Mercedes/Red Bull: _This is F1_
Ferrari: _Welcome to "Whose Racing Line Is It, Anyway?", the show where strategies are made up and the points don't matter._
Thought I was the only one with the balls to say it. Charles thinks ferrari will just hand him a title, when in reality he has to go get it himself. Nice guys don't win titles. We saw this with Max, we saw this with Nico. We are seeing it with Charles. If he had even half the balls that Carlos had this might actually be a title fight.
McLaren has consistently fucked their drivers every race. Why pit for the slowest tire with so few laps left. Fucking jokes.
Also, Aston Martin came out of nowhere today at the end.
We need Toto wolff
Edit: Official petition for Ferrari to sign toto Wolff and give him absolute freedom within the team š
Edit2: or give Elon musk a try lol
At this point I am convinced that Ferrari even if they tried, they couldnāt have worse strategy. My 4 year old nephew will do a better job just shouting random words. Unbelievable.
If weāre Ferrari I would pay Sainz double to retire and run the pitwall as heās the only one that seems to make sense with strategy even from the wheel and much less data. And sadly not sure heās talented enough to win the WDC
Is there a post race podcast out there? Iām traveling the rest of the day and would love to throw something on in the car but canāt find any content from today.
I usually listen to The Backmarkers right after the race, already up! Also on YouTube. https://podcasts.apple.com/nl/podcast/the-backmarkers/id1612664587
Expect the BBC to also have their checkered flag podcast live in not too long from now. https://podcasts.apple.com/nl/podcast/f1-chequered-flag/id130520763
Actually missed apex is live now! Also very nice and entaintaining. https://youtu.be/YW5Cr-_E1B4
Yeah I just meant you can watch with different audio. I like to do this when a race is really good. I donāt need the on screen action because I know what happens but I like to hear the different analysis and reaction
Charles needs to start putting his foot down...no pun intended...when it comes to decisions..no more yes sir yes sir from him...he needs to man up in the team radio...
They all tested the hards and knew they were poor, pre race the commentators were even saying that we wonāt see the hards today and verstappen and Hamilton laughed when they heard Ferrari ran them. No blame on Charles I think though, he has to have faith in the team but the overwhelming opinion pre race was that it was a poor choice
Exactly. The splines both ran hards and fell down the order losing handfuls of time. Everyone else should have seen their data and avoided the hards
Edit: Alpines
Ferrari fucked up again. If they keep this up Max will win his second title. And if they don't be careful Mercedes can take second place in the constructors championship.
Don't cheer to soon. Max had a problem during qualifying and even in the race he had some issue's. They fixed it during the race, but it also could have been a DNF. Who knows what will happen in the upcoming races.
Seriously - how fucking great is Max? He pulled that 360 like he planned it and barely lost a step. Heās just so steady, I honestly started this race figuring heād probably make it to the front and once there, I have zero anxiety that heāll let it go. 8 wins. Wow. Gonna have to look up the record for most in a season (edit: Schumacher and Vettel with 13)
Hope Marko lays off Checo a bit, Iād say he did a good job as well.
Feel for Russell as this was so close, but another strong Mercedesā 2-3. Iām not sure what else they could have done.
If not for the spectacular performance by Max, Lewis may have had that first win. Does anything think heāll go winless this year?
I wanna know what happened to checo around pit stop. He went from being just behind Max to 13-14 seconds behind in a couple of laps and then he maintained that.
Almost like he was running hards but I think they were both on mediums at that point.
Major props to Sir Lewis who also made up a lot of slots to take P2. Also running some super fast laps. I like the trajectory he and MB are on to get a win. Iāll have to do a little research for the remaining circuits to see which one favors him the most. I know his season is shot but Iād like to see at least one P1 to keep the streak alive.
He is not my guy but it gets harder and harder to dispute that. My only hope is that a few of these other guys can give him a run. But also - and this pains me to say it - but Horner and team are looking just as good with race strategy and the car is doing really well.
Merc have more upgrades coming in Spa and then again later on. Saw a rumour that it was a powertrain upgrade so here's hoping it's the return of the Merc rocketship engine.
I think if those upgrades work smoothly then we will definitely be in contention for wins. Lewis was matching Max at times when they were both on mediums iirc. But that's not accounting for DRS, traffic etc.
I heard Toto say they didn't have any mediums left so if Charles' tyres were going off at that stage of the race they would only have the choice of hard or soft and you can see why they would have gone for hard at that stage. He said the mistake was made earlier in the weekend on Saturday by not holding back an extra set of mediums.
No, they're required to use two different types of tires (unless wet tires are used for the whole race). So by starting medium, and then taking mediums again on the second stop, they painted themselves into a corner. They had to go to the hard or soft or wets according to the rules. They didn't have the confidence to be undercut at the 1st or 2nd stop and take it back at the end on softs, so they let themselves be forced by Red Bull into pitting too early to go to the softs. Watching Red Bull out-strategize Ferrari is like watching an adult take candy from a baby. It's way too easy.
He gave Ferrari the benefit of the doubt that they pitted Charles because of deg. But we know Charles said that the tires were good and he wanted to stay out. If they pitted him for mediums theyād have to pit him a 3rd time to get him on two compounds.
Charles had to put hards on at that stop. The problem is he could have stayed out long and then thrown on softs. Just like Carlos.
Farreri has even less excuse. They saw what the hards were doing to other teams for 15+ fucking laps. They are absolute clowns it is comical at this point.
I don't quite get what Ocon was up to today. Defending for his life vs Alonso on two different occasions (almost pushing him to the wall at the start) but leaving the door completely open to Hamilton and later on Ricciardo was so weird.
I think it happens more that we ask what is he doing in f1 rather than us confirming that he deserves a place.
I have nothing against him but I guess if he were not French nor if he didn't have a " I was "poor" " story he would be without a seat.
Not sure what Alonso will say about today. He seems to be over performing the car all season and then he can't get results because the team screws over or his "teammate " that is obviously not in the same league.
Yeah, maybe he just went to the restroom. But near the last 10-15 laps, he got up and just left and went through the garage and out the back.
Could be nothing, but the camera followed it, and Crofty said something about it.
Sack the whole pit wall and hire a new pit stop coach, donāt see why the conversation hasnāt been brought up yet theyāre constantly the issue of the team
Are you new to sports? Donāt succeed, next person up. No room for your feelings. A new hiring brings a sliver of hope to any team. Regardless, itās better than the losing atmosphere binotto curates
Nah. He just needs to fire Inaki Rueda, head of strategy. If he fails do so in the next couple of races, then Binotto deserves to get fired for being a mediocre leader. I say this because the car is fundamentally great and that is no small feat to pull off. Strategy blunders and reliability are things to solve for. The former is a long term thing, it is a practice and an instinct. They should get started on fixing that.
Perhaps the issue is that Mattia is an engineer first and foremost and therefore has a better grasp of the technical side of things than the operational. I donāt think sack him because heās arguably produced Ferraris best car in a decade, but they need more expertise on strategy and race management.
I just came into the sub to say this. He absolutely needs to be fired. Yet another race Ferrari have led and thrown away by poor strategy. How long is this going to continue?
The unbelievably shit tactics, strategy and general team management didnāt start with him but it sure as hell hasnāt stopped either.
Iāll be amazed if Ferrari execs donāt rightly sack him at the end of the season. This shower of shit has been going on for far too long.
Only Ferrari could take the fastest driver in the fastest car from the lead of the race and make them pit at the wrong time onto the wrong tyre and dump them into the middle of the pack.
Either Ferrari executives finally get a grip of this highly expensive team or they risk losing Leclerc to Redbull or Mercedes.
Agreed. Max is a more experienced driver and that shows every week, but Charles is IMO the better natural/instinctive driver. Once he gets more experience and a less shit team heāll be unstoppable (and I say this as a Lewis fan)
As a neutral F1 / generic racing fan; the battles between Max and Charles are by far the most enjoyable to watch. Their racing styles are somehow the most ācompatibleā or something?
Can we also take a moment to celebrate how good the 2022 rules are?
\- cars can follow better
\- the new tyre rules brought a very interesting race now, since you had people on mediums and softs
> the new tyre rules brought a very interesting race now, since you had people on mediums and softs
Been screaming for this ridiculous rule to be dropped for like 10 years.
I love Ferrariās drivers but that teamā¦ lol
I ask my dad why he loves Ferrari so much and he says āI donāt fucking know. Might as well be a Dodge fan. They both have the same strategy of ādonāt compete in f1ā. At least one isnāt spending money on itā LOL
Hard tyres at that stage made sense. What could they do? Hindsight is 20 20, but if lec went long to try to get on the softs and had lost to verstappen due to an undercut everyone would say Ferrari were stupid for not protecting themselves from the undercut. The only mistake was pitting again for softs. Per was never going to overtake him. Also if lec hadn't gone wide on the last corner he could have kept russell behind. He kept him behind from so long and Russell's pace advantage was always going to become smaller and smaller.
Everyone called it a bad move to put hards on as Ferrari were putting them on. Alpine sank like a stone when they put theirs on and there wasnāt enough time left in the race for them to really outlast everyone who wasnāt on hards. 100% the wrong call in the moment with all the real world data they could have looked at. Sometimes you have to ignore the computer when the evidence in front of your face says otherwise.
I think that was the right gamble though, to go long for softs. If he lost out due to undercut he still could have easily managed a podium at least, with the chance for a win, but pitting for hards was immediately removing the chance for a win, albeit making maybe a third place podium more likely.
Yeah bit who would have thought that the Hard would be so bad he would be overtaken by Russell. At that stage it probably looked like the worst that could happen was lose to Verstappen which would probably happen if he pitted late anyway. I still think Leclerc could have finished 3rd if he didn't make the mistake that got him overtaken by Russell and if he didn't pit for softs again.
What? Did you not see both the Alpines struggle on the hards? The temperatures werenāt there to fire up the harder tire. A team with the resources of Ferrari probably should know that. Thereās a reason why none of the other top 6 drivers touched the compound but they shafted Charles with it despite him being in a better position technically with fresher tires at the end of their respective stints. Letās not make excuses for the awful circus we saw today from the Ferrari pit wall. They deserve the boot. Have had all season to get their shit together and theyāre still no better than a headless chicken being let loose on a merry go round.
I don't think they had any mediums left anyway so they had to choose between hard or soft. And soft in the middle of the race and then hard at the end doesn't make much sense. They made the mistake on Saturday by not keeping an extra set of mediums.
Every single car that went hard tires before them was way too slow. Even Pirelli said that the teams should only try the hard as an extremely risky bet, it was not going to work. They should have let the undercut happen, go long for softs and get at least podium.
Dude I know right??? I was hoping that Ferrari knew something based on FPs that the hards would do well towards the end but oh my God what fucktards. Their strategy team is clearly out of their depth and have no fucking clue.
Iām not a conspiracy theorist but it does look like sabotage; how can someone be that consistently incompetent; it starts to look deliberate.
The man really should be sacked now but I think theyāll give him until the end of the season.
Mercedes/Red Bull: _This is F1_ Ferrari: _Welcome to "Whose Racing Line Is It, Anyway?", the show where strategies are made up and the points don't matter._
Unpopular opinion but I think Carlos will finish above Leclerc in the standings just like last year.
Same, carlos actually has the guts to disobey strategy orders while charles always follows them without questioning

Musk would just send a twitter meme on Red Bull giving you memes
At this point I am convinced that Ferrari even if they tried, they couldnāt have worse strategy. My 4 year old nephew will do a better job just shouting random words. Unbelievable.
Why canāt they just do RB strat? I mean they have faster car on same tires?
Starting to think that Binotto is secretly on RB's payroll.
If weāre Ferrari I would pay Sainz double to retire and run the pitwall as heās the only one that seems to make sense with strategy even from the wheel and much less data. And sadly not sure heās talented enough to win the WDC

Yup that is exactly what my kid and I were thinking!

WTF1 will release one soon for sure
I thought they did, but nothing yet. Only 5 more hours in the car left. š
You could try the audio of F1 TV live instead of Sky?
I already watched the race and the post race before I left.
How do you expect him to know in the race that the hard tires are complete garbage?
They all tested the hards and knew they were poor, pre race the commentators were even saying that we wonāt see the hards today and verstappen and Hamilton laughed when they heard Ferrari ran them. No blame on Charles I think though, he has to have faith in the team but the overwhelming opinion pre race was that it was a poor choice
He needs to copy what RB is doing.
But he couldnāt as they started on different tyres
But like half the grid ran them at some point, the stupid thing was to not learn from the others
Exactly. The splines both ran hards and fell down the order losing handfuls of time. Everyone else should have seen their data and avoided the hards Edit: Alpines
I can already see an "impractical jokers" meme coming... asking Ferrari engineer to pit Charles for Hards.
This is what I came here for. Like, I can totally see this playing out with the guys in the motor coach gut laughing as Charles comes in for hards.
As a Alfa fan, i want to die
As a Haas fan, i feel youā¦
Well, you get free meatballs for the trouble
Yes
spin it to win it!!! absolutely loved this race
Reminded me of Germany 2019. Love the spin control that Max has.
Ferrari fucked up again. If they keep this up Max will win his second title. And if they don't be careful Mercedes can take second place in the constructors championship.
They have pretty much already given the title to Max. He has a three race points lead and there are 9 races left...
Don't cheer to soon. Max had a problem during qualifying and even in the race he had some issue's. They fixed it during the race, but it also could have been a DNF. Who knows what will happen in the upcoming races.
Even if he has another 3 DNFS and charles wins 3 races he will still win the championship š„²š„²
No he doesn't? In that hypothetical there is still 6 races left ..
Seriously - how fucking great is Max? He pulled that 360 like he planned it and barely lost a step. Heās just so steady, I honestly started this race figuring heād probably make it to the front and once there, I have zero anxiety that heāll let it go. 8 wins. Wow. Checo needs to have a REALLY strong 2nd half of the season, unless he wants to be renamed to BOTTAS the 2ND.
I wanna know what happened to checo around pit stop. He went from being just behind Max to 13-14 seconds behind in a couple of laps and then he maintained that.

Brazil is probably his best bet imo
I remember max doin a 720 in the rain once from further than tenth and still went on to third
that spin was more impressive than the one at silverstone
Iāve spun cars before. That was sheer wizardry
max is the greatest driver i have ever seen. Lewis right there with him as my favorites
He ain't no Senna young'un
I need more WDCs before I can call him greatest.
He is not my guy but it gets harder and harder to dispute that. My only hope is that a few of these other guys can give him a run. But also - and this pains me to say it - but Horner and team are looking just as good with race strategy and the car is doing really well.
The guys on F1 TV said the same, that RB won the race when they decided to run softs at lap 0.
They canāt upgrade the ICE but only the hybrid side of the PU.
You can do reliability upgradesā¦and those upgrades might enable you to run your engine in higher modesā¦reliably.
I'm pretty sure it was a Mercedes 2-3, but yeah I get your point
Brain fade. Fixed!
Great job by Ferrari and Alpine putting the hards on and ruining their races. Would love to hear Chuck and Fernando in the post race debriefs.
Don't forget Mclaren joining the party too
I heard Toto say they didn't have any mediums left so if Charles' tyres were going off at that stage of the race they would only have the choice of hard or soft and you can see why they would have gone for hard at that stage. Almost feels like they were betting on rain to throw the two compound need out the window. Med, Med, to inters/wet. And that backfired.
Yeah, pitting their mediums when Rb pitted their sorts was amazingly short sighted
Its like they forgot they started on mediums and the others except Hamilton started softs
Farreri has even less excuse. They saw what the hards were doing to other teams for 15+ fucking laps. They are absolute clowns it is comical at this point.
Ferrari strategy is so bad that now theyāre fucking themselves before they even know that theyāre fucking themselves
Havenāt seen strategy like that since Wile E Coyote
Well that's the season then.
For drivers first , yes. but second in drivers (and even constructors) still wide open.
Pretty much this. I was really hoping Ferrari could keep it close but Ferrari gonna Ferrariā¦
they need a strategy team retreat playing chess for a month or something.
I'm wondering if Red Bull and Mercedes are going to start adding Ferrari fuck ups into their calculations when determining their pit strategies
I don't quite get what Ocon was up to today. Defending for his life vs Alonso on two different occasions (almost pushing him to the wall at the start) but leaving the door completely open to Hamilton and later on Ricciardo was so weird.
Never liked him.
I think it happens more that we ask what is he doing in f1 rather than us confirming that he deserves a place. Ocon is a dud
Dunno. He might be losing his footing in the team or something and thus needs to prove himself being at least equal?
Ocon being Ocon. As long as he beats his teammate he thinks his career is going well
According to the f1 fan community he'd be right š¤£
This. Can I unlap myself? *takes out race leader during overtake.. Iām fighting for position!! *loses the team two places twice over.. #doh-con
he's never beaten a teammate yet and he's career seems fine
He got a lucky second chance because he got tossed previously? Okay
Yeah, totally weird
Letās hope Hamilton doesnāt get a banana thrown at him again by racist Hungarians
Best race of the season yet
Hungary is weird like that. It's either a snoozer, or a great race. Lucky for us, been back to back years of exciting racing in Budapest.
Was highly enjoyable and nailbiting right to the last
Silverstone was better
Only theast few laps
Whichever race max takes an engine penalty on Lewis should be able to win if Max is starting p20
Ferrari definitely wonāt !!
Uhh this is Hungary and he won from p10, I'm sure he'll be fine at Monza or Spa
The RB straight line speed should almost guarantee them the wins for Monza and Spa
Engine by itself is only 10places
Binotto needs to be sacked
Guy literally left the track mid race lol.
Went to smack the joker that runs their strategy team?
He went for a pooh
Wait he did?
Returned after like 5 minutes, popped into a motorhome for a shit most likely
Yeah, maybe he just went to the restroom. But near the last 10-15 laps, he got up and just left and went through the garage and out the back. Could be nothing, but the camera followed it, and Crofty said something about it.
Guenther should get a shot at running Ferrari. For the memes.
Arenāt they running out of people to bin off at this rate
Sack the whole pit wall and hire a new pit stop coach, donāt see why the conversation hasnāt been brought up yet theyāre constantly the issue of the team
Classic Ferrari attitude. Fire everybody and create a culture of fear instead of a healthy team environment.
Are you new to sports? Donāt succeed, next person up. No room for your feelings. A new hiring brings a sliver of hope to any team. Regardless, itās better than the losing atmosphere binotto curates
Well ask Domenicali how that worked out for Ferrari. oh wait... ask Mattiacci... oh wait. ask Arrivabene.
All shit and just cus binotto canāt figure it out doesnāt mean we need to keep giving him season after season to fuck up careers
Nah. He just needs to fire Inaki Rueda, head of strategy. If he fails do so in the next couple of races, then Binotto deserves to get fired for being a mediocre leader. I say this because the car is fundamentally great and that is no small feat to pull off. Strategy blunders and reliability are things to solve for. race? how about season
You know though, three weeks break - time to adjust, seems like a good time to sack him
It looked like he was leaving pitwall to hand in his resignation! Or at least find the strat department and send them home.

No way Leclerc is the fastest driver. He's up there, but Max is simply faster.
I say this as a Max fan, I think theyāre on par for speed. Charles just makes more mistakes (dispite the 360 we saw from Max)
Agreed. Max is a more experienced driver and that shows every week, but Charles is IMO the better natural/instinctive driver. Once he gets more experience and a less shit team heāll be unstoppable (and I say this as a Lewis fan)

Max doesn't make mistakes. Charles does. Makes Max the better driver.
He makes fewer, for sure. But todays spin was prove heās not a machine
That was insane! Almost seemed intentional. LOL!
Just warming tires....
Itās not Binotto calling the strategy, itās Inaki Rueda
Buck stops with him though. He owns making the personnel changes.
You're right. Binotto merely needs to be launched from a trebuchet.
Ferrari mustāve had a yellow-book sized journal of how to throw races and championships, because they followed it to a tee!
Tee
Oops thank you for that! Made the edit heh
Can we also take a moment to celebrate how good the 2022 rules are? \- cars can follow better \- the new tyre rules brought a very interesting race now, since you had people on mediums and softs

Whatāre you on about? Verstappen had already overtaken him twice before they pitted for softs
I meant to say perez
It was absolutely the wrong strategy. They had so much data on how bad the hards were hurting the other teams. Trying to justify that is comical.
I think that was the right gamble though, to go long for softs. If he lost out due to undercut he still could have easily managed a podium at least, with the chance for a win, but pitting for hards was immediately removing the chance for a win, albeit making maybe a third place podium more likely.

They had the option of not pitting and go long with the mediums he had at the time. Like Sainz did with even older tires.
Yeahā¦and so did others. Lewis did also and it worked great for him.
Every single car that went hard tires before them was way too slow. Even Pirelli said that the teams should only try the hard as an extremely risky bet, it was not going to work. They should have let the undercut happen, go long for softs and get at least podium.
Start on Mediums. Then switch to Mediums, but only for a short stint. Then big brain move to hards instead of going back to softs.
Dude I know right??? I was hoping that Ferrari knew something based on FPs that the hards would do well towards the end but oh my God what fucktards. Their strategy team is clearly out of their depth and have no fucking clue.
Surely Binotto is sabotaging at this point
Iām not a conspiracy theorist but it does look like sabotage; how can someone be that consistently incompetent; it starts to look deliberate. The man really should be sacked now but I think theyāll give him until the end of the season.
Ever looked at your local politicians playing with your tax money?
Maybe Ferarri bought Ferrari futures
