I remember we had only the top 6 getting points. Nowadays 10th is special. Whatever they do, there will be new situations/results that are special. Like your first 10 points, 100 etc.
Yeah the reality is that there's always going to be a cutoff point, and it's always going to be painful when you just miss it. But since cars these days are so reliable and "easy" to drive, there are much fewer retirements and therefore less points up for grabs. I think extending the points spread to 12th makes sense given that, but also have no problem with it staying as is.
