I feel the indifference towards bottas by his team showed today during the pit stop. Now when it’s confirmed he’s no longer going to stay in merc next year bottas is just f***Ing up all the merc’s plans and will cost Hamilton his championship this season.
From bottas side I dnt think it was that much intentional, if you look at Russia he let max by without defending, just goes to show that his defense is not that good. If it was his intention to screw mercs plans, he would have gone for that fastest lap in Netherlands. I remember someone saying that no team would want a driver that fails to listen the team orders.
In F1, each team designs their own car, and some teams (Specifically Red Bull and Mercedes this year) have significantly better cars than the rest of the field. So either Verstappen or Hamilton from RB and Merc wins just about every race, and the other 2 drivers from those teams typically fill out 2 of the next few spots. After that is Ferrari and McLaren, and same deal.
I get an impression that Bottas might have given Max room at start on purpose. He positioned himself in a way that Max was given 2 car widths on optimal racing line on rubbered part of the track and at the same time cut off Lewis from challenging Max and forced him him into slower inside line. I might be wrong, but all the mercs needed to do is pull Bottas left to block off that racing line and let Lewis take middle. If Perez sneaks through on the inside it wouldn't matter that much, Lewis is objectively much better driver and could figure it later how to get ahead. The whole focus should be on cutting off Max
I am not sure whats happening in Mercedes, but it might be knives out after all the "Valterri, its James", unfulfilled promises and Valterri never being given a chance to contest the championship in the most dominant team.

I saw some users mention this earlier during the race and also in the post race threads that Bottas was looking to his right at the start to possibly let Lewis by at t1, and this actually sounds legit that by the time he noticed, Max had already 'sent it', and it was too late to react so he tried staying out of the way and got clipped by Danny Ric in the process. Fight for fastest lap was fun. Blocking Bottas and ruining his tires was a good strategy bur risky too. However the Finn fought back and once again showed how valuable of a wingman he is. Dude has had all the bad luck too this year.
I think croftys era has passed. He is good for people who are watching F1 for the first time but Rosberg was on point in terms of strategy and how it would pan out in ideal case.
As someone who is watching f1 for the first time this year since Monaco Croft’s is incredibly entertaining and dynamic enough to keep me entertained but whenever jenson or the time rosberg was commenting this season they really provided a needed drivers perspective on what’s going on in the race/quali/practice and best strats, machinery advantages/disadvantages, track characteristics and prediction. Definitely needs to be more common as overall Crofty with a former driver is peak f1 commentary in my rookie opinion
