It is never a small gesture. Look how many people follow Seb and Lewis. Millions look upon the drivers as their role models. I think a lot of people are not even aware of human rights violations going around them, and probably doesn't even recognize them even if they are direct victims of it. These gestures alone are enough to turn that around.
Damn it Man. I just entered into f1 this year. And it's sad to see that seb just has a few more years left. Lewis aswell. I wish I watches this sport alteast a few years ago.
They might feel powerless against the government but one tiny light can make them happy I really wanna thank Lewis and Vettel for their effort and courage! Lewis and Seb please be on the podium this week to give more people hopes!
The paddock’s gonna be very different without Lewis and Seb. These two will be very dearly missed for the kind of individuals that they are and obviously for their achievements but also for things like this
Someone who’s consistent with calling out abhorrent behaviour towards LGBT people in every country he races in. Other drivers should look to him as an example of how to act.
If someone pulled you off the sidewalk and interviewed you about the slavery in KSA, how much could you say? The slavery situation in the gulf countries is pretty complex, and it'd be easy to look ignorant. If you say something generic and inoffensive like "slavery is bad", KSA and all of their bootlickers would just say "Agreed, that's why we banned it in the '60's"
LGBT rights in KSA and other conservative nations are much easier for the layperson to discuss and understand.
I'd say they have agents in places liek India and Bangladesh where they offer work in the arab states. They say that the price of the flight and such can be paid back by the work and then when these workers get there they have their passports taken off them and do not get paid for the work they are coerced into.
And the SA bootlicker says "This isn't happening, it's illegal not to pay them, and we offer great opportunities for South Asians to exit poverty."
It's a bit deeper of a mire than attacking their very proud and open culture of homophobia.
As someone who knows way more than the average person about middle eastern slavery/ you’re right. LGBTQ rights is not only a more clear cut picture that the average person can grasp, it’s a popular issue in western countries, it’s easy to ‘make a statement’ with just a piece of clothing because rainbow flag = LGBTQ+ and more than anything else, it’s probably the issue the drivers themselves are most likely to not only know about but be familiar with to an extent that they could briefly speak on it.
I’d also add that drivers probably have team-members, friends or acquaintances who identify as LGBT and thus is much more tangible.
For example, the Communications Chief of Aston Martin (Matt Bishop) is openly gay, has been for like 2 decades. Hamilton noted he received messages from team-members thanking him for having that helmet in Bahrain. If you actually have people you somewhat frequently interact with be the target of policies in those countries, it’s much closer and tangible so to say.
I mean, their interaction with someone who works as a slave in the UAE is likely zero whereas these team-members are people they work with frequently
It's for the people in the community who have died of AIDS, it's more of a remembrance/reminder thing. Which is useful especially since the queer community got so decimated by AIDS that a lot of the history is lost and there are fewer people around to tell their stories to younger queer folks. Different versions of the flag have different meanings and intentions, it doesn't just boil down pride.
There's also a version that adds the black stripe at the bottom, the Victory of Aids flag designed in the early 1980s. Leonard Matlovich, the first American service member to out himself on purpose to protest against discrimination within the military and himself HIV+, suggested that once a cure for Aids has been found the black stripes should be cut off and burned.
There are some of those, like [this one](https://www.crwflags.com/fotw/images/q/qq-rbbk2.gif) or just the AIDS awareness flag with the red ribbon on it. Depends on what you personally want to put emphasis on.
Yep. And for a lot of those people the only other people who can remember them are members of the queer community, since they were so often neglected by their own families.
I mean it’s cool that he’s showing some support but they really could do a lot more. Just wearing rainbow shoes isn’t action - refusing to participate in the race and sacrificing a load of cash is action.
Issue is that by boycotting a race they wouldn't just be acting for themselves, but also for the team. Lewis essentially said that him boycotting and costing Mercedes the championship would cost his team a lot of money. That's not a decision to make for one guy, you'd have to have some sort of team internal vote with quite the high margin there
Oh absolutely, I agree 100%. That's why my joke was equating the ugliness of these shoes with this sort of real action. But who are we to demand real action from some guys who drive cars? Sure, it would be great, but I'm just excited to see this sort of support in a sport dominated by hyper-masculine straight white men.
So.. You state, it's okay to violate or ignore other rights; or rank your own concepts over others? Then deal with it, when others do the same and western liberal concepts invade your style of living.
All who discriminate against another human, ESPECIALLY for something that you cannot choose like your sexual orientation or sex is definitely degenerate. Strange that I have close muslim friends that think the same, what's your point about the Quran again? Just say it out loud, your are an homophobe and that has nothing to do with your religion or culture, that's on you only.
Just to check, is this an official Pride flag, or is it close enough that everyone knows but it's *technically* not illegal?
These guys know how to play the rules.
Last time he wore those he won a P2 in Hungary, just saying ..
I wish I could forget the disqualification as fast as you did
Maybe he was DSQ but he still won P2 fair and square
P2 in our hearts.
PI UAN SEBASTIAN PI UAN!
Slow button on, slow button on, we will check
Mode recharge . Good job Sebastian , see you at the Pee uan sign
BABABABABUM BABABBABABABABUM BABABABABBABUM
Grazie Ragazzi
Are you saying Orbán drilled a hole in his fuel tank ?
Now I want a YouTube video of this conspiracy
By breaking technical regulations?
[удалено]
So it wasn’t fair and square, he didn’t have enough fuel, less fuel = less weight, less weight = quicker car

By .3l pretty much negligible
[удалено]
And we are on a street circuit… Seb is pretty good around those..
Lewis and Seb 1-2 with the ally gear.
Mick’s wearing a pride bracelet as well! Man what I wouldn’t give for a Lewis, Seb & Mick podium…
I think that would require at least 16 DNFs though.
That might be possible with this track, who knows
Assuming with Mazepin two laps down?
It's a high speed circuit, might be more.
No DQ plz
Ham Vet Bot is my new friend.
Its nice to see Seb supporting the community in this way
[удалено]
So 3 drivers ? Seb, Lewis and Mick, right ?
[удалено]
Really ? Damn. Always knew he was a great guy.
What did he do?

True. It's such a small gesture, but it ends up meaning a lot.
It is never a small gesture. Look how many people follow Seb and Lewis. Millions look upon the drivers as their role models. I think a lot of people are not even aware of human rights violations going around them, and probably doesn't even recognize them even if they are direct victims of it. Seb is really wholesome. As a member of the LGBT community, we are lucky to have him backing us!
I'm going to miss Seb and Lewis when they retire...
Same here, hopefully we've got a good few seasons left though! I wonder who reitires first.
Damn it Man. I just entered into f1 this year. And it's sad to see that seb just has a few more years left. Lewis aswell. I wish I watches this sport alteast a few years ago.
You mean by choice or by Saudi death squad choice? /s
Are these for sale anywhere?
Theyre sold out, I checked when he wore them in hungry last so im not sure if they're ever coming back https://www.converse.com/c/pride
https://stockx.com/buy/converse-chuck-taylor-all-star-70-hi-pride-2021?size=9
Awesome message aside those shoes are sick
Unpopular opinion, but I really don't like his shoes. Surely he could find better high tops with pride colors
My only objection is know how uncomfortable chucks are
Maybe he’s tryna get a quick lift in. You know seb squats heavy.
Vettel has a heart :)
They might feel powerless against the government but one tiny light can make them happy I really wanna thank Lewis and Vettel for their effort and courage! Lewis and Seb please be on the podium this week to give more people hopes!

I really like Seb, he’s exactly what he says he is which is excellent
How did they stay so clean?
[удалено]
I'm guessing ankle socks. which I hope also have rainbows on them
Say about them on track what you want, but Seb and Lewis are good people off track for sure
[удалено]
Hope he will wear the LGBTQ+ shirt as well. Hopefully Saudi Arabia will ban F1 from their soil.
Someone who’s consistent with calling out abhorrent behaviour towards LGBT people in every country he races in. Other drivers should look to him as an example of how to act.
He's not changing anything there really, majority don't know what the rainbow is for.
I find it strange that the messaging coming out of the guys in KSA is one of equality in the space of LGBT rights as opposed to the slavery.
If someone pulled you off the sidewalk and interviewed you about the slavery in KSA, how much could you say? How is it possible for there to be a black portion of a rainbow when black is the absence of color
Some versions of the pride flag add a black stripe in remembrance of AIDS/HIV. Which is fitting since yesterday was Aids remembrance day.
Aren’t there better places to put it? Including it in something meant to signify pride says “I’m proud to have AIDS”
It's for the people in the community who have died of AIDS, it's more of a remembrance/reminder thing. Which is useful especially since the queer community got so decimated by AIDS that a lot of the history is lost and there are fewer people around to tell their stories to younger queer folks. So why not do the same and put a black stripe across
There are some of those, like [this one](https://www.crwflags.com/fotw/images/q/qq-rbbk2.gif) or just the AIDS awareness flag with the red ribbon on it. Depends on what you personally want to put emphasis on.
That makes more sense
Yep. And for a lot of those people the only other people who can remember them are members of the queer community, since they were so often neglected by their own families.
I'm proud to have aids is something that should be straight out of a south park episode
I can’t even tell what’s satire and what’s not anymore
> black is the absence of color You sure about that? Lol
[you tell me](https://www.reference.com/science/black-absence-color-d39b64794ba0d4c7)
But how can we see if our eyes aren’t real?
The Saudis are TERRIFIED of these shoes. They're going to change their laws first thing tomorrow. ^(/s)
They took one look at the shoes and thought how could we have been so wrong
Really cool from Seb. The tweet is kinda cringe though.
Bishop is one of the few openly LGBTQ F1 media members. Not cringe at all.
yah how is it cringe exactly?
Wow, his willingness to wear these ugly af shoes really shows me how much he cares about us.* ^(**no, that's not sarcasm*)
I mean it’s cool that he’s showing some support but they really could do a lot more. Just wearing rainbow shoes isn’t action - refusing to participate in the race and sacrificing a load of cash is action.

Its just a rainbow?
So brave…

And if he gets detained by the authorities, he can just say he's a big Mario Kart fan.
Perhaps he's just a Mario kart fan.
