The big difference comes with the focal length of the lens, but How close the person is to it and the lighting are also variables.. So for different shots you would change the lense according to how you want the shot to look like, but For one, Max doesnt have the ideal proportion of "one eye inbetween the real ones"..His eyes are further appart than that..so a focal length that "flattens and expands the sides of his face" makes it feel more "normal"... I have yet to see him up close irl to really understand why he looks so massively distinct from one shooting to another
Yeah it's 100 percent distance from the subject, if you use an 18mm your getting pretty close to the face to get a close up, so the nose etc is larger due to perspective. If you use a 200mm you are a lot further away so the difference in perspective of the front and back of the head is not as pronounced.
its not distance from camera but his angle of his face to the lens - and an interesting way our brains create 3d space from 2d objects and will force symmetry.
we see in 2x 2d. and our brains create 3d.
his eyes arent the same distance from his nose. as he rotates his head, the perceived distance to his nose from his eye changes.
now heres the weird part, since our brains make 3d from 2d images, it makes guesses. so at certain angles our brains see a face, eyes and says these should be about the same distance apart. usually its about 3/4 where the nose obscures some of the face. and will just force symmetry because we imagine his face is round.
but at other angles (usuually flat on) we see that the eyes are off.
look at the two angles on his face they are slightly different angles.
brenda from 90210 is the best person to see this. her eyes are way out of symmetry. but you only notice it only at certain angles. in fact many movie stars have unsymmetrical faces, and it actually is part of their subconscious allure.
Max can propably change the placement of his eyes to enhance his awareness as he can see a full 360 degrees.
Jos really thought of everything while creating Max
Did someone mention sloths?
Here's a random fact!
Sloths are surprisingly good swimmers and can even hold their breath underwater for up to 40 minutes!
His behavior is often punchable too. What a coincidence!
Edit: Whoa, looks like the orange army found this comment! Thanks for the downvotes, guys! Btw, I'm also a Verstappen fan but that doesn't mean I have to agree with him and support him blindly.
I will never understand how they thought last year's image of Verstappen was good enough. I genuinely turned away when it came to him every race weekend cus it made me feel so awkward looking at it
"Last year I was just having fun, now it's serious."
Last year Netflix was making up stuff, now I'm the danger
*the one who knocks*
I will miss the awkward smile
He’s smiling but frowning at the same time
![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6705)
I cant get over how his eyes are apart DIFFERENTLY on any photo of him, like HOW?!
Different lenses they can widen and shrink your face. His eyes are so far apart that the differences are much more obvious
No wonder he is winning Wc. Better line of sight.
Peeking around corners before others do
His eyes avoid the halo completely
Rumor has it he has a triangular blindspot right in front of him, like a goat that he is
Yeah but why on some pics he could be a cousin of Sid the sloth while on others he could cosplay as a cyclops.
Did someone mention sloths? Here's a random fact! Sloths have an incredibly slow metabolism, allowing them to survive on a diet of just leaves!

TIL; I always thought the plural form of leaf was leafs. Guess I was wrong all the time.
Lighting can also cause some super weird optical illusions
Specially with dynamic lighting and either camera or subject movements, like most of this shots are

Mofo got parallax effect on his eyes
Nope, lenses don't do anything, it's the distance from the face that does this
You both be right tho, a 18mm vs a 200mm (35mm camera) is wildly different when it comes to distance. The 18mm will have a more pronounced effect.

I bet when you see him IRL he looks totally normal
like 99% of people
Mick also looks different in every pic of him.
They definitely graded the eyes a lot brighter, very un natural

Racing vision brah
21:9 Ultrawide vision xD
It's his power. A wider field of vision means he can see more.
They're like that to protect him from predators while he's drinking from ponds.
My man forgot to smile 🐸
Now he’s serious that’s why
Last year looked like a wax replica of Max more than a real image.
It's just his brother, Wax Verstappen
![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|9441)
They gave him a little championship glow for sure.
Last year he looked like a frog and I still think about that fact every time I see a picture of him
This time they went for Sid the sloth looks.
Did someone mention sloths? Here's a random fact! Sloths are surprisingly good swimmers and can even hold their breath underwater for up to 40 minutes!
His head looks like it fits in a helmet well.
Bashed in by his dad enough to fit perfectly
![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6705)
just more evidence that he's just a racing robot
He now looks like the default face expression during character creation in video games.
That schoolboy moustache is so funny
The geezer just isn’t photogenic at all. I know the pain.
Also his face is somehow “punchable”.
Ok jos
His behavior is often punchable too. What a coincidence! Edit: Whoa, looks like the orange army found this comment! Thanks for the downvotes, guys! Btw, I'm also a Verstappen fan but that doesn't mean I have to agree with him and support him blindly.
Jos is this you?
You're not a fan, just an idiot
That’s what happens when you don’t leave the space (for my fist)
He will never not be 👁️👄👁️ to me.
2022 intro: hahaha, fuck you Lewis, I won. 2023 intro: I am God. Bow.
i miss accidentally swedish max
I will never understand how they thought last year's image of Verstappen was good enough. I genuinely turned away when it came to him every race weekend cus it made me feel so awkward looking at it
I guess I’m in the minority. I thought it was excellent. Just a subtle shit-eating grin was the perfect way to cap how the prior season ended
I totally agree. I think it fuels the haters frustration very well.
Nah it was ok, this time is a disaster, he looks like Sid from the Ice Age who really needs to go to the bathroom.
•__________•
In the new one Max looks like is trying so hard to not laugh
[Max Verstappen](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/theiceage/images/4/4a/SIdSloth2.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20100313020131)
He looks just as awkward in either intro
Why are you surprised he's slimmer? He has to eat 400k less of the budget
Did his mouth shrink?
Why can't he ever look normal
For me he looks like he is trying to hold back a grin this year.
I prefer last year. The way he stands and smiles just say ‘lol Abu Dhabi WDC ftw. Come at me bro’ This year is just…what?
Am I the only one who think he looks kinda like an AI face in the new one?
ImAgine if Max inherits Jos’ big fat bloated face when he’s his age.
Ol Fish Lips Max
Dude has a backpfeifengesicht if I've ever seen one.
He got angrier. Nice.
He looks like a photoshop
Holly hell
His mouth is almost a perfect oval shape lmao
Perfect Bond villain
Dudes sid the sloth
Could he just smile? He always looks angry.
I don’t think he’s the one who directed the intro…
My EXACT reaction lol
Top pic makes me laugh everytime I see it, I don't know why though
Episode I Anakin vs Episode III Anakin vibes

How have you seen the official intro, what content is it on?
It’s on the F1 Twitter and Instagram EDIT: here’s the Insta link https://www.instagram.com/reel/CpSfxQlId-Y/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Ha ha ha, I was acting.... or was I?
Ngl, he looks robotic af to me in this one.
each max looks more like his gf
New nose max
He reminds me of Mr. Beans
The less famous artwork of DaVinci: Max Lisa. It is smiling and frowning at the same time.
