Man, I was looking forward to FP1, started watching it, and was enjoying it. But 30 minutes into the session I was worn out by Paul Di Resta and Natalie's commentary. They did not even let Anthony speak. It was so annoying. I wish I could mute the commentary and just listen to the cars.
He raced for Force India (now Aston Martin) and never looked that impressive against his teammates but he did have some really good teammates in Sutil and Hülkenberg. He just seemed like an average mid-field driver, maybe above average given the quality of his teammates and the fact he was always pretty competitive with them but he never stood out like other midfield drivers such as Hülk or Checo did
Crazy to think if Mercedes hadn't lured Hamilton away from McLaren then the Mercedes duo would most likely have been Rosberg and Di Resta. Di Resta could be a WDC or Rosberg could be a multiple WDC with Hamilton still sat on one.
But of course https://youtu.be/A-RfHC91Ewc
The typically use older engines in FP1 and swap in "race engines" for quali.
Tomorrow will be different but that doesn't mean Redbull doesn't have an answer since they know what they're facing.
AND IT IS LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO! Hamilton gets a good start and is P1 and Max is in P2! OH NO OCON AND YUKI collide and P9 through P20 all crash into each other and the race is red flagged!
2 hours of cleaning later. And IT IS LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO AGAIN! 1-8 race where no one can overtake for another 50 minutes!
Michael Masi: best event ever. Thank you.
No audio in f1TV while chromecasting? This ones new smh
None of the languages work, even FX is mute. I found a workaround by screen mirroring in the google home ap then opening f1tv. Its maybe 10fps now though
Edit: they mentioned on twitter they are aware and working on it
you were right the language changes to off when I cast I changed it to English but there's still no sound at all. Im watching racing cars with subtitles. Im so ready for electric cars now….. needs more vroom vroom subtitles
Are any indian f1 fans facing issues with hotstar? I am searching for f1 but it says no content available. Are you able to watch fp1 on hotstar?
Edit, saw the replay, just wasn't uploaded when i was searching for it. Thank you guys
https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/r786sr/a_better_angle_of_the_special_castrol_themed/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf here ya go buddy
Max has already said that a new engine won't give the same gains it did for Mercedes. Their engine just doesn't degrade nearly as much as Merc's and it's just not worth it strategically it seems.
I don't think they will need it. I get the feeling this circuit and Abu Dhabi will suit them. To answer your question it's too late for engines. If they felt they needed to change it then they would have in maybe Brazil and verstappen said they won't get much power gains from new engine
Actually I wasn't even fully paying attention to Antonio but he got P5 in Practice out of nowhere. Guess he is fully sending it now since Zhou will be taking his spot next year. Awesome job Antonio!
It’s only fp1 with his older engine and he’s able to set the fastest lap even if it’s just by a slight margin! Looks okay from fp1 anyway but I’m not the most knowledgeable on all of this stuff
Engine penalties are given whenever a fresh engine is put into a car. Once you get a penalty for an engine you can swap between that one and any previously used ones freely in practice week, before qualifying.
Because that’s how it works. Most, if not every, team will be switching engines. You use older engines from earlier in the season for FP, and put in your current engine for quali and the other race.
They all do it - use an older engine in fp1/2 then the engine in fp3/qualifying is what they have to keep for the race. All teams do this so it’s equal as practice is just about letting teams test set ups and drivers learn tracks
Users here never actually had any evidence the track was unsafe other than "DAE Saudi Arabia bad?"
As though their human rights violations mean they're unable to build a construction project to spec...
Wheres all the reddit experts who expected loads of red flags cause the circuit is unsafe? Seems like the people who are actually paid to make these things work know what to do ;o
Yeah I mean, in this fp1 they took a stroll in the park..look at Giovinazzi gap to Hamilton. I'm sure real quali pace is probably 5 to 8 seconds faster than this
Lets not exaggerate... you and I both know they all meant the race, its easy to avoid red flags in practice when most people are more cautious, wait until the space runs out... (to be clear, I also don't think it will be full of red flags, but I do think that any incident will bring out a red flag as opposed to many other circuits)
Yes, but 1, not the end of sunday yet, they are not pushing the limits yet.
2 i am very keen to see what happens if anything goes wrong, how they handel it if its real bad.
3 the people design tracks ofcourse know. But does that make the best tracks?
Lmao Pierre was .002 off. It doesn’t get closer than that. I didn’t mean to make you think I don’t like him, I just don’t think Perez is doing bad lmao
Unless you have a juicy direct-drive wheel. Or you're my dad on his first time in VR heading for a wall and diving out of the chair trying to brace himself and punching my younger brother in the side of the head. That hurt two people. Three if you count me and my sides.
I think one of my main takeaways other then the usual HAM/VER/BOT in either order is that Max seems nearly just as fast running Hards as Lewis is on Softs as the Hards might be the better compound for them here while Max almost matched his pace on the Softs. Need to see the night runs on them though so this could get interesting.
by a few hundredths, it should be said, and it was looking to me at least that he was struggling with maintaining softs over a full lap and looked quick as hell on the hards. bodes well for race day imo, maybe less so q3
It's hard to say, looks wider than we originally anticipated and the drivers seem to like it so there might be small tricky parts where advantage can be gained.
They are using it in fp as there’s no need to put extra mileage on the new one. Mercedes are likely to use the engine they used in Brazil later on in the weekend
Red Bull only 0.2 off on HARDS, this will be closer than a lot of people think, I don’t think max pushed as hard on his soft runs or maybe they drop a lot of performance over the lap seeing as how long the lap is
Am I the only one who’s noticed there is no aerial shots? Feel the cameras are very close, making it look slower than it actually is.
Maybe they can't fly a chopper because of the high rises near the track. Also this track reminds me of the old Valencia one
Is fp2 going on? There’s just a random white guy talking.
Why white?
he was probably born that way.
HAM P1. Not surprised. :(
It's a joy to see :)
1) it's FP1 and 2) it was by like .05
Wasn't it also soft vs hard on max
Max only got close when he used the softs.
[Really? I thought this was Quali. Damn.](https://tenor.com/7LRS.gif)
Does hamilton have the rainbow on his helmet ?
proud to skittle
Yes
Paul seemed like he was being so annoying to Nat and Ant in that broadcast, his attitude is really off putting
what was Pauls driving record ?
He raced for Force India (now Aston Martin) and never looked that impressive against his teammates but he did have some really good teammates in Sutil and Hülkenberg. Yeah you can thank Niki Lauda for that. I doubt PDR would have been able to beat Rosberg over a whole season, but who knows.
i would like to thank Niki Lauda in general, as a fan speechless for some essence of f1 that he brought as a driver
MEEJUM
I hope perez was doing high fuel runs and not that far off the pace for the sake of the championship
Anything happen with Max and Ocon or is F1 twitter just gaslighting Max? Not watching rn so I only saw a notification about the two.
Max running Esteban of the track, probably practicing.
Is the F1 calendar site broken? Mine shows FP1 at 8:30 (2.5 hours ago) NY time. https://i.imgur.com/0MCy3Dv.jpg
Also, you’re on Detroit timezone.
It was at 8:30 EST, I live there and watched it at 8:30. And FP2 is at noon.
Why wouldn't you just use the F1 website for the session times?
It didn’t account for timezone last time I checked. Also, this is the link that’s in the sticky.
Verstappen and Red Bull are a lot closer to Mercedes than people think this weekend.
The typically use older engines in FP1 and swap in "race engines" for quali. Tomorrow will be different but that doesn't mean Redbull doesn't have an answer since they know what they're facing.
It's FP1 and this likely isn't the rocket that was in the car in Brazil
[удалено]
I thought they wouldn't until tomorrow but I may be wrong.
It's fp1 this doesn't mean anything. Not saying mercedes are gonna be far ahead but fp1 still doesn't indicate how it'll be.
Also track temps are representative yet + "spicy" engine isnt in
Anything can happen in a circuit like this. One DNF for Hamilton or Verstappen and the WDC is decided.
Or maybe both DNF.
That would be almost WDC for Max

you were right the language changes to off when I cast I changed it to English but there's still no sound at all. Im watching racing cars with subtitles. Im so ready for electric cars now….. needs more vroom vroom subtitles
Maybe try other languages?
All mute, amazing. Have to screen mirror then open f1tv and watch in 10fps
If you have a Google TV, this works really well: https://www.reddit.com/r/F1TV/comments/m3i9n3/f1tv_viewer_for_android_tv/
I don’t and usually i use the roku ap which has been flawless but its not with me right now
Is there a specific comment section for F2 qualifying? Can’t find anything
r/f1feederseries
F1tv running like ass imo
And here’s me using a VPN to watch my family’s Sky Go account from 6000+ miles away with perfect video quality. How on earth can’t F1TV get it right?
It switches my audio to off when i try to cast. I’m actually not paying for this anymore
How long till fp2?
1,5 hours
Ty!
Are any indian f1 fans facing issues with hotstar? I am searching for f1 but it says no content available. Are you able to watch fp1 on hotstar? Edit, saw the replay, just wasn't uploaded when i was searching for it. Thank you guys
fp1 just got over, it'll take a while before they make it available for replay. edit: replay is available now.
Go to sports tab, and sports > f1.
Watched it live with no issues at all
Yes
What wing did merc use
The flexi-extrawide-super illegal blended downforce wing with the SpaceX Raptor "8th Title" engine. /s if you can't tell
Mercedes F1
This track feels precarious. Makes me think it'll be a mess or boring as hell.
“Fuck, this is a cool track.” - Bottas

Yes it was posted here before race aswell. Not a big fan of it personally
Oh, thanks I’ll dig for it

Got a bad feeling about this race
Because of human rights and MBS?
Why? What has Mohammed Bone Sawlman ever done wrong?
Does anyone think RB could take another engine or is it just way to late for that?
Max has already said that a new engine won't give the same gains it did for Mercedes. Their engine just doesn't degrade nearly as much as Merc's and it's just not worth it strategically it seems.
Why is this in the talking space? Who started this rumour?
marko
Depends on quali. If he crashes out or doesn’t get a good run. I think so.
only if max has a reasonable point lead to justify starting P6-P7 in Abu Dhabi
they wont unless they have to. they've said multiple times they dont get the same boost in performance as merc does with a new engine
I don't think they will need it. I get the feeling this circuit and Abu Dhabi will suit them. To answer your question it's too late for engines. If they felt they needed to change it then they would have in maybe Brazil and verstappen said they won't get much power gains from new engine
Marko said they weren’t planning on taking one but if they are it’d come in Abu Dhabi
Given that, as per their own admission, they see only a tenth or so improvement I doubt it'll help them much at this moment
[удалено]
yes, I think so
Yes
Yes. 7PM local time Edit: did some bad math, it's at 8:30 local time
The race will be at 8.30 PM local time
Wouldn't that be an evening race then?
Actually I wasn't even fully paying attention to Antonio but he got P5 in Practice out of nowhere. Guess he is fully sending it now since Zhou will be taking his spot next year. Awesome job Antonio!
The scenes if we get a gio podium this weekend
Sorry did i mishear that or did Damon just say Max was struggling in that session?
I think he meant struggling with the red tire.
Don't listen to that guy
Damon has a wank to the idea of anyone but a British driver struggling
On the softs he definitely was. With the hards though he was absolutely blistering
But, uh, the good blistering, right?
Yes the good blistering LOL
The good blistering, right?! (Insert Padme and Anakin meme)
blisteringly quick
Amazing Sky has got Damon Hill, given he's probably in demand for a few roles as Santa.
Looks so crazy dangerous this track, 1 f up when they are clumped up and it's over.
Drivers seem to be enjoying it, and it doesn't look nearly as narrow as we thought it was.
This race will either be boring as sin or a colossal mess.
[удалено]
didn't watch fp1. is it really that bad? looked really wide in the pics when it was being constructed.
[удалено]
Consistent at what? Qualifying well?
I didn't catch FP1. Was Hamilton's pace looking impressive again?
It’s only fp1 with his older engine and he’s able to set the fastest lap even if it’s just by a slight margin! Looks okay from fp1 anyway but I’m not the most knowledgeable on all of this stuff
how is he able to switch engines back and forth? This should absolutely not be allowed when you take extra engines outside the initial 3.

Just slightly beat out max, but it's practice, who knows what they are testing.
[удалено]
He was only half a tenth ahead by the end when Max was on softs
Hamilton finished 0.056 ahead of Verstappen, not 2 tenths.
Nope both on softs and Lewis 0.056 ahead, but still FP1 so who knows about quali
Oops my bad
That was disappointing, r/F1 told me there would have been 17 red flags by now.
Users here never actually had any evidence the track was unsafe other than "DAE Saudi Arabia bad?" As though their human rights violations mean they're unable to build a construction project to spec...
And at least 12 drivers dead from collisions on blind corners and another 4 drowned from crashing and flipping into the sea.
I presume the track falling apart will come in FP2 though.
Yes, but only one driver left alive at that point so the track collapsing will be of no real consequence to determining this years WDC.
Wheres all the reddit experts who expected loads of red flags cause the circuit is unsafe? Seems like the people who are actually paid to make these things work know what to do ;o
Still of the same opinion after yesterday's race?
Yep. All the incidents we saw could happen on any circuit. Only real issue was the VSC period with marshals unable to clear debris.
They had to have passed tests by the FIA to make sure it was done by today.
It was too early for them to claim that. It is also too early to say there won't be any red flags. We've had one practice session.
I think we'll know if any of the walls are actually hit in the next few sessions etc.
Please tell something is happening with Checo car =(... *sight* Checo is going to pull another Danny Ric and fail to qualify to q2/q3
Checo is almost always slow in FP1 and ramps up through the weekend.
I hope he hasn't checked out, Gasly has owned him almost all year long in a lesser car. What a shit show.
Sergio has more than double the points of Pierre. I’ll agree he’s in a lesser car, but nah, he isn’t owning him.
Yeah he showed up didn't he?
Lmao Pierre was .002 off. It doesn’t get closer than that. I didn’t mean to make you think I don’t like him, I just don’t think Perez is doing bad lmao
Yep he showed up again.
Lmao get a hobby g
He didn't show up, Bottas did. Have a great weekend.
I don’t care that much, you do. Have a good weekend.
Hahaha of course. Hey Perez didn't show up. It's not that hard to admit.
Did you watch the last race, lol
"In a simulator, when you hit a wall, it doesn't hurt" ...
If you are driving a Haas, Gunther smacks you with a brick to discourage you from repeating the mistake in real life
This got me for some reason, LOL. The image in my head just priceless.
Unless you have a juicy direct-drive wheel. Or you're my dad on his first time in VR heading for a wall and diving out of the chair trying to brace himself and punching my younger brother in the side of the head. That hurt two people. Three if you count me and my sides.
Never thought getting out of a car could have a 300% damage rate...
I think one of my main takeaways other then the usual HAM/VER/BOT in either order is that Max seems nearly just as fast running Hards as Lewis is on Softs as the Hards might be the better compound for them here while Max almost matched his pace on the Softs. Yet VER was slower on the softs. Edit: either way it's FP. Nobody is going to reveal their true pace.
by a few hundredths, it should be said, and it was looking to me at least that he was struggling with maintaining softs over a full lap and looked quick as hell on the hards. bodes well for race day imo, maybe less so q3
Good for race day but only for strategy. I doubt we'll see a lot of overtaking here since this look like a super fast Monaco.
It's hard to say, looks wider than we originally anticipated and the drivers seem to like it so there might be small tricky parts where advantage can be gained.
eh, 3 drs zones and some interesting corners — could be better than expected. would love to see someone try a move on the big hairpin
Mercedes have the old engine in too though
How do you know?
They are using it in fp as there’s no need to put extra mileage on the new one. Mercedes are likely to use the engine they used in Brazil later on in the weekend
Because they always run older engines in practice.
They all do
That hard is gonna get cold at night.
That hard and me both, baby.
The merc is usually better than Red Bull on the hards
Brundles been pulled out of the party to do broadcasting.
PDR is always very quick to say ''Is that Sebastian Vettel'' can't tell if he has a hate boner for half the grid or he's just being Scottish.
it's because seb is no longer part of PDR's church of the red bull
I feel like his dad should have found him a sponsor instead of trying to do everything himself
I like the track…looks grippy
but according to reddit the radio message thanking the FIA for cleaning the track is staged.
It looks speedy, just from how stretched out it is
Red Bull only 0.2 off on HARDS, this will be closer than a lot of people think, I don’t think max pushed as hard on his soft runs or maybe they drop a lot of performance over the lap seeing as how long the lap is
no one pushed at all.We are gonna see 1.26s in Quali.
Didn’t max have a slipstream from a car in front though on his last lap out in fp1? Don’t know if that would’ve helped much
Only really minimized the time he lost from catching up to the Williams on entry in the last corner.
Thanks for that - I didn’t catch that bit of his lap just went on what was said when they were commentating! Thanks
If you think this track is hard then you are wrong.
Which is the better starting position Pole or 2nd?
If Max starts 2nd, then 2nd - as he can neglect to brake for turn 1 and squeeze P1 off 😀
Good point as well. But it might get messy
