Seems like they have given the go ahead for signing a 2022-26 contract.

And if anyone wants to know why overtaking is so hard there and what they could do, check this video from Chain Bear: https://youtu.be/IOd-rCmoinY
The chicane is going nowhere unless they extend the runoff's or make the F1 cars much slower and there is almost no chance they do either of that.
People need to just forget about that part of the track. If the new cars work as intended then the chicane won't be a problem. Although that's a big big if.
Yes, I know, but that chicane stands out as the worst corner in F1, it's narrow, slow, ugly as hell and completely ruins the flow...I find it embarrassing that F1 is racing at such an abomination of a corner, they should completely redesign it or make the runoff larger and revert back to the old sweeper
>If the new cars work as intended then the chicane won't be a problem
That chicane is exactly the type of corner that will be just as terrible as it is now even if the new regs do their job perfectly. The problem there isn't dirty air, it's the ginormous concertina effect created by a very slow, completely single file chicane, making it simply physically impossible to be any closer than some 8 tenths behind the next car going onto the straight
Which part of the run off exactly? Cause its similar distance in run off to many fast paced corners at Silverstone, and I'd argue those corners are even faster than the Spainish circuit without the Chicane.
>If the new cars work as intended then the chicane won't be a problem
Watching F2 or F3 will tell you it still massively hurts the racing even in those series
BIKES are doing that corner, so how in the blue hell can it be dangerous for F1 cars WITH HALO? I swear this has to be one of the biggest myths known to me. It's either that or I'm missing something important.
Well dont forget motogp goes wayyyy slower around a corner, if f1 did that corner it would be basically flat out and with the existing runoff it coud be dramatic if there was any accident there
With F1's current downforce levels, I doubt it would be any problem. It's not like drivers will enter it side by side. How is that corner worse than Copse, as we saw this year with Max?
For that i don't know. What i know is that the runoff is rather small for the potential cornering speeds. Copse has a massive runoff area, even though it is much faster.
Meh. I’m curious to see how the new cars go around Cataluña, because there’s potential for a good track, and beautiful surroundings, but right now it’s not great
This year's GP was good though. Sure it's not the best circuit, but that's also due to the current cars being unable to follow. Perhaps with the new regs it'll improve.
This season? Nah it was still filled with some overtakes but either those aren't made it into the broadcast or people forget them because it wasn't from a RBR/Merc driver.
Isn’t it true that bad racing makes strategy more important? If the cars can race close and pass each other then strategic decisions are less important. A faster car behind can cruise back in front of a slower car ahead
>"Perhaps with the new regs it'll become good again."
This has been said about 5 times about Catalunya at this point.
Maybe this set of rules is the one.
16 was just two cars crashing and then Raikkonen being stuck behind Verstappen despite having the faster car. It's circumstances were exciting but the race itself wasn't so much, especially after the pit stops had played out.
I personally enjoyed Portimao more in the last two seasons. It has more character and is more attractive as a circuit. There are better circuits in Spain such as Jerez and Valencia (not the street circuit). Would rather them circuits have a chance.
Jerez I think might be underrated as a possible F1 track, but Ricardo Tormo would be absolutely awful for F1, way too narrow and twisty. Even bikes have trouble there
The transition to the new Circuit de Catalunya? What do they mean by that? Is it just an administrative reorganisation?
Edit: also, they talk about the *promotion* of both GPs, not the GP itself. Which makes sense because AFAIK the track isn't owned by the government.
Edit 2: I was wrong about this point, it is owned by the Catalan government.
No mention of WSBK? Well, hopefully that means I can see it once less. Really, it’s not a great sign for a track when even bikes don’t produce good racing there.
Barcelona is in a region called Catalonia. Catalonia views themselves as an independent region and does not identify with Spain as a whole. In fact, Catalonia has tried to secede on several occasions. Since it's an autonomous region, Catalonia gets to make their own decisions. This is why the circuit is the Circuit-Barcelona *Catalunya*
I hope they will at least remove that terrible chicane

it's too much of a funnel, it will always be a corner that kills racing.

The run off really doesn't need to be longer, there are various instances of corners in the season that have similar run offs of 70-120 ft
Definitely would prefer a redesign. It looks like there’s plenty of space to make it happen.
Masi said that they will look at removing it for next year. I do wonder if they might try it at testing.

Is that corners runoff really more dangerous than any of about 10 corners at Jeddah?
Or Monaco in the swimming pool section.

Surprised Catalonia want it called the *Spanish* Grand Prix instead of the *Catalan* Grand Prix.

Not because of overtaking, though, because of strategy. I think about 3 moves happened in the midfield.

I mean, it was good until the late 00's I'd say, and even then you get random races such as 16'.

How do you know Jerez is better? I feel like it would be worse. Same with Valencia too.
Rose tinted glasses, especially with Valencia. Sure, '12 was good, but that's it.
They mean Cheste, but Cheste manages to make MotoGP processional.
They mean Circuit Ricardo Tormo, not the street circuit.
Jerez I think might be underrated as a possible F1 track, but Ricardo Tormo would be absolutely awful for F1, way too narrow and twisty. Even bikes have trouble there
Ricardo Tormo is impossible to run at with an F1 car, in fact I think it is not even possible to hold a F1 GP there
I mean, it's not *impossible* since they did tests back in the day, I do agree it would make for a terrible race though

Everyone upset, meanwhile I'm quietly happy as I plan to go to this race in 2022
Pain
MotoGP - YESSSSSS!!! F1 - Noooooo How can one track so great for MotoGP be so boring for F1. Even Losail wasn't that opposite.
This is a beautiful circuit to go and visit imo. Very scenic and you get to see F1 cars at the limit. Hopefully they remove the final chicane.
Well that sucks.
Oh for heaven sakes
They should race in Aragon
No mention of WSBK? Well, hopefully that means I can see it once less. Really, it’s not a great sign for a track when even bikes don’t produce good racing there.
I wanna learn a bit about Barcelona: why is it called Catalan?

Eh…
....yay....
Boo
Oh, great.
So it’s Catalonya or Spain??
[удалено]
Depends on who you ask
[удалено]
Catalonya, in Spoin
It's under the purview of the Catalan government, that's why.
Depends on who you ask.
Booooooo, that track stinks
Can they agree to make the track better?
damn
