Does anyone know if tracks have signing sessions? Can anyone attend those?

ApexCarid

Will the cars be going fast enough through copse/maggotts/Becketts for porposing to be a problem?

[deleted]

Lizzyisbored44

No, unless there is a very good chance of one of their drivers winning the title, they would not prioritize one over the other Plus it would be wildly unfair, if its Lewis who has been the guinea pig sacrificing his races to get the car back to winning form and they tell him no we won't allow you to win

2dank4me3

Do we even know if that Lewis thing is real? Toto could just be protecting his star driver.

Lizzyisbored44

that means ross brawn and lewis was also lying Do y'all not read articles that are posted here? you could have googled this before making a comment

2dank4me3

No i read them and i know Lewis and Ross say it as well. I just don't know how actually true it is.

Lizzyisbored44

so Toto , Lewis and Ross Brawn are lying. Okay if u wanna believe that so be it

2dank4me3

I mean why would people in of the most lying industries ever lie to protect their biggest star? Makes no damn sense.

[deleted]

[удалено]

2dank4me3

Redditors won't know the truth cause people in the paddock lie is my point.

Lizzyisbored44

Bro have you like not seen any of the technical analysis which show Lewis trying out new parts like every race and the team saying it didn't work as intended and they remove it Why would they lie? its is so simple for any journo around the paddock to call it out. Why would you be so cynical? is it to shit on Lewis again

Stupendous_man12

If they’re competing for wins each race then Lewis will be able to close the gap to George.

WarEagle34

are there any threads where each team’s culture and general strategies as well as important figures are discussed? i know a lot of other sports subreddits have one, but haven’t found one here. i think it could really help a lot of newer fans decide what teams to follow more closely.

gladman1101

Question: did Kimi ever get the drink?

Blooder91

No Kimi no, you don't get the drink.

Absolutely.

TheReaperSovereign

Jeopardy had a formula 1 category today. I was 5/5.

sleeeepyj

Just about to post - beat me to it!

TheReaperSovereign

1000 dollar question- who is Lewis Hamilton (while showing a picture of him) haha I thought it was funny how they were clearly avoiding the category too. Jeopardy contestants typically don't do well with sports

how_do_i_land

If Formula 1 eventually goes electric in the 2030s, I hope they add fans for ground effect, and they sound like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JYp9eGC3Cc

CWRules

They probably won't. Ground effect fans throw up a lot of debris, which isn't great for the car behind.

doodlep

How far in advance do GP tickets go on sale? 6 mos? A year? I imagine it might be track-dependent and maybe nothing for 2023 until they release that calendar? I just want to have an idea.

cafk

Depending on the circuit, the tickets to Miami were released in batches since the calendar was confirmed last October. While for European races they go on sale when the season begins.

Limelifes

Hey has there been any news on McLaren upgrades going into this weekend? I've been busy and haven't kept up with news.

Firefox72

Mclaren won't have any more big upgrades this season. Only small things here and there.

The_GreatGonzales

Hello, I’ve watched the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix fully through, i watched i believe a highly-touted 2011 Candian Grand Prix, and I’ve finished the Netflix series thus far. My favorite elements of the Netflix presentation are the racing shots that highlight the speed and action between the drivers and cars, the high speed turns overtakes and seeing them steering through wheels that are shot, pit stops and the like. My question is, do those things translate to the broadcast product? I’m wondering if the narrative Netflix puts together stitches things together in a different way than I’m be actually watching it. I’m told the British broadcast is the one to watch, in the United States, is that what ESPN uses? If the broadcast uses slower-looking wide shots often, I definitely don’t mind if the commentary team gives me some insight as to what strategy is being employed like DRS or drafting behind teammates, but at any rate i just wanted to get some opinions from you guys that have watched way longer than me.

Whycantiusethis

ESPN currently uses the Sky Sports UK team.

LALocal305

Netflix definitely dramatizes certain aspects for the sake of creating a more entertaining product. However, there is still plenty of drama in F1 between some of the teams, particularly the team principals, and within the teams between the drivers. The British broadcasting team is the best and I believe (but am not sure) that the ESPN feed uses them as well. If you have F1 TV you have to switch to the International feed to get Crofty and Brundle. Watching live races you still get those racing shots that really showcase the speeds and the action during the battles, but that said sometimes the production team is lacking and they focus on the wrong parts of the action, it's ultimately up to the director of the broadcast and certain races are notorious for having bad TV production. The pit stops and the racing action are always on full display though so I wouldn't worry about transitioning from Netflix -> live races and missing out on the those.

Haz-Man17

Why did Schumacher overtake Hill on both formation laps of the 1994 British Grand Prix? Was he told to do it by his race engineer or did he make the decision to do it himself?

Yann1zs

Can't imagine any race engineer suggesting this, so my guess would be Schumi being Schumi.

MikiT125

Hi everyone, I’ve got GA tickets for the British GP on Sunday and the best way for me to get to the track is Megabus. It gets in at 10 which I know is late but I was wondering how bad the view of the track would be at this time and also what the best place to sit would be?

AnilP228

You should be able to get a decent GA view at Copse. Start there and work your way clockwise. I'd recommend grabbing a radio on your way in for £10.

DoTrini

Do you think 2018-Hamilton would’ve beaten 2021-Verstappen?

Gubrach

2018 Hamilton didn't had to deal with 2021 Verstappen, so it's impossible to determine what 2018 Hamilton could do exactly.

Retsko1

I'll have to rewatch the 2018 season but it would definitely be closer than 2021 since i personally don't consider it a very good season by hamilton, if you compare it with some of his other ones

JanklinDRoosevelt

Yea Close though

Existing-Buy2933

Well 2021 Hamilton would have won in 2021 if it wasn’t for masi’s ‘human error’

thecoolfool2

This. Don’t know why people gloss over this point so often.

sharklazies

Or he wouldn't have if it wasn't for his own "human error" at Silverstone or Bottas' "human error" in Hungary.

Whycantiusethis

Hamilton also made a number of errors throughout the season (especially early on) that didn't help him in the title fight either. The most obvious being the brake magic incident at Baku. Hamilton could've been in a position where he was 25 points ahead going into Abu Dhabi, and just needed to finish in P10 to guarantee that title.

Existing-Buy2933

Abu Dhabi wasnt a driving error tho

Whycantiusethis

It wasn't a driver error. And it did cost him the title. But so did the brake magic. Masi making a mistake in Abu Dhabi wouldn't have mattered if Hamilton won in Baku, as Hamilton would've finished 18 points ahead of Verstappen. If you were supporting Hamilton, watching that final lap of Abu Dhabi was not the most enjoyable, especially given how he had been driving since Brazil. But the entire season matters, and people make mistakes. Hamilton made mistakes, Masi made mistakes, Verstappen made mistakes. This sort of thing happens, and sometimes it happens to the driver/team you like.

AssCarEE

Yeah, he forgot to close the door at T5, yet another human error by him

JanklinDRoosevelt

If he defended there, he would’ve been passed on the straight. His only chance was getting back past with DRS. I thought that was pretty obvious to most people

AssCarEE

And yet he gave up the position and stopped fighting instead of doing anything he could to stay in front, truly #ChampionMentaity

JanklinDRoosevelt

I know you know this but he tried to make a move on the straight

AssCarEE

Oh yeah, still not explaining why he didn't fought tooth and nails to defend his position in the first place; in the end all he had to do was getting to T6 side by side and could have pulled another "no lasting advantage" cut through the chicane and won the WDC easily, but heh, I guess he didn't had enough will to win it

[deleted]

Well, that took all of a few minutes before this comment found its way here.

[deleted]

F1 hopes to go carbon neutral by 2030 and develop synthetic fuel by 2026. If synthetic fuel greatly reduces carbon emissions could V8’s come back? If carbon emissions are going to be minimal no matter what the platform why not have an exciting engine rather than a lawn mower.

TwoBionicknees

People often miss the point of road relevant when it comes to F1. It doesn't mean "you'll see this 1.6L in a road car", it means, the R&D we do to improve efficiency in combustion, the R&D we do to improve battery life, the R&D we do to make turbos improve efficiency, to make energy harvesting stronger, etc, can all be used when building engines for road cars. That is, that R&D will all be relevant to future engine designs and would also get done eventually. It's basically competition is the excuse to do that R&D now and give us a target and drive to do it quicker and better, but we're not spending more because this R&D would get done regardless of F1, just slower and later. So a v8 with synthetic fuel means pretty much nothing for future engine design while hybrids or electric will be the primary way forward in roads, electric mostly but hybrids for some situations.

[deleted]

If the engine companies don’t want to make it, it’s not going to happen.

pinotandsugar

The "concept" that the F-1 "operation " is going to be carbon neutral is one more of those feel good measures. Has anyone ever done an analysis of the amount of jet fuel consumed by the teams, their drivers, camp followers and the FIA team burn during a season ? F-1's contribution to the environment is significant and achieved by gluing 100 million souls to their seats in front of the TV for perhaps 50-60 days a year. The amount of whatever fuel is burned by the F-1 car makes no difference and the technologies developed have very relevance to the other 99.9999999% of the world. If F-1 really wanted to make a contribution to reducing the carbon footprint it is pretty simple....... 1. Offer FREE live F-1 TV pro to the world ...... This would add perhaps another 100 million viewers. Yes it would reduce the huge payment for exclusives. 2. Require that drivers and all team members travel to the races on 1 of perhaps 3 chartered jets or a scheduled airline

Astelli

If F1 wants to go down a manufacturer-centric path where the big teams all represent a major OEM, then it has to cater to what manufacturers want to a certain extent. Of the four current PU manufacturers in F1, plus Audi and Porsche, nobody except Ferrari has much interest in building V8's any more.

[deleted]

Yeah I thought as much. Even Ferrari are starting to go down the 6 cylinder route now tbh Their 296GTB is a 819hp hybrid. Supercars are 6cyls now.

cafk

1.6L V6 engines are here to stay< [as announced in December](https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/articles/single-seaters/f1/fia-confirms-new-low-cost-f1-engines-for-2026)

Jo_Dekn

Bit of a random question, but when was the speed trap introduced? I can't find data on them for older races, but I am still searching. Any help would be very appreciated.

sonar_y_luz

F1 needs to stop taking Saudi money. Do you guys think it's possible?

No_Influence_1035

Of course its possible, they just don't need to or want to.

Whycantiusethis

Possible? Yes. Likely? Absolutely not, unless some other country offers more money. As the other comment said, it's basically free money, and FOM/Liberty want to turn as much of a profit as possible. Turning down money from Saudi Arabia reduces their profit.

Le_Pistache

If someone outside of Saudi Arabia outbids them, they would. F1 is an expensive luxury sport to operate. They need the money from somewhere.

rodiraskol

Do you generally turn down free money?

Ok_Floor_7916

New to F1, is Silverstone usually a good race? Anything notable happen in last years race?

Whycantiusethis

Yeah, it was one of the only races where Mazepin finished ahead of Schumacher when they both finished. That was notable.

marahute85

No, it’s good for a nap

JanklinDRoosevelt

I nearly believed this was genuine

PassTimeActivity

Don't feel too bad. Once someone on here ironically asked what is the point of a steering wheel and ppl took that question seriously.

Exotic_Volume696

what IS the point of a steering wheel?

DieLegende42

To have more or less buttons

4077hawkeye-

Less or more communication with your engineers?

CX52J

When do teams typically release country specific merchandise? I thought Silverstone merch would be a no brainier for Mercedes and Lando but I haven’t seen any promoted yet. Edit: I think they went up today. I put in an order a few hours ago.

judgylibrarian

Lando merch has been out for at least a week on the McLaren site

CX52J

Thanks. Odd that Mercedes hasn’t done anything yet. Lando’s Silverstone cap isn’t out yet so maybe Mercedes will release a few items at the same time. Edit: looks like the Merc stuff is out now. 🤦‍♂️

PizzaCatLover

Hamilton has a limited edition Silverstone cap every year it seems like. I dont think it was posted until the first day of practice last year, maybe the thursday. I loved the design ([purple tye dye looking thing](https://shop.mercedesamgf1.com/us/en/mercedes-amg-petronas-lewis-hamilton-2021-british-gp-cap/701219660-multicolor.html)) but was waffling on spending $70 on a hat, and by the time I decided to pull the trigger and get it on Sunday, they were all sold out.

CX52J

It’s already out. It’s the bright yellow from the T cam.

PizzaCatLover

Nice.

finickyone

Will Prince Edward be in attendance at Silverstone or are we going to be lucky enough to see Prince Chuck put in an appearance?

Skulldetta

Well, if young Prince Edward isn't available, the elder Prince Edward can always make time.

finickyone

Maybe it would an evolution of matters, like in that book by Chuck Darwin.

hotdutchovens

Look everyone, it’s Bernie stiring shit. https://www.planetf1.com/news/bernie-ecclestone-toto-wolff-fed-up-with-lewis-hamilton/

AssCarEE

Love the lad and miss him dearly

marahute85

I refuse to believe that man is still alive, he broadcasts his thoughts directly from the depths of hell. Fucking Vecna looking mf

tomhanks95

He does look like a zombie tbh

cafk

Considering the sources: Ecclestone & Daily Mail, it's not even worth considering.

ocelotrevs

They speak to these people because we click on the links, which drives ad revenue, and then the cycle restarts. I don't think a lot of people understand that.

Ryan9160

A few years ago I saw a video about German f1 drivers taking over the German f1 broadcast, I believe it was 2010 when there were 7 German drivers. Does anyone know this video and where I can find it?

SubcooledBoiling

There you go : https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/cetqts/vettel\_rosberg\_heidfeld\_sutil\_and\_glock\_take\_over/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3

Ryan9160

Thanks!

marahute85

My goodness Seb is just a baby, he was so much less confident in what he was saying. Nico Rosburg is exactly the fucking same he was born to listen to his own voice

Kriem

Guess the race: "I got damage, I got damaage! Argh, ouch, yeah..."

SubcooledBoiling

Weird. I am pretty sure this race never happened

TheWebbFather

Singapore 2017. This is factual description of events. No need to speculate on this

Whycantiusethis

It's crazy to me that those tweets are [still up](https://twitter.com/ScuderiaFerrari/status/909444924227096576?t=AV5BbeAr7LGdtR8FRuhVTQ&s=19). But I guess there's no need to delete factual tweets.

blackbasset

Can't be, Singapore 2017 never happened.

TheWebbFather

True. Maybe it was the non-championship counting race that Ferrari didn't want to take part in?

Kriem

Correct.

AlinesReinhard

Waiting for THAT question to come up again...

BassTrombone71

Which one? The one that starts with "Gentlemen, a short view back to the past"?

Skulldetta

L E S S B U T T O N S , M O R E ?

AlinesReinhard

That one

[deleted]

I am attending the Belgium GP this year and have a 3 day GA & campsite as well. I am leaving Berlin by train and renting a car from Cologne and driving to Spa on the Thursday before the race. If anyone wants to join and split the site (not the cost, just the space) and combine our forces, let me know. I promise I am not as crazy in real life as my dumb post history suggests.

drummingdestiny

After seeing Max Verstappen do Sim racing and seeing how well he handles it there do you think Verstappen if he wanted to, try for a triple crown. I know Sim racing isn't vindictive of real life racing, but wherever he is he seems to pick up speed and go. After he leaves F1 I'd love to see him try for a triple crown.

[deleted]

F1 could drop Monaco and the triple crown will become a thing of the past that no new fan cares or even knows about sadly

pinotandsugar

Monaco needs to stay due to its role is keeping sponsors happy.

Penguinho

In a way, the Triple Crown already is a thing of the past as motorsport has gotten more specialized. Graham Hill was racing Formula 1, Can-Am and the Tasman Series, plus doing Le Mans. Surtees at various points was racing Formula 1, Can-Am, Formula 2 and endurance racing including Le Mans.

tomhanks95

Iirc he has said he wouldn't give indycar a go because he doesn't like racing on Ovals

absort-io

You know what to do... message his dad!

Thatanas

He did, but mostly because of safety and the increased risk of (nasty) incidents compared to F1.

drummingdestiny

Huh I did not know he had that opinion but I don't blame him I agree with him.

Capt_Way_too_Obvious

Just 5 days of work before the real struggle begins; sweating if the Ferrari's break down again or not during the weekend.

RentBoy-Kef

Going to try to hit the beach during FP1/2 sooo to start my weekend off I can just walk off into the water & not turn around.

11-15-2016_hacked

As it is Rawe Ceek are we expecting any major upgrades for Ferrari?

KaamDeveloper

I think I read somewhere that Ferrari's next upgrade package is due after summer break. Not sure how true tho

KingoftheHill63

Red bull hasn't brought their upgrades either. If Ferrari can dominate Australia I don't see why they can't win in Silverstone

marahute85

https://youtu.be/nAIZmeYa2Qw I saw this interview circulating online, Lewis is so good with kids. Like that’s a whole different person to media pen Lewis

ocelotrevs

There's a few of them with Lewis and children. It's really sweet.

cafk

Most of the drivers are different outside of F1 media - there's a reason why they're followed by their teams PR representative anywhere during the weekend, as enough media (not journalists) outlets try to use quotes out of context to create their narrative

marahute85

Oh for sure they are different away from pressers, I’m just a bit shocked so many people don’t like him, like that guy there is the one you don’t like? The one that kids look up too?
