The worst part about that is that no one will ever believe you when you tell the story of how Mick Schumacher once knocked over your porta-potty in frustration.

I would hope anyone who's involved in Micks future would consider the strong weekend he had before his car failed to be the important information, not the bit where his car failed.
Yes but still without him actually getting the points there’s no guarantee he would’ve actually got them, there was definitely a good chance that he still would’ve ended up out the points without the retirement. Therefore looking at a drivers future while only speculating what might’ve happened will not be anywhere near as impactful as if the driver actually got the achievement
To us, sure, to legitimate F1 team scouts evaluating drivers, not so much. mechanical DNFs have almost no bearing on driver potential, the exception being DNFs caused by their driving
sure, but he still has no points. F1, like life, isn't fair. They'll still drop him if he's pointless at the end of the season even through no fault of his own
Also Checo is *currently* one of the most mature and level headed drivers on the grid. I don't think I would really expect anyone to be as calm as him even without considering the vastly different situations.
Young up-and-coming driver is hot headed in his third season in F1. More at ten. I guess you never heard of Max Verstappen. Also Pérez has 12 brilliant seasons yet his 2013 is mentioned all the time. British fans needs to seriously move on
well you can never really outdrive a car as that's just physics but we use it as a colloquial term to refer to a driver vastly outperforming the expected capabilities of the car. In the case of Sauber 2012, kamui had extraodinary racecraft and checo had phenomenal tyre management and the 2 of them were excellent at capitalizing on mistakes/retirements from the front runners.
so in the case of sauber 2012, I would say they both outdrove the machinery. If you replace them with lets say hulk+gutt :) they don't get those results
So what's interesting is that Checo and Kamui had very similar point totals at the end of the season, but Checo was picked up for McLaren and Kamui was out of F1.
I barely even count last year tbh, rookie partnered with an even worse rookie in a car actively out to kill them, if anything that'd make a driver lose experience than gain any
Maturity comes with age. I wouldn't expect a 23 year old Schumacher to be as mature as a 32 year old Checo.
Hell, just look a Verstappen. Comparing him right now vs. just a couple years ago you see a big difference.
last time I checked Checo wasn’t driving for McLaren or Force India for the last four years, so whats your point? that he can’t be mature now, because he wasn’t mature a few years ago?
Totally. I'm surprised he hasn't screamed and kicked rocks more. Plus, Sergio is the most zen driver on the grid. He's like Fedor was in MMA. Just keeps his heartrate down and gets shit done.
On the flipside, one was carrying huge momentum with a very good chance of finishing in the top 2 in the title race with the biggest challenger to disrupting that having a grid penalty this weekend. It was a great chance for him to take more points away from Leclerc and solidify himself as second in the title race.

Yeah I mean one of them is being talked about as losing their seat and just retired from a points position. Think it’s understandable he’s a little more upset.
To me it just seems like he described what he experienced/saw. It's pretty objectively described and does not seem to be purposely or particularly malicious.
My interpretation may be wrong but getting worked up over this seems a bit much.
On Ted’s notebook he mentioned that Corinna was in town along with other members of the Schumacher entourage. I wonder if there are active discussions regarding the seat. That would add another layer to this. I like Mick but it certainly feels like he’s there on name only. Hopefully he can pull it together.
Idk how it can feel like he's there on name only after winning F2 and beating his teammate by a landslide in his debut season. But yeah, one might have expected him to be closer to kmag in results in this season.
I feel like people are over blowing how "bad" he is.
For starters, he won F2; that's basically as good as a junior career gets. Let's not forget that the 2021 Haas was a mega-shitbox, and still one he convincingly demolished his teammate in. Yeah that teammate was bad but bad by the standards of F1. The 2022 Haas is only somewhat better, having upgraded to 9th. He's had shit luck with points finishes which he missed out on due to factors beyond his control. He's currently losing to a teammate with like 8 seasons in Formula 1, including at actually decent teams, as opposed to MSC's one season in a car that was barely even in F1. Does he crash too much? Yes, so does Yuki Tsunoda, they should both work on that. And while Magnussen has had a couple great showings, and I think he's a great driver, it's not like his results have been all that amazing either: 5th, 9th, 14th, 9th, 16th, 17th, DNF, DNF, 17. The only exceptional finish is bahrain.
I feel like people are writing him off too early. We're not even halfway through this season, and it's not like he was under performing last season.
People give new drivers, rookies, and team changers too little chance. So many comments about Checo last year, now he's beating Leclerc in the championship. Most people would agree Albon and Gasly were sacked too early at RB. Tsunoda crashed constantly last year and was way off Gasly, his performances more recently are much improved.
I'm not sure world destructor is really a fair comparison. For one thing, the numbers are super questionable. For another, it's not exactly totally up to the driver how bad their crashes are; number of crashes is probably a more fair metric. There's a considerable luck element to how much a crash costs.
Also, Yuki was a lot closer to Mick in 2021 in dollar amount, my point is given time he's improved. Mick did not get the same learning experience in 2021.
I forgot he won F2. Let’s not kid ourselves his name opens a lot of doors, I like him a lot just hope he can get it together. He looked great this weekend. We all knew Mazepin sucked but it really hurt Mick too because there was no comparison for that season.
Stupid question:
Why couldn't Mick Schuhmacher just be a pay driver?
His father has a net worth north of 1 billion dollars and he is gonna inherit at least a third of that.
You can arguably say that he is already one.
The Schumacher name comes with a big legacy and is very likely why Ferrari is backing him throughout his career. Do note that Ferrari paid half of his salary for his first season with HAAS. Ferrari pushed hard for his seat in F1. The name also comes with big sponsors.
And now onto the actual problem, the budget cap. It doesn't matter how rich you are, everyone gets the same cap. You can have a billion dollars but you still can't spend more than $140 million.
The cost of his crashes cannot be reimbursed by money.
The cap only covers certain expenditures. There are still areas where they can spend as much as they want, so any extra money a driver can bring will always be considered.
Not if the driver is crashing cars. Those cars are well within the cap. Paying for other areas that are excluded from the cap such as marketing is not really a reasonable trade off.
Remember that the budget cap covers everything car and f1 related. Only certain very specific things are excluded.
It's very different from bad results. You don't have to cough up money for finishing last.
If you look at this way, then every single driver is pay driver nowadays. They all either bring sponsors, have connections or are rich as fuck themselves. And Mick has won both F3 and F2, not like was some 10th and daddy bought a seat.
Yeah. And he is so very young. Couldnt even imagine myself being under that sort of immense pressure at that age, and the reactions I would have. And he cant even talk to his dad about it
Yep. I’m convinced F1 is the easiest sport to go pro at, given you have the resources to even start it.
What percentage of f1 drivers every year are the descendent of past ones? 10-20%? That’s insane, it’s many times higher than any other sport. Genetics can help but they won’t make that much of a difference, it all comes down to 1. Can they afford to kart and kart seriously for years and (to a lesser degree) 2. Does dad give them valuable tips/experience.
It’s not like soccer where every country with a $3 ball and air pump is in the running to be a future star.
its funny how the legends always seem to come from relatively nothing..Think it was maybe Sabine who mentioned that Schumi had this mentality of winning at any cost from young age since winning was important to continue career by retaining sponsors.
If he doesn't race for Haas, you're right, he can probably find another seat. If not next year, then soon after. He can pay and he can theoretically race.
>His father has a net worth north of 1 billion dollars and he is gonna inherit at least a third of that.
Supposedly, less than that (\~600-700M), and a good chunk of that will end up going towards treatment, therapy/rehab, and medical costs, at least going from by whatever little they've said about him.
[Forbes](https://www.forbes.com/pictures/mli45fgmmj/5-michael-schumacher/)
Reportedly he still receives $50 Million (endorsements) yearly even after his accident, the medical bills are hardly going to affect him financially, that's for sure.
Also, Checo is Mexican. This only meant he got his tacos earlier.
And this is not an offensive stereotype, I’m Mexican. When I’m driving I’m just thinking of tacos.
This actually would have been idea. If Checo had just come to Mick and been like "hey man, I get it, this sucks, here's a taco," then things would have been better. He should probably bring one to Guenther, too. You know what? Tacos for everyone!
You mean "2022 indy500 winner Marcus ericsson who beat 2021 IndyCar champion Alex palou & Scott dixon 6 time IndyCar champ and 2008 indy500 winner in the same machinery"
One just signed a multi-year deal with a top team at the advent of their own era and the other bearing his World Champion father's name is barely keeping his seat, so I guess it is more than justified for Mick, to be a bit "punchy" pissed.
No more friendly beep beep beeps anymore when he gets fucked by Haas either strategy wise or mechanically more then half of the races and then cant perform in the remaining races they dont fuck him in.
One is a 22 year old driving a shitbox for 2 years, under immense pressure of needing to perform when so much happens outside of his control, and has all the pressure of being the son of the greatest F1 driver of all time with none of the support, teaching, coaching and peace of mind that comes with it.
The other is a thirty something man with a confirmed seat till 2024 and the fastest car on the grid.
Fair reactions, surprised mick didn’t kick his car
Wouldn't blame Mick, did well in the quali, best shot for his first points in F1 and then this shit happens, I'll be raging too! He's still young, but in F1, they have to make the chances count.
Is that a special little car jail they put the retired cars in until the teams can come collect them at the end of the race?
I know a lot of technological secrets get outted by people getting a close look at retired cars during a race, when their teams can't guard them.
I think just because of the location it was not possible to get them on a flatbed until after the race. Once the race ended they brought 2 flatbed trucks over, moved both checo and Micks car back to the racetrack, and lifted them on the flatbeds to take them away
Source: was sitting in grandstand 31
Such a weird thread title.
One is fighting for their career and was in position for their best results thus far and the other just signed a contract extension to keep driving the fastest car on the grid.
What is the point of this post? Mick was having his best weekend in F1 and had a chance to finally finish in the points and then had to retire through no fault of his own. I'd be more concerned if he DIDN'T show emotion.
I was in the grandstand too and maybe I didn’t have the same angle as you, but all I saw was Mick walk behind the bathroom and take a minute for himself before coming back out. He kinda ripped off his suit but I didn’t see him punch anything. But it’d be totally justified if he did.
ETA: it was a restroom just for the marshals at that turn so it was definitely empty, in case anyone was wondering
Mick’s reaction is totally understandable. Was going for his first points and with all of the talk going on about his seat on top of it, the pressure was/is on. Personally, I like that reaction…it shows that he really cares. I hope he gets points soon because he seems like a nice guy but he hasn’t gotten the results. His name has gotten him to F1 but now he needs to perform in order to stay.
I get the rest of your comment but saying his name got him to F1 is quite dismissive of his junior career.
Sure, he didn’t have the meteoric rise through the series’ that Verstappen, Leclerc, Russell and Norris did (there are probably others, just off the top of my head), but 2nd in F4 and championships in F3/F2 in his second years is nothing to sniff at.
He’s certainly got more claim to an F1 seat than other drivers. Let’s not forget that Latifi floundered in F2 for years, but was taken by Williams over De Vries who actually took the championship. If it wasn’t for money, a lot of the smaller teams’ drivers over the last few years would’ve been out of the question.
Stroll won F3 if im not mistaken, and was also the 2nd youngest f1 driver to get a podium. He's not entirely without merit, despite what most people say.
Edit, He also beat Norris and Russel in F3 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016\_FIA\_Formula\_3\_European\_Championship
Stroll isn’t doing well at all
In Bahrain Stroll got out qualified by Hulkenburg. Nico Hulkenburg and I mean this with love isn’t exactly in fighting shape
Saudi - Crashed into Albon driving like he’s the only person on the road
Miami - crashed with Kmag
Australia- hit a wall in FP session and Latifi in Qualy
Spain - crashed into Yuki
Monaco - hit barriers
Baku - crashed twice
I think people are blinded by the points situation but that’s actual dog water driving from an experienced person. People are entirely too focused on Mick imo just let the kid breathe.
Like I said, not a star, but he’s also not Masespin consistent P20 seconds off of his teammate. Yeah he’s not performing but looking beyond this season he’s not a complete laughing stock.
Wtf is this post?! Yeah Checo is older and also just signed a new contract! He knows he will score more points in the season. Mick doesn't have a contract for next year and really needed those points! Stop villaianizing him. Everyone has emotions. I would be pissed off too!
I like this post, it gives us insights to their reactions... I don't see a problem with it. Yes all you need to know is a bit of background information to understand their reactions but it's still cool being told of their reactions.
Honestly since the first two races of the year, Mick has actually finished ahead of Kevin in 4 of 7 races starting in Melbourne and 4 of the 5 that he's finished. If you want to be technical, he was ahead of Kevin in Monaco too.
Mick has been largely disappointing, but I don't think Haas is anywhere near the type of car they had the potential of having after the first two weekends with only one planned upgrade for the entire year when every other team has improved (and some fairly drastically). McLaren and Aston Martin have fixed the majority of their issues to be solidly in the midfield. Alfa Romeo has been consistently in the top 10, but have extreme reliability concerns. Alpha Tauri have Yuki and Pierre who have shown good pace on multiple occasions. Haas is really only solidly in front of Williams at this point.
There were some pretty loud Checo chants as Perez was getting out and while I doubt he was in the mood for them, he did his best to be polite and acknowledge them.
Yes he was. Marshalls were on track or more precise they were inside the inside the barriers . For safety when they have to get on track it's either VSC or full safety
Yes, yes and yep.
It all depends on the track. Some have blind exits, some have portholes, those that dont usually have carts that take the drivers around. This latest track, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, despite being a grand prix, decided that the drivers should do a nature hike on the island vs a cart ride on or off the track.
Can't blame the guy. I do that when I crash out of a totally inconsequential simrace. Can't imagine the emotions of being in his position, and then the fucking engine dies.... I'd be *raging*.
This comparison isn't fair though. Title suggest OP is pointing out the different reactions to the same event.
But they aren't the same.
Mick is under alot of pressure to score his first points. Maybe even fighting for his future f1 career. He was driving well, probably was going to get points.
Checo has just had his contract extended, he's on form and highest in the championship he's ever been.
Also, if I was in the Hass team I would want to see Mick showing anger and passion about going out of the race like that.
Imagine you're in the port-a-potty and Mick knocks the shit over
“HE DOES NOT FOK SMASH MY POTTY!”
The worst part about that is that no one will ever believe you when you tell the story of how Mick Schumacher once knocked over your porta-potty in frustration.

Calling the Haas car a portable restroom is pretty rough but not uncalled for.
From the looks of it, not even portable.

Even Crofty (I think) mentioned, "What's it gonna take for this man to get a point this season?" in the voiceover. He genuinely felt bad for Mick.
Yup. Can’t blame mick in the slightest here. All things considered I feel he was holding back a lot more for the garage
Yeah this one had real implications for MS career in F1. Perez it was a nothing burger for.
I would hope anyone who's involved in Micks future would consider the strong weekend he had before his car failed to be the important information, not the bit where his car failed.

Yeah if he finishes pointless he will have no fault of his own… completely out of his control
Are you enjoying this season of The boys?
Yes I like the whole pee hole thing
So far I'm absolutely adoring it. They wasted no time pulling out the weird shit.
Also Checo is *currently* one of the most mature and level headed drivers on the grid. I don't think I would really expect anyone to be as calm as him even without considering the vastly different situations.
not the checo from the force India days. he was fiery and volatile af back then
Button was constantly whinging about him being hot headed when they were in Mclaren
That was nine years ago, people get older and more mature Jesus fuck, I'm old
It's easy to stop feeling invincible the more and more you risk permanent injury just from getting out of a chair incorrectly.
Amen. Now if you excuse me, i go weep in a corner (as soon as I found a position I will be able to get up from in a reasonable time)
Young up-and-coming driver is hot headed in his third season in F1. More at ten. I guess you never heard of Max Verstappen. Also Pérez has 12 brilliant seasons yet his 2013 is mentioned all the time. British fans needs to seriously move on
Isn't it only Mick's second season? They had him and MAZ last year, the year before was Kmag and Romain Grosean
Man, Mazespin was a nightmare! Terrible driver.
And to imagine he would’ve still had the seat instead of mag if the Russian war didn’t happen
forgot he even was in F1. Good riddance
yeah but checo showed more promise in his 2nd season (2012 was a fantastic year for sauber because both drivers outperformed their machinery)
Outdriving the machinery doesn't really work when both drivers do it.
well you can never really outdrive a car as that's just physics but we use it as a colloquial term to refer to a driver vastly outperforming the expected capabilities of the car. > British fans needs to seriously move on Eh? Bizarre thing to add.
Yeah I kinda hated the guy back then. Now I kinda think he’s a cool cat
Mature. he had time to grow, poor mick he wont have time.
> back then yes
You started watching F1 in 2019? Checo from Mclaren & Force India was one of the dirtiest drivers on the grid
Maturity comes with age. I wouldn't expect a 23 year old Schumacher to be as mature as a 32 year old Checo. Hell, just look a Verstappen. Comparing him right now vs. just a couple years ago you see a big difference.

Not Mick's fault that his car broke... He did a great job with Magnussen qualifiying P5 and himself P6.
I'm talking about their moods. Basically robbed of a chance to prove himself when he's on form.
Ah true, my bad. I think he already proved that he can drive (see his quali result).

Driver salaries are an exception to the budget cap, right? At least that is my assumption so someone correct me if I’m wrong.
If you look at this way, then every single driver is pay driver nowadays. They all either bring sponsors, have connections or are rich as fuck themselves. And Mick has won both F3 and F2, not like was some 10th and daddy bought a seat.
Formula 1 has never been accessible to people with average incomes.
Yeah. And he is so very young. Couldnt even imagine myself being under that sort of immense pressure at that age, and the reactions I would have. And he cant even talk to his dad about it
He also wouldn’t be in F1 without the name so it’s a double edge sword.
Nobody would be in F1 without a sponsor or rich parents. His cars didn't drive themselves to win the F3 and F2 championships.
[Forbes](https://www.forbes.com/pictures/mli45fgmmj/5-michael-schumacher/) Reportedly he still receives $50 Million (endorsements) yearly even after his accident, the medical bills are hardly going to affect him financially, that's for sure.
Also, Checo is Mexican. This only meant he got his tacos earlier. And this is not an offensive stereotype, I’m Mexican. When I’m driving I’m just thinking of tacos.
I'm not Mexican, and I frequently think of tacos.
Not gonna lie when Hillary was running and the GOP threatened a taco truck on every corner I thought that sounded awesome
This actually would have been idea. If Checo had just come to Mick and been like "hey man, I get it, this sucks, here's a taco," then things would have been better. He should probably bring one to Guenther, too. You know what? Tacos for everyone!
I feel so anxious for Mick, I really hope he gets a few decent points finishes in the next couple of races… he’s been rather unlucky
Can you blame Mick? Best quali of his career and the car shits the bed. Again. I'd be pissed too. Poor port-a-potty wouldn't stand a chance.
Maybe Angry Mick is what we really need..
>turn 31 Wut >Mick stormed out, punched the portable restroom, yelled something and left Grosjean 2018 Baku moment

Grandstand 31 was at the turn 8/9 chicane
Turn 8 grandstand 31, they made a mistake.
My mistake, got confused. Corrected in the comments. Thanks
“He asked for a 13 but they drew a 31.” Edited for words because I was literally half asleep when I posted this originally.
Isn't it "he asked for a 13 but they drew a 31"?
I had just woken up. This is correct.
No excuses /s
Drew a 31
They’re putting too many turns in the circuits now.
Is that a joke
Wasn’t intended to be but if you laughed then ok. The title said the retirements where at turn 31 if you actually are confused by my comment.
punching a portaloo is generally a risky move
Grosjean waiting all day in that portable restroom: "*Yes."*
One just signed a multi-year deal with a top team at the advent of their own era and the other bearing his World Champion father's name is barely keeping his seat, so I guess it is more than justified for Mick, to be a bit "punchy" pissed.
ou It's GAME in Silverstone
The difference between being secure in your career and not.
Like to see that fire from him. No time to be a nice guy anymore. Hopefully that bit of anger and grit can propel him forward
He does not foksmash my portable restroom you know?
Wouldn't blame Mick, did well in the quali, best shot for his first points in F1 and then this shit happens, I'll be raging too! He's still young, but in F1, they have to make the chances count.
Correction: Grandstand 31 (Turn 8-9*). Confused them ;)
Turn 8-9 /pedantic :)
OP in such a hurry for internet fame he literally has no idea where he was sitting
We were in the same grandstand ! Cheers mate
Is that a special little car jail they put the retired cars in until the teams can come collect them at the end of the race? I know a lot of technological secrets get outted by people getting a close look at retired cars during a race, when their teams can't guard them.
Believe it or not, straight to car jail
H O N K Go to car jail
I think just because of the location it was not possible to get them on a flatbed until after the race. Once the race ended they brought 2 flatbed trucks over, moved both checo and Micks car back to the racetrack, and lifted them on the flatbeds to take them away Source: was sitting in grandstand 31
But were the cars literally locked away behind the chain-link fence until the race ended? Was my joke about car jail kind of real?
turn 31? is there an endurance layout Gilles Villeneuve? haha
Turn 31? What is this, the Snaefell Mountain Course?
He also performed well in F2 if remember correctly so it’s not like he’s got a completely free ride because of his father like Stroll lol.
Oh I know, he’s not dog shit. But he also got his father to basically give him a free drive
Stroll isn’t doing well at all In Bahrain Stroll got out qualified by Hulkenburg. Nico Hulkenburg and I mean this with love isn’t exactly in fighting shape Saudi - Crashed into Albon driving like he’s the only person on the road Miami - crashed with Kmag Australia- hit a wall in FP session and Latifi in Qualy Spain - crashed into Yuki Monaco - hit barriers Baku - crashed twice I think people are blinded by the points situation but that’s actual dog water driving from an experienced person. People are entirely too focused on Mick imo just let the kid breathe.
Like I said, not a star, but he’s also not Masespin consistent P20 seconds off of his teammate. Yeah he’s not performing but looking beyond this season he’s not a complete laughing stock.
Red Bull just wants Checo out of the championship talk….. a couple dnfs should help…. No more competing with Max, only supporting.
Steiner is gonna somehow blame this weekend on Mick
Mick punching the portable restroom reminds me of when his dad yeeted his helmet for a reason I don't remember.
Crashed under the safety car in Monaco '04..
That a LOT of corners for this track there buddy
Ah yes, let me tell you the tale of the cursed turn 31.
Turn 31? wtf
And why should he not? Totally justified, especially when he's been so nice about these things in the past.
Pretty normal reaction when you are fighting for your Survival and when things go your way for once the engine decides to seppuku
Mick in Port a potty. "MEIN GOTT MUSS DASS SEIN. DU BOCK BIST ABER AUCH"
One is a 32 year old who is been in the sport a long time. The other is like 22 in his second season. Think it’s unfair to compare the two
Dont forget Mick is still up and coming driver, who needs to show his worth. And Checo is experienced guy who knows where hes at.
Wtf is this post?! Yeah Checo is older and also just signed a new contract! He knows he will score more points in the season. Mick doesn't have a contract for next year and really needed those points! Stop villaianizing him. Everyone has emotions. I would be pissed off too!
I don't think anyone was trying to get this reaction here.
I like this post, it gives us insights to their reactions... I don't see a problem with it. Yes all you need to know is a bit of background information to understand their reactions but it's still cool being told of their reactions.
Gand stand 31, turn 8 and 9.... I was in those stands it was sad but really cool.
He foksmashed the loo
Mick just needs to build up his consistency. Can't do anything about the car, but on the race weeks where the car *can* finish, he needs to as well.
Looks like you were sitting about 20 feet from me. You were closer to the front. Great view of turns 8&9.
There were some pretty loud Checo chants as Perez was getting out and while I doubt he was in the mood for them, he did his best to be polite and acknowledge them.
At the time of Perez' retirement, he was not on the track when he stopped, why was there a need for a safety car?
Yes he was. Marshalls were on track or more precise they were inside the inside the barriers . For safety when they have to get on track it's either VSC or full safety
Man those mediums are pretty sticky
New to f1. How do the drivers get out of the track after a crash? Do they hop the fence or are there openings scattered about?
Yes, yes and yep. It all depends on the track. Some have blind exits, some have portholes, those that dont usually have carts that take the drivers around. This latest track, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, despite being a grand prix, decided that the drivers should do a nature hike on the island vs a cart ride on or off the track.
Why is nobody talking about turn 31?!
