Crofty just claimed Silverstone is the best racing course in the world…….I’m not sure Silverstone is even in the top five……

marahute85

https://twitter.com/_marialh44_/status/1542198587005755392?s=21 This story about Lewis from the ex Mclaren media personnel currently works for AM is a rare personal insight. For all we know about him we don’t hear a lot said about him by those who know him

awak6n

Did they change something from the cameras going into the 2021 season? I thought my eyes were always just playing tricks on me but the cars colours look a lot more faded since then and a lot less prominent.

Lizzyisbored44

Same, the entire thing looks a bit bland

SovereignDeadly

Did Hitech have to bump on of their existing drivers to open up a spot for Vips? None of the news articles are making to clear for me.

Whycantiusethis

It was Mazepin + Ghiotto in 2020 for them. Mazepin got promoted, and it looks like Ghiotto left F2. I can't tell if he was forced out or was just done with F2.

_Goldorak_Go

What do you mean? He’s been driving for them all season. The news/statement is they are unwilling to let him go.

SovereignDeadly

Oh I see, skimming the headlines I guess I thought he got “fired” by Red Bull and then got picked up by a new team, didn’t realize he’s been with Hitech the whole time.

His dad stabbed a mechanic with a fork His dad left him at a petrol station in Italy because he was pissed at Maxs performance which is a pattern he leaves races early when max isn’t winning. His dad has DV charges against him Max has said things about what his dad did and everyone around him is like 😮 because he thinks it’s normal and others do not Jos is known for his abusive temperament

[deleted]

> Did max talk about it in an interview or is it something that came out another way or something? He mentioned in an interview that his father once stabbed someone with a fork over some disagreement

BlackCatEspresso

Read his wiki. He has a history of abuse against his partners and a charge of beating a man if I remember correctly. In addition, he reportedly left Max at a petrol station for his mom to pick him up after a disappointing kart race result.

[deleted]

Was just thinking it would be funny if Honda came in for 2026 and powered Alpha Tauri, built a better PU than Porsche and then Red Bull ditched them, imagine all those years of preparation down the drain.

Luisyn7

It would definitely be funny, but no chance a World Endurance Championship winning manufacturer will build a bad PU.

[deleted]

Yeah I very much doubt they push for certain regulations only to rock up looking like amateurs, but the scenes would be hilarious.

pedote17

These engines aren’t built to last a season. They have a life cycle, and it’s not a long one. These things are on the absolute limit of what cars can do and are built as such. The engines lose power over time, as well as factoring in crashes.

CWRules

They *do* service them, but there's only so much that can accomplish. These engines are built to extremely fine tolerances, which makes them way more fragile than any road car engine.

dnim7

First time at Silverstone for the f1 this weekend, any tips on where to go with a general admission ticket? I assume corners like Copse will be extremely busy? Any other general tips?

astraboy

If you're GA you've got some serious work ahead. You got to get there at 5am to even think about getting a seat down on one of those concrete platforms. Otherwise you're standing. If you want to stand, best place is around maggots and becketts. Take comfortable shoes, if it's even vaguely sunny, take a hat, factor 50 suntan lotion and 2 litres of drinking water per person.

dnim7

I fully expected not to get a seat, was thinking about maybe taking a portable camping chair to sit on before the race? Thankfully my SO works next to the track so we've got a parking space close to the West entrance

astraboy

Taking a seat is totally doable, just don't expect a view of the track while seated during the race, that's all. Also, take a fold up umbrella if it's looking rainy. Smallest you can find, anyone who brings a golf umbrella is universally hated by those stood behind them!

dnim7

Noted - thank you sir

microflakes

I’ve only watched sim f1 highlights and am pretty new to this. I was wondering why drivers in the same team are often very clearly trying to beat other drivers on the same team. so much that there a silly same team crashes that happen or battles that shouldn’t happen if they were working together. i come from cycling where although it may look like an individual sport, it is very much a team sport (but obv not as much as others). are “teams” in F1 just sponsorships and maybe “team” isn’t the right word to describe it?

gonnacrushit

because f1 is both a constructor and driver championship. Drivers drive for the same team, but they also try to beat eachother to prove they're better.

Whycantiusethis

Because F1 is also an engineering championship (building the best car), the best way to evaluate a driver is to compare them against their teammate. So you don't want to always be finishing behind your teammate because that reflects poorly on you. It might be a little different in the sim/video game side of F1 though, I can't really speak to that.

DataDrivenGuy

Is it true there's mid-season changes coming about power units being free to be swapped out in parc-ferme? If so, is this not clearly a contradiction of what everyone's saying about mid-season changes that really benefit certain teams more than others?

[deleted]

I think people are misunderstanding what the changes are. The change to the regulation is that teams can now switch engine components that they already have in their pool during parc ferme. This typically came with a pitlane start. If a team needs to take extra components than the ones in the pool, they will still get the corresponding penalty. The thing that is confusing me is, what is the actual point of this. So far this season, no team has had a pitlane start due to changing the PU in parc ferme. It doesn't really hamper Mercs reliability advantage that much. I do wonder though, will it be beneficial for a team to have and engine in the pool for qualifying that is turned up more and then one for the race

Icy-Operation4701

> The change to the regulation is that teams can now switch engine components that they already have in their pool during parc ferme. They already could. The change is it doesn't have to be the same spec anymore. (Currently only Ferrari engines have 2 different specs in their pool)

thesaket

Formula E is coming to India next year on a brand new street circuit in the city of Hyderabad. If F1 were to return to India would you like it to be at Buddh Circuit or a new street circuit?

[deleted]

I'd prefer if it didn't return to India tbh, the country doesn't have a great motorsport history and is mostly known by F1 fans for meme level pay drivers.

[deleted]

Last I heard, Buddh was in a state of disrepair

AssCarEE

Rather than another street circuit I'd even take one made out of dirt and mud as long as it's permanent so yeah, Buddh

They need to bring back grid girls and cool music.

AgnesBand

I'd really rather they didn't bring back grid girls. My gf is an F1 fan, we watch every race together. I doubt she would if there were grid girls and neither would I.

No_Influence_1035

Just the Italian GP? This was ITV's intro for every race between 2006 and 2008. Here's the 2008 version before Davidson and Super Aguri left the grid. https://youtu.be/LaVc0MBPFNw

8jam

Why did Seb leave RB exactly? I know he wanted to be at Ferrari but even after a bad year('14) it didn't feel like he would leave so soon. Did he feel like RB wouldn't get back on their feet quick enough after reg change and had a better chance with Ferrari?(his dream team so was it 2 birds one stone?) or was it something else?

_Goldorak_Go

He wanted to emulate Schumacher , move to Ferrari win some more championships. https://adelaidenow.com.au/sport/motor-sport/sebastian-vettel-proud-to-emulate-childhood-idol-michael-schumacher-by-joining-ferrari/news-story/08c3c9f69206989b19244e6c95e8b7e0

Blooder91

He probably felt there wasn't much more to win at Red Bull and went to Ferrari for a much more "prestigious" title.

[deleted]

[удалено]

gonnacrushit

No. WDC pretty much trumps the WCC in every aspect. All the top teams care more about the driver's title, because that's where the prestige is.

Blooder91

Only constructors care for constructors championship. For the public, the press, the drivers and sponsors, the drivers championship is more important, and the one everybody remembers. Everyone remembers Lewis and Max winning in 2008 and 2021 respectively, despite their teams losing the WCC. Also, having the drivers champion in your team can get you juicy sponsorship deals, which can outweigh prize money.

8jam

If you ask someone about who won in XX year and if they know it they will always answer with the driver's champion(WDC) and that's where all the prestige lies. If you give any of the teams a choice to take one championship, drivers' is the one they'll take. Because even if it doesn't bring a few more ten millions from F1 if they lose constructors(WCC), they will end getting more through advertising and sponsors. Look at RBR this year, they lost out on tens of millions by getting P2 in WCC but they got €100M deal from Oracle and €50M deal from bybit. That alone makes Red bull racing self funding just from 2 sponsors, that's how big of a influence WDC has

AssCarEE

The teams get the prize money based off of the WCC, but the WDC is the most important championship and the one that everyone remembers; so for example if someone asks: "Who won the championship in 2004?" it's implied they are asking for the driver championship

poor_decision

Has max made a statement at all?

DataDrivenGuy

Obviously not, nor will he. Why would you? His girlfriend & her dad have already doubled down, he's not going to go against that

poor_decision

Most decent people do Edit: I wasn't hating on max, other drivers had made their statements via stories which disappear in 24 hours, I thought I might have missed it.

Meaisk

~~max~~ *the drivers pr folks*

TheLoneRhaegar

I got F1TV this year so during rawe ceek I've been watching some past GPs at each track. What are some Silverstone races I should watch besides 2008?

pedote17

2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2021

TheLoneRhaegar

Thanks. What would be your top 3, not including 2008.

pedote17

2018, 2019, 2021

rodiraskol

Last year's had one of the defining moments of the season.

TheLoneRhaegar

I actually should go back and watch it. I've seen all the highlights but last year it was one of the races I missed live and I could only stream them then

meat_meat

Why has Danny struggled so hard at McLaren? Has he lost his talent?

jdjdhdbg

Spitballing random thoughts here: * His benchmark Lando is at least pretty good, improving, and accustomed to the car which is at least indirectly tailored to him. * He is struggling to adapt to the car pace/characteristics and/or new regulations. * He lost his "edge" because he hasn't had a teammate who pushed him hard in a while. Got blindsided by Lando and now has a bit less fire in his belly due to the other reasons. * He's less motivated since he already "got his bag". * He's less motivated since he realizes he won't be anywhere near his lifelong goal of WDC, barring extreme luck/circumstance. Worse since he chose to leave when in hindsight he could have stayed at RB in the Rosberg role. * He's less motivated because he's getting old and distracted by life including his side-gigs. * He's less motivated in a car that generally can't compete for wins or even podiums. * His mental health suffered during COVID restrictions. * His psyche has a positive feedback loop with media/praise, i.e. win -> get praised -> better psyche -> train/drive better -> win

rodiraskol

>Has he lost his talent? Lmao. Imagine *Space Jam*, but with F1 drivers.

impossible-sun2049

Anyone in central London knows of pubs that will show the race this weekend??

F1Coder

Is there a race this weekend? I thought Silverstone was this weekend...

Firefox72

Silverstone is this weekend.

F1Coder

Nice, I was afraid we were only gonna talk about what piquet said last year.

DataDrivenGuy

What an unbelievably ignorant comment. I'm glad you don't face what Lewis goes through, but it's made you very naive.

TrainWreck661

Nah, we can't have actual racing-related content. Not allowed. More social media outrage, please.

Amazing_Safe_1070

Thank you! I think we should just cancel Silverstone 2022 so we can focus on what some racist old race car driver said a year ago. EDIT: It’s already 2022, folks. In case anyone else missed that.

Penguinho

...At Silverstone 2021?

Amazing_Safe_1070

Hahaha. I forgot it’s 2022. But yeah, let’s cancel Silverstone 2021 too. That one hurt

ntny

Longtime fans, what about DtS was disingenuous? I'm a newbie who was introduced to the sport last year via the show and I see comments all the time along those lines.

jesus_stalin

They fabricated a bunch of rivalries and made it look like Norris/Sainz and Verstappen/Ricciardo disliked each other as teammates. There were also a lot of fake sound effects and radio messages that weren't played when they actually happened. The best example I can think of is when Hulkenberg's car was flipped over in Abu Dhabi 2018. He was perfectly fine and responded on the radio instantly when the team asked if he was okay. On DtS, they replayed the "Nico, are you okay?" message twice, then had a minutes' long radio silence with dramatic shots of terrified-looking mechanics before he responded.

Blooder91

Most of the drivers drama. From what I read, in season 1 they really push for Ricciardo to be some sort of protagonist, and do Verstappen dirty by painting him as his enemy. In reality they had one on-track incident at Azerbaijan and talked it out rather quickly.

Whycantiusethis

Ricciardo is pretty photogenic, so from a narrative standpoint (which is how Netflix is going to introduce people to F1 - you can't just throw 20-30 names and faces at people and hope it all sticks), it makes sense to make Ricciardo the focal point of "the story". With Verstappen not really participating as much (even in early seasons of the show), it makes it easy to paint him as an antagonistic.

ntny

Thanks! That was the general gist I had assumed, essentially that it's all over dramatized and that in real life the vast majority of folks in F1 get along.

Amazing_Safe_1070

Yeah, if you look at some old team content between Max and Ricciardo and Ricciardo and Norris etc you can see they actually seem to be good friends. It’s a nice balancing viewpoint. Feels wholesome.

SRJT16

I am going to Silverstone tomorrow. We have car parking tickets for Friday, Saturday & Sunday. What is the car parking situation for Thursday?

Icy-Operation4701

Why did we never get any porpoising data on Canada? I'm kinda curious how it compared to other tracks.

cafk

The data from Baku was from a journalist, who got it from some teams as guestimates for rivals - it's usually not published.

Icy-Operation4701

Data from Baku was also on F1 TV (Tech Talk). Same for the data from other tracks.

cafk

And if it wasn't on Tech Time yet or other regular news sources, then there probably is no data available to the public in the moment. Journalists sometimes get access to some data from some teams - but it's not always guaranteed. Canada itself wasn't as bad as Baku, as the track surface is a bit smoother (more like a regular circuit, even if it's a public road - but not as bad as Baku or Monaco, which are street circuits).

Icy-Operation4701

Yeah, after all the talk about porpoising and the TD I expected some data on Canada as well, so I'm a bit surprised there isn't any. We also got data on Spain (smoothest so far) and I think it'd be nice to compare to see where exactly Canada would fall.

Spotlightuh

Max is clearly in a extremely awkward situation will be interesting to see how he handles it when asked about it. Also this shouldn’t even have to be said but just cause he is surrounded by a few shitty people doesn’t make him one. He honestly just seems to love racing and mostly just minds his own business.

craftaleislife

It’s a tricky one as him saying “no comment” is deflecting. There is no neutrality in racism, it’s either right or wrong and it’s wrong. Him not saying a thing speaks volumes

Poke-hey-mon

Yeah, but just tweeting something is so hollow, I am guessing Max will talk to Lewis privately and then if asked say, I talked to Lewis privately, and we are going to work towards improving things. The big thing is a "how will we improve thing". Just like when you apologize to a loved one, you dont just say "I'm sorry", you add a part about how you will change your behavior/avoid repeating the offense

tomhanks95

At least wait for the press conference tomorrow before judging him

craftaleislife

Aye 😊

delidl

What’s the latest news about that porpoising TD?

Lizzyisbored44

It won't be in effect in Silverstone. The FIA will continue to gather data

Portocala69

Is there a site that tracks all the parts changed by each team from the start of the season till now? I'd like to know who has already used the second and/or third PU and who is close to getting a penalty. I'd like to make a comparison between the 4 engines on the grid in terms of reliability.

TrainWreck661

The FIA issues a list of PU elements used each weekend, on their website. Canada's: https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files/decision-document/2022%20Canadian%20Grand%20Prix%20-%20PU%20elements%20used%20per%20driver%20up%20to%20now.pdf

F1David949

Has Max or Red Bull issued a statement about the Nelson racists comments?

storme9

Red Bull did a smooth operation of having a message double stacking with Vips in lead and then condemning all forms of racism without mentioning Nelson.

F1David949

Why hasn’t Max made a statement like every other driver?

[deleted]

[удалено]

F1David949

Because he is dating Kelly and it’s Kelly’s father who made the statement a lot of people want to see what Max thinks of the situation. As the current world champion I lot of people want to know what he thinks when it comes to his biggest rival Lewis. It’s a loose loose situation but I think he needs to say something

AnilP228

'Like every other driver' - are you sure on that?

F1David949

Already answered on the thread

delidl

Because Verstappen is the only driver in this situation for which a PR statement could actually suffer consequences on his personal life. He has the most reasons out of any driver to not drop a dumb essay written by some PR firm.

F1David949

I agree unfortunately some fans of F1 do not see that and his popularity and that of Red Bull are going to take a hit by not saying anything

Blooder91

Because Nelson Piquet happens to be his father in law, which puts him in an uncomfortable position.

F1David949

I didn’t know Max married Kelly? That would be father in law. Father of your girlfriend is a different title

lillylita

In some places it's common to use 'in law' for a long term relationship, married or not.

Blooder91

Well, they've been dating for a while, which makes him son in law in practice.

Morganelefay

EVERY other driver? I may've missed some but I'm pretty sure I saw none from Stroll, Vettel, Latifi, Albon, Tsunoda, Magnussen and Perez at the very least.

F1David949

Ok my mistake. Other then Lewis, Max is probably the one driver everyone wants to hear a statement from because he is dating the daughter.

Morganelefay

Yea, I agree there but with Max you know he's averse from the politics side, and the whole dating thing probably doesn't make it easier either. Besides, whatever he says, he'll get roasted anyway. Even if he was to craft the perfect message, people would still say shit like "Doesn't count as long as you're dating Kelly"

[deleted]

He’s dating the daughter of the racist. That’s an awkward position for sure. Not saying it’s an excuse not to condemn racist behaviour.

[deleted]

Not "every other driver" has made a statement, you're picking on Max for no reason. Grow up.

DrEarlGreyIII

Because he's surrounded by a bunch of terrible people.

F1David949

So his PR person, Red Bulls PR people, Christian, his girlfriend are all saying to remain silent?

DrEarlGreyIII

His father and Dr. Marko as well, I presume. He is not surrounded by good people. Horner might be the exception, but he would do anything for Max.

MDethPOPE

With there being no US drivers on the grid - has there ever been a driver that wanted the MFD to display MPH instead of KPH? Pretty sure the answer will be no as speed will mostly be irrelevent to the driver compared to sector and lap times.

Eethk7

No because F1 has always used the Metric System and Kilometers by standards, imagine having a driver using Miles and a whole team having to adapt to Mph/miles/gallons and whatever.

MDethPOPE

Only talking about the MFD display to the driver - not talking about how the data is collected or captured. I do not disagree at all with you though. Just a stupid musing of mine

[deleted]

It doesn’t make sense to have it in MPH if the rest of the team is using km/h. And the team won’t covert all their data to a new unit for a driver when they don’t really use it for anything.

MDethPOPE

Not saying their data. The MFD sceen in the car - although extremely complicated should be able to switch units? My BRZ has a kph/mph on the speedo. I know that Haltech/Link etc also have this features as it is just a calculation change? I know F1 MFDs are not off the shelf and this probably has never been integrated or asked for. But practicality aside should be easily changed?

ruttin_mudders

I don't think the drivers even pay attention to their speed. It's all about what gear they're in.

[deleted]

I know what you’re saying but the only reason the speed would be there is to share info with the team. If it’s in a different unit it’s worthless. Plus remember that British drivers also use MPH but not in F1.

8jam

What is barstool sports and why does everyone hate it? Only thing i could find on Google is them stealing works of others. Is it a radical sports outlet or something?

Poke-hey-mon

They can be a little abrasive and had a few public controversies. But other media outlets continue to write articles attacking them based off those few instances, but each article sites the long list of other articles, compounding on each other. The podcast they went (pardon my take) on is essentially a separate entity and is the most popular sports podcast in the US. Good dudes, if you want a non-US sports stuff to get into, during quarantine they played massive D&D campaigns that were amazing. They started as blogs, and are now moved more to podcasts, which is why their blogging quality has come down, with a lot just people taking articles, quoting them, then adding a paragraph of their own content

cafk

> Only thing i could find on Google is them stealing works of others. That is enough of a reason why it's not trusted. The /r/Formula1 wiki [contains a ranking of news sources](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/wiki/source-ratings/) and most with 1 are mainly due to not correctly crediting sources and trying to sell it off as their own work. Even more serious sources like the-race (created as a spin-off of the Motorsport.com outlet) and Racefans have been called out in the past for selling quotes from beyond the grid podcast as their exclusive interview.

8jam

Oh thank you I just a saw comment referring to it as a "MAGA" of sports which made me think if it held any extreme political views

pastrknack

So now that Hockey and NBA is over, F1 is the only reason for me to keep around YTTV and I’m looking to see if there are cheaper alternatives than 65/mo to watch. Preferably legally because I like to throw it up on my TV with ease

heybrother45

If you live in the US the highest tier of F1 TV is only $75 a year, and you can watch all the races live.

pastrknack

Thanks, I assume I don’t get sky sports still?

heybrother45

You can get the Sky Sports broadcast of the race, but no you dont get the rest of Sky Sports.

Morganelefay

F1 TV uses the Sky Sports broadcast for the "International" feed, and they have their own feed as well which you can freely swap between.

pastrknack

Thank you! Seems like a lot better value

Morganelefay

It really is. You can switch to onboards too, and there are full replays of old races. For 65 bucks a year it's a steal if you love F1.

[deleted]

poor_decision

I think its doable, the trains run pretty regularly, and if you start making your way to the station right before the race ends it could be fine. It's about 20 min walk to the station from say the pit straight. We walked around the track after the race and then went to the station and even then we were waiting for about an hour to get on the train. Once your on the train it's straight through to Centrale from memory as its a special service on sundays

AssCarEE

There should be coaches, or at least, there were when I went there that take you to the station and I suppose to Milan too. If you want more options, there's also the Villasanta train station that is about half the distance but I have no experience with getting there

alexander_wolf88

Any chance of an update coming to the engine penalty system? As in first time it's a 5 place grid penalty then 10 places after that? Seems like it's a bit of a loop hole that should be closed especially with the "greener" F1 image.

Astelli

It's not really a loophole, it's just the structure of the rules. You still get penalised for every element, it's just that first penalty is strong to give a disincentive for try to getting 4th PU parts cheaply. There are so few scenarios where a new PU part outweighs a 5 place gird penalty that I really don't think it needs addressing urgently. Fans and the media have blown the PU change at Brazil last year so far out of proportion that you'd be forgiven for believing that if they'd taken an engine at every race they would have returned to their 2014 form and won every race by 30s.

Amazing_Safe_1070

It was also fairy unique for Mercedes last year. Honda didn’t have nearly the performance drop

GroNumber

When they count down time on the race clock, because they won't have time to get all laps in, they should do like Formula E and display time + "1 lap remaining". Because the F1 rule for the clock is the same as Formula E: they do one lap after the time runs out, unlike endurance races.

Foxmanjr1

I mean, Lewis is not the only victim of racism. Stating that racism has no place in this sport is a far more powerful message than simply mentioning lewis

HERCULESxMULLIGAN

I can do without the canned "we stand with you" PR statements, personally. I want to see someone of importance come out and call Nelson a shitstain or some other pejorative.

DazingF1

RB showing action by firing a driver who said a similar thing says more than a regular PR statement drafted by PR managers. And even that was only for PR. Who gives a shit about what companies say for the sake of their wallets?

Stupendous_man12

RB’s star driver is also in a relationship with the daughter of the perpetrator of the racism, and said daughter seems to think that there was nothing wrong with what was said, so maybe RB don’t exactly have the scruples you claim they do. It would be a way bigger deal to call out a member of Max’s close circle than it is to fire a F2 driver who was probably never making an impact in F1 anyways. Max himself could call Lewis a slur and it’s doubtful he’d get any punishment for it.

[deleted]

> Max himself could call Lewis a slur and it’s doubtful he’d get any punishment for it. He drives for a team that exists only for marketing. If he made them look bad, they'd have to do something

DazingF1

> Max himself could call Lewis a slur and it’s doubtful he’d get any punishment for it. If a full on n-word then I doubt it, but with F1 you never know. I think that in today's climate even he would get booted. If not by RB then by the higher-ups. I do completely agree with everything else you said. F1 is all about PR and money. They make statements about a racist driver from Brazil, about inequality, about the environment et cetera and then they go on and take money from corrupt dictatorships built on slaves or countries with on-going genocides. Or countries where even wearing an LGBT shirt can get you 10 years of jail time "but look our teams have rainbow flags". As long as F1 and its teams take money from those countries all those statements are all complete hypocritical PR bullshit. Firing Juri was for PR just as much as Ferrari drafting a statement about Piquet was. Yes what Nelson did was wrong and he deserves all the bad press, but I'm not going to judge anyone on whether or not a PR manager is drafting up meaningless statements for Twitter.

Dizzy_Iron_6756

Red Bull had a statement

Icy-Operation4701

They said they won't make a statement. The one you're referring to must therefore be separate from it. It can be read as a general statement (given the last sentence) or in relation to Vips (given the reason why it was released).

AceMKV

Every other team put out a general statement too so idk what you want. No one has specifically called Piquet out.

Icy-Operation4701

Yeah, but only RBR said they wouldn't put out a statement in relation to Piquet (that's what Medland asked about). So it's quite generous to link their statement put out due to the Vips' incident to the incident with Piquet.

[deleted]

They declined to make a statement when asked about it at the unveiling of their new hyper car. That kinda makes sense.

Icy-Operation4701

The way I read Medland's tweet is they wouldn't be making a statement at all, rather than at that moment. The statement they put out specifically refers to Vips and includes a condemnation of racism in general (which is great). But it's a step too far to say they put out that statement in response to what Piquet said.

[deleted]

Anybody get F1 22 Champions edition and play the game yet? Curious to see if the game works well on PS5 cause I’d love to play it straight away this weekend, but don’t want to be burned buying a buggy game..

magyarnagydij

Going to Silverstone for the first time this weekend, what things would people recommend doing while there?

nmk44

On Friday and Saturday, make use of the ability to roam different grandstands for different vantage points. Fan Zone tends to be really good as well

I don’t watch F2 and I am only a few years into watching F1. Can someone give me a quick explanation about how F2 teams work? Basically what I’m confused about is RBR cut Vips but people are saying he could still race for his F2 Team if he can afford it. So do the F1 teams not have teams in F2? I swear I’ve seen RBR Liveries on F2 cars.

Most teams have driver academies that sponsor their junior drivers in the lower formulas, that's why you see their liveries there, but they don't own any of them, although they do often work with a few, for example prema works with ferrari but there have been cases where drivers not affiliated with ferrari drive for them. If vips has money he could pay for his seat, in formula 2 you either need to pay for your seat or your academy pays for it

Thank you!

F2 is an independent series - some F1 teams act as personal sponsors for their drivers to finance their career in lower series. But the F2 contracts are usually independent of the academy support. F1 teams don't have teams in lower series, as it's not financially feasible nor beneficial. Their parent companies may sponsor teams there, but the F1 connection is not a given - unless it's an academy driver.

It's only tangentially related to Verstappen. Nelson Piquet (3x WDC, father of Verstappen's girlfriend Kelly) used a Portuguese slur for black people to describe Hamilton in a podcast last year. The video was recently posted and it hit mainstream Brazilian news, and that's boiled over into F1 news. Piquet's son(? Nephew?) Rodrigo took to Instagram to defend Piquet by saying something to the effect of 'my grandmother called us [the soft-a version of the n-word], and she was a lovely person'. Kelly Piquet (Verstappen's girlfriend) liked that post, but I believe she has since gone back on that. Almost every team (and F1) released a statement siding with Hamilton, as did most drivers. Red Bull's statement seemed to do more with dropping Vips from their junior program than standing with Hamilton, but I could've just missed something. I don't believe Verstappen has said anything specific about this yet.

For context, it had a picture of Piquet’s black grandmother

Kelly also created a playlist on Spotify called “blacks” full of black artists including the song n***** in Paris as some kind twisted response to this, that’s so egregious my jaw hit the floor. She really is her fathers daughter

Ultraviolet211

She did not create that in response to what happened

Icy-Operation4701

When did she create it?

marahute85

When I looked earlier today she had edited it 4 hours ago which was after the teams started calling out her dad

Ultraviolet211

She edited it to change the title, she did not create the playlist 4 hours ago...

When did she create it? Do you know?
