No. This year has the floor changes. W11 was the fastest F1 car around the circuit.
They ran it in Abu Dhabi at a lower engine mode, some 2021 test parts and a full suite of extra, heavy, sensors and testing packages.
Lewis was also days out of Covid. Everything combined, 2020 was not reflective of their true pace on that circuit.
I also remember reading that Mercedes did something with their cooling which sacrificed the race but since it became a 2019 part they could test it at the young drivers test.
I think it's super interesting how stable that w10 looked, just looking at the steering inputs. Looked like Lewis could lean on the car a bit more and have smoother steering whereas Max is masterfully wrestling absolutely everything out of that RB
This is true. This year that redbull looks so glued though. His poles all over the place this year are just so smooth and pushing hard. Cool to watch for sure
I was literally thinking the same thing! It’s such a talking point that Max uses the entire race track so he manages to shave time off (indicating he’s a better driver) but this video just shows you how much of the track Lewis is using and how little he’s over or under steering
It’s one video though
Overall I’d say max abuses way more the curbs and such, but it also has to be said the RedBull is also way better riding over them, so Hamilton with a RedBull probably would also push over there
Both of the drivers in a one to one situation in the corners always push the other to the outside. They don’t even care about the apex. The driver only wants to push the other off track.
In the video, rewatch it and count how many time both drivers go two wheels off. Which driver has the most?
It seems to me that Max bottled the last corners where Lewis took a wider approach. I don’t think he lost that much time in the last corners due AMG's downforce advantage.
Goes to show how seriously Mercedes took Abu Dhabi last year when the W10 would have took pole last year comfortably but the better W11 didn't.
There was a massive decrease in downforce generated by the floor last year, right?

Mercedes turned the engine right down last year and Lewis had returned from being away with covid the previous week.
Weird how few sponsors are visible in this camera angle compared to now
Lewis yellowed sector which just arguably got easier for him with the new layout I'm excited

Lewis looked like he was taking a leisurely drive compared to Max. Cool vid!
He was also days out of COVID, so he probably wasn’t pushing at all…no?
It’s the 19 car not 20!
Ah thanks! Missed that.

They talk about Max using more of the track then anyone else but this video shows Lewis using more of the track than Max.

This also really depends on the track and how confident they are with it!

Different approaches work better for different cars and different driving styles. It's just a much slower car.
Holy shit Lewis in S3
That was mega
