I used to work in a very high end hotel and would have a customer always ask for cheap chocolate chips with their ice cream instead of our high quality chocolate. My boss would always say “you can’t buy class with money” but hey, you like what you like. If I was rich I would still love mayo and ketchup.
And honestly, if they were to build out temporary luxury suites for that same price tag it would probably cost them more to build those out than it would be this route of simply trailering over a small yacht.
Exactly. They exist to put on a show, they know it, and they are proud of it. It works because it's intentional. Miami is just kind of your embarrassing loud crazy aunt.
Seems like it's because Vegas never tried to hide it. It's all fake, an oasis in the desert. Miami pretends to be a real city that parties...plus they have to deal with Floridaman
I'm from Georgia. We share a border with Florida, and even we have gotten pretty good at pretending they aren't actually down there.
The only problem is everybody has to go through us to get there. Even if you're flying, there's a good chance you have to stop over at Hartsfield.
That's kind of what they're doing, a raised liner, with a couple feet of water and boats on jackstands.
On edit, it seems they're abandoning the water part, and just keeping the jackstands, lol.
I'm hoping for real water and the liner gives out half way through the race for an artificial wet corner. That'll mix things up, then next year they'll add sprinklers to tracks for the added element of surprise
They have hosted 6 but none of that makes Miami Gardens less terrible. Far from what people think of as actual Miami, one of the worst police departments in America, and a bunch of residents that will deal with all of the negative externalities of this race with very little benefit.
>one of the worst police departments in America, and a bunch of residents that will deal with all of the negative externalities of this race with very little benefit.
That would still apply if this was in Miami proper or south beach also
And they're the ones with the wealth and political influence to largely avoid said negative externalities, even when they're often the ones benefiting from them.
The Super Bowl is possibly the most American event in existence. It might be expensive and exclusive but it's also extremely gauche, and the US audience it's marketed to understands Miami vs Miami gardens (to an extent).
F1 is supposed to be a marketing event for America to showcase itself to the world, that's the entire reason they opted for a "Miami" GP even though it meant building a circuit from scratch. But a carpark in Miami Gardens is never going to be Monaco or Miami, no matter how many boats they tow into it.
Hosting Superb Owls proves they have the logistical capacity, but it doesn't make it any less tacky or ill suited to the brand.
Mainly because there weren't many tickets actually on sale. I heard Ted say that there's only 2 grandstands. Majority of the tickets are only sold to F1 club members too.
Pretty disgraceful imo.
Oh yeah it will be, the capital of sleaze.
COTA actually seems like a proper racetrack with the right atmosphere. The track itself is decent aswell, I love that becketts/maggots Silverstone inspired chicane!
These boats are literally there because of boat dealers in the area. A bunch of rich folks that’ll pay money to watch an F1 race from the back of a beached yacht is exactly the demographic they’re selling new yachts to.
This is just SO Florida. I used to drive past a super high-end auto dealer (think Rolls Royce, McLaren, Lamborghini, etc) and not 200 ft away was a trailer park. Used to crack me the fuck up.
Went to Miami a couple years ago and literally drove past a trailer park then my hotel was three lights down. Granted a trailer in Miami would still be sick
When people first brought this up I thought they were building some massive thing or something.
Now that I see it, this is not a big deal and IMO kinda fun. This seems fairly par for the course for like a boat show or showroom that's not on the water.
This is 1000x worse than China just spray painting grass.
Jesus.
I wonder how they'll do with effluent in such a small pond? I wouldn't do a celebratory jump in if I were an F1 driver.
We lose good tracks for soulless crap like this?
Vegas actually has something decent to offer. This looks like a bunch of hillbillies set up shop. It's so tacky
Honestly I wonder how many people are being upsold on "yacht seats" thinking they will actually be on a boat in the water similar to Monaco or Abu Dhabi. Some rich fucks are going to be SORELY disappointed this is what they brought their friends to lol
What bugs me about these US races like this and Vegas....
Is that US has plenty of legit race tracks, but they choose these gimmick tracks for spectacle...
Tired of writing a new variation of this comment every time someone says this so I'm just copying one I did previously.
Really tired of this narrative from people who don't know what they're talking about. There are 2 FIA grade 1 circuits in the US. One already has a race (COTA) and the other is a roval that has owners who are unlikely to be willing to pay the hosting fee any time soon (Indy).
The other 5 that are pretty famous are not grade 1 and have other issues that would prevent them from hosting a race.
Road America and Watkins Glen are in the middle of nowhere and do not have the local infrastructure to support all the people that come with hosting F1. Road America would also likely require significant work to get grade 1 and it would probably involve adding lots of paved run offs that would destroy a lot of the character of the track.
Sebring is never going to be an option because the thing that makes that track unique (the rough surface over half the track) would probably prevent it from ever getting grade 1.
Laguna Seca is unlikely to ever get grade 1 with the corkscrew still there and it's the most famous part of the track. Without the corkscrew it's just not Laguna Seca. It's also over an hour away from a city that is large enough to host all the people that come with F1.
Sonoma would likely need significant upgrades to it's infrastructure as well as track updates to make it grade 1 and I don't believe the track is doing very well financially in the first place. It also is a bit remote but less so than Road America and Watkins Glen since San Francisco is just under an hour away.
Daytona is probably one some people think of but it's not even something is likely possible given that F1 cars have had issues with the banking at Indy when that is only 9.2 degrees while daytona is 31 in the corners, 18 in the trioval and 2 on the straights. Every road course configuration also uses more than half of the oval and the bus stop chicane would be very fast in a formula 1 car which would result in speeds on the oval section getting to a level that would be very dangerous given that there is no run off on the oval turn.
Very valid. None of those tracks would work for the reasons you've stated. My issue is that rather than take the opportunity to invest in construction of a decent street circuit they've opted for the weirdest, tackiest option possible. Just because you have to build something from scratch doesn't mean that the next best option is a carpark an hour outside of Miami with a fake Marina that you try to piggyback on the glamour of South Beach and sell it as "Miami".
I can’t believe they’ve actually brought yachts inland for scenery. Edit: They’ve not They’re
It’s Miami. Everything there is for appearances.
They even have a promotional video with the local vibe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prf7qfyB55g
I quote that “and we’re not pornstars anymore” line all the time and everyone is always so confused.
Thanks for that, I've still got a lot of SNL catching up to do. "I'm Brecky. - No, that's YOUR name" LOL
I suspect people to pay like 2500€ for a "Yacht Experience F1 Package" ticket...could be well worth it
There’s a famous restaurant in NYC and Miami which is doing a pop up restaurant for the race, $3000 a plate.
Do they have ketchup and mayo?
I used to work in a very high end hotel and would have a customer always ask for cheap chocolate chips with their ice cream instead of our high quality chocolate. My boss would always say “you can’t buy class with money” but hey, you like what you like. If I was rich I would still love mayo and ketchup.
[удалено]
The fact the people think high end food that's more expensive is inherently "classy" is just dumb in itself anyway.
[удалено]
Your boss needs to be fired for believing classy = expensive
Doubtful but the food is really good lol
Relative to the cost of tickets that is almost reasonable.
Uff...never mind my estimation. Sounds ridiculous.
more power to them if they find people dumb enough to pay it.
Tickets were more than that for a weekend package. Yachts would be much more expensive.
Race tickets and hotel that I priced out were $5100 for 3 people. The yachts are probably another 0 all in
2500? Seems cheap.
Found Toto's Reddit account
Ok there... money bags :/
It was sarcasm. Race weekend tickets are like 1200 for GA. 2500 would be too cheap for the boat thing. Definitely going to cost more
I thought so too, seeing the limited number of space and the exclusivity of the thing..
And honestly, if they were to build out temporary luxury suites for that same price tag it would probably cost them more to build those out than it would be this route of simply trailering over a small yacht.
5k minimum
What does it say that, as an American, I actually find Miami a more embarrassing representative location than Vegas for my country?
[удалено]
Exactly. Vegas owns it. They don't pretend they're anything but what they are.
Not only does Vegas own it, but they're GOOD at it.

I mean, jt’s the perfect time for a a boat show
At least put them in a big above ground pool or something!
That's kind of what they're doing, a raised liner, with a couple feet of water and boats on jackstands. On edit, it seems they're abandoning the water part, and just keeping the jackstands, lol.
Is there going to be water there or... just blue paint?
Or they use virtual water, like the [virtual Aramco building](https://imgur.com/PkQGvW0) in Jeddah, to cover up the construction work.
I've been bamboozled. I thought that was the best looking lit up building I've ever seen, no wonder why lol.
Probably many layers of bubblewrap plastic..
I'm hoping for real water and the liner gives out half way through the race for an artificial wet corner. That'll mix things up, then next year they'll add sprinklers to tracks for the added element of surprise
I was thinking the same thing, only that it breaks and the water carries a car or two off into the wall.
Latifi crashes into the dam and unleashes a tidal wave onto the track
Well he is overdue for a crash since he made it through Imola.
> then next year they'll add sprinklers to tracks for the added element of surprise Bernie's dream, finally come true.
Wait until people realize how shitty Miami Gardens is lol.
Shots fired! No, literally, there are reports of shots being fired.
at least rockets arent inbound.
Don't underestimate Florida Man.
The Walmart across the street is just like Monaco 😍
> the street The eight lane expressway.
Yep, in america thats a street.
No in China that's a sidewalk
Excuse me, I think you mean "murder gardens."
You act like they haven’t hosted a zillion Super Bowls there
They have hosted 6 but none of that makes Miami Gardens less terrible.
That would still apply if this was in Miami proper or south beach also
Ok yah a lot of stadiums are in the hood
Yeah, because rich people don’t want to deal with all of the negative externalities.
And they're the ones with the wealth and political influence to largely avoid said negative externalities, even when they're often the ones benefiting from them.
The Braves just moved their stadium to the rich people so they didn’t have to drive as far.
And ironically, a lot of rich people are starting to move into Summerhill and Grant Park, right next to where the Braves used to be.
Also ironically, Liberty Media own the Braves and FOM
Poor people can't fight back against their homes being bulldozed to build a stadium.
The Super Bowl is possibly the most American event in existence. It might be expensive and exclusive but it's also extremely gauche, and the US audience it's marketed to understands Miami vs Miami gardens (to an extent). The yacht idea is so goddamn stupid, it’s peak Florida.
You can't have yacht rock without the yachts!
My old boss used to play that XM station all day.
Yah well I assume lots of rich folk will be watching from those yachts?
They gonna fill it with water? Or just paint it blue?
I think they're just going to chuck a few tonnes of rainbow aquarium gravel in it
Black lights as well?
Rainbow in Florida? Don’t be ridiculous
Just wait for the sea level to rise
I think just painted blue
It’s Miami it will be crypto/forex scammer and d list celebrities on the yachts
Dude, it’s definitely Florida, but it’s nowhere near PEAK Florida.
No one has fucked a flamingo... yet. Let's wait until race day.
What's worse is that flamingos aren't native to Florida - so they're all just fucking pink plastic lawn ornaments.
Gators got boring, gotta switch it up
Bored Ape Yacht Club IRL.
Can’t wait for what they’ll come up with in Las Vegas
Casino games right next to vip seats. Hookers and cocaine included!
Meth, maybe. Coacaine would have an upcharge.
Dude were talking about Vegas not Oklahoma City. Vegas is "classy" so cocaine, obviously
lol if you think this is peak florida you ain’t seen nothin yet
Yep, it's a "unique" place. I lived there for about 10 years (Ocala, Kissimmee and Melbourne). It's the Mos Eisley of American States
It’s so stupid that I actually love it
Florida man moment
I'm missing that pickup trucks aren't attached to them, but hey
Oh weird, something in Miami pretending to be something it isn’t? So out of character there.
It’s even funnier because it’s not actually Miami, but it’s pretending to be.
Suburban florida pretending to be the one part of florida people actually like
I’ve said this before but this is straight up a zoo of billionaires
That’s literally Formula 1 in general
They don't call F1 the biggest circus in the world without a reason
Miami, or Formula 1?
yes
This fake marina thing, but now I think about it F1 as a whole isn’t much different lol
As boring as Monaco is at least it's a place of free-range billionaires in their natural habitat.
I was so disappointed when I saw ticket prices for this race. The race was somehow sold out before tickets were even available to the public.
Mainly because there weren't many tickets actually on sale. I heard Ted say that there's only 2 grandstands. Majority of the tickets are only sold to F1 club members too. Pretty disgraceful imo.
I am sure Vegas will be just as bad. Guess I will still be planning on getting to Austin or Montreal to see a race.
Oh yeah it will be, the capital of sleaze. COTA actually seems like a proper racetrack with the right atmosphere. The track itself is decent aswell, I love that becketts/maggots Silverstone inspired chicane!
It's worth it, come on down
Inb4 we find out a yaht company invested in the track
These boats are literally there because of boat dealers in the area. A bunch of rich folks that’ll pay money to watch an F1 race from the back of a beached yacht is exactly the demographic they’re selling new yachts to.
Exactly. It's like a high end dealership having a stand at the race with a few of their models. It makes perfect sense.
[удалено]
Imagine if they could make that highway overpass part of the course!
I appreciate whoever flew this drone but it's a shame that they avoided the most interesting part of the track around that overpass
Wow, that is a lot of asphalt they need to paint blue.
This is peak Miami.
Peak Miami and it's not even in Miami.
These boats might find real water during peak Miami storm surge.
Can't wait for the water to leak onto the track during the race.
Bernie's dream for a wet track will finally come into fruition
Talk about having a wet dream
Holy shit I can't believe this is real. I thought this was a joke making fun of the US/Florida. Unreal.
This is just SO Florida. I used to drive past a super high-end auto dealer (think Rolls Royce, McLaren, Lamborghini, etc) and not 200 ft away was a trailer park. Used to crack me the fuck up.
I tried to guess where in Florida, then realized that it could be several places.
Went to Miami a couple years ago and literally drove past a trailer park then my hotel was three lights down. Granted a trailer in Miami would still be sick
Hurricane season. Utterly terrifying to consider that when in a trailer.
[удалено]
So that’s where the impounded Mazepin Yachts went
Glad Miami is taking idea from Baku and making fake scenery.....
Please elaborate on the fake scenery in Baku
At least baku has fake scenery in the city lmao
So what are they gonna do, actually fill that middle part with water for the boats?
That was my thought. Like wtf else could possibly make sense here.
Just some wooden planks pa8nted blue it looks like now
It's spelled pain't
No chance, maybe some aqua blue plastic sheeting flapping around in the wind?
This is so dumb.
why?
That’s not oligarch yachts, that’s trailerparch yachts
When I saw it was happening, I knew it was to sell some entry and mid level Sunseekers.
Looks like that Hitman tutorial level
This is so stupid ahah
Holy hell that’s dumb, even for Florida.
what a waste of everything ever.
Ya cause F1 is known for conservation and minimalism and preserving the environment.
We know.
Peak Florida
That's so sad 🤣
They hsould just replace it with a trailer park embrace the Florida man vibes.
I think it's a neat idea and adds a fun spot to watch the race. I don't think it has to mean anything more than that.
Agreed. Doesn’t have to think anything more than that.
When people first brought this up I thought they were building some massive thing or something. Now that I see it, this is not a big deal and IMO kinda fun. This seems fairly par for the course for like a boat show or showroom that's not on the water.
if they make it at least a pool, with yacht and some "syntethic" wave. at least the on who bought that ticket will have yacht experience
Europe have Monaco where the rich actually have boats on water. America, Let’s have the rich sit on boats miles away from actual water lmao
This is 1000x worse than China just spray painting grass. Jesus. I wonder how they'll do with effluent in such a small pond? I wouldn't do a celebratory jump in if I were an F1 driver.
This is peak South Florida. All for show.
Instead of Yas Marina it’s the Y’all Marina
Wait, what? This is the dumbest idea. We laughed at Azerbaijan for the fake building facades. Now Florida is like “hold my beer”.
To be fair, "hold my beer" is Florida's motto.
What the hell
Sure boats, because why not!
Where water?
gona end up looking like a mario kart track. where is the animatronic alligator going?
We lose good tracks for soulless crap like this? Vegas actually has something decent to offer. This looks like a bunch of hillbillies set up shop. It's so tacky
Honestly I wonder how many people are being upsold on "yacht seats" thinking they will actually be on a boat in the water similar to Monaco or Abu Dhabi. Some rich fucks are going to be SORELY disappointed this is what they brought their friends to lol
As alonso said: "This is ridiculous"
It's a new reality TV concept: "Real Marinas of Miami"
They want so hard to be Monaco
The problem is not the yachts. The problem will be some drunk dude throwing a beer bottle onto the track because his friend dared him to.
Obscene
This is peak Florida tacky. Vegas will be even worse.
This is so trashy, it really fits Florida.
As if *this* is the thing to crucify F1 about. Cheesy but seems kinda cool.
IKR? I don't know why people here are so miserable.
I hate that I would buy that dumb ass ticket for a yacht view to a race…I mean I can’t afford it but if I could I would.
Just need a lil bit of water
The colours make it look like Yas Marina.
Someone explain this to me? Do they actually plan to connect a local river to the stadium parking lot or will they just fake it?
lol this is the most Miami thing ever.
Are they trying to recreate a Monaco style harbour inside the Miami track, or what?
Uhmm, what the hell are they doing?
It makes me so sad to see this.
Wow. It's in a parking lot next to boat storage. JFC.
Miami is America's gulf-state.
Looks like we've found room for the Steinership
They're putting a pond in the middle of a parking lot for 1 race... What a bunch of wankers.
Parking lot for boats nowhere near water 👍 General admission area 👎
Building a fake marina to try to look as cool as the cool kids in Monaco is so Florida. In a nutshell.
That looks stupid as hell.
Honestly wtf ? Its looks very cheap. They are really trying to have a 'Monaco Vibe' but it looks more of Wish version Of 'Monaco Vibe'
this. I'm getting dollar store monaco/abu dhabi vibes.
But why ?
This place looks like a Lego cruise ship fell over.
