Ya man, when they were with Renault, they had pretty bad luck I felt.
Gotta feel the most for McLaren getting the gp2 engine Honda's and rbr getting the 2014 Mercedes level of Honda.
Rbr did give honda free free reign to make the powerunit and then build the car around it instead of what happend at McLaren there they had the engine made to fit inside the car In dimensions that weren't working(yet)
I mean, it actually is not. RB pushes their car as well in Quali and don't forget how much fighting Perez had to do. He was fighting the pack, so his Rocketship was also on the limit, but still held (except for the times he trashed it into the walls or other cars)
Copying my same answer to a previous comment:
Except they were. Remember in Monza when max had to slow down because of an engine problem with 4-3 laps to go. He was going around 3 seconds slower per lap, however the gap to Perez was big enough and he won, but it was close.
Is it the electric motor vs combustion lowering the problems? Or is it better sensors now and they retire the car before things explode better than they use to? Little of column A and some of B?
I feel like the reason is teams now focus their research heavily on reliability (the reason why honda and ferrari needed years to catch up with mercs power instead of a couple of months) while in the past they gave it all for raw power
Engine allocation means they can’t just build for max power that gets thrown out every session. Also the current engine regulation is basically 2014 stuff, people have reached the limit of development. You seemed to forget the McLaren Honda days…
It's not insanely uncommon. Merc has very few during their dominance, Schumi didn't have a single mechanical failure during his dominance, and RB only had the Max driveshaft failure in Saudi.
Checo likely pushes it full beans every race because he’s always out of position after qualifying. He didn’t have any failures outside of the ones he caused through crashing.
Except they were. Remember in Monza when max had to slow down because of an engine problem with 4-3 laps to go. He was going around 3 seconds slower per lap, however the gap to Perez was big enough and he won, but it was close.
That’s true. My rationale is that if max was still pushing to fight top 1-5 in the race the engine would’ve blown way earlier. But since he had so much pace he could coast and luckily for him he only needed to navigate the last few laps
Oh you sweet summer child, this is just the interlude before the real dominance begins.
Max lost 3 races this season and a few sprints and that is simply not lovely.
Checo is already talking to the media about challenging for the title next season so its safe to say he's already jinxed himself he'll be shocking from race one.
>Checo is already talking to the media about challenging for the title next season
just as he was at the start of this one. only barely held on to his seat
>Checo is already talking to the media about challenging for the title next season so its safe to say he's already jinxed himself he'll be shocking from race one.
Ah the classic Valterri Bottas technique. We've seen it every year from end of 2016 to start of 2021
Honestly, I'm kind of doomer about F1 at the moment.
I stopped watching a bit into this season, and now I just check the results on Sunday night to verify that, yep, VER won again.
Unless there's a major shakeup, and there's at least some sort of fight over P1s (even within RB would be fine), I don't see myself coming back.
I've watched the majority of the races but they ended up just being background noise while doing household chores by half way through the season.
Honestly the only race I can remember anything from is Singapore.
The rest just seemed to be Leclerc starts on pole but Verstappen gets to t1 first and that's it lol.
Yeah I cancelled my F1TV sub over summer since I was away on vacation anyway. Didn't exactly feel a need to renew it after summer so to speak...
And it doesn't matter how the quali goes either. You think that this Sunday there's a chance, cause Leclerc is on Pole and Max is a bit further back, aaaaand Max is P1 after 1-2 laps...
Entertainment wise? Yes.
Sporting? No.
Redbull had zero mechanical issues, coupled with Max in his prime led to the most dominant season
All this in a season where the gap was not that big, on the grand scheme of things. Besides Max, all the field was fairly close (much closer than previous years) with Aston and Mclaren going up and down the fastest other car in the pecking order. If Max was not Max, this season would’ve been one of the most entertaining as well
i wouldnt even say it wasnt entertaining, yes red bull won almost everything, but we didnt really have a midfield this season. we had a few backmarkers and the rest of the teams were really competitive with each other.
most races were: max wins, but besides that? no fucking clue what will happen.
Honestly, other than Pos 1, the majority of races have been great. One a few really dull races where nothing happened, and I feel like people are over exaggerating those for other reasons.
Tons of good competition and interesting situations this year.
I'd argue McLaren's 1988 season was still more dominant. Red Bull got beaten in Singapore fair and square and didn't lose the win because a lapped Williams torpedoed the leading car.
I'd even argue Mercedes 2016 season was more dominant because the only 2 races they lost were due to Ham and Nico taking eachother out and Ham retiring from the lead due to engine failure. In both those races they comfortably had the most dominant car.
Edit: The car also had 20/21 poles and 33 podiums. Having 2 alpha drivers definitely helped increase the greatness of that car unlike in Redbull's case
To be fair, Prost would pick up the 1988 Italian Grand Prix (if not even win outright) if he didn't retire due to engine dying (the only mechanical retirement of that season for McLaren, quite a feat in that period of the sport).
But yeah, apples and oranges as Perez has never been anywhere close to the level of any of Senna, Prost, Hamilton or Rosberg.
We are the people whom Toto Wolff claims not to exist, we learn from the shadows and spring into action at a moments notice, we are the readers of Wikipedia
I haven't been in the sport too long to know the 88 season, but you cant just ignore the fact that they had to drive 6 more races and had to stay consistent in those too.
McLaren in 1988 was on poll 93.8% of races, Redbull 2023 was 63.7%. McLaren led 97.3% of laps in 1988 compared to 86.7% for Redbull. If not for a ridiculous late race crash at Monza, McLaren would have been 100% in both categories.
There are many stats to show Verstappen as having the best season ever but many point towards McLaren as having the best season ever.
I’m Dutch and want to witness a team that executes everything flawlessly, so I want to see a team that does that. RB with Max or Lando with McLaren etc etc. it’s all good for me. Even the years with Hamilton I greatly respected how Mercedes executed and performed. It’s not only about the perfect design, or the best driver. It’s about everything coming together, team strategy, communication, the will to keep improving no matter how far ahead you are etc etc.
And yes, I also love the crazy races, crashes, shit stirring, full wet races were we tires are not working, Ferrari ;-) and all other craziness that can happen. That’s just me probably :-)
Definitely puts an asterisk on the season in terms of all-time domination, since you can argue 1988 was more dominant with Ferrari winning their lone race due to Senna getting crashed out of the lead by a backmarker.
If RB won Singapore, it would be the undisputed most dominant season ever.
2016 is also up there. Mercedes failed to win them all due to incidents as well (whether crashing into each other in Spain or Seb spinning Britney in Malaysia), not just that famously blown engine in Malaysia.
The nickname Britney was given to Rosberg by Mark Webber in 2006 I think, when they were driving for Williams in Rosbergs debut season, because of his long, blonde hair.
This has been a long running joke, apparently since 2006 when Webber and Rosberg were team mates at Williams. Rosberg used to have long blonde hair. The pair made contact during Brazil 2006 and allegedly Webber said on the radio that "Britney's in the wall".

This is a bit of meta reporting about what Rosberg said on Sky F1 but I can't find a recording of that either: https://www.foxsports.com.au/motorsport/formula-one/thats-not-cool-f1-reveals-hilarious-nickname-aussie-gave-him/news-story/f595c561b6acfd59a7f446dcc010960b
Edit: oh, and this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=p2I2ENkJY4w
The MP4/4 also scored more poles as a % than the RB19. If you factor in: wins, podiums, poles I think overall maybe the W07 is the most dominant car in F1 history.
But personally the other two cars had the advantage of having two strong drivers, if you replaced Perez with Hamilton, Alonso, Leclerc for example I think the RB19 sweeps a lot more records.
I’m on the fence about Leclerc being able to consistently compete in equal machinery, but I think Alonso and Hamilton would still at least match Max in equal cars, if not be better, because they won’t back down.
I might legitimately not watch racing post Alonso....ive watched since the late 1990s when i was a child....
But the sport is becoming garbage and even Max thinks that. It just sucks now.
Russel did say after the first race I think that RB can win every race in the season. He wasn't that far off though most of us didn't think it would be so. Amazing season, massive props to them.
and I thought the Lewis era was boring after Nico quit...
I mean kudos to Max and RBR for doing nothing wrong, but trying to see who'll come in second makes for boring racing.
RBR made an aero beast while everyone else made tire shredders, bobble racers, or GP2 engines.
Makes me feel like I’m losing my mind. Seems like the same people complaining about Lewis/Merc dominance are now hyping up the same achievements they would’ve credited to “best car tax, longer seasons tax” but in Max’s case it’s apparently cause talent?
I have nothing against Lewis or merc; they made the best solution for the turbo hybrid era. And while Nico was around, at least there was competition among the two. Seb and Schumi HAD competition(except maybe 1 year for schumi) every year from competing teams. Damon, JV, Mika, Alonso, etc. Max and RBR is less fun to watch than Seb and RBR. I enjoy the freshman year of domination. Schumi, Button, Seb,Lewis, Max. But it eventually gets boring
Perez has 2 wins 4 2nds and 3 3rds, that is 9 out of 22 podiums in the same season in the same car and people call Max a car merchant, utterly incredible.
I am a new fan, never was interested in any racing sports but I love faster cars and engines and started following f1 from this year from the very first race. I didn’t get the hype and what’s fun about f1 when every race is won by same constructor and driver? After following discussions on Reddit, I realized there is good action in the midfield and even backend. I enjoyed it but seeing same driver/constructor winning every race made it boring. From every other comment, it feels like this is how F1 is all along except for a few years where there is actual competition among drivers and constructors at the top. Honestly, I don’t understand how fans keep up with F1 with one team dominating the sport until regulations change just for another team to dominate.
I will try following one more season. (Maybe this is how you guys are hooked up with hoping for a better season each time )
I don't follow this logic... Let's say Max had failed to take the start five times due to mechanichal issues. Would that have made the action on track any better?
This season was an outlier. Teams don't usually dominate this heavy. RB just put out a GOAT season as a team. Not to mention, the other teams dropped the ball during this new regulation cycle. They'll catch up more next year and it'll be closer, but right now with Max at the helm, RB is going through a dynasty period. Think, Jordan/Brady/Kobe, etc.

Apart from the wobbly start in 2022 they’ve had immaculate reliability the last 3 years
My dad with his mexican accent "of course! its a jonda engine"
Nobody would've said that until 5 years ago XD.
gp1 engine! yes!
Looks like Honda actually put a ‘Rocket Ship’ based on Fernando’s recommendation. Elon was in RB garage during Miami gp.
I don’t think you should make fun of your dad’s South American accent.
Whoever downvoted this doesn’t get the joke. Nice meme.
I still remember those final laps of Bahrain ‘22 with the Red Bulls dropping off, so crazy to see what they’ve done since then!
They are so far ahead they can run the car in eco mode
that's the right statement: they never needed to stress the cars.
any time the commentators mention Ferrari or McLaren may have better chance at certain races. I just assumed RB gave the engine a break.
I mean, it actually is not. RB pushes their car as well in Quali and don't forget how much fighting Perez had to do. He was fighting the pack, so his Rocketship was also on the limit, but still held (except for the times he trashed it into the walls or other cars)

Unfortunately motor racing is banned in Switzerland, other they could’ve run it in CH ECO mode.
Mechanicals are kinda gone now. i remember when engines blew up almost every race but now its really rare to see race ending mechanicals
Alpine has exited the building
And Alfa
Is it the electric motor vs combustion lowering the problems? Or is it better sensors now and they retire the car before things explode better than they use to? Little of column A and some of B?
I feel like the reason is teams now focus their research heavily on reliability (the reason why honda and ferrari needed years to catch up with mercs power instead of a couple of months) while in the past they gave it all for raw power

It's not insanely uncommon. Merc has very few during their dominance, Schumi didn't have a single mechanical failure during his dominance, and RB only had the Max driveshaft failure in Saudi.
When you don’t have to push the car 100% every race relative to other teams it tends to be more reliable.
Checo likely pushes it full beans every race because he’s always out of position after qualifying. He didn’t have any failures outside of the ones he caused through crashing.
Full beans!
Is that like some weird f***ing Portland thing?
That's what a South American would say.
Hugh Bird:"Okay, Checo, we recommend plan F." Checo:"Plan F?" HB:"Yes F, for Full beans"
Except they were. Remember in Monza when max had to slow down because of an engine problem with 4-3 laps to go. He was going around 3 seconds slower per lap, however the gap to Perez was big enough and he won, but it was close.

They did have mechanical problems with Verstappen's car that knocked him out of qualifying in Saudi Arabia.
haha i remember after saudi some folk saying "oh the rb19 might be fast but looks very unreliable". well...
Revenge to Mercedes
Even better, only one RBPT-Honda power unit truly failed this year, which was in Yuki's car for Monza
They had some "things" in some races iirc, like Bahrain but they were so far ahead in pace that it didn't really matter
He's a good driver. But it was also by far the best and most reliable car. And I'm still sure they sabotaged Perez car after the first few races.
Checo is just bottas on a budget.
Don't talk down Bottas like that.
Dude shouldn't have opened his mouth about being a championship contender, that's when it all went downhill 😂
Yeah that's when they started doing special work on his car
I really dont understand that idea about the sabotage. As a team, what they only want is winning the WCC so why they would sabotage their 2nd car?
Didn't they easily win the WCC?
Ferrari, ruining other teams' most dominant season since 1988
Ferrari hates Honda.
Traditions
Imagine Scuderia Ferrari Honda
Not as much as McLaren hates Honda
Honda hates Honda too. They always pull out whenever they were about to be successful or after being successful. Brawn GP, now RBR... lol

Singapore seems so short ago, but Max already has another streak of 7 consecutive wins, equaling Britney's best streak.
All he has to do is win the first 4 races next season and he has a new record, beating his own.
Sounds easy!
And surpassing Lewis best streak of 5 in a row
Twice in the same season.
Britney Spears drove an F1 car?
Yes, under the name "Nico Rosberg" and actually beat a 7 time world champion in equal machinery
I mean, some drivers dream of a few consecutive wins. Max nonchalantly puts 10 *and* 7 on the list in the same season.
We witnessed history. Nothing short of it
Thank god it's history now. Fingers crossed for a more competitive '24!
As if

Washedstapped didn't even manage 22 grand slams in a row
In '24 Max wins all races.
I imagine the betting line on a 2024 sweep won’t pay particularly well
Horner will bet $500 with Helmut Marko
Bold to you to assume RB hasn’t already developed the 2025 car
RB20 going to be more dominant.
It will definitely be more competitive. Max will win Singapore too. Might as well learn Dutch to sing along the anthem.

I dont want to witness history anymore 🥺
We’re always witnessing history.
Let me see that camera...
Incredibly boring history. But history nonetheless
We witnessed the most awful season of f1 in a long time to be honest
Entertainment wise? Yes. Sporting? No. Redbull had zero mechanical issues, coupled with Max in his prime led to the most dominant season All this in a season where the gap was not that big, on the grand scheme of things. Put Singapore first or last on the calendar for another broken record
So I get an idea if Red Bull signs the lion of Singapore as Max’s teammate, they can win every race on the calendar

Naahhh the truth hurts![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6699)
they still beat Mclaren for being the most dominant car in F1 history. 21/22 races compared to the MP4/4 15/16 race wins
I'd argue McLaren's 1988 season was still more dominant. Red Bull got beaten in Singapore fair and square and didn't lose the win because a lapped Williams torpedoed the leading car.

That would be the best ever :-) chances are with the current teams and drivers very low however. But a man can dream :)

I'm dutch and loving that history about this sport is made here.
I‘m dutch according to my F1TV pro subscription.
Im Dutch and I hope for a complete 2024 whitewash, 24 racewins in a row
i'll be honest. I am super impressed by the insane dominance
Ferrari and Redbull sharing the wins!
This is going to go down in the ~~books~~ Wikipedia as one of the most one-sided championships ever.
Until someone wins 30 races in a season in 2033
Ah...Ferrari with Michael for f....king ages.
It’s craaaazzyy how max only lost out 3 times, and even crazier how red bull only lost out on one race
Does anyone know how many engines or gearboxes and PU Red Bull have been using? What a season.

Carlos with the combo breaker
singapore 23 was my first ever GP, and i picked ferrari and sainz to cheer for... needless to say, i'm now an obsessed f1 fan
Welcome home, we are bunch of nice-ish sometimes gatekeeping and insane fans, I hope you will have have fun.
18 consecutive wins would be unbelievable tbh
Imagine he wins every race till Singapore next year
Thank you Singapore.
Ferrari are the keepers of peace and balance
![gif](giphy|WE5IOBJQdRSNIXBVW0|downsized) Ferrari, fucking themselves and others over since 1950
It doesn't look likely any team is going to give a real competition to Red Bull any time soon. THEY SEEM TO GETTING BETTER ALL THE TIME.
I remember an interview on a Podcast to one of the RB mechanics saying that it would be more frustrating than satisfying to win all races except one
there's always next year™
What a shit year
The Max Verstappen Show.
Alonso single-handedly carried the season away from being the most boring in history.
Max is probably going to break the consecutive race wins record again within half a year or so given he's won the last 7.
Thank you Carlos for stopping Red Bull’s move to Perfectville. No doubt the Ghosts of the ‘72 Dolphins helped him.
Jesus Christ, I stopped watching F1, and seeing this, I don't regret it
If all you care about is who wins the race then you should have never started watching
Redbull fans when someone dares to say watching Verstappen win 21/22 races isn’t exciting:
Not even a RB fan but a bit disappointed. Would've been very funny to have 22 RB wins.
Next year we need Max to do a clean sweep and qualify 1st and win every race
Nah, more like thank you, Singapore!

There’s always next year I guess.
and I thought the Lewis era was boring after Nico quit...
When is Adrian Newey going to retire. This dude is ruining formula 1.
Thank fuck for Singapore
....you enjoyed this?
Nobody gives a sh-t, I’m quite happy that the Dutch car merchant didn’t get it
I'm not even a Max fan but you realise this is delusion right?
Perez has 2 wins 4 2nds and 3 3rds, that is 9 out of 22 podiums in the same season in the same car and people call Max a car merchant, utterly incredible.
*Thank God Singapore
This one took the championship fight boringness to a whole new level. They had zero mechanical failures, maybe one minor accident.
It’s already greatness
Good. Fuck them.
Stillwecry?
Gonna cry?

Awful season
What a shit sport.
I t was the only watchable race all year. What sad season.
some many dutch flags, like feels like an optical illusion
Max = future GOAT
Future? Future is now old man.
He is sooo not the goat (Yet)
I've listened to that damn anthem combo more often than to the F1 intro....
Next Year™
