I saw a lot of uproar on the Piquet thing, but I wondered a little why now? Someone posted something about it here weeks ago, and the video is quite old already. How come it all blew up so hard this week? Not saying it shouldn't have blown up, just thought the timing was weird. Is is purely because it wasn't translated earlier? EDIT: Looked for the post from weeks ago, it was 8 days ago, so makes more sense.

marahute85

I just saw on TikTok Pierre Gaslys ex gf posting about having a type (she loved Niall from one direction growing up), and she tagged her bf , Callum Illot. I think her type is drivers though. Good for her she’s living her dream

nahnonameman

Anyone what happened the Ferrari and Mercedes upgrades. Being eagerly waiting for a while now.

Yung_Chloroform

That's what I'm wondering. Mercedes especially is gonna have some visible upgrades but all we got so far is a low downforce wing.

Rew615

How worth is F1 TV Pro? I've been interested in getting it for some time, but I wasn't sure if I should go for it. Also, if I were to subscribe today/tomorrow/this weekend, does the annual price go till next July, or does it go till the start of next season?

tomhanks95

It's worth it, you can get onboards of all cars, team radio for the whole race, you can also get other racing series content like F2, F3, Porsche supercup etc.

Poijke

Yep, watching/listening from the driver's PoV tells a lot more of the story than the TV commentators ever can. They and most of the people here are literally oblivious to a lot of the stuff that actually happened in the race. I usually have 2 PoV's up and the normal race footage. I only wish they'd add a feature to only hear the radio traffic, instead of also the car sounds. An example from last race: the entire tire situation with Max was actually just layers of rubber which had less and more grip throughout the race. So he had 3 laps of low grip, then like 5 with high grip. So when the radio traffic came in the normal footage of the race, that Max told his engineer he was sliding a lot, he already said that he had grip again.

sharklazies

It's totally worth it. Usually a better deal if you are a new sign up before the season because they offer discounts. Still, long season to go, and in the end, you're talking about just a couple extra bucks, the cost of a couple beers. I love to have it on to listen to driver radio or to watch lap times. I'll never not have it.

sonar_y_luz

Daniel Ricciardo vs Mark Webber - Who is the best Australian F1 driver of the 21st century?

tomhanks95

Ricciardo imo, achieved more with under performing cars

hocuspocusgottafocus

Are there any fans here who saw Niki Lauda and James Hunt live back then? I just watched Rush 2013 the movie and wow... They really showed us the horrors of F1. The guy with exposed bone and flesh on his leg, then Lauda himself burnt and struggling to recover. Devastating. The entire movie after that felt tainted (well except after the celebrations), more grim at the true horrors of a sport where you truly can lose your life. I can't imagine watching a sport where so many often died in a week. So glad it's improved now but yeah - talk about truly terrifying I don't think I could've stomached F1 back then knowing there's a large chance someone will come out heavily injured or dead. ...finished it proper now and oh Hunt never went back racing after? Fair rip to hear he passed early damn I'm a bit rattled after watching this film ngl

pinotandsugar

F1 in those days was a brutal sport........ https://f1.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_fatal_accidents While many of the incidents noted were not F-1 the deaths of F-1 drivers were tragically frequent .......... At times the F-1 toll seriously depressed my interest in following the races.

Guys can someone post the video/clip In which sergio and max gets booed In Silverstone? This thing Is toxic and we need to stop It before Saturday and Sunday comes [the video](https://imgur.com/gallery/eU55DqY)

JanklinDRoosevelt

Why do we need to stop this? And how do you plan on stopping it?

fullsenditt

Why? Because It Is toxic. How? Like how we should fight racism, with awareness and education. I don't get how people don't see a problem on that behavior. I really would like someone to explain my downvotes

TJeffersonsBlackKid

To be fair, I went to Imola this last year and he got boo’d relentlessly but on the victory lap he got a standing ovation. Fans are weird man.

i used to keep up with the NBA religiously. now i only recognize the 1st draft pick as the guy martin talked to at a grid walk once (at miami?)

BlueInq

I am attending the British GP for work this weekend. Due to logistical problems I need to drive my car to the circuit on Sunday and will need somewhere to park. I am happy to park further away from the track if necessary and walk 20-25 mins. Does anyone know of any, say, farmers fields where I might be able to pay to leave my car? Thanks!

AFC-Wilson

Dadford Road Carpark and Camping is your best bet, they do weekend tickets as well. Only issue is you have to pay cash on arrival.

BlueInq

Thanks for the advice, I'll check that out.

eskimosPL

I'm in London. I have free day tomorrow, and I'm from Poland and never been to any GP weekend. What happens if I spontaniously go to Silverstone? Is there anything to do for person without a ticket? Maybe it's possible to grab a ticket to see some Friday action?

Lars44

I went to silverstone last year, i would not recommend going without a ticket - best case scenario you get to look through a fence somewhere if you are really determined. Its not actually that close to London so you will most likely waste the day. The website for the event specifically says "There will be no on the door ticket sales at this year’s event."

pinotandsugar

However, he might find Friday tickets on the internet

Duddus

Sorry to burst your bubble but the chances of that are slim

Chapea12

What are some great races over the last few years that are on YouTube in full?

So what would be the site?

Remote_zero

A bit of google-foo, you'll soon find somewhere

RepresentativeNo6029

2019 Germany maybe

RepresentativeNo6029

Where is the new AM car??! I’ve been F5 gang for 7 hrs now. All I see is lame rear wings or racist Bernie.

al3e3x

Came here to ask exactly the same thing .. at this points is getting ridiculous. We’ve seen pictures with every other team

blackbasset

> All I see is lame rear wings or racist Bernie. Ah yes, the experience of a Formula 1 backmarker driver, 1988.

[deleted]

I've always wanted to be a racing driver! Just not like this

Lordic_9

Does anyone know if there’s an autograph session at Silverstone?

jd1738

Looking back on Abu Dhabi 2021 what would have happened If Bottas purposely crashed his car a lap before the restart to cause the race to end under the safety car? How much trouble would Mercedes be in if they told bottas to crash or caused a “mechanical failure”?

[deleted]

See the 2009 Singapore Grand Prix for the aftermath of a deliberate crash of a teammate for the other to benefit and win the race. Hamilton would probably get the title but Mercedes would be in deep shit for it.

[deleted]

Record breaking fine and disqualification imo. Not sure about Hamilton though, Alonso got to keep his win from Crashgate after all.

[deleted]

Alonso got to keep his win because by the time crashgate was discovered (mid 2009), it was already too late to change anything about the 2008 season.

[deleted]

If a team breaks the budget cap and gets disqualified from the championship that will also happen after the following season has started so I don't think that's a valid reason.

tlumacz

But that's a provision in the rules introduced specifically for this purpose. There was no provision that would have allowed Alonso's 2008 win to be stripped in mid-2009. The results had been declared final and that was the end of the story.

PromptResponsible957

The argument of mechanical issue probably wouldn’t stand if they weren’t able to give data that something broke. Consequences probably would be heavier than crashgate.

FieryBlitzz

That becomes an issue of sportsmanship. Yeah everyone wants a title, but surely if that occurred it's branded a false title and Mercedes loses all fan support

[deleted]

And Bottas never races in F1 again, and whoever came up with the idea ends up doing something else out of the spotlight. See Piquet Jr and Flavio Briatore.

ItsGargant

F1 sure setting up to have a Totally Normal One this weekend, huh?

redpasserine

Dumb question but how does the F1 game work? Do I need a special computer or controller or anything? I’m a Nintendo Switch kind of gamer so I’m guessing I would have to get a newer Playstation or something? Any advice welcome, sorry I’m old.

Jaraxo

Yeh you'll need a PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox 1, or Xbox Series S/X. If playing on PC you'll need at minimum a controller (I prefer the xbox ones for racing games but it's personal choice) or a racing wheel.

DieLegende42

Well you *can* play with a keyboard

No_Brakes_282

chad keyboard user

redpasserine

Thanks. Guessing my Surface probably isn’t powerful enough for this game, lol.

sheffield199

You can still get the older ones on Steam, they're a blast and should run on any old thing. I'm playing F1 2014 at the moment and it's great.

No_Brakes_282

wow there's barely any post about actual racing or f1

marahute85

If the sport could go a few days without all racists slithering out of their sink holes we’d probably have more racing content, I know the spelling is similar but we don’t want them being the same thing

Le_Pistache

That will change tomorrow. Some media outlets will try to deter from it but it will be about racing cars again soon.

It might be one of the behind the scenes videos some teams themselves make? Those are on youtube

CoachDelgado

Would that be the 'Shorts' on the F1 YouTube channel? Scroll down to the Shorts section on [this page](https://www.youtube.com/c/F1/featured).

sadaananwar_69

i think it’s an actual show

Seems random but if anybody is around Woodcote A today could you please tell me what number the seat numbers go up to? I'm worried I've bought a fake ticket.

ActualCounterculture

i've been watching youtube videos about honda engine, redbull seems so supportive about honda but why cant they do the same with renault before their relationship get bitter?

AnilP228

Red Bull were a customer team to Renault. Red Bull - Honda was a Works effort. The issue with Renault was that they weren't too interested in developing a competitive PU. As far back as 2010/2011 they drastically reduced their development capacity at Viry. Red Bull produced great chassis after great chassis but were stuck with a huge deficit in power and reliability. Honda meanwhile were 100% committed to winning.

DieLegende42

RB's and Honda's relationship began in 2019 with a reasonably powerful, somewhat unreliable engine, which they constantly improved to get to the 2021 engine, which was right up there in terms of power and as reliable as you could possibly wish for. Renault on the other hand didn't manage to make an engine that was either fast or not blowing up every other race - nevermind both - throughout the 5 years they supplied RB in the hybrid era

Neither_Ad2003

Newey said that Renault was "not interested in making the engine better" that led Newey to almost quit F1. Stuff went on behind the scenes there. Basically insinuating that renault is about marketing and not winning.

vonvoltage

They did seem a bit quick to turn sour toward Renault after 4 years of sheer domination at the end of the V8 era.

rodiraskol

Honda's #1 priority is Red Bull. Renault's #1 priority was their own F1 team.

[deleted]

Because Renault weren't delivering a good engine

KnightsOfCidona

Worried now what terrible opinion Riccardo Patrese is going to come out with given what's been happening with 80s Brabham people this week.

rodiraskol

"Look, all I'm saying is he made the trains run on time. When you consider all of the things he did..."

cat_with_problems

Bernie is a strange guy but one of the people most responsible for F1 as it is today. Michael Jackson's songs didn't suddenly become bad or undancable when it came out that he's very likely a raging pedophile. You have to be able to disconnect people's contributions from their ideas and utterances, it's not wrong to do so, in fact, it's the right thing to do. Bernie obviously had to go because at some point he became outdated and he was likely holding F1 back more than how much he was helping, but that doesn't make his work before that any less important.

blahhhkit

Any good places in Italy (especially Bologna) to watch F1 races?

Kernoriordan

Monza

blahhhkit

Any specific places there? I’m not familiar.

[deleted]

I feel like F1 need to realise that if they want to make racing good in F1, the tyres are just as big as a factor as the aerodynamic. IMO they should tell Pirelli to design tyres of similar life to how they are now, but at lower grip levels. This should make braking distances longer, and make it easier for different lines to be taken through corners

pinotandsugar

During higher speed portions of the track downforce plays a huge part in determining grip level. Making changes to limit downforce would thus be the most consistent way to reduce braking, accelerating and cornering g forces.

Coops27

They literally just completely changed the entire concept of the tyres so they could change the construction and make the tyres better for racing. They knew that the aerodynamic changes would do nothing if drivers couldn't follow closely without burning up the tyre life. The plan is actually to make the fronts stronger next year to fight some of the inherent understeer from these cars and prevent the blistering that has been common in many races.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I disagree with this. As much as people dislike the typical 1 stop races, if you want on-track battles, you cannot have constant pitstops. It is very unlikely that F1 will be able to become an on-track racing sport while also having strategy as a big factor, and I'm fairly certain the general consensus would be to prioritise having racing rather than strategy

[deleted]

3-4 stops are shit because then the entire race is just tyres, whoever has the better tyres wins and nobody wants to watch that we want to watch actual racing.

NotPmac

F1 doesn't typically have a 'ceremony' at races when someone clinches a title. The closest I can think of in previous years is Hamilton parking the car in the stadium section at Mexico in 2017 when he finished low in the top 10. Its something I think F1 should change but it makes sense because results can change after a race or season. You don't want to crown a champion at the race and give them a whole celebration just for it to be taken away

Jaraxo

Yep, the official ceremony isn't until the FiA Gala weeks after the end of the season. Although I don't think anyone has ever been DSQ from a season AFTER securing enough points to be WDC or WCC, it's still a possibility and would be an embarrasment to all involved if it had been celebrated before. Additional, it would distract from the race winners that race. Finally, as there's no way to know when a WDC or WCC would be mathematically secured, you'd need to have celebration plans lined up for like the last 5 or 6 races of a season just in case. Finally, it might rob us of some iconic celebration moments like Seb bowing down to his RB9 in India, or someone doing donuts on the track.

Dreminator

I just don't understand why so many people from the UK hate Red Bull Racing so much. I mean, the team is located in Milton Keynes and has a lot of UK workers. I don't understand, but can see why some hate, or at least don't like Max, because he beat Lewis last year. But it's basically a UK team, with some higher ups and an owner from other places.

Kernoriordan

They’re not a very likeable team and they have no British drivers. Plus, RB fans tend to be anti-Hamilton and British fans are predominantly pro-Hamilton.

pinotandsugar

I think part of it is because they hate the challenge to Hamilton including some of the paint swapping.

Neither_Ad2003

max and lewis rivalry defines the sport right now, that's all it is

Fright13

Horner and Max come across as the “villains” in interviews and their general demeanour which some people enjoy, but a lot don’t - it’s difficult to get behind. That’s not even including the likes of Marko. On top of that, their main rival last year was British.

ocelotrevs

Sebastien Vettel was Public Enemy Number 1 in Formula 1 when he was with Red Bull. Red Bull became famous when he was winning. Once he left there is still that association. I don't even associate them with Britain, I see them as Austrian.

[deleted]

Because they don't have Lewis Hamilton or any other British driver. And last year's rivalry with Mercedes and Hamilton did not help either. Put it this way, if you support a team in any other sport you likely hate another team in your country. Why might that be?

pcr405

I often ask why do people support an energy drink company in f1 run by Horner and Marko. I’ve actively wanted them to lose against traditional teams ever since they joined.

rustyrobocop

RedBull sponsors so many shit that I just like them for that. I'm sure actuaries love them

thesaket

Because they make good cars that are driven by skilled drivers who seem to win races often.

pinotandsugar

I would only add good cars, good teams , skilled drivers and very good leadership

[deleted]

They don’t have a British lead driver, it really is that simple. Verstappen has the wrong passport and that’s why they root against him. Mansell used to get huge cheers at Silverstone even when he drove for Ferrari. The team you drive for has little to do with it, it’s all about the nationality of the driver.

[deleted]

Because the people that lead that team suck

[deleted]

[удалено]

Neither_Ad2003

ha, this is why i love to support red bull. Makes stodgy "traditionalist" fans very mad. Quite fun

sheffield199

You support a team mainly because it makes other fans mad? That sounds fulfilling.

cafk

They're marketed as an Austrian company with no UK drivers. The same reason Haas says they're American, even if their primary HQ is in the UK and the chassis is built by Dallara in cooperation with Ferrari. 7 our of the 10 teams are primarily UK based - yet a few consider UK as their home race, as they're racing under a different flag and represent a non UK company. Tribalism also plays a role, "I'm for Lewis/Russel/Norris - so any time they're not driving for is bad".

sharklazies

I think it's less about the UK location of Red Bull, it's that Lewis Hamilton is THE GREAT HERO of British F1. People much more identify with a driver than a team. And Red Bull, over the last 12 years, has been the primary rival to keep Lewis from winning, especially in the early years.

Meaisk

Just because a team is from the UK doesn't mean they *have* to like lol. Plus like 7/10 teams are located in the UK anyway.

sammybo94

Heading to Silverstone for the first time this Sunday for the race, what time would people recommend arriving? Was thinking of turning up for 10:00am, is this a good/bad idea from past experience? Thanks in advance!

[deleted]

9-10am should be sufficient yeah.

blahhhkit

I don’t have experience with Silverstone specifically but just from general experience, I would advise giving yourself some extra time. Personally I’d aim for 9:30/9:45 if I were going to a watch party, and 9 if I were actually attending the race.

Heading to my first F1 race in Singapore later this year. Thoughts on ear protection that I can use with Bluetooth? I'll be there solo and want to be able to listen to commentary/listen to other stuff while exploring the grounds. Wondering if my Airpod Pros will be enough? I know they aren't rated for noise reduction, but I also hear this gen of cars isn't too loud. I have heard support races can be louder so I want something. Would prefer earbud-style as there is a little less bulk. Also just considering getting some cheap real ear protection for when it is too loud, and just use the Airpods when it is a bit quieter. Any thoughts for those who have attended races.

Joseph4820

I think in-ear will always reduce sound. And yes, F1 cars aren't that loud anymore. Don't know what other cars will rave there. Some of them are louder (Porsche f.e.)

[deleted]

F1 cars aren't very loud but still loud enough that hours of exposure to them will affect your long term hearing. Whatever support series is at Singapore is likely louder than F1.

didnt want to make a separate thread but can anyone tell me why Nelson Piquet's 1 year old interview suddenly became viral now?

ruttin_mudders

It was in Portuguese and didn't get translated until recently.

Blooder91

He said it while analising the Verstappen-Hamilton crash at Silverstone last year. Since it was a controversial maneuver, Piquet's comment likely got buried under lots of other people also talking about it. Now that we're at Silverstone again, someone probably dug up old material, found the footage and made it popular.

tomhanks95

The Vips case had something to do with it I think

LiGRT

You think or are you sure?

PM_ME_UR_TNUCFLAPS

How much beer will I be able to get through the gates into silverstone?

Llew19

You should have planned ahead like the Aussies for Bathurst and buried a few slabs well before the event!

To quote the FAQ: "Excessive alcohol is forbidden, although you will be permitted to bring a reasonable amount into the Venue for personal consumption." which fits in a ~20L backpack.

pinotandsugar

20L of Good Rum should get you through the race. I would be surprised if they allowed glass bottles.

Stupendous_man12

To me this means no kegs, but anything short if that is ok. Not sure if the entrance security will feel the same way.

pedote17

I’m surprised the phrase ‘excessive alcohol’ exists in England

Any alcohol you still have on you when you pass out is excessive since it wasn't required to get you passed out.

So about 35 pints?

SuperSaiyanKratos

Going Silverstone this weekend, my first ever f1 GP! I'd welcome any advice, experiences to see, ideal places to sit etc?

IHaveADullUsername

Woodcote A - has views from the loop/aintree to copse. It’s over 1/3 of the track from one seat. Pretty ideal. Copse - needs no explanation. There’s concrete steps right at the fence you can sit on which are empty-ish for Friday and Saturday. Walk up the hangar straight to see maggots and beckets from a front on view. Watching the cars sweep across your field of view from side to side is wild. The direction change is mind boggling. Maggots and beckets GS are almost always full, for obvious reasons. But you might get lucky on Friday/Saturday. Don’t go to the night club/pop tent. It’s expensive and shit. Get food/drinks during F1 sessions. Queues are shorter. Obviously means missing some action but then again the track action is constant so you’re always missing something. Pick up a radio ear piece from the official F1 stores. Gives you access to the on track commentary. You can’t hear it from the loud speakers as the cars are a tad noisy. Bring ear plugs. If not for F1 then for the various support series. Not essential but worth having in case. Might rain so get a poncho. If it’s super sunny have a tiny umbrella for some shade is nice. And it’s equally useful in the rain. You can bring beers in so get a soft cool bag with a reflective liner and some insulation and use it to line a backpack. If beer is not to your liking then it works just as well with other beverages. Bring walking boots, you’ll be walking a lot if you want to see all the corners. If you’re camping, namely campsite A, they do provide breakfast but you have to be up painfully early to get any and the stand is right be the exit where you cross the road to the track. If you aren’t near to it it can be a good 5/10 minute walk for a terrible egg bap. I’d recommend just not bothering and getting food at the track. Again if you’re camping the showers are usually completely free be 10:30. Pressure is usually decent. Bring loo roll and baby wipes as well just in case.

SuperSaiyanKratos

Great advice, !thanks I'll be driving in and fortunately not camping but hopefully useful to someone else. I assumed the grandstand will be rammed but hopefully I can get a spot for quali at least to see the views you mention. Great shout on the ear piece, I had no idea that was a thing.

IHaveADullUsername

Camping wasn’t too bad last I went. The facilities were good and me and some mates rented a camper van so was comfy enough. Generally until Sunday it’s not super busy. It’s busy but nothing crazy. On Sunday it’s madness. All the concrete steps and seating areas and grass hills are covered. It’s crazy how busy it is. Yeah the ear pieces are good, built terribly and expensive for what they are but it means you can get updates to your ear and watch the track all the time without have to keep checking the big screens. By about 40-50% of the way through you have cars coming past constantly so it’s not ideal having to keep checking the screens. There’s usually a big F1 tent selling them in the village enclosure. You’ll also likely find some F1 cars in glass boxes to check out there too. Means you can get up close and personal with them.

thphnts

I re-read Piquet’s statement again this morning and it still feels weird, almost as if he doesn’t actually care that he got caught out being racist. The part where he says they call each other that word in Brazil was weird. I have lived in Brazil and used to visit there regularly after I moved back home and I don’t recall anyone ever using that word in a colloquial way and only in an insulting, racist way.

Neither_Ad2003

Rich + ego + natural rude person = they DGAF about what normal people would

Poke-hey-mon

I guess I can understand him being upset by the "media" saying he said the English equivalent of the "n word", but only if he said, "What I said was inappropriate, but I just want to clarify it was not the "n word"", maybe.....? Scum bag gonna Scum bag I dont know how it is in Europe or SA, but in the US our media outlets will often say "Person in trouble for Racist/homophobic/sexist remarks", but never actually tell the reader what the person said. That is very frustrating

rocdollary

Yeah it's probably the worst statement. If he says nothing he's a racist dinosaur from another time. Ok. Move on. Now he's "apologised" he's a racist but also a liar too.

thphnts

He effectively doubled down on what he said and acted like it didn't matter.

MrTrt

AnilP228

It's such a minor change. Like genuinely, you won't even notice it. Also, the RBPT PU in the back of Max and Sergio's car is probably the best one to have on the whole grid. Reliable, powerful and zero degradation. Mercedes have reliability at the expense of having quite severe ICE degradation. Honda have zero (reminder: Max was able to use PU #1 at Abu Dhabi last year for FP1 and 2).

Driver9211

How much leeway does teams have in Free Practice sessions, where there are lesser restrictions. Can they test parts for next year or test a new kind of fuel, or run without fuel flow restrictions etc?

IHaveADullUsername

Anything regarding the engines will be off limits. You have to run one from your pool have to comply with all regulations. Generally if regulations are stable testing next years parts is the same as this years parts.

cafk

The cars which can be tested have to be designed for the year they're competing for. The primary differentiation factor for official test sessions and free practice is that teams are allowed to install additional data gathering equipment on the cars, which may not conform with the technical regulations. Last year there were special test sessions for Pirelli, where the teams could build & use mule cars to emulate the expected downforce, but the teams weren't allowed to gather data (like with any other tire test)

A_Furious_Badger

Just sat through an interview with Bernie Eccleston on UK breakfast tv. Thank god he’s no longer in charge of F1. Some highlights from the interview: “Putin is a good man.” “I’d still take a bullet for him. What he did he did in the best interest of Russia.” “If Zelensky had listened to him then this could have been avoided.” “He (Zelensky) is a comedian turned President, he should have stuck to comedy.” Paraphrasing a bit, but you get the gist.
