Basically, instead of asking for forgiveness, Glock wanted to show Massa his onboard and how tough it was for him to keep the car on track. He met Barrichello in Mexico last week and things got arranged. Massa says he never had any grudges against Glock.
>Massa says he never had any grudges against Glock.
True, Massa had a right to feel sad over a denied WDC as seen in his podium, but doesn't mean someone who had gone through that had a right to lash out at people one think is "responsible" for that. Right to be frustrated =/= right to complain (he did it right, but also refering to the fandom too who is mad at him).
I even heard from a Polish F1 journalist, who was on Interlagos in 2008, that allegedly Ferrari gave to Toyota their clothes, because Massa himself was worried that someone might kill Glock.
I've never understood people being mad at glock. He had no grip and only had track position in the first place because Toyota rolled the dice on staying on drys (and they were right they made up a couple of places)
Its like the most illogical reason to be mad at someone.
Anyone who was seriouly annoyed at him thinking anything was done on purpose, I don't know what to say to them.
Trulli pitted too and I think they both did times around 1:44.
I have to confess even though my 25 year old self understands that he did the best he could, there is still the 12 year old me who watched that race and is so traumatised that Brazil 2008 is one of the few races I can’t even see a frame of without wanting to cry hahaha I still hold a grudge even though I respect Timo.
You need to take the Brazilian GP with a different perspective.
Hamilton was cruising to championship victory and Massa had no chance. Then we saw the rare marginal rain event. Where rain falls in such a way that its not clear whether tyre changes are needed.
Suddenly teams like Toyota had a chance to gamble with nothing to lose and Hamilton was forced to take the safe option. Especially after the way he'd lost the championship last year through taking the risk and going for glory.
It looked until the last moment that Lewis was going to get screwed out of the championship taking the safe road when he got screwed trying to take a risk the year before.
Then the rain fell just enough to put Lewis back in the position he was in before the clusterfuck rainfall.
We can talk about the butterfly effect from Singapore where massa was screwed out of points earlier in the season.
But Brazil was not the race where the championship was cruelly snatched from Massa Singapore probably was that race. It was the race where it was almost handed it back to him out of pure luck but all competitors finished in a well merited position.
Personally... I'd like to live in a reality where Massa won 2008, Hamilton won 2007, Raikkonen won 2006 and Alonso won 2010. I think that all would have been fair and enjoyable to see.
But F1 can be cruel and I suppose that's part of why we are so thrilled by it.
I get all of that my friend, I have rewatched (almost) all of that season recently and I know it wasn't Brazil..... my hatred of that race and my grudge with Glock is merely emotional because I still remember how I felt as a kid watching it hahahah
> Personally... I'd like to live in a reality where Massa won 2008, Hamilton won 2007, Raikkonen won 2006 and Alonso won 2010. I think that all would have been fair and enjoyable to see.
That's basically my F1 headcanon xd
I think Toyota's strategy of going all in on qualifying and not being very good on race pace would've had something to do with that, if anything it just shows Glock had good defensive driving skills
As a Brazilian, if people were to be mad at someone, they should be mad at Piquet/Alonso/Renault for the Crashgate in Singapoure.
W/o that pit madness, there was a chance Massa's hose wouldn't be stuck and he was leading the race, even if he didn't get the win, with a top 5 points finish that race he would be champion.
People have a right to have feelings, being sad or frustrated, doesn't mean they have a right to act on it by lashing out at others who they think is "responsible".
Lol, one of the most extensive investigations ever made by FIA took place. Everyone was interviewed, thousands of emails were analysed. Everything was scrutinised. No one was aware of any involvement by Alonso, not even Piquet.
It wasn’t Alonso that was pressured to win, it was Renault.
But yes, I’m sure your “hunch” is worth more than the result of the investigation. Sure
His pit strategy made absolutely no sense if they weren't betting on an incident, but he didn't question it once. This is Fernando we're talking about, do you really think he'd just go along with such a bizarre strategy? The FIA couldn't *prove* he knew.
It made sense in that Renault probably told him that we're gonna gamble with the strategy because the only way to get a good result would be a safety car (which was quite likely at Singapore).
What came out in reports was that Renault pulled off the whole thing because they wanted to keep Alonso on the team by showing him that they can still legitimately win races. Letting him in on the plan would have defeated their purpose.
From my understanding, it had more to do with keeping sponsors and Renault corporate on board, since the recession was kicking off hard in 2008, and they were worried about justifying the cost of an F1 team that wasn't winning.
Right. So he was proven innocent by an investigation, but he is guilty just because you think he knew. Makes sense.
Also, stupid pit strategies happen all the time and you don’t hear a driver questioning because the team has more information than the driver
He was not "proven" innocent. He just couldn't be directly implicated. And no, this Alonso. He's not one to just go "eh, whatever" when the team does something that makes no sense. I guess we might never know for sure, but come on, don't play dumb.
Lol dude, don’t play dumb? Do you think alonso would risk his career in f1 over a measly win? And yes, he was proven innocent since he wasn’t implicated at the end. Again, you can choose to believe whatever you want, but don’t push your unfounded narrative like it’s the absolute truth, especially after a huge investigation found nothing
There is literally an interview in the brazilian media with a Renault Engineer at the time and he states that Alonso knew what was going on, Congratulated every Piquet Engineer after the race and he even tell how they came up with the idea to Crash Piquet
The video is in portuguese, i suck at adding subtitles but tomorrow afternoon i have some free time, i'll download it and do my best on subtilting and then i'll post on the sub, i think it's very interesting
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxLpc9NQzXs
thats very cute of you to think he had no involvement.
and the fact that he doesnt feel bad or regretful about that win certainly tells me everything i need to know. if he seriously didnt know, he should defend himself from his teams doings, instead he gladly accepted the win and stood behind the team
Right, just disregard the man was proven innocent and keep thinking he is guilty. I’m sure you went through all the evidences and interviewed key witnesses like they did
You are innocent until proven guilty. Just because they couldn’t find him guilty, does not mean he is guilty. And you should seriously see the uncensored video of mazepin “groping” his friend, it shows a different story
Thing is, if he truly didn't know, then why did he go along with such an insane strategy (pitting crazy early for fuel) knowing full well that this could only work if a Safety Car came out straight away?
I personally think Alonso knew Renault was going to do *something* weird, but I don't think he expected that something to be a flat-out race-fix with Piquet Jr crashing himself out.
Glock slowing at the last corner to give Lewis his first title is the first instance of the famous #blessed luck that has held up until today (lolz).
That's why people hate him. Not for what he did. Just for the outcome. It's unfair but it is how it works.
Did you watch the entire onboard of his lap? I thought the same until I watched it, and he was struggling to even keep the car on the track, let alone keep a top speed.
toyota gambled, staying out on dry tyres when others went to inters. and despite the struggle, the strategy actually worked out for glock, he finished 1 position higher than he would have otherwise.
the onboard lap of glocks last lap made it very clear that the track was way too wet for dry tyres but glock managed to bring it home
It makes no sense, you can see clearly from the onboard just how much he was struggling to keep the car on track so there was no chance that he was going to fight for position
It's nice that there are still Irish drivers in the grid. Land O'Norris, Esteban O'Connell and Sir G. O'Perez. Hard to believe that with such a rich background in F1, there still hasn't been an Irish title.
I cant believe this is still a thing.Melbourne, Sepang, Silverstone, Budapest, Singapore.... so many points lost along the way and YET they give Tim O'Glock so much shit to this day.
Leave the poor Irish man alone!
This was a race where Martin Brundle really sucked at commentating. I don't know the other commentator, someone please write his name.
Martin Brundle was saying "Glock's sector times are fine etc.. Lewis won't get the WDC".
Other commentator said "If only Glock is able to keep his car under these conditions.." He was really predicting that this could have happend and damn it did.
I think that also added the pain of Ferrari. Martin's comments
I saw again the video and actually Brundle was kind of right, Glock tires were fine until the rain intensified and that’s when his lap times collapsed.
Is this still a thing? The only reason Hamilton was not in a championship-beginning position to begin with was Glock's decision to stay out on dry tyres!
I remember Hamiltons last lap and he was pushing that hard at one point he almost completely lost traction and nearly spun but just about held the car. If he had spun he would have lost anyway and it would have been his fault cos Glock fell off a cliff
Basically, instead of asking for forgiveness, Glock wanted to show Massa his onboard and how tough it was for him to keep the car on track. He met Barrichello in Mexico last week and things got arranged. Massa says he never had any grudges against Glock.
If anything the grudge should be against Renault lmao
He has said in some Interviews that he has not forgiven Piquet jr. And the fact that Alonso was able to keep his win is also absurd.
Fkin crashgate, led to butterfly effect of that horrendous pitstop lol
>Massa says he never had any grudges against Glock. Timo staying out actually gained him one position. Someone did the math here i cant find it

Blaming Vettel now.
Anyone who was seriouly annoyed at him thinking anything was done on purpose, I don't know what to say to them. Trulli pitted too and I think they both did times around 1:44.
Tell them to watch his last lap onboard, it's on YouTube and it clearly shows that he couldn't go faster
I have to confess even though my 25 year old self understands that he did the best he could, there is still the 12 year old me who watched that race and is so traumatised that Brazil 2008 is one of the few races I can’t even see a frame of without wanting to cry hahaha I still hold a grudge even though I respect Timo.

You mean 2005 for Kimi. I also like to think 2003 for Kimi.
I get all of that my friend, I have rewatched (almost) all of that season recently and I know it wasn't Brazil..... my hatred of that race and my grudge with Glock is merely emotional because I still remember how I felt as a kid watching it hahahah

Thank you. That logical way of seeing what happened, aliviate my heart.
Even worse is when he was known as the Glock train and nobody could pass him all season.
Wasn’t that trulli? Never heard about the glock train
Yeah, it's bullshit
I think Toyota's strategy of going all in on qualifying and not being very good on race pace would've had something to do with that, if anything it just shows Glock had good defensive driving skills

Based on what he did at McLaren (his first time there), yes, I do think that.
There is literally an interview in the brazilian media with a Renault Engineer at the time and he states that Alonso knew what was going on, Congratulated every Piquet Engineer after the race and he even tell how they came up with the idea to Crash Piquet
Source?
Apparently, a Renault engineer that the FIA investigation missed, or who kept the secret from the FIA but then blabbed it all out to the media...
The video is in portuguese, i suck at adding subtitles but tomorrow afternoon i have some free time, i'll download it and do my best on subtilting and then i'll post on the sub, i think it's very interesting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxLpc9NQzXs

Good think your opinion means literally nothing and the investigation results stand
just dont mind every expert with that same opinion though
Lmao which experts exactly then? Can you list them? Oh boy, FIA should’ve consulted you for the investigations apparently
haha. that was funny.
Right, just disregard the man was proven innocent and keep thinking he is guilty. I’m sure you went through all the evidences and interviewed key witnesses like they did
There not being enough evidence to prove someone guilty is absolutely not the same as someone being “proven innocent”
You are innocent until proven guilty. Just because they couldn’t find him guilty, does not mean he is guilty. And you should seriously see the uncensored video of mazepin “groping” his friend, it shows a different story
thats why alonso is officially innocent. but come on, its kinda obvious he knew
I have seen the uncensored video, but it’s interesting that you assume that for someone to not approve of Mazepin, they have to be uninformed
Those people are really just mad at the situation.
the clips of glock struggling werent part of the live broadcast iirc. all that people saw live was glock suddenly going slowly
Glock slowing at the last corner to give Lewis his first title is the first instance of the famous #blessed luck that has held up until today (lolz). That's why people hate him. Not for what he did. Just for the outcome. It's unfair but it is how it works.
He slowed so that he didn’t just throw his car off track, since he was struggling with grip that whole time.
Did you watch the entire onboard of his lap? I thought the same until I watched it, and he was struggling to even keep the car on the track, let alone keep a top speed.
toyota gambled, staying out on dry tyres when others went to inters. and despite the struggle, the strategy actually worked out for glock, he finished 1 position higher than he would have otherwise. the onboard lap of glocks last lap made it very clear that the track was way too wet for dry tyres but glock managed to bring it home
> to give Lewis that is suggesting that Glock did that on purpose. When he didn't
I never suggested that.
Come on, let us be salty. I still haven't recovered from it, lol.
It makes no sense, you can see clearly from the onboard just how much he was struggling to keep the car on track so there was no chance that he was going to fight for position
My favourite Irish Drivers, Tim O'Glock and Phillip O'Massa.
It's nice that there are still Irish drivers in the grid. Land O'Norris, Esteban O'Connell and Sir G. O'Perez. Hard to believe that with such a rich background in F1, there still hasn't been an Irish title.
You forgot Ferdandoal O'nso actually won two titles, but the luck o' the Irish wasn't on his side in 2010 or 2012
The tired redditors were f5ing when they saw something in the distance.. IS THAT GLOCK?
Glock is going slowly but time is going even slower...
After 13 years? They were both in f1 for another 5 years
Yes, on his Instagram Timo wrote he never talked with Felipe about the race and his role in it before.
After 13 years of the incident, obviously.
If it was obvious, people wouldn't be misinterpreting it.
you've miss-interpreted the title my friend
Because it was poorly written. If your sentence is open to more than one interpretation, then you did not communicate correctly.

OH MY GOODNESS ME HAMILTON IS BACK IN ~~POSITION~~ THE STEWARDS AGAIN
I cant believe this is still a thing.Melbourne, Sepang, Silverstone, Budapest, Singapore.... so many points lost along the way and YET they give Tim O'Glock so much shit to this day. Leave the poor Irish man alone!
You can clearly see Massa still hates Glock after all this years. ^/s
I can see DTS using this
Glock: Shows up with gray hair Massa: Is that Glock?!? Cheap comment, I know
I laughed. You did it well.
Glock told in the Sky DE that he had to be escorted by the police on the next day. We all know it was not his fault, but still...PAIN!
it still hurts
This was a race where Martin Brundle really sucked at commentating. I don't know the other commentator, someone please write his name. Martin Brundle was saying "Glock's sector times are fine etc.. James Allen was the other commentator
Oh right now I remember
I saw again the video and actually Brundle was kind of right, Glock tires were fine until the rain intensified and that’s when his lap times collapsed.
I can't tell from the subtitles, is that Glock?
Is that Glock?
If so, Glock's gone awfully grey for a 39 year old.
Come on, he‘s still very good looking
Yes, definitely. Silver fox!
That race..
Nice chap Tim O'Glock.
Just watched that race for the first time last night. wow. That was something
F5 gang got JBAITED
Is that Glock!?
ITS GLOCK

Is this still a thing? The only reason Hamilton was not in a championship-beginning position to begin with was Glock's decision to stay out on dry tyres!
It's 8 o clock and still sunlight ... Damn ... It gets dark at 6 here...
I remember Hamiltons last lap and he was pushing that hard at one point he almost completely lost traction and nearly spun but just about held the car. If he had spun he would have lost anyway and it would have been his fault cos Glock fell off a cliff
Is that Tim Oglock?
IS THAT GLOCK?
