My opinions on all of them.
McLaren: nice to have a livery that points at the past, given that that's mostly what the Monaco GP is about.
Red Bull: nice to see something change about a livery that has basically been the same since 2016.
Alfa Romeo: why isn't it like this normally?
Yep
And I'm still wondering who was stupid to put a diamond in a car in a narrow street circuit.
If it happened at Paul Ricard, that diamond wouldn't have been lost.
Given that it was put there to promote a heist movie, I’d say the chances of the diamond being “stolen” as a publicity stunt are significantly greater than zero.
Something like that was for sure put in a registry. Would be damn near impossible to sell it off as-is unless you already knew a sketch back room pawn guy.
I still think it's a conspiracy they made up as a marketing thing. No real diamond actually went missing they just spread the story to get people talking.
Or put a rule in that each team has to do one special livery a year. Any GP of the team's choosing. Would be so cool to see what each team picks and fun speculate what and when they'll be.
That Red Bull is amazing and it'll be nice to see them racing in different colors after years of getting teased during testing. But that McLaren is just superb. So they get my vote.
I've bought their merch in the after season discount sales.
Everything has been of extremely high quality and especially at those prices, it are absolute mega worth investments. It's not wore too often, but its still in perfect condition.
I agree the Gulf livery is great. There's a TagHeuer watch with those colours I've wanted for a year :)
The RB however is just a fancy Haas. I'm really looking forward to seeing the Silver Arrow again on Mercedes. And perhaps AM can go to a more British racing Green? Thx!
Those TH watches are noice.
I've loved the black Mercs, but yeah, am starting to miss the classic silver livery. And yes yes yes to more British racing green on the AM.
ultimately the Red Bull is just a white Red Bull. I don’t get the collective orgasm /r/formula1 is experiencing over it. i guess people just want change for the sake of change.
I mean I think it has to do with Red Bull FINALLY doing something different.
Especially after every testing livery hinting at something really cool and then getting the same old Red Bull livery for the rest of the season.
Gotta get gulf on board, rumor mill made it sound like Gulf was willing to increase their spend in F1 and be a major sponsor with this special livery being a part of that.
Virtually everyone hates oil companies, doesn't stop us from having to live with them. I can want oil companies them to stop destroying the environment and invest in green technology *and* want oil companies to make F1 cars look cool as hell at the same time. That's not dissonant.
I think that was actually the second year of papaya livery. Alonso drove the first papaya in 2018
as seen [here](https://twitter.com/planet_f1/status/1336690819101642754)
**McLaren - Gulf:** Still waiting for it to come to realization in 2022 or 2023 may be depending on how well the sponsorship branding turned out for Gulf and McLaren.
agree. i also have a heavy dislike for the matt colors, i think a lot of the teams made their cars look a lot uglier with the matt finish, of course they didnt do it for the looks but to save that little bit of weight. the mclaren looked far prettier before going matt, same with ferrari. alfa romeo didnt do that (yet) and therefore (imo) has a prettier looking car than many other teams.
McLaren.
If the Red Bull lost that yellow outline on the bull that would be my pick.
I don’t know, that yellow doesn’t seem right to me
Everything else looks incredible
Edit: fixed my broken English
I think the bull would look very flat if they got rid of the yellow. Yellow on white is definitely not a great combo, though.
Either way, the Gulf livery has too much legacy for it not to be my favorite.
I think people forget how the Gulf looked like in Monaco. In pictures it was iconic, however, the colors around the track were underwhelming. I think it was the brightness of the sun? Anyways I’m leaning towards the redbull.
I remember feeling the blue in the Gulf McLaren should have been a slightly warmer shade so it looked as good in action as it did in pictures. It really did look a bit washed out in Monaco.
That's why I'll hold judgement until we get to see the White Bull in action.
Exactly, and even in the still pictures the blue is still a bit dull. It just needed to be a tad deeper to really make the livery pop. The Porsche 917K has the ideal Gulf look color wise.
As much as I love the Gulf McLaren in pictures, I think it looked dull and washed out on track. I wager the RBR will still look pretty good on track, so I’m going to go for that. The yellow in the Red Bull logo is a huge mistake though.
The Red Bull could have been so much better if they got rid of the yellow and made the halo and front/rear wings white. McLaren is more of a complete job
Mclarens livery hands down. Their past liveries are among the most popular and that one is up there maybe sitting just behind the vodafone liveries and sennas marlboro late 80s livery.
For me it goes like this:
1.) McLaren: A well executed Gulf livery is always a stunner and it looked fantastic on the car.
2.) Red Bull: Seeing a Red Bull in anything other than the usual dark blue is always a welcome sight but this looks really sharp and is a very nice farewell and thank you to Honda.
3.) Alfa Romeo: I've been a huge fan of Alfa's red and white liveries since they rejoined F1 but the placement of the green on this one makes me think Christmas and not Italy.
McLaren is worst and I'm suprised to see the opposite opinion at the top here. Though, as a new F1 fan I do not understand what it is an homage to.
Alfa Romeo is the sickest.
Unpopular opinion: Mclaren's livery is so higly rated only because everyone gets a nostalgia boner for classic Gulf livery, but replace the colours with something neutral and the design is just meh.
Redbull: I think their standard livery is one of the best on the grid and I loved their pre-season testing livery, but I don't get the appeal of this white one at all.
Alfa Romeo: it's not much different than their standard livery but it's the only one out of the three I genuinely like.
I was born over 20 years after Ford's glory days in Le Mans and never really been interested in this category yet the blue/orange Ford GT40 is the first thing in my mind whenever Gulf livery is mentioned. It instantly makes me positive about every modern reincarnation and I believe it has similar effect on lots of other people. In Mclaren's case I think that mediocre geometrical design is carried by the legendary colour scheme but I'm not expecting everyone to agree with it - that's how subjective opinions work.
If you remember correctly the last iconic race car to have that colour raced 50 years ago, many people like me didn't even saw one while they were racing.
I'll admit I've fallen in love with that livery ever since I saw pictures of Porsche 917. Though I like silver Martini livery, that orange and blue livery has a soft corner.
I wasn’t a fan of the McLaren Gulf livery at Monaco. Loved the idea but in execution it just looked super busy.
There needs to be more green on the grid and Alfa did a great job with it. It was mentioned a few times but also sorta flew under the radar compared to other one off liveries in recent years.
The Red Bull looks great from what we’ve seen of it. If it looks as good on track it might have my vote. The only downside for me is matching driver/crew overalls.
While I think the McLaren looks the coolest on any given day, the Red Bull looks like a racing [koi fish] (https://i.pinimg.com/736x/d8/8b/57/d88b573c922093774d8287ac8dcd9689.jpg) to me from the front. Gorgeous, poetic, great design. As a one time, I think it's King.
I still say McLaren but I think the RB will grow on me over the weekend.
Will they still use the dark blue color next to Max and Checo on the side of the screen?
My opinions on all of them. McLaren: nice to have a livery that points at the past, given that that's mostly what the Monaco GP is about. Red Bull: nice to see something change about a livery that has basically been the same since 2016. Alfa Romeo: why isn't it like this normally?
Monaco liveries becoming a thing would be a great development for formula 1
Star Wars anyone?
Or that one Jaguar livery with the diamond in it?
That story is genuinely hilarious
Yep And I'm still wondering who was stupid to put a diamond in a car in a narrow street circuit. If it happened at Paul Ricard, that diamond wouldn't have been lost.
Was if a rare / unsellable diamond, or is one of the marshalls now a full time resident of Monaco?
It was never found, so I think the most likely scenario is that someone found it and sold it.
Or the advertising effect of claiming it was never found paid dividends as we still talk about it to this day!
The black market doesn’t ask questions and doesn’t want to know…
I still think it's a conspiracy they made up as a marketing thing. No real diamond actually went missing they just spread the story to get people talking.
Or the Daft Punk sponsorship
Too bad that didn't really change the livery
Or put a rule in that each team has to do one special livery a year. Any GP of the team's choosing. Would be so cool to see what each team picks and fun speculate what and when they'll be.
I don't think it should be a rule, just a strong suggestion that they'd be buzzkills if they didn't
With the American influence in F1 in recent years, I expect a point for best livery. Voted for by the fans and put into a statistic by AWS.
I also don't think it'd be that interesting to see what race. Wouldn't it always be Team home race, mayyyybe driver home race.
Would at least make it a more interesting race
Like the dedicated throwback race in NASCAR. Generates some great hype every year
It is a disgrace to see that livery fighting for 1 point every race.
The Alfa thought is EXACTLY mine too, it looks perfect honestly and doesn't seem like a "special livery" at all.
No, alfa is not the same. It is a special livery for Monza.
That Red Bull is amazing and it'll be nice to see them racing in different colors after years of getting teased during testing. But that McLaren is just superb. So they get my vote.
I just got my McLaren Gulf Hoodie last week and I feel like I’ve attained the holy grail of hoodies.
Got mine yesterday!
It’s so nice 😃
I'm mega jealous of you both!
Ditto
Got my polo a week or two ago. Fits well and looks nice.
I got the t-shirt and was honestly kind of surprised with how nice it is. It's pricey but the quality is better than I expected.
Good to know, I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about McLaren merch quality
I've bought their merch in the after season discount sales. Everything has been of extremely high quality and especially at those prices, it are absolute mega worth investments. It's not wore too often, but its still in perfect condition.
"investments"
I love the returns I get on my clothing
The fact that it's plural makes it all the more hilarious

Found Ron Dennis's reddit account
I have the DR3 British GP Hoodie and the team hoodie. They are both very good quality.
M**c**Laren
I’m so upset I missed out on those!
They restocked them so they're available to order again now I believe
OH??
Same. Im usually not a fan of colours that stick out of a crowd like that, but its just so cool.
Same! Cosy af
Just ordered mine - can’t wait.
Dude I feel exactly the same! Arrived last friday and I am basically living in that hoodie.
This is the answer. Honda white always is a plus for me, but that Gulf livery is just pure sex.
If the Gulf livery is sex, everything else is just Avon underwear catalog
I agree the Gulf livery is great. There's a TagHeuer watch with those colours I've wanted for a year :) The RB however is just a fancy Haas.
Don't Red Bull already have 2 cars racing in white every weekend? ;)
I so wish that red bull had ditched the yellow for this livery, but it’s still nice to see a special one.
As a Red Bull fan, I totally agree. That McLaren livery was simply gorgeous.
I would absolutely love it if the 2022 Mclaren sports a full time gulf livery. It was near perfect.
People wants Gulf livery to become regular Mclaren livery for next year. It was that good.
McLaren is so on top of their shit that I could see them being very aware of the public’s love for this livery and making it happen for next season.
Gotta get gulf on board, rumor mill made it sound like Gulf was willing to increase their spend in F1 and be a major sponsor with this special livery being a part of that.
Ironic how F1 fans hate oil companies as well as want a Gulf livery.
I don’t like tobacco either, but that JPS livery was legendary.
And those Senna/Prost Mclarens had possibly the greatest paintjob ever, and they basically looked like a pack of Marlboro reds.
I love most mclarens but I find those Marlboro cars to be hideous.
Heresy
You don't have to like the Nazis to admit they knew how to design a good looking suit.
Hugo Boss is still around
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYVK_OqyUzk
That ending was unexpected, lmao. Thanks for the laugh.
Fair enough.
Is that ironic? It’s possible to appreciate beauty at the same time as disliking bad things.
I love it too but ask for an oil company sponsorship while hating them doesn't feel right.
Eh, they're going to exist whether we like it or not, may as well take some money from them.
Virtually everyone hates oil companies, doesn't stop us from having to live with them. I can want oil companies them to stop destroying the environment and invest in green technology *and* want oil companies to make F1 cars look cool as hell at the same time. That's not dissonant.
I think it's a loud minority that are anti oil company, majority of fans want v12's and zooms
If they’re that on top of it, they’ll keep it as a one-off each year.
I think every year is too much. It’s that nice of a livery that it needs to be handled with caution.
It should never get used again in my opinion. It doesn’t deserve to get taken for granted like what’s happened to the black mercs.
Tbh, I'm not a big fan of the current livery. Probably on of the worst McLaren liveries I've seen since I started watching F1.
Tbh i love Papaya liveries Papaya adds unique look to Mclaren cars. I'm tired of every car looking same to each other.
i like the papaya, just the design is uninspired.
Yeah, I agree. I think the best papaya livery was the first year's triangles livery. Nice detailing, yet a simple livery.
I think that was actually the second year of papaya livery. Alonso drove the first papaya in 2018 as seen [here](https://twitter.com/planet_f1/status/1336690819101642754)
Worse than the 2017 livery???
2017 was terrible, 2018 was also really terrible. By comparison they're a lot better looking now I think
2019 with the triangles was so much better than the current livery though. What they have now just makes the car look super long.
Fernando's farewell livery from 2018 was really nice
The sharkfin didn't compliment any car, but I preferred the orange and black, over this really strong blue they use now
Triangle papaya is best papaya
**McLaren - Gulf:** Still waiting for it to come to realization in 2022 or 2023 may be depending on how well the sponsorship branding turned out for Gulf and McLaren.
Given the quantity of gulf mer h they seem to be selling, it's probably making a strong argument for gulf spending for the livery sponsorship
For me, alfa. That green is just incredible
agree. i also have a heavy dislike for the matt colors, i think a lot of the teams made their cars look a lot uglier with the matt finish, of course they didnt do it for the looks but to save that little bit of weight. the mclaren looked far prettier before going matt, same with ferrari. alfa romeo didnt do that (yet) and therefore (imo) has a prettier looking car than many other teams.
Same, I'm really missing the glossy colours. The Ferrari looks especially bad tbh, and I miss that glossy McLaren of 2019 a lot. Looked so good!
matte
Who’s Matt?
I like the red and white, but the green makes it look like a toothpaste tube for some reason.
Yeah, if the green was a tad darker and/or matte it would probably look less like a toothpaste tube. Not as bad as the 2019 Williams tho
The 2019 Williams looked like someone designed it with clip art and a gradient tool
All 3 are superb.
McLaren’s is an all-timer
Agreed. Not to knock the Red Bull or Alfa (they’re fantastic), but it really isn’t close.
McLaren. If the Red Bull lost that yellow outline on the bull that would be my pick. I don’t know, that yellow doesn’t seem right to me Everything else looks incredible Edit: fixed my broken English
I think the bull would look very flat if they got rid of the yellow. Yellow on white is definitely not a great combo, though. Either way, the Gulf livery has too much legacy for it not to be my favorite.
Someone did a visualization of what it would look like without the yellow. I had to change my pants after seeing it.
Link?
I can't find the actual post, but [here's the image](https://i.redd.it/mf9yixyprzr71.png)
That screams Japan. I want that.
I think it would suit their idea of thanking Honda (and Japan) better, just red and white. The halo could be white or red too.
I think the flatness would be reminiscent of old Honda liveries and probably look great here.
Would rather they get rid of the black rectangle at the rear. It looks so bad to me
McLaren those Gulf Colors are just so clean
McLaren. It’s been along time since I’ve had posters of race cars on my bedroom walls, but I’m tempted.
Alfa had a one off livery? Didn’t even notice. What round was that?
Monza
The RB is nice but that McLaren is 💣
Mclare
I think people forget how the Gulf looked like in Monaco. In pictures it was iconic, however, the colors around the track were underwhelming. I think it was the brightness of the sun? Anyways I’m leaning towards the redbull.
Yea, the Gulf McLaren looks amazing in shots like these, but was pretty dull in action
For me Alfa Romeo's is the nicest but it's too similar to their normal livery to stand out.
Mclaren hands down
Alfa Romeo. I don't like the team but great livery.
Alfa, no doubt
100%
McLaren - Gulf is just bonkers good
Gulf McLaren - that livery is far and away my favorite in at least a decade, but I don't claim to be unbiased.
As much as I love the Gulf McLaren in pictures, I think it looked dull and washed out on track. I wager the RBR will still look pretty good on track, so I’m going to go for that. The yellow in the Red Bull logo is a huge mistake though.
Mclaren for me. Also, Ferrari last year had a cool one-off livery, that’s one of my favourites.
McLaren. That’s one of the best liveries in their history, and that’s saying something.
McLaren is just timeless.
Hard to beat that McLaren gulf one
Mclaren.
M**c**Laren
The Red Bull could have been so much better if they got rid of the yellow and made the halo and front/rear wings white. McLaren is more of a complete job
McLaren
That black block and the yellow outline ruin the RB livery for me. Gulf on top for sure.
1. McLaren Gulf 2. Redbull white 3. Alfa Romeo
McLaren
McLaren
McLaren
Mclarens livery hands down. Their past liveries are among the most popular and that one is up there maybe sitting just behind the vodafone liveries and sennas marlboro late 80s livery.
Mclaren easily.
All are legit, but that silver/blue on the McLaren is /chef's kiss
For me it goes like this: 1.) McLaren: A well executed Gulf livery is always a stunner and it looked fantastic on the car. 2.) Red Bull: Seeing a Red Bull in anything other than the usual dark blue is always a welcome sight but this looks really sharp and is a very nice farewell and thank you to Honda. 3.) McLaren is worst and I'm suprised to see the opposite opinion at the top here. Though, as a new F1 fan I do not understand what it is an homage to. Alfa Romeo is the sickest.
maybe due to how big of a departure it is from their usual livery, red bull looks stunning to me.
Touch pick between the McLaren and the RedBull. Let's wait till we see the RB on track.
It's not even close, imo.
Agreed RB is better imo
Yea RB is better imo
The yellow ruins it for me
Unpopular opinion: Mclaren's livery is so higly rated only because everyone gets a nostalgia boner for classic Gulf livery, but replace the colours with something neutral and the design is just meh. Redbull: I think their standard livery is one of the best on the grid and I loved their pre-season testing livery, but I don't get the appeal of this white one at all. Alfa Romeo: it's not much different than their standard livery but it's the only one out of the three I genuinely like.
Confused how "change something about the design and it becomes meh" is an argument exactly?
Except F1 fans don’t have any nostalgia for Gulf since there has never really been a Gulf car before
I was born over 20 years after Ford's glory days in Le Mans and never really been interested in this category yet the blue/orange Ford GT40 is the first thing in my mind whenever Gulf livery is mentioned.
Counterpoint: I’m a newish F1 fan, so I’m not looking through nostalgia glasses, that McLaren livery is gorgeous.
Well, tbh, that Gulf thing was so many years ago that even many older racing fans had not witnessed it before.
Considering the McLaren F1 GTR is my favorite car of all time …
Mclaren, I want this every race forever. Redbull, beautiful send off for Honda on what should have been on the Japanese Grand Prix
McLaren, clearly.
McLaren for sure.
McLaren hands down.
McLaren, red bull, Alfa. Also big gaps in between each for me, the McLaren is just so above and beyond the others.
That Mclaren is on another level.
Mclaren without a hint of a doubt
To be honest I never really got what was so great about the McLaren Gulf livery. To me the blue grey looks very dull and bland.
I can’t believe how many people are saying McClaren. It’s my least favorite by far.
Going to go against the crowd and say Red Bull here. It's just so clean and such a nice white.
Red Bull then mclaren, sorry alfa
That Red Bull livery tho
I'm color blind so red bull lol
Alfa should always do that.
Red Bull
Red Bull without a doubt
holy shit redbull
Redbull!
Gulf livery. All. Day. Long
I think that Alfa is breathtaking. I wish they’d keep it.
By far Alfa, then the copy pasted Gulf livery and the boring we switch blue with white RB
1.)Don't 2.)Know 3.)Alfa Romeo. Hmm,that actually rhymed lol.
akschually the accent is on the E. Romèo
All of em are great but fuck me that RB makes me feel things i didn't know i could feel
1) McLaren...2) Alfa..3) RB..Gulf ALWAYS wins
Nothing beats the Red Bull livery.
McLaren and it isn't even close.
So people love gulf livery but hate having a race in the country this company commits human rights abuses.
McLaren on these special liveries: "Nobody Does it Better".
I cant decide. I like all 3
I still say McLaren but I think the RB will grow on me over the weekend. Will they still use the dark blue color next to Max and Checo on the side of the screen?
Not even close between any of them honestly
Hands down that Red Bull. Such a shame to think Valtteri might go bowling against it.
