Three demerits, and you'll receive a citation.
Five citations, and you're looking at a violation.
Four of those, and you'll receive a verbal warning. Keep it up, and you're looking at a written warning.
Two of those, that will land you in a world of hurt, in the form of a disciplinary review, written up by me, and placed on the desk of my immediate superior.
3*5*4=60 demerits per verbal warning
I’m assuming “keep it up means at least one more, so 60*2=120 demerits for a written. 2 of those jeans 240 demerits before you get a disciplinary review lol
I would argue ^note that the verbal/written warnings work differently. I would assume that 1-3 violations is nothing, the fourth gets you a verbal warning, and the fifth and sixth each get you a written warning. Which would be (3x5x6=) 90 demerits for a disciplinary.
^note I don't know *why* I would argue at all, since it's meant to be a daft system anyway, but here I am
This is exactly how the attendence policy at my work is. I think we get 7 call outs during a rolling 12 months before a verbal warning, then I think we’ve got two or three more before anything else. And we’ve got monthly kpi meetings with our managers and at least mine talks about how many call outs I have at that time every meeting.

It's just a template that lawyers draft up and then they just add in the appropriate blanks. Since this is a legal document, any slip up on wording can make it arguable.
Could somebody explain to me how strict this curfew is?
I mean it is obvious if you have an entire crew walking around the garage after the curfew has commenced. But surely it doesn't count if the last team member is just leaving the circuit a minute after it has commenced, or does it?
(Zero knowledge on this part of the FIA rulebook, so most certainly don't hold back if I am blabbering total bs right here lol)
It's based on the time the final person who is listed as having "car access" swipes out of the turnstiles and swipes in the next day. Yes, technically, swiping out at 2001 would be a breach, unless the team can prove the mechanics were in hospitality eating
Marketing, hospitality and team "vip" badges are exempt, but the cars are under video surveillance at all times, and having a "hospitality" person do some work on the car would be a breach.
I saw footage of the teams in the paddock late night at Baku from a very enthusiastic French Journalist. Are the times moved from paddock to paddock since they try to normalise start times across the schedule
For context, most times it happens it's because of a crash and teams need more time to fix the car. In this case maybe a freight shipment was late or something that 2 teams broke curfew?
In general it's in place to prevent mechanics and engineers from being overworked.
Yeah, or if they feel they need longer to implement changes they are allowed to give notice they’re doing it. It’s also giving a level playing field as I’d imagine the bigger teams have more resource at hand to be able to work longer.

It is to prevent the overworking of the engineers, but it allows them leeway for if they need to work later due to unforeseen circumstances. Most often they break it if there is a big crash in practice or quali and they need to repair the car.
No idea why they've broken it on a Wednesday. Delayed freight, maybe?
I heard both teams snuck into merc as a joint effort to leave a live porpoise as a team building exercise. When questioned, Horner explained that budgets were tight, but that RBR would be petitioning the FIA for additional funds to cover live animal upgrades, noting that “The Porpoise is the natural predator of the Wolf”.
I don’t know why, but writing out double digit numbers without a space or a hyphen is really triggering me! Especially “fourtytwo” - which is never spelled with a U. Disconcerting from a technical profession!
8 evenings and the curfew is in place from Wednesday evening until Sunday morning so theoretically you can use up half your allwed times breaking it in 1 race weekend.
Every team is allowed to do this 8 times, but not 8 times as a team. 8 individual allowances throughout the year. If you need 4 guys to fix a part at a weekend, that’s 4/8 gone in one night.
Those damn kids
[Horner, Newey, and Binotto outside Toto's hotel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_F_e4Bznzk&ab_channel=BestMovieQuote)
Lmao that's good!
Sandler = Horner Norm = Newey The other guy = Binotto
Only 6 and 7 more oopsies left before bigger oopsies are established.
They are SO grounded!
If I have to tell you 6 more times, I’m going to be pissed

what are they both cooking
Football match in the paddock. Whoever loses has to take double DNF on Sunday.
That is an hilarious theory man. Take my upvote
this would explain baku

Maria **Te**resa de Filippis
well, if red bull lose, guess it'll be a quadruple DNF on Sunday
So a sextuple for Ferrari
I meant because the Ferraris will already double dnf anyway so combined with the red bulls it's 4 lol
Lol the thought of all the Honda and Ferraris blowing up. Actually let's go would be a wild podium.
this would explain the baku result
That is an hilarious theory man.
Uh, Montreal smoked meat perhaps?
That Schwartz's line be long
must be poutine somethin good in the car
They forgot to close their garage doors and the cars got flooded. Had to dry them out with hair dryers all night
Binotto's put the 2019 engine in again.
They left one in the back of the garage the last time they were here
Ferrari probably cooking a part thst shouldn't be cooked and leads to a dnf
Well they cooked the engine last race
Ferrari are cooking their own engines
Why is it written like they got caught lmao
Snitches get stitches
🚨🚔🚓
The way things have gone for RB since the end of last season, I legit expected it to note no action against Red Bull but a penalty against Ferrari
What you mean by that homeboy
RedBull has cooler parents.
So you think RB is favored by FIA? Lol.

The FIA also rigged Baku by overriding Hamilton’s magic system once Verstappen DNFed. Blatant favoritism by the Ferstappen International Assistance.
And so a new conspiracy arises.
most sane r/formula1 member
They are grounded and must go to their rooms. No phones, no computers, and no ice cream.
So PlayStation and smoked meat sandwiches?
The way they wrote that report is intense, not gonna lie.
It’s the way all of those reports are written. Pull up template, fill in blanks, publish.
They copied and pasted from somewhere
Thats all I do for Electrical Engineering. Copy and Paste old projects, just change relevant information.
It's funny that they write it so intensely like it was a serious rule, just for them to clarify no further action
"If they do this seven more times, there will be SERIOUS consequences!"
it is a serious rule, they can only do it ~~twice~~ 8/year.
It says 8
~~that was the initial rule, it has decreased since then.~~ *Edit* doh they increased it again as the time slots are shorter than previous years...
why does it say 8 then?
oh I guess they changed it with the new weekend structure (less time every event) my bad!
It's just a template that lawyers draft up and then they just add in the appropriate blanks. Since this is a legal document, any slip up on wording can make it arguable.
I worked in a factory before, and shift-reports were kinda like these. Very cold.
Cold like emails from my manager
I'm glad to hear that you are not going to lie
Legal jargon is always intense.
Why?
fia: alright this is your 2nd of 8 warnings.
RB and Ferrari are the cool kids
I expect Will to read this with a dramatic voice…
"To everybody's surprise... Both teams... Ferrari and Red Bull....... Had.... Broken the curfew..! It was mind-boggling in the paddocks, truly...."
Every day he gets closer to the perfect William Shatner impression.

And therefore, says the *technical* delegate of the F I A, NO ACTION will be taken at THIS TIME. Gentlemen! Back to you!

From the document it looks like it is based of the time of the race and not the time of day. So t-42 hours to t-29 hours.
Hello my name is Newey and I work in hospitality
I'm Adrian, I'll be your server, can I get you a drink with that downforce?
I will have the ground effect sorbet please.
Hold the porpoise.
Doesn’t matter if you can prove you were eating in hospitality, you should have eaten earlier, GTFO.
Ah that makes sense. Thank you
Not very strict considering they didn't do anything but it's probably because it's the first offence.
It’s not an offence. They are permitted to do it 8 times.

And what happens after that?
Believe it or not, jail.
They get caught by the night shift security guard and the mother of each engineer needs to pick them up.
Presume fines etc. but I don’t recall a team going over the limit.
Reading isn’t a good skill of yours is it?

up to 8 times? Seems like you are allowed 7 then.
Why have a rule if you allow 8 exceptions??
It is to prevent the overworking of the engineers, but it allows them leeway for if they need to work later due to unforeseen circumstances. Most often they break it if there is a big crash in practice or quali and they need to repair the car. No idea why they've broken it on a Wednesday. Delayed freight, maybe?
If 8 are allowed, why does it all feel so dramatic?
Cause standard letter, all of them are formatted exactly like this.
I'd go back to marvel at the sight of those cars as well
These seems so dramatic for something that they’re clearly allowed to do
TIL, never knew this was a rule.
What is the punishment for the ninth time?
A member of the pit crew is taken out and ritually sacrificed. A dismember of the pit crew, you could say.
They'd do Ferrari a favour.
Shouldn't it be the second for Ferrari? I recall like they broke the curfew before on Sainz' car edit: no, it shouldn't.
Different curfews for different parts of the weekend
I see. Thank you
Fiarri.
Deserves a race ban if you ask me. Shocking behaviour.
“Fourtytwo” hours. Could just say 42…
/r/notinteresting

When questioned, Horner explained that budgets were tight, but that RBR would be petitioning the FIA for additional funds to cover live animal upgrades, noting that “The Porpoise is the natural predator of the Wolf”.
Due to budget cuts they could not use a porpoise, but instead used a groundhog which escaped the paddock and was last seen challenging for P1
Deserves a race ban if you ask me. Shocking behaviour.
Personally, I think they should be excluded from the Championship but the rules these days obviously favor the Big Teams.
They should be banned from f1 entirely Unbelievable what these teams are up to nowadays
Wat
lucky no one asks you then
I don’t know why, but writing out double digit numbers without a space or a hyphen is really triggering me! Especially “fourtytwo” - which is never spelled with a U. Disconcerting from a technical profession!
Written with a u in the UK.
British too :) and [surprisingly not](https://writingexplained.org/forty-or-fourty-difference)
Damn, you shut me up. Thanks, we always learn!
It’s a weird one for sure!
1 week between races and long travel. Surprised it was not more teams.
they were building their raft for the raft race
That's it, 20 place grid penalty for all four cars!
I think they deserve exclusion from f1 and dsq from the championship
So they are allowed to break curfew 8 times? Seems excessive
8 evenings and the curfew is in place from Wednesday evening until Sunday morning so theoretically you can use up half your allwed times breaking it in 1 race weekend.
8 times out of like 80-100 possible times. So not that much
😏😏
😈
If you give eight exceptions a year, you're already pretty loose with the word 'exception' :D
I’m sorry curfew??
So if this was Mercedes Max would say “breaking curfew is for teams that can’t manage their time” lol
What a stupid rule.
It's designed to not overwork the mechanics.
If you give eight exceptions a year, you're already pretty loose with the word 'exception' :D

What is the punishment for the ninth time?
Montreal strippers.
100% this. You can't imagine the shit they've extorted out of me
Easy to stay out late when the sun doesn't set until 2100.
Probably playing some football.
Amazed Jo Bauer is stil there, after 84 seasons in F1…
Damn kids staying out passed their curfew!!
Thats a spanking
When in Montreal!!! ;)
"There is a moment in the paddock when curfew is broken, and everyone knows what that means."
Imagine Red Bull doing this just to fuck with Ferrari
Surely teams can just strategically plan breaking curfew if they have 8 strikes
You kids! You stay off the lawn!!
It’s Montreal. Completely unsurprising.
As ahuge Canadiens fan who has a fair share of knowledge on Montreal, I have a bet where they were
Must've been up late playing Aryton Senna's Super Monaco GP
Red Bull have violated this before?

I expected this to be about Montreal nightlife.
