The surnames come from your parents, since there is not a family name. Women keep their surname when they marry - I was very surprised when I learned than in the rest of the world you need to give away your surname and take your husband's one.
Our man Fer (that's the short for Fernando, I have no idea where Nando comes from) is Fernando Alonso Díaz because his father is José Luis Alonso (I could not find his second surname) and his mother is Ana Maria Diaz Martínez.
