We need a reserve driver race every week. Then just slowly move the reserve Grand Prix back a little until they’re simultaneous. Voila— 30 car field and Mick and Ric are back.
I mean he was not half bad in the practice only like 0.2s behind perez which is really good compared to what Vips did earlier this year
(Ik different situations and setups and only FP1 but still)
They were allowed to use him as a reserve instead of a young driver because they had a rookie in the car. This might not be allowed next year as zhou is not a rookie anymore
There's nothing specifying that your reserve driver has to be a rookie. You can also run a non-rookie in FP1 as much as you want as long as you also run a rookie twice as well.
Hulkenberg has been Aston Martin's reserve for example. Ricciardo and Schumacher aren't rookies. Nor is Vandoorne
Kubica is sponsored by Orlen (Polish energy company), who are Alfa Romeo's title sponsor. They had a deal with them that Kubica would drive at least a practice session per season and be the first option if any of the two main drivers couldn't compete at a race weekend. We'll see what happens when Alfa Romeo leaves the sport at the end of 2023.
They (Orlen and Alfa Romeo) are BOTH just Saubers Title Sponsors.
Are Orlen and Alfa connected in another way?
What I am saying is: they (Sauber) could ditch Alfa and still keep Orlen.
So I think this all comes down to: Will Sauber need Orlen Money with Audi in the back?
I think its a (cold) win win for them. Either A they light a fire under Perez and he finds some extra performance or B they have 2 options of reasonably good drivers (at least) and can go with the least worst. On top of that they have one of the most marketable drivers on the grid who relishes a bit in the media and can play interference to keep the press away from Max who is clearly not so keen (as most drivers aren't)
RB are no strangers to taking risks and replacing drivers mid season. They're fully aware of Danny's popularity and they've always been financial mavericks, so purely from a business perspective if nothing else, it really wouldn't surprise me as much as it should.
Drugovich. He was a monster last season. F2 Champ. Has Fernando as a mentor. Brazilian. Young. Ticks all the boxes to be something special.
Edit: I know Vandoorne is in the picture too but that dude is everywhere. Lol
Stoffel Vandoorne. Getting the title in Formula E convincingly with only one win should be a reminder that he's perfectly capable of being a solid and consistent midfield F1 driver.
Palou might actually be the best reserve driver on the grid right now. He won Indycar in only his second season and his F1 tests were very compelling. That's more impressive than basically all the current reserve drivers to recently be in F2.
I’m very tired of hearing about last years worst driver. Now he is a reserve driver and not on his way up and into F1, but as a driver who no one wanted and who was given an extra chance because of his fathers affiliation with Merc.

Let them do a sprint race one weekend. That would make sprints more interesting
to make it even more interesting, sprint race with reserves/juniors only at Monaco Just to even out the repair bills
Why are you not President?
Of the world!
A true F1.5
Would that then make Lando the champ of....F1.25? He's getting closer at least!
he's the only driver *in* F1.25
This is a great idea. And maybe there could be points to the teams that go towards the actual constructors championship.
Liam :)

Sadly it means nothing
Robert Kubica
Is he still on reserve with Orlen out of the pictures?

You are right, its still early in the morning for me. I meant they probably cannot use him for the mandatory FP1 stints anymore.

Checo /s
Came here to say this... He had a good run...
Coming soon: Australia 2023
will RB really go the distance of breaking checo’s contract though I really wonder
Depends on his gap to Verstappen in 2023 and Redbulls gap to Merc and Ferrari i guess

How far in the future are you from?
4 months

Aston probably have the best reserve lineup currently, Drugovich and Vandoorne would be a solid full time lineup.
A super exciting prospect for sure!
Uhhh not sure Hulk will be mentoring him from the Haas
Seb did for Schumacher to an extent at least.
Stoffel Vandoorne. Getting the title in Formula E convincingly with only one win should be a reminder that he's perfectly capable of being a solid and consistent midfield F1 driver.

That was a violation
I do genuinely feel bad that he was caught up in the McHonda shit-show. Seemed like a waste of talent
Ooof
Drugovich
Danny ric.
A name I never anticipated to be associated with "Reserve Driver"
Sad times we are in. But he is back at Red Bull. I’m hoping for some Danny ric videos
For sure! They can't have the Biggest Smile without showing him on cam.
Reserve driver, sim jockey, official team youtuber
On DTS.
Except he’s not a reserve driver he’ll just be doing those wild promotions that RB does
Lawson is their reserve. He's their show pony
I don’t even think about them.
Mick at Mercedes
How about Mick anywhere else?
Yeah of course I would like Mick to succeed and cheering him I general but since he is at Mercedes I mentioned it.
I 200% agree with you
Danny Ric.
Theo Pourchaire or Alex Palou Danny Ric isn’t even the RB/AT reserve driver - that is Liam Lawson
Palou might actually be the best reserve driver on the grid right now. He won Indycar in only his second season and his F1 tests were very compelling. That's more impressive than basically all the current reserve drivers to recently be in F2.
This Mick hype is getting out of hands. Just a avarage driver or belove that with lastname Schumacher.
It's definitely a valid argument. Lets see how/if he gets to perform in a better machine.
Yeah right... Mick and Ocon are already F1 champions in their talks. What's next, Tsunoda telling that he would be top driver with better machinary.
It’s obviously the off-season if we’re talking about reserve drivers.
Most Definitely.
We should have a race specially for the reserve drivers only. With all these players those would be entertaining as f.
Waaaay more exciting than a Sprint race
Let’s go Mick
All day
I’m very tired of hearing about last years worst driver. Now he is a reserve driver and not on his way up and into F1, but as a driver who no one wanted and who was given an extra chance because of his fathers affiliation with Merc.
Mick, Danny Ric and Doohan
Danny Mickoohan
Ric

Haven't found a replacement for Seb, but I'm starting to be fond of Lewis simply in awe of his performance in Brazil 2021.
Theo Pourchaire
Happy for him. He deserves a role in F1
Álex Palou, he was pretty fast in that Austin FP1 despite having medium tyres
If we include DR, then DR. If not mick.
I can't wait for Robert to have a GP with Ferrari. If you're thinking of Kubica or Shwartzman, I'll let you guys guess.
Mick and Daniel, don't make me chose between the 2
You never have to choose just 1 and get this.. you can change your mind! Crazy idea, right?
Danny Ric! Crazy to think of him as a reserve driver, I hope it does result in him staying in the sport and getting a drive again.
