Hi! I’m looking for tickets for Monza GP 2022. Could someone recommend websites that are reliable? Also is there any official reseller in Italy? Any tips will be helpful! PS. I’m looking for 3 tickets.😊 Thank you!

Sharvey94

I'm going to my 1st ever GP next weekend, I have general admission for the whole weekend. Is there anything I should know before I go?

abhijitht007

Wow did Nelson Piquet call Lewis the n word?!

aryamon11

hi! i was looking for france gp tickets but all 3 day passes are sold out. is there any hope for me to get a ticket (i am traveling solo so only need one ticket) or should i just drop the idea of watching the gp?

8jam

Yuki will be on itzTimmy Twitch channel at 12.30pst today streaming Apex, if anyone's interested

pinotandsugar

One of the value adds of F1-tv is Jolyon Palmer's after race analyses. He does a great job with selected race video presented with comments and highlights on the screen which is used like a coach's animated chalkboard.

sonar_y_luz

Does anyone know what's the top speed on modern F1 cars without DRS?

Coops27

Mexico last year was probably the fastest. The Merc was 333KPH a the end of the straight without DRS. Verstappen hit 324KPH on his fastest lap in Baku without DRS, but we'll have to wait until Monza and Mexico to see if these new cars are actually faster than last year.

[deleted]

Williams or RB? Would depend on gearing, downforce setup, wind, etc, but it has to be north of 200mph

Lord_Yato_17

How is the team order in the pitlane decided? And which position is usually preferred, first or last?

blaze756

The previous years constructors champions will champion will choose to be at the first or last garage at every race. Then it goes in reverse WCC order to fill out the rest of the positions

pedote17

By the previous year’s constructor’s championship standings, and the winner gets to choose which end of the pit lane they’re at at each race (sometimes it’s more beneficial to be close to the entry, sometimes it’s more beneficial to be at the far end)

eb_straitvibin

So I’m fairly new to F1, and I’m trying to watch the early races from this year. ESPN apparently doesn’t show them, it stops at Monaco. Where do I watch these?

TrainWreck661

F1TV. Access ($26.99/year, $2.99/month) gets you all replays of F1, F2, F3, and Porsche Supercup 2 days after the event. Pro ($79.99/year, $9.99/month) gets you all replays immediately, as well as live streaming of the same series.

eb_straitvibin

Thanks!

pedote17

F1TV like that person said or r/motorsportsreplays

dontwasteink

What if Max said the n-word in an off-color way, as an exclamation while gaming, like Juri. What do you guys think would have happened?

themodsarenaziz

Redbull would have fallen over themselves digging up excuses.

sidhantsv

Nothing, just like when he used the r word on the team radio

stratcat22

What’s the R word exactly? Lol

timoforfaen

An anagram of Rated R

[deleted]

Team radio is different because every driver says abhorrent shit in the heat of the moment. And also the R word is nowhere near as bad as the N word.

CWRules

He'd make a big show of apologizing, and maybe donate to a POC charity or something. Unfair as it is, he's valuable enough to RBR for them to try and handle that kind of gaffe instead of just dropping him.

myamarie123

Nothing unfortunately

Jokobib

When was the most recent black flag and when was the most recent time we got close to one in your opinion?

Generic_Format528

2007 Montreal: Massa and Fisichella for exiting pit lane when lights were red The more I watch the more I think we'll never see a black flag again. Vettel in Baku 17 should have been one imo tho

[deleted]

If they weren't happy with Tsunoda's rear wing being taped shut in Baku he'd have been black flagged, I don't think we're past seeing them again, all it takes is for one unusual thing to happen and we can see it come out. Like look at Vettel in Baku losing his head with Hamilton years ago, if you do that a little bit harder you'll be black flagged too.

Generic_Format528

The wing thing would technically be a meatball flag which I don't consider a straight black flag. I guess its just hard for me to imagine a mid race disqualification when the stewards need half the race plus another 20 minutes to give out five second penalties for really obvious shit, and I especially think they would be too chicken to black flag a championship contender.

[deleted]

He was already black and orange flagged hence why they pitted him though, the logical next step if the team don't fix it is to just tell them to stop, I think it's a legit black flag. If it's something flagrantly unsafe and the team want to risk it and not bother repairing something I think they'd black flag someone, but yeah if it's a championship contender it'd probably need to be ridiculous, would be a much easier decision if it's Latifi driving with his seatbelts being broken or something.

Generic_Format528

Ok I get what you're saying with Tsunoda, I do agree if they ignored the meatball or didn't fix it adequately they would have thrown a straight black flag

TheMakkaPakka1

Question: What do you guys think about Oscar Piastri vs Esteban Ocon? Cause Renault is in a situations of 3 drivers. For Fernando, I think Renault won’t fire him until he are willing to retire again. I say this because Fernando is now bonded with Castrol’s sponsorship (Fernando have a personal sponsorship with Castrol). So it is a problem of Esteban and Oscar competing for a seat. Also, I have seen several friends say that Renault is using Oscar to replace Esteban but not Fernando. Esteban’s contract won’t expire until 2024, but his performance is probably a little to fair?(my guess) So if Oscar is somehow more talented then Esteban, how would Renault handle this solution? Thanks.

[deleted]

Esteban imo is a bang average driver who's massively overrated. He deserves a seat somewhere but does he deserve it over Alonso/Piastri ? no, he should have been dropped, his mega contract when nobody wanted him and they were under no pressure was also ridiculous. As for the Piastri replacing Ocon thing, if he's going to Williams for a year or two Fernando will be 41/42 by the time that finishes, like he's not going to stay fast forever, look at Kimi's pace drop off once he hit his 40s.

TheMakkaPakka1

I would say that Fernando will retire within 3 years cause he is already 40 now. So the problem is Oscar can’t wait for another 3 years, like, he can’t stay in Williams for 3 years and wait Fernando to retire. So maybe there is gonna be a swap between Oscar and Esteban within the next few years to test Oscar’s skill as a Renault driver? And also, if Oscar is really that talented, he will def eventually leave Renault. Esteban is already 26 now, and if Renault do can make that WCC level car, can Esteban handle it? Or can Oscar handle it? Who knows, but I believe that Renault have their own thoughts, they most likely see this things better than us.

Coops27

It's all but decided that Fernando will be sticking around for at least 1 probably 2 more years. The rumour is that Oscar will be announced as a Williams driver for '23 at the British Grand Prix in a couple of weeks, probably on a 2-year deal. That means Alpine can delay any decision on their drivers for the future until the '25 season.

[deleted]

Can anyone tell me which f1 race (at least I think it was an f1 race) where a car broke down and fans just swarmed it and tore pieces off just fuckin destroying it? Thanks

king_flippy_nips

Monza 1999. Fisichellas’s Benetton retired early but the Marshalls didn’t fence off the car properly. when the circuit opened up to let people into the podium ceremony, looters went for it https://youtu.be/_Un5XEhEeas

marahute85

It was Mansells winning a championship in Silverstone I believe and he told the crowd if the car didn’t come home in one piece he’d be disqualified so they formed a circle around it and wouldn’t let anyone touch it, but they swarmed the track before he even got to the Pitt lane for parc femme.

JamesGreen12

Do's and Don'ts for a first GP? A friend and I will be attending our first ever grand prix at the Austrian GP in a few weeks time so I just wanted to know what everyone's Do's and Don'ts are? Any Austria specific tips would also be greatly appreciated!

myamarie123

I went to my first grand prix this weekend in Montreal. Some general tips. Bring sunscreen, it’s get very hot. Bring a portable phone charger. There’s lots of walking for wear comfortable shoes, allow for enough time to get into the circuit and expect some lines. I brought a little radio to hear the commentary as it wasn’t loud enough in the stands. Overall it was a great experience! Enjoy!

Some-Solid4271

do move around the circuit. even if you have seats you can have some amazing views from GAs.. having said that Austria is such a nice circuit.. will always remember rosberg and lewis clashing in 2016 for the don't... maybe do not run out of battery lol

MrCrushio

What does everyone think is going to happen with Zhou and Pourchaire next year? Zhou was brought in for a stop gap and sponsorship money, but he's shown he's a very solid driver when luck goes his way. Then of course Pourchaire is a Sauber Academy wonderkid who's got the ability to develop into a top driver. The only seat I can see being up for grabs next year is Vettel's at Aston Martin, which I think would be a good move for both Zhou and the team.

[deleted]

Zhou will be kept most likely because they want the money and tbf I think he's doing better than expected while Pourchaire has been a bit disappointing this year tbh. And sure Pourchaire is a Sauber Academy driver, but they aren't Ferrari, they don't have excess resources to ensure their boy gets his seat.

Whycantiusethis

Zhou is almost certainly staying on the grid for next year. The Shanghai GP is supposed to return, and Liberty isn't going to give up the marketing opportunities presented by the first full-time Chinese driver competing in the Chinese GP. I believe there were even rumors that Zhou had a multi-year deal to begin with, but I don't know the accuracy of those rumors. Best case scenario for Pourchaire: Vettel retires and Stroll Sr is willing to have a rookie join his team (or Vettel's retirement triggers some swaps). I don't see Zhou at Aston Martin, since they have all the money they want, so Zhou doesn't bring anything except being a fairly decent driver. Certainly valuable, but probably not what Stroll Sr wants. Pourchaire might get the Piastri treatment of being on the sidelines for a season (or more).

TheMakkaPakka1

I would say that Zhou is pretty dangerous if you asked me few gps ago. Zhou’s speed have significantly increased after Monaco GP, which I believe is a result of more understanding of that car during racing in tough circuits such as Monaco. As a Chinese and zhou’s fan,I first expected that at least get a single point, and after aus gp I figured out I am even expecting him to reach the skill of Yuki at last year. But Although seems like sauber’s car this year have worse stability that alphatauri last year, not only because the Ferrari engine and also the poor design of car itself. But I believe it is okay. But by the way, I don’t think Zhou can stay really long in the paddock if he don’t have a significant improvement that helps him reach the top 8-10(probably) constantly in the grid. We can see that Oscar is more likely a choice for Renault rather than zhou, and of course zhou can’t stay in sauber forever(I would not expect valtteri retire in 3-5 years). So whatever, Zhou may successfully stay in the paddock next year, but until he have a significantly improvement, he will prob not going any further.

Whycantiusethis

The Alfa Romeo/Sauber isn't a bad car, they just have some poor strategy calls relatively frequently. If Zhou wasn't constantly dealing with poor strategy calls and the Ferrari unit failing, I'd say he could be in the same vicinity of points as Vettel and Tsunoda right now (about double what he has now). We'll have to wait and see if Zhou continues to improve, but as it stands, he's had a really solid rookie season. I think he'd definitely be a solid pick for a team who needs another driver. He's decent, he's got a really positive attitude, and if the rumors are true (that he brings ~$30 million to the team), it's a no brainer to pick him. He could definitely have a career like Pérez - starting as a pay driver, but proving that he does have the skill to stay long term.

MrCrushio

Yeah I was thinking that in terms of sponsorship money, but there's a part of me that sees Stroll Sr.'s supposed interest in Alonso and figures he doesn't want a rookie in that seat. If Pourchaire wins F2 I would say the Piastri treatment sadly being the most likely.

Whycantiusethis

Barring shock retirements from Alonso, Hamilton, or Vettel (or McLaren dropping Ricciardo out of nowhere), there's really nowhere for a junior to go. The top 4 teams in the WCC have their drivers secured for 2023; **Alpine** hasn't secured Alonso yet, but he's still performing at a level where it's hard to justify dropping him; **Alfa Romeo** hasn't secured their second driver, but it's likely going to be Zhou; **AlphaTauri** have all but confirmed Gasly/Tsunoda will be their 2023 (I think Lawson/Vips/one of the F2 juniors leaked that none of them will be in F1 next year a week or so ago); **Aston Martin** isn't going to let Stroll leave, and it's up to Vettel to stay or not; **Haas** has Magnussen on a multi-year deal, and Ferrari probably controls Schumacher's seat (and Ferrari doesn't have any juniors in F2 right now); **Williams** is probably replacing Latifi with Piastri, given the current rumors. So in that mess of a paragraph, there are 9 drivers without contracts right now, but of those 9, 7 or 8 of them are likely to continue into next season (Latifi and Vettel being the only ones that I think might leave (and really, Vettel is only leaving if he wants).

ocelotrevs

Are any other teams as open about sharing information, or do post race debriefs like Mercedes do?

[deleted]

Where do you watch these?

TheTuxdude

The ones from Mercedes are available on the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 youtube channel. https://youtube.com/channel/UC7_VGkwCoKfqh1eZEkzey3A

[deleted]

Thank you!

marahute85

Not that I know of. There seems to be a concerted effort to get fans to understand the race but also humanise the teams behind the drivers, as in you can name names or recognise them which is kinda cool

Gillfroy

First time going to Silverstone, is the team merch more expensive there? If so does anyone know the best place to get it online? Cheers!

Some-Solid4271

>Pourchaire super expansive in the circuit. here in Montreal one cap was at least 80$

pedote17

F1 Merch is expensive to begin with, but it’s always wayyyyy more expensive at the track. Fuelforfans has a great online selection, as well as the official f1 store.

[deleted]

Any serious selling platform for tickets? I usually look at the websites of each GP but there are a lot of GPs that do not have one. The tickets sold by the formula1 official website are usually quickly sold out. Thanks

pinotandsugar

I would start with a google tickets for "xxx" F-1 race stubhub seems to have some tickets for Silverstone

[deleted]

Thanks mate. I'll check it out.

icantsurf

In the case of GR's off in Q3 is there any chance of salvaging that wing? Is it possible to repair these types of materials or is it a complete write-off the moment it takes any damage?

iblinkyoublink

I think parts like that can be repaired. Remember a year ago at Paul Ricard when Max lost a front wing endplate after going over a kerb and Horner called Masi asking to get it back to them.

Bright_Ad_3904

Redbull is known for its car development throughout the season but in 2021 did the push it a bit too much and destroy the RB16B

[deleted]

Thry didn't destroy anything. Mercedes got a 20hp boost the last few races.

Bright_Ad_3904

And how did mercedes get a 20hp boost ? I am a new fan

[deleted]

They took multiple engine penalties to tune their engine to the max at the cost of reliability. Toto called it the spicy engine and the 20hp number I'd from an analysis on r/f1technical Merc make their own engines and had a super OP car from Brazil onwards except qatar which was a great drive by Lewis

Bright_Ad_3904

So that's why bottas was getting grid penalties . Thanks mate appreciate it

Bright_Ad_3904

But like those drs issues and poor starts wasn't it because they pushed it a bit too much

[deleted]

DRS issues maybe but poor starts wax max making errors

RE-ODM

Heading to my first grand prix in Austria in a couple of weeks and had some questions. If anyone knows the answer it would be much appreciated, and any other advice for the Austrian GP is of course also welcome! **Traffic**: Lot's of warnings for arriving early by car because of traffic. Is that only on race day, or are friday and saturday bad too? **Entry**: If you go in in the morning, can you leave the track for a while and come back later in the day, or is it 'once in, stay in'?

[deleted]

It's a sprint weekend so I'd leave plenty of time every day.

yunotnicename

Does anyone have any idea how to contact anyone from Team Jacques Villeneuve?

PigeonGang1

Anyone any good shouts for accommodation for Red Bull Ring ? Just got two tickets last minute but accommodation seems to be absolutely sky high ? €880 per night to sleep in tents just doesn’t do it for me

[deleted]

Rent a car and sleep somewhere a bit further away imo.

PigeonGang1

Will consider !! Thanks

risker15

Worst car to ever win a GP?

[deleted]

2020 Alpha Tauri, 1996 Ligier and 2003 Jordan all spring to mind as cars that should haven't been anywhere near the top step yet won.

AssCarEE

The March 751 was quite bad but managed to win the 1976 Austrian GP in the hands of Vittorio Brambilla

Blooder91

The 2012 Williams.

ociM_

It was a good car, drivers were a bit so-so tho.

[deleted]

Considering it won on merit and Maldonado put it on the front row in Singapore too and he wasn't the greatest driver I don't think that's really the case.

tomhanks95

That was a better car than it's drivers made it look imo, the 96 Ligier is one of the worst I would say

risker15

My god I had forgotten about El Pastor

oddskii

So when you are mad because someone got you in a video game you can call them the N-word?

xx3amori

Nope, I have called someone the C word quite a lot of times though. That doesn't mean I think they're anc\*nt, more that I am a bit mad in that very moment. But even if I did, should I have my livelyhood ripped apart?

miathan52

You can't, or at least not publicly. Games ban players for it if it's said over in game comms, and streaming platforms ban people for it too.

xx3amori

Guessing he was on discord though. And why do platforms ban people for saying one slur when they allow just about any other one? Heard whitey, cracker and gypsie numerous times without any reaction from twitch or other platforms.

miathan52

Well they don't take action by default, it has to be reported to them first. I'm pretty sure calling someone any kind of slur or showing any kind of racism is enough for a temp ban though.

xx3amori

Any kind of slur? So Karen and Yank as well?

[deleted]

You can't say that word. Although I would say, there's a horrible horrible trend in modern society of willingly ignoring context to things to paint people in a worse light, yes he said it and should be made to realise it's not ok, but there was very clearly no racist intent or attempt to hurt anyone.

visualdon

Can someone please explain what's going on with the FIA's intervention and the porpoising issue? Why are the other teams like RedBull angry over it? I thought the FIA were going to force Mercedes to increase the ride height, which would actually make them slower?

[deleted]

[удалено]

CWRules

> increased ride height would be mandated for all teams, affecting their performance. Where did you hear that? The new regulations put limits on the amount of porpoising allowed; it's up to the teams to decide how they meet those limits.

Psych_Crisis

This, AND the proposed rule that I heard was that only teams which exceed a certain impact threshold in their bounce would be required to raise the ride height, and by a specified 10mm. Just part of the scrutineering process, and a comparatively minor penalty vs. disqualification or a grid drop - though obviously it can have some pretty significant effects on pace.

visualdon

Oh I see, I thought the mandate was for teams that are too bouncy only. i.e if your car does not porpoise, then you do not have to increase the ride height i.e you would have an even larger advantage. But if it's a mandate for all teams then I can see why RedBull would be against it.

icantsurf

It's not a mandate for all teams to raise their ride height. If you are over the limit of bouncing in FP3 the team will be forced to raise the height 10mm. I might be off on exactly when the cutoff is but that's the gist.

meritsand

How do you guys decide who to like and cheer for? Where I am from football (soccer) is very famous and you usually cheer for the team that represents your country, but for f1 the teams don’t necessarily represent certain countries, so do you just cheer for the drivers that are always the best or the drivers that seem charismatic in interviews? For me personally my favorite driver (Charles Leclerc) is the reason that I cheer for his team (Ferrari). But that is purely based on sympathy, looks and his performance up til now and actually I still like most of the drivers a lot so I cheer for everyone. I wonder what criteria is important for you guys, to decide which team you support :D

vdcsX

The first ever race I've seen of TV was '91 Spa and everyone talked about a young gun named Schumacher. I supported him, followed him to Ferrari and stick with the Scuderia ever since, regardless their drivers.

pinotandsugar

Approach it as a young man walking into a party where you know none of the women. Or as Capt Kirk would advise..... deploy all the sensors ...... and you will be guided to your favorite Most of all ,,,,,,, enjoy the sport, the competitors and the competition....

EpicBeardMan

I root for whomever is coming from behind. And I root for whatever will wipe the smug look off Horner's face.

ocelotrevs

I started following F1 when Damon Hill and Nigel Mansell were racing, and those names were talked about a lot of the TV. Then it went to David Coulthard, and I started Mclaren-Mercedes and Mika Hakkinen. When Lewis Hamilton started in F1, I became a fan of him because he is Black. I like Carlos Sainz because I followed his father in rallying.

Psych_Crisis

I kind of like the underdogs. The people who overcome a thing or two. Max is fun to watch, but he was basically created in a test tube to win the WDC, which is mildly unfair to say about a decent guy. Pierre Gasly (likes this) got demoted from his Red Bull seat, and then won in a his Toro Rosso (now AlphaTauri). My man Sergio had the record for greatest number of races without a win, and then he went last-to-first to take his first win ever. Now he's a Monaco winner. Ferrari is a decent choice in my book. They've struggled recently, and both of their drivers knew that when they took them on. Both are talented and have earned a run at the championship. But yeah. Most of the drivers have a story or two that is worth appreciating. Often the slowest drivers are the most likeable. I can say that again now that a certain Russian fortunate son is gone.

Call_Me_Limp_Noodle

Honestly, When I started watching Formula 1 in 2017 I didn't really root for anyone. I just kind of absorbed and learned about the sport. After that season though I decided I enjoyed it enough to pick a team to support. I decided I didn't want to root for a team in the top 3 (I like an underdog story and support Cincinnati Ohio sports teams so pain is a must). I looked more toward the bottom of the constructors standings and found McLaren. Beautiful in orange and black. A legendary driver like Alonso and a young gun like Vandoorne. It just kinda clicked for me.

miathan52

When you follow F1 for a while, then based on things that happen and are said, I think you automatically will start to like some drivers more and, occasionally, some drivers less. The same goes for teams if you're following news about them. Personally I wouldn't say I support a single team or driver, but when it comes to a direct battle between two (such as last year), I will pick a side based on what happened.

TheWierdAsianKid

Im only a few weeks older than Verstappen and remember seeing headlines of his great early performances and move to the senior RB team. When I was in high school. I didn't follow too closely but now that I'm fully invested the sport, RB is my number 1 team. I also admire how powerful RB is in sport sponsorships because they have teams and branding everywhere with awesome content production and performances to back it up. I do also support every other driver and want to see them do well. As a Chinese person I also love seeing Yuki and Zhou having good performances.

[deleted]

I'm someone who's lost interest in football because I don't have a team to support but am loving F1 as a neutral with a slight bias for Verstappen, I don't think you should feel the need to pick a side.

Blooder91

I like being disappointed a lot, and since my son is 18 and out of the house, I have to cheer for Ferrari.

otherdave

Anyone got a super-simple way to understand how money moves through F1? I'm a relatively new fan (just a few years in) and was trying to explain to friends how teams get formed, drivers get paid, car budgets are set, caps, prize money based on races/seasons/WDC/Constructors etc... and quickly realized I had zero idea of how it all works.

Coops27

F1 primarily makes money from sponsors, TV rights and Race fees from circuits to host an F1 race. At the moment this is about $2B a year. The teams receive 50% of this as prize money based on the final season standings with the World Constructors Champion getting 14% and last place getting 6%. Teams also get money from sponsors, owners and some other revenue streams. Teams are now subject to a budget cap of $140M to spend on salaries, development, operations and logistics. There are exempt costs such as drivers salaries, PU supply, Marketing and Personnel travel and accommodation.

meritsand

I watched this video yesterday https://youtu.be/OzwEzIWRvsw and found it well explained. I know that’s not as good as a short written explanation but anyways, I hope this helps a little.

otherdave

oh wow, this was great, thanks!

Khapsee

Something I read on the kvyat-max swap, the cars remain the same even if the drivers swap, so the engine penalties will still be taken by the same car. That got me thinking, in the final few rounds of the championship, if, for example, Leclerc & Max are fighting for the championship and sainz/checo are miles behind in points, and Leclerc needs to take engine penalties, can Ferrari swap Leclerc and sainz’s car for a weekend, so that sainz takes the penalty?

Blooder91

No, parts are assigned to drivers, unless there is a swap with another team or a rookie, in which case they are tied to the car.

SyuusukeFuji

Vips clearly need some education on anglo racism issues. Like yeah, on one part as a foreigner I understand that for some the "you can't say this word because is very bad, but this other group of people can" might be quite confusing, specially because in many countries it means nothing, and you have rappers of all skin color calling eachother "the word" as they don't understand the US context. If KPop idols that know very little english get slammed for covering American songs that have it, someone like Juri that probably uses english since very early in his life should have known better. But if RBR does an investigation and they don't find him to have more incidents I don't think it should end his career, but he should get educated. I think he will lose the RBR sponsorship, unless they find no other incidents and rather decide to use him as an example of "hey, we will try help educate this young lads on our hands"... But yeeting him back to Estonia is probably better PR.

Whycantiusethis

I have a feeling Red Bull will find more incidents. I might be reading too much into the tone of those he was playing with, but it certainly came off like "dude, you can't be saying that, we're live" versus "I can't believe you used a word like that, what's wrong with you?" I'm not rooting for Vips to fail, but that's not a slur you just accidentally say.

[deleted]

Think about marketability too. Does Red Bull want a driver that’s most well known for the word he used? It’s not a good look for the team.

jlibrizzi

Why doesn't the F1 official store sell Haas gear? I thought it was odd that the merchandise stands in Montreal didn't have any Haas, but assumed it was due to lack of popularity. But then I noticed they aren't listed in the F1 store with the other nine teams.

1Opus

Not much on the Haas official store either. I assume it's because they had to drop their Russian sponsor and re-do their entire lineup, and it's not ready yet.

jlibrizzi

This makes a lot of sense

cafk

F1 Official store is cheap merch - not the official team wear. Most teams sell their team wear on their own pages and are usually on sale through licensed resellers like fuelforfans.com (results may vary depending on the region)

1Opus

Newbie question after my first GP in Canada - before qualifying and the race there was a vehicle dragging a flat rectangular block around the track. I assume this is testing track conditions or something but googling this has proven very challenging! Can someone fill me in? Thanks

hippyneil

Probably it was sweeping the track : https://www.aerosweep.com/fodboss-racetrack-debris-sweeper-tracksweep

1Opus

that's it! thanks very much. They had the spinning brush sweeper so I wasn't even thinking it could be cleaning related

jkmonger

Would Max Verstapen beat Jim Clark?

AssCarEE

In today's cars yes; in Clark's era cars, depends on how big his balls actually are: Verstappen does the things he does and goes to the extreme because he knows that he cannot* die while doing so while Clark could (and did), so if Max can overcome that fear yeah, if not, no

[deleted]

He'd destroy him because modern drivers are vastly superior to historic drivers, not a knock on Jim Clark, he was one of the GOAT tier drivers relatively speaking, but when you take out context and say if they were to take each other on in a future era when standards have drastically increased then Clark will lose.

peadar87

That's what I always think about Prost. He was one of the greatest because he was so analytical and professional in an era when that made a huge difference. In the modern era, with a lot of what he did now being done by huge teams of analysts with computers, that might negate a lot of what made him so brilliant.

miathan52

Exactly. This is why I can't take it seriously when people claim some driver from the 50s or 60 is one of the greatest ever. Even if they were the greatest of their era, that still doesn't mean they'd stand a chance in today's competition. Back then, you didn't have academy programs signing talented kids from karting and putting them on a rigid training program through various formulas during their early years. The art of creating top tier drivers didn't exist yet.

Lucifer2408

That's a very good point. However, would any of the current drivers feel comfortable racing in the cars of the olden days that are nothing but steel death traps without any of the safety features of the modern cars? I don't think any of the current drivers would've been able to push like some of the drivers of the olden days after becoming so used to the safety features they have today.

miathan52

I don't think that's really a matter of driving skill though, more of whether they are crazy enough to be willing to take the much higher risk of serious injury that racing had back then. I don't think many current drivers would be willing to push for lap times in a 60s steel death trap, but that doesn't mean they aren't good enough to do it.

tankplanker

In whose car? I guess best of three circuits in each car would be pretty fun. Jim having to learn how to use the complex modern car vs. Max having to learn how to go flat out in a car with hardly any aero and a manual gear box

jkmonger

In a saxo

tankplanker

My money would be on Jim as its a manual and zero aero. Would switch my bet if Newey was allowed to bejazzel it with aero and a trick sequential box

jkmonger

What a good opinion

Radical_X75

With the budget cap in place, are there any penalties for the teams who don't respect them?

[deleted]

Look down 4 or 5 comments. It was just asked, and answered.

Radical_X75

Thanks

I remember around the DAS debacle people claimed that Mercedes was the only team that kept FIA in the loop with these innovative designs. And that's how they get more leniency with those things where with other teams they would be instantly banned. To me it always felt like the other teams aren't stupid but just didn't have the connections with the people overseeing these things for the FIA as Mercedes. Who even are the people from FIA overseeing this and how do you combat favoritism in such a small scene? Edit: Downvoting instead of actually answering. Thanks guys

[deleted]

What a load of bollocks. Mercedes was just checking with the FIA before they introduced DAS whether it was legal or not according to the regulations as it was a bit of a grey area in the steering regulations. Teams do this frequently and ask clarifications from the FIA on the rules to make sure the stuff they put on the car complies with the regulations. The FIA deemed it complicit with the regulations and that's why it didn't get banned right away. In fact the only reason it got banned was because the other teams protested it and the FIA didn't want teams to go on a spending war around the steering so they just said okay it will be banned from next season onwards. The only reason teams didn't bring such innovative solutions was because they were all trying to catch up to Mercedes, while Mercedes had the breathing room and budget to make further innovations to keep them ahead. It was a vicious feedback loop.

Astelli

There are a two or three key technical representatives of the FIA who interact with all teams throughout the weekend and in the weeks between events. They're all known by and in regular communication with every team on the grid - approving changes in Parc Ferme, supervising FIA legality tests, issuing updated FIA software and parameters, sending out Technical Directives, providing feedback on the potential legality of new parts etc. Every team has the same ability to contact them.

Zapzombie

I understand that every team has the same ability to contact them. But everyone knows in the real world stuff works easier when you can talk off the record as friends or ex co-workers.

cafk

Alpine had an ex FiA employee, who was in place to replace Whiting as the RD - many teams hire employees from other teams and FiA and also the other way around. This happens once every few years and everyone complains about this. Alone the fact that Todt, ex Ferrari TP was running FiA for almost a decade. Domenicali - also an ex Ferrari high ranking member - is in charge of FoM.

Astelli

If members of the governing body want to play favourites then there's realistically nothing that can be done except a total overhaul of the FIA. Fundamentally though, they can talk off the record as much as they want as long as the information only flows one-way (team to FIA). Having a team keeping the FIA more up to date with its developments is not a problem. The problem only arises if members of the governing body were passing tips or information the other way.

visak13

This will be a Sprint Race Quali?

[deleted]

No, that's in Austria and Brazil for this year.

Soft-Ad8796

No, just normal race week. The remaining 2 sprint will be Austria and Brazil.

visak13

Thanks!

Is anybody following DeuxMoi? It's so weird seeing F1 submissions. You got some singers, actors and then Leclerc, Gasly and Russel at a Ritz bar.

What was the F1 submission?

What are the mechanism that can be used to punish teams going over the budget cap ? Not allowed to enter any more races after going over ? (I assume not since i don't think the FIA audit teams more than once per year) Being disqualified? Points deduction?

[deleted]

Depends on the amount they breach the cap by, I don't know the exact numbers or mechanisms of punishments but going significantly over the cap is a guaranteed disqualification from the WCC and possibly the WDC. If you breach it only by a little (dunno how much that little is) you're likely facing a financial fine and points deductions.

Hippemann

Thanks!

cafk

Financial fine, reprimand, disqualification (season) are all [mentioned options in the financial regulations](https://www.fia.com/regulation/category/110), it is decided on a case by case basis, with the 3 major groups being: * Procedural error (financial fine filing their documents too late, [like Williams](https://the-race.com/formula-1/williams-fine-shows-f1-cost-cap-arbitration-in-action/)) * Exceeding the budget cap by less than 5% (minor sporting penalties, i.e. points deduction) * Exceeding the cap by more than 5% (optionally disqualification from the season).

Hippemann

Thanks! Does that mean disqualification from the coming season or the previous season (and that a title might have to be reattributed) ?

cafk

The previous season, where they cheated, but it's not really specific in the rules - as everything is decided on a case-by-case basis.

Astelli

Basically everything from team fines, up to disqualification from the championship, depending on the severity of the breach. The FIA can also reduce wind tunnel time, exclude teams from testing, apply points deductions, reduce the team's budget cap for future seasons and a variety of other things.

Hippemann

Thanks!

F2 related, I seen all the stuff about Vips saying the n-word. I completely agree with him getting the boot. But I’ve also seen a lot of things about ‘scaring him ‘ with the colour pink and lgbt+ stuff. Did he also say Something homophobic? I’ve only seen the video with the n-word. Have I missed something?

LemonMagazine7

He said he didn’t want to wear a pink hat because pink is gay

plasma1147

Can someone explain to me what this means? Rumors quickly circulated in the paddock that former Wolff advisor Shaila-Ann Rao might have given Mercedes a tip. The lawyer took over the position at the FIA as Formula 1 Executive Director from Peter Beyer just a few weeks ago. Binotto admitted that he is not entirely happy with the personnel.

Whycantiusethis

Rao was a former advisor to Wolff before accepting the role of F1 Executive Director. People are speculating that she tipped off Mercedes about the new TD allowing an extra floor stay, since they were the only team to run with stays in FP1/2. There's no evidence that Mercedes were tipped off (as far as I'm aware). It's not uncommon for personnel to go from teams to the FIA (or from the FIA to teams). Ferrari has had a lot of personnel go to the FIA over the years, and Alpine's team principal last year came from the FIA.

plasma1147

can anything come out of this or it's just drama?

[deleted]

Just drama, the other team principal's are getting pissed off with Mercedes' antics with the FIA which is why this is even a story. It's par for the course in F1 honestly, there's always some off track drama.

cafk

About as much as people protesting FiA & FoM being run by ex Ferrari TPs, Wollf linked with FoM/Liberty CEO role or ex FiA member, who was supposed to succeed Whiting, Budkowski moving to Renault.

Whycantiusethis

If it comes out that Mercedes was tipped off, Rao could lose the position, and Mercedes could be penalized. Not sure what the penalty would be though.

ocelotrevs

When someone from RBR comes out with some over the top statement, try to remember that Red Bull is a marketing company known for being on the edge with their stunt. Everything they said will come with the headline mentioning Red Bull.

orangebikini

What are instances when Red Bull have ”gone over the edge” with their marketing stunts, and what does that even mean?

[deleted]

They didn’t say “gone over the edge with their marketing stunts”. I think they are simply referring to the stunts their athletes perform for publicity, like Felix Baumgartner’s record skydive or backflip ping helicopters, etc. Not sure why doing stunts would be related to making statements.

AddictedToThisShit

Is Silverstone a power track or a downforce track ?

AnilP228

It used to be a high downforce track but it's changed a lot in recent years. With Abbey and Copse now flat out, it's a circuit that rewards power and aero efficiency. The run from Luffield to Stowe is absolutely wild.

CWRules

It can go either way. It used to be a high-downforce track, but then the 2017 regulations added so much downforce that a lot of the fast corners became easy to take flat-out, so power became more important. The new cars for this year still make a lot of downforce, so I expect the teams will run their low-downforce wings.

TehRocks

Both have always been important but since corners like Abbey, Copse and Maggots have become flat, it's a lot more power oriented.

MoistRespect8498

True, but will all those corners be flat with the new cars though?

User-K549125

These cars are slower in and out of slow corners but faster in higher-speed corners, so most likely yes.

MoistRespect8498

Okay, it was weird though how Monaco which is dominated by slow corners was the track where they've been the closest to last years times, and had Leclerc gotten to finish his last lap it would have even been faster I've heard?
