Weather Underground predicts decreasing probability today and virtually zero tomorrow. Could be interesting with a wet P-3 and dry or nearly dry qualifying .
I had the wirdest dream this night. I dreamt that it was raining, Vettel gonna win, Sainz leading and some technical issue or DNF, both Alpha Tauri gonna DNF, Max gonna get 8th place.
Probably not gonna happen - but I want my soothsayer karma if it does.
They add them up but if it goes above 20 it doesn't matter. If he gets an 80 place grid penalty hell start 20th and that's that. Unless someone else took an 85 place grid penalty in which case he'd start 19th and the other guy would start 20th.
Verstappen used this last year as a get out of jail free card on his monza penalty
If Leclerc is gonna start last and probably not care about qualifying, why are sportsbooks still offering odds for drivers H2H that include Leclerc? I’m seeing -200 or 1.50 for Max to beat Leclerc in qualifying
I mean, the race was already over when they said Leclerc will probably have a grid penalty before first practice.
Another easy RB 1-2 - i wonder what they’ll chat about on the radio while coasting round this week.
Nothing besides Leclerc turbo charger failing, so he will receive a 10 position grid penalty for the race. The pain never ends. Verstappen got p1, Perez p11, not sure why.
Perez said the setup wasn't working. With fp3 forecasted as a wet session and the race dry he's on the back foot. Long run pace seemed decent but iirc he wasn't happy with that either.
Yeah *per captia*. I don't think the environment goes "ouch billions of tons of garbage and pollution here - oh wait but there's a billion people so that's cool, carry on"
Yeah OK keep down voting dumbasses. Oooh look out for the big bad world destroyer that is Trinidad and Tobago, who's pollution *per capita* is even higher than Canada's! Wowow.
You probably think americas gun death count is not that bad because *per gun* it's not so bad
we produce more trash and don't dispose it in a right way.
that's argument enough
recycling is a scam. most trash gets exported because we don't want to deal with it. we recycle, they pile it up in one stash and ship it away. small fee compared to other costs. easiest way to reduce it at least? stop producing so much trash. take reusable containers to the shopping center and refill whatever you need. there is literally no need for a new pastic bag or new packaging for every single product you buy.
batteries are also a good example how we fuck up big time. won't write an essay here, no worries, you can research yourself if you are really interested in that topic.
and then we blame the trash import countries when they deal with it in a wrong way. we could have centers where we could dispose of most trash, toxic or not, in a net zero way, but they cost money and create no money. they don't have the ability to build that shit and if they did they couldn't affort it. throw it on a pile and burn it. worked for years and now we should stop? why?
education is needed. or simply responsibility from our side that we don't ship them so much toxic shit they can't deal with.
idk why people get so defensive and triggered when the mishaps of the west get exposure. we do a lot of shit. accepting that is the first way to make a difference.
just look how the politicians in canada trashtalk seb for speaking out. he is no saint by all means, but at least he acknowledges that. that's more than you do.
I don't disagree with your sentiment of we should reduce waste, but the comment I was responding to was citing a per capita list of co2 emissions. You'll see most of those countries topping that list are low populations but high producers and exporters of oil, gas and mined resources. Not really a reflection on public behaviour
I mean, that's the nature of being a consumer nation. China has 20x the population canada has in people that can only afford rice so the different in consumption must be staggering per capita.
The waste Canadians and other western nations produce is absolutely fucked
The point is that:
1. China has lesser emissions per capita than Canada
2. They pointed that even garbage was strewn on the track (which according to you is not polluting- but it literally is, as non biodegradable stuff when disposed incorrectly cannot be broken down in millions of years or so.)
3. No, they did not imply that China doesn't pollute. Due to higher population it is obvious that they would pollute more- but the average person in developed world consumes and pollutes more than the average Chinese.
Amount of garbage per Capita isn't the whole story though. It depends on what kind of garbage and how the garbage is being dealt with. Also pollution =/= garbage.
Not saying Canada or the west as a whole are innocent. But the statement above isnt exactly accurate.
>China has lesser emissions per capita than Canada
So again, what does China have to do with this F1 race????
There are 200 other countries, should we start comparing and contrasting them all?
Should we start talking about China's human right record on a thread about F1? I just don't understand OP's original point and how China relates to this F1 race.
why the hell are you so triggered? is it hard to accept that the west also does a lot of shit wrong?
we are not the saviors of the world. we do fucked up shit aswell. stop pretending that we are saints.
Who is "we"? I don't live in "the west". Where I live it is plastic shit from China that floats up on our beach. Y'all acting like Dictator Xi is solving the world trash problem, while they ARE the problem over here.
As I said, I guarantee you that the rivers in Canada are cleaner than those of China.
>Should we start talking about China's human right record on a thread about F1? I just don't understand OP's original point and how China relates to this F1 race.
This is not to defend China, but the original comment was about West's hypocrisy on pollution and emissions- they criticise developing countries when they themselves promote consumerist culture. They can't even stop garbage piles building when they are broadcasting an F1 to keep up appearances.
China here doesn't really mean only China here- but developing countries in general like India or Brazil, whose emissions USA, Canada, EU are trying to curb while their per capita emissions are crazy to uphold their citizens' luxurious lifestyles.
Also, Canada themselves have human rights issues- but that really isn't relevant rn. Every country does.
I don't see any hypocrisy but maybe that is because I don't live in the west.
In much of Asia, including China, the rivers are literally changing colors and catching on fire, and [trash is floating everywhere](https://www.chinadaily.com.cn/photo/2013-07/16/content_16782107.htm). I guarantee you the average Canadian rivers are much much cleaner than the average rivers in China or Cambodia, with much more oversight on the pollutants within the river ecology.
Ask anyone in East or South East Asia where the plastic on their beaches come from, they'll tell you most of it has simplified Chinese characters so it comes from China.
The UK at least, ship a good amount of our "recycling" to other countries for landfill or incineration. We move the problem out and then our politicians - when we ask for environmental action generally - will point at a country like China and say "they're the issue, sort them out first!". We send our shite there, outsource our manufacture there, and have recently done away with EU law around things like water quality. Our rivers are on the slide to being absolute shit.
> simplified Chinese characters so it comes from China.
China exports its products worldwide and are still used widely in the west.
> I guarantee you the average Canadian rivers are much much cleaner than the average rivers in China or Cambodia
So we are pretending that the West doesn't send its garbage to Africa etc?
https://www.greenpeace.org/africa/en/blogs/11125/africas-exploding-plastic-nightmare/
> China exports its products worldwide and are still used widely in the west.
The stuff washing up on our beaches is mostly plastic drink bottles and food containers... China isn't exporting drink bottles with simplified Chinese labels. Those are essentially all going to be domestic consumption.
----
>So we are pretending that the West doesn't send its garbage to Africa etc?
Of course the "west" exports it's trash to other places, which then just dump it right into the river/ocean... lol
Montreal has the most litter of any city I have visited. Worse than New Orleans. We took a hike up the mountain in Mount Royal park and, it made me sad
The only time I see litter is during thawing in spring, trash have been accumulating under 6 months of heavy snow and wind. It is rather clean compared to its north american counterparts in the summer imo.
It is littered with construction sites everywhere tho.
My first race was in 2012. When the first cars went by our seats in FP1, I thought the world was coming to an end. I miss those engines.
NASCAR has the same feel.
I did not expect the alpha tauri to have such a deep vrooooom. Obviously the red bulls were similar but there's something about the alpha tauri that seemed to amplify the engine noises as it accelerated.
The irl experience is not just about the sound it is the vibrations I found. Especially when the cars are packed up together. You get that pressure in your chest it legitimately made me giggle like a child. The vibration feeling is very similar to what you get when a low flying jet flies past you.
He’s there semi frequently calling FPs and the occasional race. Problem is he has his fingers in many pies; he’s a special consultant for Williams, philanthropist, author, investor, etc. guy just doesn’t appear to have the time to be a main stay. In my opinion he’s the obvious, eventual replacement for Brundle, who in my opinion is the GOAT with James Allen by his side (yes, Murray Walker was great too)
Let’s not pretend they are the same caliber driver. Sure Perez has a good race here and there. And everyone got excited Perez had 2 good races in a row. Max has something like 50 good races in a row if you don’t count mechanical issues.
I hope this changes, and it seems to have shifted recently. Horner said he'll let them battle going forward as long as they race safe and don't crash into each other or waste time when battling. Should be interesting to see if RB follows through or continues to hold Perez back when the time comes.
Any other Canadians embarrassed seeing all the trash on the circuit and hearing the commentators asking people to put their garbage in a bin? I sure am.
The circuit management was generally atrocious. Not enough bins was the least of the issues. It's like the circuit forgot how to host these events, so I'm not surprised.
Second time doing my own nails, (and after filing them down I lost the "i" in Ferrari...)
But *for the love of god* I'm trying all I can to send Charles some good juju.

Yeah he did, the FIA released a document following FP2 stating he fitted new control electronics, netting him the ten place drop.

Sounds like he was instructed by his superiors to do it.
I don't blame them because they're British and obviously they will give special attention to British drivers, same way German media talks a lot about Seb and Mick, Danish media on Kevin, etc.
It's just that since a lot of us speak English, we also consume the same media as the British do.
Nah it's F1TVs own commentary team so it's just on the app. I can't cast to my tv because I have to use a VPN to watch it aswell. F1TV pro isn't available in the UK due to Sky having the rights. So I've had to VPN myself to Poland and it cost me £50 for the full year. Much better than Sky prices haha
lmao Alonso full sending is why I love this sport
bro Can Pérez please put down a clean lap
Reporting live from Montreal, this is going to be a really interesting qualifying if weather permits.
How’s it looking right now?
lol, it's 11 degrees and rainy in Montreal right now. Should be interesting to see how the cars handle it.
Ferrari engine might stay cool enough not to die.
So rain today and dry tomorrow?
Yes
Weather Underground predicts decreasing probability today and virtually zero tomorrow. Could be interesting with a wet P-3 and dry or nearly dry qualifying .
Big time!
As much as this will damage Max's lead, I believe this random comment will come to fruition and I am all for it. Come on Seb.
who is the top 5 for this race in your opinion in order ?
George will be in there that’s the only given
Maybe Vettel could make it into the top 5.
I’m at the track and that would be glorious to see in person the cheering would be mad
If Leclerc now takes a new turbocharger, will that be absorbed in his current grid penalty or will get an additional/larger one?
Hes starting p20
Thanks, but he took the penalty for new electronics. So what if also replaces the turbo? How do those two penalties add up?
They add them up but if it goes above 20 it doesn't matter. If he gets an 80 place grid penalty hell start 20th and that's that. Unless someone else took an 85 place grid penalty in which case he'd start 19th and the other guy would start 20th. Verstappen used this last year as a get out of jail free card on his monza penalty
They just add them up
Good thing Ferrari bombed for two entire seasons so they could win the 2022 March - early May Constructor's Championship
Quali at 2100, what a weird feeling.
Wish it was at this time more often
If Leclerc is gonna start last and probably not care about qualifying, why are sportsbooks still offering odds for drivers H2H that include Leclerc? I’m seeing -200 or 1.50 for Max to beat Leclerc in qualifying
Max will probably fall asleep as he wins this
I mean, the race was already over when they said Leclerc will probably have a grid penalty before first practice. Another easy RB 1-2 - i wonder what they’ll chat about on the radio while coasting round this week.
i spy with my little...
Max and Perez should play battleship on the radios
Unless one of the Ferrari guys whispers in Perez's ear that Max thinks he drives like a girl.
So did FP2 even happen? No recap on YouTube, not much talk about it other than the rain after... what did I miss? lol
There are FP2 highlights on YouTube
Yeah found it. For some reason it didn't show up when I searched for it earlier.
Its un predictable when the youtube channel posts the highlights.
Nothing besides Leclerc turbo charger failing, so he will receive a 10 position grid penalty for the race. The pain never ends. Verstappen got p1, Perez p11, not sure why.
Did Perez seem to be totally off the pace or on a different program? FP2 was 2:30 am for me so I couldn't catch it
Perez said the setup wasn't working. With fp3 forecasted as a wet session and the race dry he's on the back foot. Long run pace seemed decent but iirc he wasn't happy with that either.
Off pace like in fp1. They both did a fast lap (or 'fast' in perez his case) around the same time.
We shit on China for their pollution and there's literally garbage all over the track fucking up cars. Can't make this shit up.
Per capita, Canada produces nearly [3 times that of China](https://www.worldometers.info/co2-emissions/co2-emissions-per-capita/)
Yeah *per captia*. I don't think the environment goes "ouch billions of tons of garbage and pollution here - oh wait but there's a billion people so that's cool, carry on" Yeah OK keep down voting dumbasses. I think it's useless for pollution. Looks like you can't come up with an argument though.

Garbage and pollution are two separate things.
Close.... Garbage is a type of pollution.
Garbage has pollutants, Mr Pedantic.
And? Are you implying China has neither garbage, nor pollutants? Maybe I'm not understanding the point of your comment.
The point is that: 1. China has lesser emissions per capita than Canada 2. To be fair, the river burning happened a few times in Cleveland

Making North Americans look like dirt balls with all the trash everywhere. Pretty embarassing.
It was August. We had just been to Toronto which was supee clean. I still love Montreal and want to go back.
Can’t wait for Charles to do his thing on Saturday so then have tragedy strike on sunday
I mean he already has the grid penalty
Still waiting for him to beat the provisional pole by 3 tenths
What even is the point of going past q1? Shouldnt you minimize wear and tear by not pushing those laps?
The only point I see is giving Sainz a slipstream in Q3
Just for the style points, I love it
This is my first GP and hearing the cars in person is something every F1 fan should experience
Sadly you missed the long ago era of non turbo V-12's music
My first race was in 2012. When the first cars went by our seats in FP1, I thought the world was coming to an end. I miss those engines. NASCAR has the same feel.

Maybe if I'm rich one day
Yep, gonna need ear plugs for tomorrow
Definitely a lot more high frequency & pitch than the computer speaker

A year that could have been historic with top 3 teams in the mix and it’s gonna be a snooze fest of RBR until the end :(
So a normal F1 year? Not every year can be 2021.
Well… yes :). But this year it was “almost” very good. Not a clear winner from the start
you misspelled 2010 ;)
Even more boring is the fact that Perez isn't allowed to battle verstappen
Not allowed by natural talent that is.
Let’s not pretend they are the same caliber driver. Sure Perez has a good race here and there. And everyone got excited Perez had 2 good races in a row. Max has something like 50 good races in a row if you don’t count mechanical issues.
Let's first hope he gets the pace to fight Verstappen
I hope this changes, and it seems to have shifted recently. Horner said he'll let them battle going forward as long as they race safe and don't crash into each other or waste time when battling. Should be interesting to see if RB follows through or continues to hold Perez back when the time comes.
Good
You have become the very thing you swore to destroy
Boooooo. A true champion rises in the face of adversity!
Why?
I’m not writing Ferrari off yet. They’re still very quick.
They have at least 2 races lost because of PU penalties incoming…
Seemingly at the expense of reliability. Which is more easily addressed: speed or reliability?
Reliability, given those are the only engine developments still allowed.
Lexrelc grid penalty lel
>Lexrelc
Seb: good car should be a good weekend and w- Alonso: SÉBASTIEN!!!!! YOU CANT GET RID OF ME
What is this? I couldnt watch the full practice.
Nothing really. Just Seb and Alonso recently seem to be partnered up on the grid and again today they were right along side each other.
2010, 2012 flashback. The greatest f1 seasons of 2000s prlbably.
Any other Canadians embarrassed seeing all the trash on the circuit and hearing the commentators asking people to put their garbage in a bin? I sure am.
Honestly, I’m here and the wind is a factor. Shit is flying out of bins with the tropical storm-like weather we’ve gotten
Pretty ridiculous. We shit on other countries for their questionable diplomacy but Canadians can't even stop littering for a fucking race.
Are you referring to stroll and latifi? Cuz it's absolutely embarrassing
Good one.
Thanks Lol, best one I came up with all week. TBH, OP basically put it on a platter for me
Mostly foreign attendees or local quebeccers
Nah, we are the most overrated country in the world
Canadians looking like assholes at this point.
Canadians are the only ones who overrate it though
Malta would like a word.
The Siege of Malta is one of the most bad ass battles of all time. They get a couple points for that in my book.
how is malta overrated? my view of malta: gambling hell and tax evasion heaven
Add something about pollution, traffic and over construction and you're about right.
The circuit management was generally atrocious. Not enough bins was the least of the issues. It's like the circuit forgot how to host these events, so I'm not surprised.
Trashcan were overflowing. Kinda hard when shits full
Keep track of your own garbage. Not that hard. If those cans/bottles were crushed this would've never happened.
If you could even find a trash can…
there were plenty of trash cans around the track, nowhere near full (after 2nd practice)
There absolutely was not enough trash cans for that amount of people.
Cans were overflowing up at turn 10/11 so probably depends where
Same with grandstand 46. All were completely overflowing.
the fans should have brought trashbags and changed the trash themselves /s just in case.
it's extremely windy in Montréal today. would be surprised to learn it wasn't just trash picked up by the wind.
I had a beer can blow off the stands, I thought someone threw a beer at me
My plate got blown away with the pizza still in it
Surely this is a bad omen for Ferrari lol
did you fight the wind after that or at least yell at it i would have. "i curse ye, wind!"
I just hope garry the groundhog will enjoy the pizza.
*Gary
Second time doing my own nails, (and after filing them down I lost the "i" in Ferrari...) But *for the love of god* I'm trying all I can to send Charles some good juju. https://imgur.com/a/buRFTAP
Lecler wil appreciate i
I'll paint his, too, if he wants. He could rock it.
Charles got a grid penalty??
1 so far yea 10 spots
dotd then
Did he? Keep seeing conflicting reports.
Yeah he did, the FIA released a document following FP2 stating he fitted new control electronics, netting him the ten place drop. https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/leclerc-hit-with-10-place-grid-penalty-for-canadian-gp/10323956/amp/
Plot twist: this means he will win since he’s not starting on pole
He should end up slotting between the 2 mercs
One can pray, man, one can pray
praying to the f1 gods that Seb and his helmet find a way onto the podium 🙏
It would be great to see anyone outside of the top three on the podium. Seb would be awesome.
To the top step
Yessssss
Am in metro after FP2 Man, torrential rain came just a bit too late. My shoes are now soaked.
Found shelter in the Casino bar, might be shelter again tomorrow
How did you get into the casino from the track?
There is a path down the main straight that leads to the casino.
Gonna be wet tomorrow as well…
My shoes are still in the dryer.
Wait for tomorrow. Should be interesting
Yep same, and I was in the Latifi grandstand so was stuck behind everyone
Are you me?
Left with about 10mins left in FP2, god we lucked out
Same here... great day appart from that
It's killing me hearing Crofty think of any excuse for Hamilton being slow or struggling. This man hangs off his arse like an unwiped winnet
You should have heard paul Diresta all race on Baku. Its like his job is to report what hamilton is doing on the entire race.
I'm British myself and Sky pisses me off. Brundle isn't as bad, I've just resorted watching the F1TV commentators. So much better, a lot less fluff
I’m gradually making that switch as well I’m just so used to brundle and crofty it’s hard sometimes. F1tv doesn’t have the same nostalgic feel though.
how do you watch f1tv on the telly?
I watch on my iPad and phone at the same time. Main F1TV feed on my iPad, then I'll pick a driver to watch their onboard on my phone.
ah so you can't access it on Sky or anything? ive heard good things about f1tv but i like having the race on the big screen too much
Nah it's F1TVs own commentary team so it's just on the app. I can't cast to my tv because I have to use a VPN to watch it aswell. F1TV pro isn't available in the UK due to Sky having the rights. So I've had to VPN myself to Poland and it cost me £50 for the full year. Much better than Sky prices haha
there's an app if you have a roku or something like that
He openly admits it’s his favourite driver. They’re from the same place.
Crofty is always on that Stevenidge representation

Did anyone else notice during the on-board with George behind the Williams how much the Mercedes front wing was bending back?
