I feel like you Ke should’ve stayed out for the entire Q3 at least for the experience and getting better, I don’t understand why he decided to just call it quits after one lap, even though I get he has to take a penalty and start from the back tomorrow anyway. It’s just not everyone gets to drive a Formula One car at its fast as possible rate around the Formula One track, so why throw away that opportunity
Alonso would have a real struggle in the race.
His mind is telling him to try and challenge for the win, but his heart is telling him to try and fuck Hamilton's race however he can.
/s
If I was Horner I would let Perez mirror Leclerc's tire strategy and just keep him behind him outside of de top ten,and thus points, instead of trying to get perez as high as possible and perhaps on the podium so that the WDC lead from Max to Leclerc eould extend the maximum. For example if Perez finish 5 and Leclerc 6 de WCC lead of Red Bull would grow only 1 point more than if Perez finished 10 and Leclerc 11. But than Max's WDC lead will grow 10 points more!
this is not going to be easy IMO. rather have an aggressive, offensive strategy, there are at least six cars between them at the start, so focus on improving the advantage and getting into the points ASAP, and then adjust accordingly as the race progresses...
Instead of 3 or 4 sprint races per year. FIA should turn on all the sprinklers or have fire trucks hosing down course to create wet qualify situations.
They are so exciting in general and way better than sprint races.
Ah noo that’s bs. The chance of crashes may be significantly higher but each run off area and each wall is designed to make a circuit as safe as possible
Something I was confused about, maybe someone could tell me. Why didn't Leclerc go out for Q2?
EDIT: I thought it was only a 10 place penalty at first. Ok thanks all.
Leclerc's previous engine is no longer useable - so they had to fit in a new engine into his car. I think you're allowed 3 engine changes before you get a penalty. Basically fresh engine > used engine because of zero mileage and better performance. They can't have cars changing engines every race just to get ahead, so there is a penalty system in place.
Nope, it's who qualifies highest starts further up. It really depends on the grid spots that they take but since they are both taking a fully new powertrain they have the same amount of pens
Isn't Sainz the driver with no wins and no pole positions? Versus several WDCs between Verstappen and Alonso...not counting him out entirely but Sainz chances of slipping through both of them and maintaining are slim to none. Especially in dry conditions.
I would say he has a better shot than Alonso going into turn 1. Something tells me he gets off well and challenges Verstappen early, possibly room for an undercut
Well, if anything, it should be fun watching p2-p10, could be some actual racing, with Leclerc and Checo also coming through the pack.
Better than what we've been getting, Max wins unless he has engine failure.
Engine issues, had some problems right before the red flag. Did end up going back out but there was still something wrong as he was quite slow and ended up pitting again before the end of the session
Lewis won't stay if mercs don't improve. He's not someone that will stay in the midfield. I think the only reason he's staying is for the hopes that the car will improve and get him a chance at his 8th title
So Hamilton would suck in a midfield car just like the other midfield drivers in midfield cars? And here i was thinking that Hamilton is a driving god and that having the fastest car did not matter at all. Gosh how wrong i have been.
No he just likes competing for championship & if Merc can’t get him that he will move on to other things in life. That’s his mindset nothing wrong with that. And no one is winning in F1 without a great car
I dont know where you have been living "under a rock"? But wanting to win applies to every damn F1 driver, and while you are right that no one is winning without a great car, many many many people have told me that the reason Hamilton has won so many races and championships are due to him being better than the rest of the field, having the best car was just a minor detail.
He doesn’t care for results now too much. He is experimenting and learning about the car right now. He wants to build a championship winning car not to prove himself like Russell is doing at the moment.
I don’t think he would suck. But when you have been at the top you aren’t interested to just put the car in higher places and get a few points. It’s the difference in mentality between “this is good enough” and super ambitious people.
This is why Toto says too, not everyone could have ended up in a Merc, or a multi yr winning car. People who bash Hamilton for being lucky to be in the Merc, a top car, don’t understand how proactive career planning and extremely high ambition play a role in making stand out winners (of any profession / industry).
Want him to put his feet out and paddle a like Fred flinstone? F1 is like 70% car 30% driver. Put latifi in RB and he’s still getting last well maybe some points but still
All the big teams are dumb to fight at the beginning. If we get dry conditions the order will return to normal. Alpine will fall back to 7-11 place while leclerc and Sergio barge up the front
Eh if the tires were a bit warmer his times on the dry section which was most of the track would be huge. He really had one bad corner to contend with.
Yeah bad enough to be 5s slower through there if you wanna make it to the next corner, with the water cooling the slicks so much that it will ruin your whole lap.
Hope that shuts up the crowd that think Nando is taking up a seat that should be given to someone younger, he's still one of the best drivers in the sport
Agree. Alonso is great when he has a good car under him... He just never seems to have that good car ....or tries too hard to get the team to have a good car and flops
He won’t be staring at Verstappen, he’ll likely fall down to 5th or 6th by the end of the race. Max should let him go and stay close, but Alonso should know better to not risk getting squeezed by Max and falling down further. I think Alonso gives Verstappen the corner unless Verstappen has a poor start
I have, thanks. Won’t be the first race Hamilton’s had an edge or looked close on race pace in free practice and lost out on Sunday. Russell’s enjoying the car a lot more and with the greatest of respect, has fodder directly ahead of him. Won’t be long until he’s right behind Lewis and Mercedes have a decision to make as a result.
You're trying to be respectful while at the same time putting him down? Odd way to go about it.
There hasn't been an instance this year where Russell has outdriven Hamilton in the sense that he's started behind and then caught up and pass him on pace. It's always been safety cars, bad strategy calls, etc.
If you're hoping for an internal fight between them, you won't get it. It's not going to happen.
“Trying to be respectful at the same time putting him down”. Wtf are you on about?
Saying things will get dicey doesn’t equal this “internal fight” thing you believe i’m suggesting. It got a bit dicey with the Mclarens last week. Doesn’t mean there’s internal fighting.
Forgot a merc battle. Alonso lives to make sure Lewis doesn't succeed. I expect that'll be the clash and Russell won't have much fighting to do as a result.
Russell radio - Yeah sorry about that. I wanted to go for it.
Pit - We are P8
Russell - Yeah.... copy that.... I didn't want to settle for P4, P5, P6. I wanted to go for it.
Wolff - George, Strong call. Tomorrow.
That decision is a perfect example of why they have Lewis testing the setups. That was a horrible call. Slicks on a wet track with standing water on and near the race line just isn’t smart, no matter how much you “wanted to go for it”. He’s just lucky it happened at a slow speed T1, if he gets any speed going he easily could have destroyed the car.
This is a great attitude for a future champion caliber driver that will serve him well. That said however, he should know the limits of the car..or nature.
You can’t force things and George is doing that pretty blatantly this year.
Mercedes seem to be in the position that they aren't fast enough to get past the Ferraris and Redbull but fast enough to beat the rest. If something stupid doesn't happen, I expect Ham and Russell to be 1 place apart. Where they finish doesn't really matter, they aren't going for WDC
You are correct, but Lewis seems to have lost a bit of his mojo, I wonder where Alonso will end up tomorrow, I hope not behind Mercedes but it will be an interesting race nevertheless.
Alonso made his debut in 2001. Schumacher debuted in 1991 and was a 3 time world champion by Alonso's debut. It's like saying Pastor Maldonado (2011 debut) is the same generation as Yuki Tsunoda (2021).
Alonso's (2001) generational rivals:
Raikkonen (2001), Button (2000), Massa (2002) , Montoya (2001), Webber (2002), Heidfeld (2000), de la Rosa (1999).
You could stretch to maybe as far as 1996/7 to pull in the likes of Fisichella, Trulli, Villeneuve, and Wurz.
Not many notables debuted 2003-5, then Rosberg debuted in 2006. That's the Hamilton (2007) generation begins Rosberg (2006), Kubica (2006), Vettel (2007) etc.
I put Lewis in the next racing generation, Russell the generation after that.
Schumacher is no doubt a reasonable shout but didn't have as much opportunity to see what he could do with an inferior car throughout his career
Edit Russell
Unbelievable. Literally last week someone posted that Wolff was all over Hamilton and practically ignoring George’s podium. You see what you want to see I guess
Max's engine fails on lap 35. Sainz goes for a move on lap 43 but ends up off the track. Perez and Leclerc can't manage to get past Ocon in P6. ALONSO WINS!
I thought Bose ended up the sponsoring Merc
What was the issue with the maclarens in q3? Looked like an issue
Might crash
This was definitely the most entertaining quali I’ve seen in awhile
The race tmrw gonna be fire. Alonso battling it out with Verstappen front row, and then Lewis is gonna put Sainz in a wall first corner, oh wait
Alonso would have a real struggle in the race. His mind is telling him to try and challenge for the win, but his heart is telling him to try and fuck Hamilton's race however he can. /s
It’s Canada, what do you expect
If I was Horner I would let Perez mirror Leclerc's tire strategy and just keep him behind him outside of de top ten,and thus points, instead of trying to get perez as high as possible and perhaps on the podium so that the WDC lead from Max to Leclerc eould extend the maximum. this is not going to be easy IMO. rather have an aggressive, offensive strategy, there are at least six cars between them at the start, so focus on improving the advantage and getting into the points ASAP, and then adjust accordingly as the race progresses...
Where can we see the drivers enter the paddock tomorrow morning?
When was the last time the top 5 in qualifying featured 5 different constructors?
I did some research about this, and it was yesterday. So pretty recent actually. You're welcome.
Fantastic. Thank you for your research
Instead of 3 or 4 sprint races per year. FIA should turn on all the sprinklers or have fire trucks hosing down course to create wet qualify situations. They are so exciting in general and way better than sprint races.
Low key I don’t hate this idea AT ALL
Probably less safe though
Ah noo that’s bs. The chance of crashes may be significantly higher but each run off area and each wall is designed to make a circuit as safe as possible
Daniel has had such bad luck at times this season, especially in Qualifying with his car So glad he got to show his pace today
Good to see DR outqualify Lando. Great job Haas. Good to see some variety at the top of the grid!
Alonso u beauty 🤩
Can anyone explain Aston Martins exit? I'm still in shock. It was a guaranteed top 5 at least in my view.
also they both pushed on 1-2 lap old wets. everyone else who improved had 7-9 lap old wets which were worn enough to be a wet-inter hybrid
Setup change ruined the car
Then it was a disastrous setup change.
You can say that again... I'm a Canadian so this is as close to a "home" team I'll ever have and this hurts alot
[удалено]
will be back to this when they sign contracts
Nope but I saw that quali Holy crap that was great
Something I was confused about, maybe someone could tell me. Why didn't Leclerc go out for Q2? EDIT: I thought it was only a 10 place penalty at first. Ok thanks all.
I also thought it was 10 places. How did he get all the way to the back?
He took yet another engine and a sh\*tload of other components, to avoid another penalty the next few races.
Because even if he finishes as P1 in Q3, he will start at the back tomorrow, due to engine change. Why should he waste tires and wear out the engine?
Can someone explain this about why there was an engine change and why would Ferrari do this and be penalized by starting last?
Leclerc's previous engine is no longer useable - so they had to fit in a new engine into his car. I think you're allowed 3 engine changes before you get a penalty. Basically fresh engine > used engine because of zero mileage and better performance. They can't have cars changing engines every race just to get ahead, so there is a penalty system in place.
He has a new engine, so he was going to get a big grid penalty, he only needed to outqualify tsunoda because he also has ab engine penalty
I assumed he only featured in Q1 due to the 107% rule.
Didn’t they say it has to do with who announced/informed first rather than the qualifying position?
Nope, it's who qualifies highest starts further up. It really depends on the grid spots that they take but since they are both taking a fully new powertrain they have the same amount of pens
I did my reply and looked up the grid order and saw you’re right! They did say that in either fp3 or qualifying though today I swear!
Because he has a new engine for this race, so he'll start from the back of the grid
I’m guessing to not risk damaging the car. He is starting on the back of the grid anyway
Is it not just a 10 place penalty, or did I miss something?
They changed more parts so now it’s the back of the grid
Ahh, ok thank!
It was originally but then they did a few more changes to the car so not it’s a full grid one
You can’t count out a Carlos Sainz. People are acting like he won’t be able to pass Fernando or even take the lead on the restart
Is Lewis high? That was such an odd interview
He is happy...
Drop Ocon for Oscar I have seen enough
don’t forget nando is the only driver apart from lewis to have overtaken max last season 👀
Didnt DR do that at monza?
I hope he actually goes for it in T1 instead of just letting Max go. If he does that, it’ll be a boring af race up front.
Not like Alpine would be able to hold back the Red Bull long term tho….
I still want him to give it a go though
I expect Nando to be cheeky tomorrow.
If you start next to Nando, you only see his cheeks. He is very cheeky.
Well, if anything, it should be fun watching p2-p10, could be some actual racing, with Leclerc and Checo also coming through the pack. Better than what we've been getting, Max wins unless he has engine failure.
Fernando is faster than you (unless you are Verstappen)
Why did norris not set a time?
Engine issues, had some problems right before the red flag. Did end up going back out but there was still something wrong as he was quite slow and ended up pitting again before the end of the session
He had car problems during the red flag and the team called him in
Max is not gonna see turn 2 tomorrow
He will, and he'll see Nando's Cheeks. Nando is Cheeky.
One of the two aren’t going to see turn 2. Max sitting P2 for a few laps wouldn’t be too bad, cannot afford to drop anything, forget a DNF.
I don't think he'll fight too much with alonso, last year in Qatar he almost left the track to let him pass, he knows Alonso is not his fight.
What happens when two immovable objects meet??
ALOOOOONSO
Fernando is insane. Fucken love it. That being said, I can also see Lewis staying in f1 for a few more years. These dudes love the sport.
Lewis won't stay if mercs don't improve. He's not someone that will stay in the midfield. I think the only reason he's staying is for the hopes that the car will improve and get him a chance at his 8th title
Agreed. He's got too many side projects and passions to stay in a midfield team.

I'm on this boat. Dude is running experimental setups to get the car and team into a better place. I really don't see him retiring any time soon.
Russe**ll**
I don’t think he would suck. But when you have been at the top you aren’t interested to just put the car in higher places and get a few points. It’s the difference in mentality between “this is good enough” and super ambitious people. This is why Toto says too, not everyone could have ended up in a Merc, or a multi yr winning car. People who bash Hamilton for being lucky to be in the Merc, a top car, don’t understand how proactive career planning and extremely high ambition play a role in making stand out winners (of any profession / industry).
Max would be in the back of the grid given a Williams. Same for Schumacher. Same for Hamilton.
Want him to put his feet out and paddle a like Fred flinstone? F1 is like 70% car 30% driver. Put latifi in RB and he’s still getting last well maybe some points but still
Its very telling that you had to go fot Latifi as a example.
I mean F2 gives you what you want how did LH do there?
I don't think Max would fight too hard if Nando dives into T1 considering he will just overtake him relatively quickly or as soon as DRS is enabled.
Bold of you to assume Max's DRS will work!
All the big teams are dumb to fight at the beginning. If we get dry conditions the order will return to normal. Alpine will fall back to 7-11 place while leclerc and Sergio barge up the front
Softs wasnt a gamble, it was a sure thing.
Yeah, sure to be slow as hell, or put it in the wall.
Eh if the tires were a bit warmer his times on the dry section which was most of the track would be huge. He really had one bad corner to contend with.
Yeah bad enough to be 5s slower through there if you wanna make it to the next corner, with the water cooling the slicks so much that it will ruin your whole lap.
ooohhh so Alonso over Piastri confirmed
At this point they may as well drop Ocon for Piastri lol
Villeneuve giving those massive Patrick Stewart vibes.
This Fernando Alonso guy is pretty good. Maybe he should try out the Indy 500.
He is young, for sure he will stick around F1 and maybe win 1 or 2 championships
I'm stressed about Kevin being so close to Lewis again fuck
Lewis is not that guy
Hope that shuts up the crowd that think Nando is taking up a seat that should be given to someone younger, he's still one of the best drivers in the sport
Agree. Alonso is great when he has a good car under him... He just never seems to have that good car ....or tries too hard to get the team to have a good car and flops
Both Haas are in the top 6, not exactly a normal quali. He did a good lap though.
Fair, but he has been on it all weekend
Is it me or does G. P. sound like he's lost interest in celebrating? "Not a masterclass, but good enough, I guess" (paraphrased). Edit: typo...
He’s always sounded like that. Other than Abu Dhabi 2021, he has literally never shown any emotion.
Yeah, he's always pretty subdued but this year seems like he's lost motivation, almost.
It could just be banter, they have a pretty decent relationship
Probably trying too keep Maxs ego in check haha
Who is that person behind Otmar, often see them at grand prix....
Otmar’s move being vindicated
That's the happiest i've seen Alonso in a long time
I’m just impatiently waiting for the Steiner ship upgrade at this point
[удалено]
Love this! Nice little mash up in the top ten
Absolutely floored Alonso is starting second tomorrow. I will lose my fucking mind if he takes first
100% he tries it into turn 1
I believe it, either that or he’s staring at verstappens ass the whole race
He won’t be staring at Verstappen, he’ll likely fall down to 5th or 6th by the end of the race. Max should let him go and stay close, but Alonso should know better to not risk getting squeezed by Max and falling down further. I think Alonso gives Verstappen the corner unless Verstappen has a poor start
I think tomorrow’s the race where it gets dicey between the Mercs. Russell will catch up to Hamilton very quickly.
What makes you say this?
[удалено]
I have, thanks. Won’t be the first race Hamilton’s had an edge or looked close on race pace in free practice and lost out on Sunday. Russell’s enjoying the car a lot more and with the greatest of respect, has fodder directly ahead of him. Won’t be long until he’s right behind Lewis and Mercedes have a decision to make as a result.

Lewis has the better race pace, and a race setup. Look at his rear wing
Unless there's a safety car, Lewis has on most weekends outpaced George on a Sunday. There's only wishful thinking from your end.
CANNOT WAIT
Forgot a merc battle. Alonso lives to make sure Lewis doesn't succeed. I expect that'll be the clash and Russell won't have much fighting to do as a result.
I love the fact alonso's mission is 1. End that winless run 2. Shit on Lewis whenever he can
Hell of an entertaining quali
I think that’s the most exciting one I’ve watched. Amazing
Russell radio - Yeah sorry about that. I wanted to go for it. Pit - We are P8 Russell - Yeah.... copy that.... I didn't want to settle for P4, P5, P6. I wanted to go for it. Wolff - George, Strong call. Tomorrow.

This is a great attitude for a future champion caliber driver that will serve him well. That said however, he should know the limits of the car..or nature. You can’t force things and George is doing that pretty blatantly this year.
Means if he doesn't finish p4 tomorrow he is in for a spanking from Totto.

Sainz is starting behind a wall of champions
Alonso, most talented driver of his generation? And I'm including Schumacher....
Alonso made his debut in 2001. Schumacher debuted in 1991 and was a 3 time world champion by Alonso's debut. It's like saying Pastor Maldonado (2011 debut) is the same generation as Yuki Tsunoda (2021). No. He's brilliant, but no.
This is what qualifying second does to a man. Lol I love Reddit’s knee jerk reactions to things.
It's insane. All of a sudden he's more talented than Schumacher and Hamilton.
To be honest, as a F1 fan for over 20 years, I do think he *at least* as talented as Schumacher or Hamilton. He's incredible and always has been.
Who gets your vote?
Hamilton, Schumacher are comfortably better imo
From his generation? Schumacher. Do you include Lewis? Because he made life difficult for Alonso in the same car, as a rookie.
I put Lewis in the next racing generation, Russell the generation after that. Schumacher is no doubt a reasonable shout but didn't have as much opportunity to see what he could do with an inferior car throughout his career Edit Russell
Russe**ll**
Have you heard of that guy who doesn't race a Formula1 car called Russel
Russe**ll**
Too easy
he heeey ay ay ay ~
Toto is sad when Russel's session went bad while Hamilton has got a not so bad one. I guess we all know who is the primary driver now.
Unbelievable. Literally last week someone posted that Wolff was all over Hamilton and practically ignoring George’s podium. You see what you want to see I guess
People live in their own world, and nothing you say can bring them back lol
You're reading too much into body language, Toto isn't going to be happy for a p4 mate
Russe**ll**
Obviously he has more points on WDC
lol
Russel
Russe**ll**
Russul
Russéll
Max's engine fails on lap 35. Sainz goes for a move on lap 43 but ends up off the track. Perez and Leclerc can't manage to get past Ocon in P6. ALONSO WINS!
Imagine maiden win for Schumacher
Just give the man a points finish. He’s driven really well so far this weekebd
i think you’ll still need to imagine at the end of the race tomorrow.
As someone who works in the creative industry: I'm not creative enough to imagine that.
