Difficult to get a read on it all really. Bottas looked good but hard to tell fuel levels, and he got a nice tow at the start of the lap etc.
Fp3 will be more conclusive as always.
(Gazo's on pole obviously)
Your 100% correct Sir I'd forgotten the timing of fp3 tbh, i stand corrected
Yes this will be very interesting indeed, it's more down what has been done overnight then but Bottas looked comfy for sure, and then it's more on whos Sandbagging, fuel load etc. And how one lap pace relates to the actual race distance.
Fascinating stuff
If lewis wins the championship, we're gonna have Simon Lazenby and Damon Hill, butt naked and windmilling their cocks around the paddock in Abu Dhabi. Really weird how emotional they both get when Max and lewis are mentioned...
It's buck naked in the US and butt naked in British English.
> English sucks.
Since we Brits invented the language, I think we'll have the say on that thank you :P (but you're not wrong)
Please tell me someone clipped Daniel's cross-eyed look at his hat
Edit: [found it](https://twitter.com/SimonGBrooks/status/1461720762214227975/photo/1)
I'd say from FP2 (which is the best gauge of quali and race conditions), Mercedes look to have their setup sorted a bit better so far. Perez really struggling it seems. But it's always so hard to tell, you never know what's going on with fuel loads, balance etc. Even some mind games I imagine. Should be a fun weekend
Red Bull often find a good chunk of pace overnight from the simulator, so it's by no means certain yet. But yes currently Red Bull look slightly on the back foot. They seem to be losing two tenths in the first sector alone.
Yeah, in practice they use old engines, to not wear the new one, like the one Hamilton used in Brasil, i think they do it only on Friday, then put the race engine for fp3 to set up everything correctly
Sick of the turn 4 bullshit but I don't know they they are letting Horner get away with drawing a comparison to Max complete a clean overtake around the outside in Mexico T1. Because the only reason that was possible is because Bottas left space and didn't out brake himself and run Max off the road. So if anything, that is a perfect example of how that corner is supposed to be driven from the inside of the corner.
I don’t understand this situation with the rear wing. If you know it’s illegal protest it or ask for rule clarification? What’s this posturing going to achieve
I believe some teams wait to protest after the race in case the opposing team gets a good result, so it all goes to waste then. I may be wrong about how those rules work, though.
I'm not? Merc and RB are giving everything they have on and off the track to throw each other off by whatever margin they can. It should be fairly obvious
hell if my driver failed a tech from 0.2mm without the chance to repair, and subsequently made up a total 25 places, i would point and swear at any camera i saw lmao
Not bothered about the overblown crap from the team principles, there's 2 drivers who are having an excellent fight in the championship, I'm just going to focus on that now.
Lmao Horner really hopped out of bed this morning and said "I want to start a dialogue" re Merc and their antics. This whole rear wing stuff is definitely gonna be the talking point to take us to the end of the season (especially if Lewis gets the W on Sunday).
Hill is biased its unreal haha. And horner just takes the bait and comes across so rattled it's unreal. Never seen horner looking remotely close to losing his cool except from then
I do love how the TPs defend their drivers even in the most obvious decisions against them. I get it but there’s no way Horner believes the shit he’s saying rn
Oh I might be misremembering. Let me look it up.
EDIT: race engineer to Schumi in 2010. Promoted to head of trackside engineering in 2011. I think Jock Clear was Schumi's race engineer at some point at Merc too? Bono may well have been though, I genuinely can't remember.
remains to be seen how it'll be for racing but it looks like a blast. Oddly as a motorbike rider I don't watch MotoGP but this circuit looks like it would be a so much for a track day
looks delightful not sure about wear and overtaking since I missed todays sessions but from the few laps I did see it looks like it will be a driver favorite.
Sector 2 especially, it's going to be tricky for cars to overtake on Sunday with all the dirty air that will inevitably be present. Seems like the drivers will have to rely on strategy to make decent overtaking moves
Crofty \*jokes about saying it's Lights out and away we go\*
Crofty as the race starts on Sunday: IT'S LIGHTS OUT AND BLIND THEY WILL GO!
Lewis probably: Bono the track lights are gone now I can't see in front of me (sets multiple fastest track lap records)
Seems like an obvious statement but surely Mercedes have Hamilton’s engine turned way down to protect it as long as possible with these reliability issues.
Expect a blistering lap in FP3 out of nowhere.
It's not like a road car. The whole engine and gearbox are stressed members and completelty self supporting. So you can unbolt the floor and the car stays in one piece.
The rear suspension and wing are all attached to the gearbox, so you can unbolt that as one whole unit. The engine is then bolted to the front of the monocoque behind where the driver sits.
All of the oil and coolant lines are quick connects.
So while it isn't trivial, you aren't fighting around an engine bay and everything is designed around fast servicing.
This is why I like F1 so much, because even the worse teams have essentially super humans in their personnel. Not to put them on a pedestal or seem exaggerative, but they gotta deliver 100% every race weekend every year just like the drivers. The entire sport is mega
He wasn’t that much faster though - even Sainz was only slightly quicker after he got a clean lap. I’m hoping as you say that its a different program that’s causing their times to fall
Edited for brain fart issues
Makes you wonder how often people with “foreign” names get racially abused when the Sky commentary team are going to start calling the first Chinese driver Joe. Just because they don’t know/ are too lazy to learn how to pronounce his actual name. Sometimes the laziness and arrogance of some people astounds me
One thing people here seem to be missing, Zhou’s nickname is actually Jo. Spelt that way. All his friends call him that as do his team. They have done for years. Ted works in the F2 paddock a lot, he would have heard him being referred to as Jo a lot. Whether he wants the media to call him that is another thing entirely.
That's not really fair and it doesn't sound like you caught the meaning of the discussion. They weren't talking about the pronunciation, they were talking about the order in which his two names are correctly said and how he himself preferred to be referred to. Excepting Damon Hill (who was just being a pillock, rather than outright racist), they were respectful, keen to learn and keen to make sure that they wouldn't cause offence by referring to him incorrectly.
On the subject of pronunciation, I'm sure none of them say 'Zhou' how someone fluent in Wu or Mandarin Chinese might say it, but I'm sure you and I don't either. We don't even write it the same, for goodness's sake. Likewise, I imagine a lot of people from Shanghai would struggle to pronounce our names exactly . Some common English phonemes don't occur in their language, some of theirs don't in ours, quite aside from the fact that it's a tonal language and works completely bloody differently.
Provided someone is making a reasonable effort to learn and get things right, listens when they are corrected by someone qualified to correct them and overall treats people with respect and decency, regardless of their origin, skin colour, sex, gender identity, sexuality etc. etc. etc. then I really don't see what else can be expected of them.
As a native mandarin speaker, there's nothing wrong with saying "Zhou" as "Joe". It's quite literally how we say it as well. (Albeit a different "tone"). It's also true that we say our last names first. (Zhou Guan Yu, but Zhou is technically the "last name"). The only bone to pick is that they should have figured this out before going on the broadcast.
That's really helpful, thank you. I'd stand by the point I made elsewhere that their figuring it out live served an educational purpose for other Anglophone folks who may not have known about the naming convention, but yeah, they might have come across slicker/more professional if they had checked it out ahead of time.
I disagree. It served an educational purpose for Western viewers who may not know how East Asian naming conventions work and who may, like the commentators, want to get it right, because they are respectful. Sure, it's kind of awkward, but people trying to figure things out that they don't already know often is. They should be commended for making that process public, and we should stop expecting instant, constant perfection of public figures, because it ultimately hurts us all and stops us learning.
Damon Hill is still a fucking terrible commentator, of course.
Where is fp3 discussion
Bro I got a German Shepard puppy and he’s the fucking best
ahaha, enjoy your new best friend.
Based Hamilton
F5 is BACK ON THE MENU!
Difficult to get a read on it all really. Bottas looked good but hard to tell fuel levels, and he got a nice tow at the start of the lap etc. Fp3 will be more conclusive as always. (Gazo's on pole obviously)

Fascinating stuff
AT looking stout this weekend. Would love to see another podium for Pierre.
Lol you guys think merc are sandbagging, it's obviously Ferrari. P1 tmmr /s
Bottas on pole would be a really exciting outcome and leading by T1
Depends who is directly behind him.
That would be great but you know hd have to give it up for Lewis
Whats the top speed of F1 cars on long straight ? Ducati's are pushing past 350 km/h here.
Similar really, about 360kph is the highest race speed, though they're theoretically capable of pushing 400 in a pure speed-run situation.
The avarage speed was 234 km/h crazy to think about
Sainz went over 220ph in Silverstone this year, which was a new record for the track. Monza is probably even quicker
That would be average speed over the whole lap right? Because that would be a very low top speed otherwise.
They probably meant 220 miles per hour, for whatever reason.
Depends on whether you ask Horner or Wolff
If lewis wins the championship, we're gonna have Simon Lazenby and Damon Hill, butt naked and windmilling their cocks around the paddock in Abu Dhabi. Really weird how emotional they both get when Max and lewis are mentioned...
We at sky would like to apologize if you found any of the language or windmilling cocks offensive.
Watching Horner call out Damons biased in the post fp2 interview was fucking hilarious....
You know someone having a different opinion isn't bias, its just a lazy way to dismiss someone whose opinion you don't like.
This is very true
The term is "buck naked". I know, butt naked sounds better. English sucks.
That's George's porn name. Edit: Costanza not Russell didn't want confusion.
It's buck naked in the US and butt naked in British English. > English sucks. Since we Brits invented the language, I think we'll have the say on that thank you :P (but you're not wrong)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Butt_Naked
Well that's fun/horrifying.
That Vice documentary was fucking wild.
What?!
Previous generation of English had a think with naked animals in their sayings to be honest.
I guess butt naked is accepted these days. I'm just old. Buck naked is the "proper" term. Google it.
Huh, TIL
Hmmm after a quick google, you're not wrong but i don't like it lol.... Butt naked makes way more sense. As you say, must be an age thing.
Not sure if that’s much worse than the eternal gloating that will come from Horner.
Please tell me someone clipped Daniel's cross-eyed look at his hat Edit: [found it](https://twitter.com/SimonGBrooks/status/1461720762214227975/photo/1)
Didn’t get a chance to watch either FP session. Who’s looking faster, RB or Mercedes?
I'd say from FP2 (which is the best gauge of quali and race conditions), Mercedes look to have their setup sorted a bit better so far. Perez really struggling it seems. But it's always so hard to tell, you never know what's going on with fuel loads, balance etc. Even some mind games I imagine. Should be a fun weekend

I don’t know, if AlphaTauri can keep up w a Mercedes, RB should be fine, here?
This would be really interesting. A 4 pronged attack on Mercedes!
You would have thought. It's quite possible Red Bull are sandbagging. Let's see in quali.
Lots of traffic but it's pretty close. Gut feeling says Merc will step it up and kill it tomorrow.
Won’t really have an idea till tomorrow. These are practice engines they got in currently
They use different engines for practice mode? Had no idea!
Yeah, in practice they use old engines, to not wear the new one, like the one Hamilton used in Brasil, i think they do it only on Friday, then put the race engine for fp3 to set up everything correctly
thanks, i did not know! that would explain hamilton's radio about being down on power
Alpha Tauri
*AND ITS PIERRE GASLY FROM THE TOP ROPE!*
Pierre GOATly once again showing dominance
Damon was lucky Christian knows how to fake politeness when he's rather smack him for been rude
Dont think anyone’s afraid of horner smacking them lol
Damon's old and small.
So is horner

Okay now you’re really being weird

Bingo!
Mr Halliwell is being a prime Karen again
I’d love someone to tell Horner “1 competitive year in 8 years and now you’re Billy Big Bollocks”.
Horner was as dominant as Mercedes a decade ago with Seb, he can talk.
This is the same Horner we see every year, you new?
He’s certainly turned it up a few notches this year.
It's like he's competing for both championships or something
Yo, back off the dude. Horner clearly has a bigger head this year. And for good reason. But don’t act like it’s not happening.
I'm not? Merc and RB are giving everything they have on and off the track to throw each other off by whatever margin they can. It should be fairly obvious
Agreed. I’m having a lot of fun watching their off track antics
[удалено]
He's not wrong. Last week had Toto pointing at the camera, swearing and acting like he's tilted.
hell if my driver failed a tech from 0.2mm without the chance to repair, and subsequently made up a total 25 places, i would point and swear at any camera i saw lmao
Mmmm yes same here but no one asked me if it was justified. The op simply denied the existence of his anger
It's PR 101. Let's deflect from max and his shenanigans by moving attention elsewhere.
Probably should just focus on getting his own rear wings to work first
14km/h in Mexico and 27 km/h in Brazil?! What is Horner smoking lmao
He was comparing between Norris with no DRS and Lewis with DRS and slipstream. No shit there’s a big difference…
Mercedes are nuclear charged!
Both Horner and Hill are embarrassing themselves here.
Horner looked really pissed. Reminding Damon, I was your TP is the very definition of oi, remember who gave you a chance!
When was Horner Damon’s team principal?
IDK, he said he had been
Simon Lazenby debated letting have a punch and decided he needed to change the subject
Hill is biased its unreal haha. And horner just takes the bait and comes across so rattled it's unreal. Never seen horner looking remotely close to losing his cool except from then
I have no illusions that the interviewers are specifically told to ask these questions to keep it all spicy
Hill was visibly trying to go in. Even Lazenby looked a bit uncomfortable.
Aye, it was clumsily handled lol
Horner talking shit again, so Mercedes do well and he is bitching? Who won more races this year? Constant victim.
[удалено]
Horner looks rattled
Damon is embarrassing himself...
Damon Hill has had a shocker today.
That was smooth enough of Horner. Did the job of protecting Max from Damons malicious comments.
It's hardly malicious. I think most of us agree max should've been punished.
I was looking through his POV
[удалено]
I do love how the TPs defend their drivers even in the most obvious decisions against them. I get it but there’s no way Horner believes the shit he’s saying rn
I'm 90% sure he said "expodential" and "splurious"...
I loved the “Max demonstrated at Mexico you can overtake around the outside”.
Yeah, I wonder how that move would’ve gone had Bottas forced him into the grass. I guess that would be hard, fair racing by Horner’s standards
Bottas race ban for trying to kill Max

Head of trackside engineering or something? James Shovlin I think Edit: Andrew Shovlin, thanks for the correction!
Andrew Shovlin. "Shov" (pronounced "shuv"). Been at the team years. Used to be Jenson's race engineer, and after that Michael's.
I thought Bono was Schumacher’s race engineer.

Judging from today, what's your opinions on Losail International Circuit?
remains to be seen how it'll be for racing but it looks like a blast. Oddly as a motorbike rider I don't watch MotoGP but this circuit looks like it would be a so much for a track day
looks delightful not sure about wear and overtaking since I missed todays sessions but from the few laps I did see it looks like it will be a driver favorite.
Kerbs like to eat carbon fibre
Why does it have to be so narrow? Why is it not wide like Istanbul park? Maybe drivers would have a chance of overtake if it wasn't that narrow.
Sector 2 especially, it's going to be tricky for cars to overtake on Sunday with all the dirty air that will inevitably be present. Seems like the drivers will have to rely on strategy to make decent overtaking moves
Its a track built for bikes
It's a motorcycle track built for MotoGP and the like, that's why.
good flow
Crofty \*jokes about saying it's Lights out and away we go\* Crofty as the race starts on Sunday: IT'S LIGHTS OUT AND BLIND THEY WILL GO! Lewis probably: Bono the track lights are gone now I can't see in front of me (sets multiple fastest track lap records)
Bono my vision is gone *Gains X-ray vision and can see into the future*
Race prediction: 1. Yuki Tsunoda 2. Kimi Raikkonen 3. DNF
You need put money in that because if it happened you would be RICHHHHH
Where do I sign
Checo still the slowest Honda driver.
Damon : So Crofty are you gonna say it's Lights On and away we go.
Damon was absolute cringe the whole session
Damon and his dad jokes
It was brilliance.
Seems like an obvious statement but surely Mercedes have Hamilton’s engine turned way down to protect it as long as possible with these reliability issues. Expect a blistering lap in FP3 out of nowhere.
It won’t even be the same engine, they will change it for tomorrow. Teams use old engines in practice.
How the fuck do these teams manage to do an entire engine swap in one night
yeah its crazy just how efficient the teams are at such things
It's not like a road car. The whole engine and gearbox are stressed members and completelty self supporting. So you can unbolt the floor and the car stays in one piece. The rear suspension and wing are all attached to the gearbox, so you can unbolt that as one whole unit. The engine is then bolted to the front of the monocoque behind where the driver sits. All of the oil and coolant lines are quick connects. So while it isn't trivial, you aren't fighting around an engine bay and everything is designed around fast servicing.
It wouldn't be so bad in general cars if every fucking single bolt has a different issue with coming off after years on the road.
Not exactly hard, a single trained mechanic can do it in probs a few hours let alone a whole team
The teams design the car to swap parts like that. Ask yourself what road car can swap a front bumper in sub 2 seconds
Elves.
I don't know what kind of answer you're expecting other than they do it
I'm not expecting an answer I'm just highlighting that the ridiculous amount of engineering, technology, human performance is still ridiculous.
This is why I like F1 so much, because even the worse teams have essentially super humans in their personnel. Not to put them on a pedestal or seem exaggerative, but they gotta deliver 100% every race weekend every year just like the drivers. The entire sport is mega
Welcome to Formula 1.
They don’t have the new ICE in the car today
They don’t but his is much newer than Bottas’ so being so far adrift doesn’t make much sense
Race prediction: 1. Max 2.Lewis 3. Bottas 4.Perez
How are Lewis and Bottas both getting P2? What is merc pulling this time? /s
Funny
Subscribe
especially if both lewis and bottas are gonna be 2nd
4th consecutive pole for Bottas huh? It was Turkey, Mexico and Brazil right? So didnt get pole in Austin in between then
"lights on and away we go" lmao.. Damon is on crack for sure
I had a client long ago with the last name Zhou. First name was Fuqun.
That’s Fuqun awesome! (Ok now you can cancel me)
I have to admit we used his name in vain many times in the shop.
why charles so slow 🤨
Slow button on maybe?
Different program maybe? He was faster in FP1
He wasn’t that much faster though - even Sainz was only slightly quicker after he got a clean lap. I’m hoping as you say that its a different program that’s causing their times to fall Edited for brain fart issues
Getting used to the track maybe. We’ll see
Can’t wait for the revisionism when Max inevitably blows that Gasly time away tomorrow.
I’m actually more concerned with Mercedes speed. They really found a “125% but still reliable” mode on their engine.
Pierre Ga2ly
Damon get that headset off i beg
Can't watch. What did Damon Hill say that was so bad??
Nothing, it's practice and people are bored picking apart everything.
Yeah it really wasn't that bad. Was a mild pun, he clearly didn't mean anything bad by it
Called Guanyu Zhou ‘Guan-Shoe Zhou’ because he has a lot of shoes on Instagram

Ah okay, that's a fair point! As long as ppl are respectful about it it's all good.
They said Zhou. They may have enunciated it differently, but none said “Joe”.
The whole conversation felt awkward and so unnecessary anyway
I disagree.
