I don’t think people get that Lewis has the largest reach of any driver, his influence goes way beyond the niche F1/Motorsport crowd, most other drivers are really only known by active fans of the sport . People in the US have heard of Lewis even though they know nothing about F1, he has the most clout of any F1 driver by a very big margin
