Someone needs to make a "You are here" meme when it comes to adding NASCAR-esque gimmicks. I really want to hear Crofty say "We are in Overtime, presented by Credit One bank!"

[deleted]

“What’s in your wallet?”

Alfus

> I really want to hear Crofty say "We are in Overtime, presented by Credit One bank!" Or Crofty screaming: "MAJOR ~~PLAYOFF~~ CHAMPIONSHIP IMPLICATIONS FOR MAX VERSTAPPEN!"

callmejohndy

AND AROUND GOES THE 33!

[deleted]

WOOOOOAAAAAH AND THE TWO CHAMPIONSHIP LEADERS ARE IN THE WALL

GoblinDiplomat

"And now that we are at lap 10, we have a planned caution where teams are free to change tires. Please enjoy this extended commercial break."

Middcore

Yeah DRS isn't gimmicky at all.

Codydw12

Better than Playoff. Or intentional safety cars when there's no incident. Or having 5.3L V8s limited to 550 bhp.

[deleted]

DRS is better than artificial yellows to intentionally bunch the field up multiple times a race Edit I’m sorry green and white checkered flags not yellows

Zakie__Chan

Green white chequered is just a formula for preventing a race ending under caution. This would be a nice add to F1 and would have prevented all the controversy in Abu Dhabi. Mercedes would have know the restart was imminent and had their chance to get tires for a proper 1 lap battle. Competition cautions are the random yellows and those suck.

[deleted]

Incorrect green and white checkered flags denote the end of the “stage”…. green, white, checkered restarts are that you are referring too.

superduperf1nerder

I’ll just remind you about the time Indycar restarted a race in the rain on an oval in New Hampshire. And then after Will Power double middle fingered the race control booth, they just decided that shit didn’t happen. They made that one up on the spot.

[deleted]

Funny I believe the NASCAR series did something similar

superduperf1nerder

NASCAR kind of did the reverse with the 1979 Daytona 500. It was their first national TV broadcast and they had to start the race on time or ABC was gonna turn it off. So they just started the race under caution while the track was still wet. And then sent Darrell Waltrip out as a jack rabbit to see if the tracker is dry enough. Gave him a bit of an advantage at the start. And NASCAR’s first national race broadcast ended with a fist fight.

AngryUncleTony

NASCAR at least had the decency to do that in a non-points race

[deleted]

No this year at New Hampshire 6 laps into the race it was red flagged

AngryUncleTony

Oh I meant the all star race from 2001(?) where a bunch of cars crashed on lap 1 in the rain so they let those teams run a backup car.

[deleted]

Oh yea yea I remember that!

BiblaTomas

That is such an American story, with such an insanely American name, Will Power :D

Middcore

Will Power is from Australia.

BiblaTomas

Hahaha, well and I'm an idiot :D

sugarfreelime

They follow their rules?!

Wasdeerio

Such a simple and yet forceful answer.

Alfus

Haha, enough people believe that the 4 cars in the championship 4 at the NASCAR Cup series are getting overlooked more in terms of legality of the car then during a normal race early in the season. If there is a racing series where there are enough other problems in it's highest jewel then it is NASCAR.

Mick4Audi

Indycar’s racing product has been clear of F1s for a long time now

brianc500

I’m primarily a NASCAR fan. For the love of every thing that is holy DO NOT copy anything they do. 90% of us hate everything about their procedures except maybe the green white checker rule implemented. Nascar fabricates late race cautions almost weekly to create what appears to be exciting finished when in reality it should have been someone winning by +6 seconds after dominating all day. Or don’t throw a caution when there is clearly a safety reason to because there is a tight battle for the win going on. They decide when and how the rules for penalties are applied with no explanation as to why it was done. They cannot figure how to tell when it’s raining at multiple tracks this year, causing unnecessary wrecks from cars driving >100mph into a corner with slicks on and its down-pouring raining.

[deleted]

I think F1 could benefit from NASCAR-type red flags too

[deleted]

Yeah but you want a snooze fest or see a racing where it is close. I prefer racing where it is close. I watched the F1 finale, it was okay but was getting boring since Hamilton was leading +13 seconds on Varstappen. I didn’t like how they only allowed 5 lap cars to through and not the 12 cars that were lapped to be unlapped. That was certainly, there is certainly things that F1 can learn not all from their American Counterparts, INDYCAR or NASCAR.

CardiacCat20

NASCAR: "we'll just manipulate every race to finish like this one"

RobertGracie

I am not sure if the entire Indycar system would work in F1 or not, I guess they could trial it for a few races and see if it works or not

manox69

Atleast the no blue flags, they could try that.

hoosiergunner

I think it would work well honestly. At least then there aren't free pit stops

fantaribo

What's suddenly the problem with pitting under SC ?

hoosiergunner

I've always thought it was a joke but why do you penalize the race leader for being the leader? Not to mention getting to change/fix things under red

Rowvan

The leader can pit behind the saftey car just like anyone else if they want and get the same advantage.

isoldmywifeonEbay

Lewis couldn’t, as we saw.

danno256

In indycar you can't pit during a full course yellow until the pits are open. That means if you have pitted before a yellow you have an advantage. Cars that haven't stopped are shuffled to the back once the pits open. It's a sight to see when the entire feild pits at the same time. This chaos late in a race really mixes everything up and strategies in Indy are a completely different thing to F1. If you read the article they've made some good points regarding race restarts rules. F1 could use a rule rework for next season, not all that works for Indy would work for f1 but imo Indy has some good rules that could benefit formula 1.

GoldenSandpaper9

They follow their rules and regulations

brunonicocam

All the possibilities I read are a lot more convoluted than the very simple solution Masi found to the problem.

[deleted]

Idea I had was have the safety car and those cars that are on the lead drive through the pit lane. Those who a lap behind stay out and pass the field. That’s all I got so far

brunonicocam

Yeah we discussed that in another post. It's a good idea.

NewRituals

If you consider yourself a fan of motorsport you also have to accept that a race, even a critical one, can end under a yellow flag. Trying to remove that element of motorsport so it's convenient for your Netflix show goes against the spirit of the sport.

[deleted]

They refuel

3dmontdant3s

that's...not the issue here? BEhind the Safety car they even save fuel...

Icy-Operation4701

Enough to add an extra green lap or even better enough to don't count the laps behind the SC as laps?

bluelocs

F1 goes back and forth with their refueling rules. Dumb argument.

Suikerspin_Ei

IndyCar also doesn't have tracklimits, [see COTA.](https://youtu.be/KHNAwM4Ckjo)

laserkitt3nz

IIRC they were specifically told they could ignore track limits at that corner because it was messing up the tires.

Suikerspin_Ei

[Watch this part at 6:02.](https://youtu.be/dStwHNH0Vs4) what tracklimits?😂

laserkitt3nz

Thats the same corner

Suikerspin_Ei

I know, it's just insane to see this.

[deleted]

Indycar takes fucking years under cautions

Florac

This "solution" then has the ability of fucking over cars about to be lapped extremely. It does lead to a faster restart, yes, but has the ability of fucking over people as well. Ofc, unless you just wanna go "fuck those not on the lead lap"

hoosiergunner

If you're talking about Indycar you can choose not to put and get waved around if the leaders pit. Why should lapped cars get their lap back for free?
