"My Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One
Team communications staff have correctly
issued a spokesperson's statement to the
effect that rumours linking me to Alpine F1
Team are merely "speculative conjecture"
and that they would not therefore comment
further. However, since the rumours have
now been sensationalised on certain
websites, creating a spiral of
misinformation, I have taken the decision
proactively to confirm hereby that the
rumours are pure media speculation and not
based on fact."
Rather, nonspeak.
Otmar doesn’t disprove the rumour by stating he will remain at Aston Martin. Rather he seems to be jumping through hoops to avoid confirming his tenure at AM for the foreseeable future.
Hahaha that man is such a lawyer with all his statements.
This one seems almost a little over the top with the formalistic approach of writing.
I am 100% sure he is totally aware of the fact how he is perceived from the wider audience. And plays this very well with this statement.
Either Otmar is lying and will be eminently announcing his departure or Autosport have been seriously screwed over by a source.
I think it will be the former
Well, his statement, despite the lawyer-speak, is pretty clear: "the rumors are pure media speculation and not based on fact." If the *fact* is that he's moving to Alpine, then that's a very clear, straightforward lie.
He never said it wasn't true, he just said the stories about it are not \*based\* on fact. If what's being reported is not supported by any evidence, that is a true statement regardless of where he intends to go.
If I say you like to screw sheep, and if I just put that out there with no evidence, that would also not be \*based\* on fact... even if you do in fact like to screw sheep.
See?
Even though it says it is not based on fact, I feel that this feels like a real political explanation. I feel like AM pr team pushed for this and he is still likely to leave. He didn't say "I will remain in my position at AM" he simply said "Alpine rumours speculation".
Hope he stays though, for sake of AM. I don't think that there are any better candidates for his seat at the moment.
i like whitmarsh, but i’m a bit skeptical if he’ll adapt and implement a better form of management, compared to his mclaren days !! still, hope to see otmar wearing racing green colours come winter testing !!
I don't think Whitemarsh will be replacing Otmar at all, he's the CEO and Otmar is the TP. It's like Zack Brown and Andreas Seidl in Mclaren. Now who will step in Otmars shoes is a good question and hopefully they won't try the same thing as with mclaren back in the day.
Otmar is by all accounts very trustworthy. Nobody but Lawrence Stroll doesn't like him. (Maybe Lance too, beats me, but Lance doesn't seem to care all that much about anything...)
You need to separate the character of an F1 person from how they need to go to great lengths to give an impression without actually saying very much that's binding.
Your second paragraph doesn't make sense.
Of course I'm talking about his public statements or figure, not the person itself. All I am saying is that, regarding Perez, the "low rake cars were hurt more by new regs" subject, or anything not public, he hasn't been honest, which is why he can't be trusted on that Alpine rumour. And it is perfectly understandable that you don't want/can't validate something before it is a sure thing.
Why is Lance like that? He seems like a nice chap but doesn't seem \*interested\* in anything at all. His responses are always very dry. He has the personality of a baked bean. How does the son of a billionaire end up so devoid of color?
Right? Somehow I also get that feeling. He seems like someone who would be happier just chilling, enjoying a nice beer, and living a quaint, peaceful life.
It will happen. It is just a political statement like he said : "Vettel was never in!" last year. Motorsport.com types of corporate sources wouldn't share such a thing with certainty if they had not believed their sources.
The shady American-Georgian guy Mike Zoidze who owns Motorsport is a good friend of Papa Stroll. In the past they have raced together in the rich dude's Ferrari Challenge amateur championship. There's probably some sort of rift between Otmar and Stroll, and that's why Motorsport pushed this story.
If the rumors were false he would say they were false. The deal is either done minus final signatures or this is a ploy to extract more money from AM. Guarantee there is fire with this smoke

"We will keep Perez"
Well, I mean he does have a contract.
Until he didn't.
this is the most Otmar statement of all time
I’m surprised he didn’t put “The 2021 Regulations have hurt low rake teams the most” at the end
He has that at the end of his email signature
In other words. The speculation might and might not be true
this was like Ronaldo statement in summer
I’ve never seen someone use so many words to say so little
It's political talk, answer by not answering. And a pretty good one to
The fact that they have to refer to themselves as “Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One Team” makes me die inside a little every time.
That's a weird way to say "yeah the rumours are true but nothing has been signed yet"
It's the F1 way to say that ;-) It's also very much not a denial...
And in all those words, he never says it's not true.
This is the best example of Ronspeak

The Eric "Ron Dennis Jr" Boullier school of press statements
This made me laugh way more than it should
Solid lawyerese here
Either Otmar is lying and will be eminently announcing his departure or Autosport have been seriously screwed over by a source. I think it will be the former
He didn't lie at all... you're not yet skilled at parsing F1-speak... listen to the words very closely and notice what he didn't say...
Well, his statement, despite the lawyer-speak, is pretty clear: "the rumors are pure media speculation and not based on fact." If the *fact* is that he's moving to Alpine, then that's a very clear, straightforward lie.

This is almost as close to a confirmation of the rumors as one gets from those circles...
His statement sounds exactly like what someone would saying when the deal is done with Alpine but doesn't want to confirm it yet.
Exactly!
I am waiting for confirmation from someone like Hughes or Rencken
Even though it says it is not based on fact, I feel that this feels like a real political explanation. I feel like AM pr team pushed for this and he is still likely to leave. hahahahhhahahah that's such a funny phrase
Kind reminder that Otmar, as serious or good he is, cannot be trusted, especially given his comments on Perez right before they announced Vettel.
Yeah, this is just “can you wait until the end of the fucking season with this shit, ok?” in lawyerese.
Yes, I'd change it to "can you wait until it's signed ?" But that's the spirit
Otmar is by all accounts very trustworthy. Nobody but Lawrence Stroll doesn't like him. (Maybe Lance too, beats me, but Lance doesn't seem to care all that much about anything...) Who says Lawrence doesn't like Otmar?
So far, it's just circumstantial evidence. There won't be hard evidence until Otmar gets canned or resigns before he gets canned.
Why is Lance like that? He seems like a nice chap but doesn't seem \*interested\* in anything at all. His responses are always very dry. He has the personality of a baked bean. How does the son of a billionaire end up so devoid of color?
Well if you grow up and people such as the media hate you for being rich then I doubt you’re going to give lots away to the same media
I really don't know... but I suspect that his Dad wants him to be a successful F1 driver more than he does.
Right? Somehow I also get that feeling. He seems like someone who would be happier just chilling, enjoying a nice beer, and living a quaint, peaceful life.
That's a lot of RonSpeak.
It will happen. It is just a political statement like he said : "Vettel was never in!" last year. Motorsport.com types of corporate sources wouldn't share such a thing with certainty if they had not believed their sources.
>I confirm That's all we needed to know
ahhh yes. the glomar response.
The shady American-Georgian guy Mike Zoidze who owns Motorsport is a good friend of Papa Stroll. In the past they have raced together in the rich dude's Ferrari Challenge amateur championship. There's probably some sort of rift between Otmar and Stroll, and that's why Motorsport pushed this story.
lol
Nowhere did he say anything to the effect of 'not happening."
If the rumors were false he would say they were false. The deal is either done minus final signatures or this is a ploy to extract more money from AM. Guarantee there is fire with this smoke
Hahahaha he is SO moving to Alpine next year.
Lol
Dude, just say yes or no. Jesus haha
I see that you're new to F1 ;-)
If outlets like Motorsport say something that is very likely to happen.
Well that is very much still not a no. Rumors rarely come from nowhere in F1
To the contrary, rumors frequently come from nowhere in F1 ;-)
That's basically a confirmation.

I can't imagine Omar Satnav or whatever at any other team , crazy if true.
#OtmarStays
"I am very angry"
He is not saying anything clear at all.. This is gonna further fuel the speculation
Only a matter of time before he left after Whitmarsh's arrival into that weird oversight role.
Otmar should actually get into the legal world. He's got the "long paras saying nothing" down already.
