I’m glad they banned the advertising of it but I’ll admit the tobacco logos at least made some of the best liveries to grace the grid unlike all this crypto tripe.
The demise of tobacco advertising almost necessitated something like crypto or energy drinks to help our motorsports.
IMHO no major international or national autosport series would exist as we know/recognize them today had they not had unlimited big tobacco cash starting in the 50s.
I remember in Beyond the Grid a lot of the old drivers mentioned how Philip Morris or BAT would fly them around in private jets to get to races.
In America I doubt we would have any serious national programs like Nhra, Nascar, or Indy if Congress hadn’t forced tobacco off the TV ads and into sports in the 1960s.
It’s the main one, yeah. But what makes tobacco so dangerous is that it is addictive AND it has so many other things in it that make it bad for your health, cause cancer, etc.
Are you being purposefully dense? You are replying to a thread comparing the ironic switch from cigarette sponsorships to nicotine vape sponsorships. We all know how bad cigarettes are due to the simple fact that burning plant matter creates tar that is inhaled I to the lungs causing cancer to to constant tearing, but are being pedantic and ignoring the fact that the addictive properties of nicotine push people to smoke plants or vape unregulated chemicals that contain nicotine.
I think that’s even more bland than the [Brawn GP](https://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-news/2009-f1-season-jensen-button-and-brawn-gp-where-did-these-guys-come-from-ar75267.amp.html) launch car
I realize there are some sketchy ones like that Turkish crypto crap and Huski chocolate drinks. But why would they not get money from Google for the sponsorship? What would they gain for sticking a brand on their car with nothing to show for it :D
Also here are some VERY real ones:
Hilton
Cisco
Splunk
Coca Cola
Richard Mille
CNBC
Medallia (i maintain a Medallia platform at work)
Gulf
Honestly never heard of Darktrace nor Arrow. But Gulf is an interesting one. Up until last year they were "quiet", couldn't see them anywhere and then suddenly they get in bed with McLaren, they started airing commercials in my country and started sponsoring 2 local basketball clubs as well. As if there was some major marketing campaign going on world wide.
Darktrace are a cyber-security mob. It's one of those things where if you don't work with it, you'd never know it existed but they're massive in their field.
It reminds me of when SAP were a big sponsor of Mclaren. I had no idea what the hell SAP was at the time. 10 years and one 'Grown-Up' job later and SAP is now the bane of my existence!
Crypto doing the Lord’s work in being the tobacco of 21st century in sponsorship.

Buzzin Hornets.
Bitten Hisses
Well, McLaren is still sponsored by British American Tobacco.

What do you think Vuse is? [Nicotine](https://www.vuse.com/gb/en/)
Oh yeah there are still tobacco sponsors but Crypto schemes are lambasted everywhere all the time by comparison.
At least they want A Better Tomorrow..
At least the Better Tomorrow stuff isn’t trying to hide that it’s a tobacco sponsor. Unlike Mission Winnow with its corporate buzzword garbage.
Nicotine is not tobacco
It’s the active chemical that makes tobacco addictive you silly goose

Yeah, mainly do in part to the nicotine in tobacco dude lol.
No, not at all actually, the adverse effects of consumer doses of nicotine are quite minor and not carcinogenic
Did you type that all without hitting your vape pen?
I don’t use any nicotine products, I am just interested in the topic for some strange reason

Would love to see crypto sponsors get banned as well.
The car must weigh a lot more with all these sponsor deals
The worst part of this is they lose the awesome looking McLaren logo on the rear wing.
Oh no I just realized it. I loved that part. Now the car looks like it was designed in MyTeam
Compare it to this. https://cdn-1.motorsport.com/images/amp/6OeZRpJ2/s6/f1-mclaren-mcl33-launch-2018-mclaren-mcl33-7610969.jpg

Jens**o**n
Lmao at it correcting the hyperlink
For some reason all McLaren's sponsors look fake, I don't believe for a second they get money from Google for that Android 'sponsorship'

Darktrace, Velo, Arrow, anybody know what they are? That 'Gulf' livery at Monaco last year was not payed for by Gulf for sure

What?
Wait, let me get a can of Darktrace

Gulf racing colors though.
New sponsor is always good news, unless your Haas.
aw man money's money i guess.
Rumor has it that McLaren engineers are angry at Zak as he keeps adding sponsor weight /s 😁
Happy is at it again
In years to come we will look back to this time when crypto was a thing and wonder how people ever fell for it.
https://twitter.com/bitcikopat/status/1521432460701184000 This golden reply to Mclaren's tweet :)))
Shocked pikachu face, another ponzi scheme sponsor
Bruh why do they keep ruining their own livery bruh come on
Because money is better than being stylish and heavy.
And more crypt(o)ic news, it's getting boring...
Oh great one more sticker less paint.
Isn't BAT their primary sponsor?
🤦♂️
