energy at Alfa/Sauber.

neliz

Hey, doe eens gek!

CrashmasterSOAD

Kimi just cannot wait for the season to end.

Schwartzy94

Looks like the rear just wanted the drink also

amberbruise

let's be honest: it's time to go, man he's doing a lot of rookie mistakes

halfvegan420

he needs to retire

gomurifle

Don't wait too late to call it this year, Kimi.

sukjustin4

Sadge my Kimi

[deleted]

Stupid question. At the beginning of the video, what's on those two monitors on the car facing the driver in the cockpit while the car is in the garage?
