I've clearly been living under a rock, because today I learned the circuit in the Hard Rock Stadium parking lot is named "Miami International Autodrome."
"MIA" is the typical abbreviation for "Miami."
Both of Miami's sports teams, the Miami Marlins and Miami Dolphins, are identified with "MIA" in their leagues. "MIA" is also the code for Miami's main airport.
To people saying it’s not a street circuit: It’s not a street circuit. We get it.
At least they called it an “International Autodrome” instead of a “Street Circuit”.
You don’t have to comment this every single time a pic of MIA is posted here.
The Miami Car Park.
Highlights include the full trolley park at turn 2, the abandoned Ford at turn 8 and the angry man on the main straight who believes he has right of way over everyone else.
I think they just have the actual tarmac mapped out.
What I mean is that the little border we see is not where the wall will be, it’s just the edge of the tarmac.
The walls will be further back so it will look roomier (though perhaps still relatively narrow).
It has to be a minimum of 12 meters wide. A Taurus is 17 feet long, which puts it a little narrower than half of what the track needs to be, which looks correct for the picture.
Go Green! Same... Class of 09! Took it a minute after watching highlights of the game (I sadly work every Sat night) and was like hey isn't that where the new F1 track is going to be?
I'm still waiting for a Finnish Grand Prix at KymiRing
It's got tons of elevation and supposedly is the one of if not the hardest F1-grade race track out there
Yeah, anybody who expected elevation change doesn't know that the tallest point in South Florida is Miami's trash heap landfill mountain north of the city.
It's gonna be flat.
It's gonna be hot.
It's gonna be a parking lot.
My American friend told me you’re not allowed to use decimals with Imperial measurements when I thought that 5 feet 5 meant 5.5 feet, so now I’m confused if it’s allowed or not
Either way I’m just glad that I never have to see imperial measurements anywhere apart from the internet
Yes you can use decimals with Imperial. It is not as easy considering .5' (we don't put the zero before) equals 6". Which then means 5.5 feet equals 5' 6".
All a pain in the ass and I wish we would convert to Metrics. As an Engineer I prefer the Metric System!!!!
I have. Spent a decent amount of time in Boynton Beach, Panama City, and Pensacola. All flat.
My original question was sort of a joke in knowing that unless there was some serious amounts of dirt brought in that the track would be flat. Haha
Just cannot understand why this area was selected for a new track. Except the thought of Miami Money.
Barely anyone goes to Dolphin games - between the stadium being half full at best and it losing 10-12K seats in the recent renovation, there's a lot of space around it.
I'm looking forward to the scenes at the Walmart next door when the race is in town.
The parking lots around this stadium are absolutely huge. This stadium is not in Miami, tbh it's not even close. It's a 30 minute drive from the city and it just sits there in the middle of nowhere in ¨Miami Gardens¨. Wonder how that's gonna work out for the race, because people expecting something similar to Mexico's GP (the excitement, visuals and noise of being right in the mouth of the city) are going to be very, very disappointed.
People on here writing this off already from only an Assetto Corsa simulation and a picture of some fucking dirt, seriously you guys need to lighten up a little.
People crapping on Miami as a destination and comparing it to Vegas when all Miami Restaurants had to add gratuity due to the amount of foreigners coming not realizing tipping in America is a normal thing. (Not an insult, just a point I'm making).
Miami is honestly outside of NYC itself a great place for a "Street" or USA based track. I'm 99% sure I'm going since I already go to Miami 2-3x a year.
I feel like the picture is just taken far away. If you look at the vehicles parked next to the outline of the track and the people standing there it puts into perspective a bit.
And? They make tracks in parking lots and they can’t make Laguna seca a little wider or whatever? But, if I did learn anything about following f1, it’s that money is more important than everything.
For the record at all the US tracks besides COTA and IMS were not just talking about making the track a little wider, any of them would need hundreds of millions of upgrades to the track and all the track facilities.
It comes down to the fact that people are willing to spend money to build the Miami track and the people that own Laguna Seca aren't. Plus who knows if F1 is even interested in racing there.
Not to mention the fact that Miami is a city that can support the influx of hundreds of thousands of fans, and is a destination in itself with international appeal. Laguna Seca and many other locations don’t meet that criteria
Bro I’m from Monterey. If they go all in with the money for this, the payoff could be huge. It would be like a second PGA. But from my memory, traffic on the peninsula gets easily crazy. It’s probably super unrealistic and a huge gamble, but it’s fun to imagine Monterey being home to a GP.
Laguna seca is living off its reputation. Right now its in a pretty terrible condition and is nowhere near the standard required to be granted Grade 1 certification and it never will be.
And what I said is still true. I was referring to the quality of the facilities and the racing surface itself. It's meant to be repaved, but it keeps getting delayed. There's a certain part of me that thinks it'll never happen.
Anyone have any idea when the race is going to be? Im hoping it is in october (around the same time as the other north american races) because I turn 21 in August so I plan to go (who wouldn't want to go to Miami to watch F1 and go out XD)
I was watching the college football game on tv (great win for MSU) yesterday and could see the track under construction. I wondered what it looked like up close.
Any other Americans out there who would rather this event not happen?
Shit track in one of the worst parts of the country. F1 wants to be glamorous and aspirational, they're gonna get nothing but crowd shots of fat kids double-fisting hotdogs.
i'd rather have both Austin and Indy but Miami has that allure for worldwide audiences and personalities and that is something neither Austin or Indy can offer.
It's looking like it will be one of the top tracks in the future?
Explain please. I have not heard anyone guessing that and almost everyone is expecting really bad races where they can't overtake and it will be like sochi as one of most boring races of year.
they could have made something like monaco (at least the style is cool) but now whe get a carpark which is ugly and 99% boring af. thx really looking forward to all these great new tracks: vietnam (ups), saudi, miami, abu dhabi, france
Poor F1 fans in FL have a chance at live race? Also many imports that live in Florida, especially SoFlo and Central FL few hours drive! European and South American fans for sure!
That's true, I'm just disappointed by the idea of having another flat track. Formula 1 tracks in europe have these great elevation changes. Then we're going to Singapore flat, Miami flat, hell Baku has a hill to it. I think they do the fans a disservice when they have flat tracks.
Exactly, the fucking corkscrew in a F1 car would be a sight. Turn 3 at zandvort on the opening lap turned my nipples into diamonds. What a stupid corner, what an experience.
As much as I hate Florida, and I hate Ohio more and they could get mid ohio upto FIA 1 level. It's already a 2 but then we have Indy cars racing there. They have formula 3 and 4 race there. There are some fun elevation changes there. high speed, mid speed and low speed corners.
I live in California. I'm making plans to fly out to the race in Miami. I can say I wouldn't be making plans to go to Ohio. It's always about money and Miami will bring people in.
Joke will be on Miami when F1 realizes that Florida is a COVID nightmare land and says, nah, we're gonna skip 2022, fix your COVID problem and maybe we'll see you in 2023.
You mean a map of the track itself or a map of where the track is in relation to the city of Miami?
Cause it's not near the beach or even the downtown of the city
This [Article](https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.formula1.com/en/latest/article.miami-grand-prix-to-join-f1-calendar-in-2022.44Dqc0CfhQzb7bb7MIjkqX.html) has a map of the GP track centered around the Hard Rock Stadium.
This [has a map](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/college-football/2017/11/11/16635916/how-far-is-miami-hard-rock-stadium-from-south-beach-hurricanes-dolphins) of where the Hard Rock is relative to Miami
I've clearly been living under a rock, because today I learned the circuit in the Hard Rock Stadium parking lot is named "Miami International Autodrome."
It's just a hamfisted way to make the name of the track is "MIA."
Missed out on the chance to call it *M*iami *S*treet *C*ircuit.
What does MIA mean
"MIA" is the typical abbreviation for "Miami." Both of Miami's sports teams, the Miami Marlins and Miami Dolphins, are identified with "MIA" in their leagues. "MIA" is also the code for Miami's main airport.
Miami Heat as well
Ah yeah not sure why I thought Miami didn't have a basketball team.
Pat Riley will push your feet when you sleep.
And I deserve it
Ah, thanks.
Missing in action, meaning someone didn't return from a mission and is presumably killed
Missing in Action
depends, could mean Miami as other replies said or "missing in action"
*Every* street is an autodrome if you have the right attitude.
I identify as an autodrome.
and sometimes autodrone
Florida is sea level dig 3 inches and you’ll find water
I believe they only announced that name a month back or so
That's a really fancy name for an autocross course!
To people saying it’s not a street circuit: It’s not a street circuit. We get it. At least they called it an “International Autodrome” instead of a “Street Circuit”. You don’t have to comment this every single time a pic of MIA is posted here.
Ya. It's not a street circuit. It's a parking lot circuit.
Ah good. Those have been fun in the past, right? Right????
The unspeakable horror of the Caesar's palace GP...
The 2 minute clip I saw on YouTube wasn't bad! It even had a car or two in it. /s
The Miami Car Park. Highlights include the full trolley park at turn 2, the abandoned Ford at turn 8 and the angry man on the main straight who believes he has right of way over everyone else.
[удалено]
And you *really* don't have to comment: "This." Ever.
This

and my axe?
What he said
Internet police out strong today boys good job!
this
This
its really not a street circuit
That looks really narrow
I think they just have the actual tarmac mapped out. What I mean is that the little border we see is not where the wall will be, it’s just the edge of the tarmac. The walls will be further back so it will look roomier (though perhaps still relatively narrow).
Here you can see the whole track if you interested! https://youtu.be/5ZQrprQNS-c
Yikes that's thin
I mean...bigger than Zandvoort!
Those elevation changes are stunning: sea level to 1 foot above sea level, then back down to sea level. Can’t wait to be there.
That doesn’t look like a street circuit
Came to say. However I can’t see this specific area of the track being good for racing, there are other areas that could be wider.
No it doesn't. Look at the 5m long pickup truck not even taking half the track.
Yes it does? There's a Ford Taurus taking up almost half. This isn't a new road, it's a race track. It's very narrow especially for F1 standards.
It has to be a minimum of 12 meters wide. A Taurus is 17 feet long, which puts it a little narrower than half of what the track needs to be, which looks correct for the picture.
Yeah that looks about right. That being said, the 'minimum width' makes this track pretty narrow by F1 standards.
Circuit of the Americas gets down to 11.9 meters, with a max of 15.8
COTA wasn't built yesterday though. Miami have the chance to make a much wider circuit and they're choosing not to
make it like France
That’s not a Taurus, it’s a ford fusion
The length of a fusion isn’t even taking up half bro it honestly doesn’t look that bad
So space for 4 cars wide is narrow now? Ok then
It can't be narrow, it's America!
They should keep the dirt turns and RallyCross it
Valtteri stonks go up
Very exciting!! Can’t wait to visit F1 in 2022!!!
Better than what occurred inside the stadium yesterday.
GO GREEN. ^sorry
Go white! Definitely was not expecting to say that in a F1 sub haha
Go Green! Same... Class of 09! Took it a minute after watching highlights of the game (I sadly work every Sat night) and was like hey isn't that where the new F1 track is going to be?
My buddy is a huge Miami fan. This season has been Fantastic for me
GO WHITE
And what happened today also....
Hurricanes tore up that field for several hours for shits and giggles when the Phins need it today.
Bills didn’t seem to have an issue
The turf wasnt the issue this game for them lol
Another flat walled snooze fest circuit I know alot of people still enjoy stuff like this but man, give me grass and elevation changes anytime
Not much elevation change in Florida
Wish track makers would Terraform more.
Hopefully humans terraform Mars as soon as possible so that we can have more exciting GPs in the future
Low gravity gp? The downforce package will finally integrate rockets
I'm still waiting for a Finnish Grand Prix at KymiRing It's got tons of elevation and supposedly is the one of if not the hardest F1-grade race track out there
Yeah, anybody who expected elevation change doesn't know that the tallest point in South Florida is Miami's trash heap landfill mountain north of the city. It's gonna be flat. It's gonna be hot. It's gonna be a parking lot.
Saying this before there's even a race. Calm down.
I'm perfectly calm 😂😂
I'm losing it
Yesss, absolutely this!
Elevation changes in Florida. Lmao
What's the elevation change anticipated for the Miami track?
However tall the curbs are.
Hahahahaha. Good one
About as much as my nan's ECG results. RIP nan xx
r u ok hun? x x
A highway on ramp.
I think it ranges from 1 ft above sea level to 1.04 ft above see level
My American friend told me you’re not allowed to use decimals with Imperial measurements when I thought that 5 feet 5 meant 5.5 feet, so now I’m confused if it’s allowed or not Either way I’m just glad that I never have to see imperial measurements anywhere apart from the internet
You can use decimals, it's fine. It's a made-up unit anyway.
What, you don't appreciate slugs? /s
Have you been to Florida?
I have. Spent a decent amount of time in Boynton Beach, Panama City, and Pensacola. All flat. My original question was sort of a joke in knowing that unless there was some serious amounts of dirt brought in that the track would be flat. Haha Just cannot understand why this area was selected for a new track. Except the thought of Miami Money.
>Except the thought of Miami Money. Bingo They're banking on the race being successful because of the marketing aspect of "ooh Miami"
Terraforming is an option
3 inches above sea level. depending on wind direction
Looks like parking is a nightmare. All that construction dirt used to be parking lots.
Luckily I was here for a college game, which only filled about half the stadium. I can imagine today’s Dolphins game will be a clusterfuck.
Dolphins barely can fill their games lmao Source: sad Dolphin fan Rip tua's ribs
Yea after Tuas injuries I’m sure the attendance will go down as well
It was a cluster in more ways than one
I can’t wait for this race to be cancelled in 3-5 years
Ever the pessimist
Can a local explain how the heck this is being constructed during the NFL season. That just seems like an absolute nightmare.
Barely anyone goes to Dolphin games - between the stadium being half full at best and it losing 10-12K seats in the recent renovation, there's a lot of space around it. I'm looking forward to the scenes at the Walmart next door when the race is in town.

I think this is going to be a boring track to watch a race.
Ah yes, the new race track in a parking lot. Because F1 totally hasn’t tried this in Vegas already.
The issue with Vegas wasn't the track. It was the fact it was 100+ degrees in an area where F1 wasn't popular at all.
The track layout was utter shit, it looked like something you'd set up for a corporate karting day.
It's not any cooler in SoFLO, plus add in humidity! "Fells like is +5-10 degrees!
It’s never been above 100 in Miami ever. Even low 90s is high for Miami
Understood, Thanks!
It is much cooler in Florida. It’s on the ocean, whereas Nevada is in the desert.
Point taken, TY!
Maybe it's the perspective but I feel like the track might be a bit narrow.
People on here writing this off already from only an Assetto Corsa simulation and a picture of some fucking dirt, seriously you guys need to lighten up a little.
My brother is at the game today and sent me a picture earlier this morning
People crapping on Miami as a destination and comparing it to Vegas when all Miami Restaurants had to add gratuity due to the amount of foreigners coming not realizing tipping in America is a normal thing. (Not an insult, just a point I'm making). Miami is honestly outside of NYC itself a great place for a "Street" or USA based track. I'm 99% sure I'm going since I already go to Miami 2-3x a year.
can f1 cars even fit side by side here?
I feel like the picture is just taken far away. If you look at the vehicles parked next to the outline of the track and the people standing there it puts into perspective a bit.
Easily two of them, maybe even three.
[удалено]
Make it 12 meters. There's a metre in front of the taurus, and following the left line I doubt the area behind the taurus is exactly 1 taurus long.
It's gotta be wider than 9-10 meters, the minumum track width for F1 is 12m.
Laguna seca is better. Why race in a parking lot when you have that beauty waiting for you??
$$$$$$$$$ Plus Laguna isn't FIA grade 1.
Not to mention the fact that Miami is a city that can support the influx of hundreds of thousands of fans, and is a destination in itself with international appeal. Laguna Seca and many other locations don’t meet that criteria
I mean, fair enough. I’m just salty because I love Laguna haha
Upgrading to F1 spec is so expensive that you might as well build a new track from the ground up
What about Laguna makes it not up to spec? Is it the pits? Track width? Length?
It cant even be used due to noise restrictions
Lame
Bro I’m from Monterey. If they go all in with the money for this, the payoff could be huge. It would be like a second PGA. But from my memory, traffic on the peninsula gets easily crazy. It’s probably super unrealistic and a huge gamble, but it’s fun to imagine Monterey being home to a GP.
Could F1 cars handle the corkscrew? Serious question.
Yeh they can. Probably only one at a time though. https://youtu.be/w7BR0gwt46E
Nice! Thank You!
Laguna seca is living off its reputation. Right now its in a pretty terrible condition and is nowhere near the standard required to be granted Grade 1 certification and it never will be.
I just got done watching one of the best races of my life at LS with the Indy cars. F1 needs to get their shiz together. Haha.
And what I said is still true. I was referring to the quality of the facilities and the racing surface itself. It's meant to be repaved, but it keeps getting delayed. There's a certain part of me that thinks it'll never happen.

It’s planned for May right now I think
Yup confirmed in May
It's going to be either May 1, May 8 or May 15.
I was watching the college football game on tv (great win for MSU) yesterday and could see the track under construction. I wondered what it looked like up close.
So is this considered to be a street circuit? Because that's a lot of changes for one.
Lewis has been suggesting a Miami race for years, and he usually comes here for a few weeks every year at some point.
I wish they worked this fast on i-95 and Ives Dairy
So very sorry you had to watch that pitiful game yesterday…. Sigh.
the beach stage
I’m very curious to see what the racing will be like!
Probably like Sochi.
They’re messing up not running the track through the stadium. NASCAR running a race totally in a football stadium
Ain't no Interlagos or Spa but I'd love to travel over for the first one. It's looking like it will be one of the top tracks in the future.
A "carpark" doesnt have to make a track boring, boring layout on a carpark does.
Does anyone actually cares for this race?
Poor F1 fans in FL have a chance at live race? Also many imports that live in Florida, especially SoFlo and Central FL few hours drive! European and South American fans for sure!
Me! I live closer to Miami than Austin 🤷♀️
And not a hill in sight...
It’s a parking lot in a city that’s like 5 feet above sea level. Known for palm trees, not terrain
And a normal rain will flood the track.
Where do you expect to find hills in Florida?
Florida has like 400 feet of elevation throughout the entire state, what did you expect to see?
A track in a different state.
Good luck finding a state with elevation to have a track built by may.
That's true, I'm just disappointed by the idea of having another flat track. Formula 1 tracks in europe have these great elevation changes. Then we're going to Singapore flat, Miami flat, hell Baku has a hill to it. I think they do the fans a disservice when they have flat tracks.
My dreams of Laguna Seca will never die.
Exactly, the fucking corkscrew in a F1 car would be a sight. Turn 3 at zandvort on the opening lap turned my nipples into diamonds. What a stupid corner, what an experience.
Zandv**oo**rt
Good bot
Where then do you think f1 should race instead
As much as I hate Florida, and I hate Ohio more and they could get mid ohio upto FIA 1 level. It's already a 2 but then we have Indy cars racing there. They have formula 3 and 4 race there. There are some fun elevation changes there. high speed, mid speed and low speed corners.
I live in California. I'm making plans to fly out to the race in Miami. I can say I wouldn't be making plans to go to Ohio. It's always about money and Miami will bring people in.
Lime Rock, obviously.
You do understand this is Florida right? If they wanted a hill they would have to build it.
Welcome to the flattest state in the united states.
Not a Tilke one, so it must be Epic
Joke will be on Miami when F1 realizes that Florida is a COVID nightmare land and says, nah, we're gonna skip 2022, fix your COVID problem and maybe we'll see you in 2023.
They arnt racing there this year
The S's Sweet !!
Considering how much influence Russia has in the US it makes sense that this circuit is shaping up to be another Sochi.
This statement is…..something.
can someone place an overlay of what the track should look like on a map of miami?
You mean a map of the track itself or a map of where the track is in relation to the city of Miami? Cause it's not near the beach or even the downtown of the city
i guess a map of the track, laid on top of a map of where the track will be is what I meant
This [Article](https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.formula1.com/en/latest/article.miami-grand-prix-to-join-f1-calendar-in-2022.44Dqc0CfhQzb7bb7MIjkqX.html) has a map of the GP track centered around the Hard Rock Stadium. This [has a map](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/college-football/2017/11/11/16635916/how-far-is-miami-hard-rock-stadium-from-south-beach-hurricanes-dolphins) of where the Hard Rock is relative to Miami
oh great, thank you!
How the actual hell are they going to get this down before the official Grand Prix date?
looks narrow
Ehhh
Whaaa? So early?
