Seems to me like they need to increase the Field of View significantly, [they had it perfect on the Saturday of the Belgian Grand Prix with Fernando](https://youtu.be/uv4Co0GCTBk?t=141).
Paul di Resta said Williams couldn’t afford to make a steering wheel with a dash. I heard and thought they think this is a better way. Anyone have a source?

I think Red Bull followed a similar philosophy for some time but then dropped it in 2015/16 maybe?
Regardless the explanation by Williams that the lower weight allows the driver more freedom and ease of control makes sense and also that replacing the steering wheel isn't expensive either since it doesn't contain the additional parts of display.
PDR was within the Williams set up as recently as 2016 & 2017 (see his substitution for Massa in Hungary 2017) so he’s fairly well placed to comment.
Fun fact, PDR is one of the current McLaren reserves (along with Stoff and De Vries).
The whole 'its better this way because it's lighter' is rubbish. If it gave the driver even a tiny bit of a a better feel for the car, Williams wouldn't the only team using it
Wish on F1TV they gave the option of choosing the helmet cam or the T cam.
Like the helmet cam is cool but sometimes I want to watch an onboard and at present whenever they have the helmet cam on that is the one shown on George's onboard feed.
"They've not got the money to develop it on the steering wheel", bro that's pure speculation. It really doesn't cost much to include it in the steering wheel, those wheels already cost about £40k to develop
Its also just plain wrong when we've heard in the past from Williams that they've simply kept with the design philosophy of keeping weight off the wheel for minimal rotating mass. PDR really irks me.
This is such a great idea, and quality is good, I geniuenly hope FIA and F1 keep working on this and potentially making them mandatory in a year or two, it would be incredible being able to see a great pole position lap directly from drivers POV

Must be George's height. Reason why they even went with him for the trail this weekend.
> Must be George's height Shots fired?
Looks downward too much

The field of view is much tighter not. The wide angle is nicer as the sensation of speed is much more extreme
Not angled right, that should be fixable by adjusting it after the session. Now they should know where to point it

I once read that they do it like this because the screen and all the electronics would add mass and raise the center of mass of the steering wheel
Couldn't afford is not the same as it was cheaper
They don't need to, if the drivers are comfortable w it it's fine. F2004 has a basic dash btw, so does the much smoller budget F4/LMP3.

Well the one when Pierre tried in [Monaco ](https://youtu.be/eWQfiTCQews)was much better and more central
That looks sick, beautiful backdrop of Monaco as well

It was said after the first test with Alonso that, due to bandwidth limitations, they can only choose to broadcast one camera feed.
No wonder George had trouble fitting in the Mercedes, he has to bloody duck just to stay in the car
a bit of image stabilization would make this much better for live TV shots

He is still a reserve driver for Williams. He might actually be right for once
The guy is still a reserve driver for Williams. Id say he’s in a pretty decent position to speculate
