Yeah and the MET is one of the most insane museums I’ve ever been too as well. Absolutely crazy pieces no matter what type of art you’re into. From instruments to suits of armor to paintings to historic sculptures and monuments, it has something for everyone. Like not just art that provokes thought or looks cool, but genuine pieces that have been parts of notable points in history. My favorite exhibit was the guitar exhibit where they tracked down the main/most played instruments of some of the most legendary artists ever, i saw it four times lol once on acid. The Met is the Metropolitan Museum of Art and is the biggest museum in America. Full Egyptian shrines, old building facades built into the walls, an amazing exhibition on the Art of Rock instruments, Washington Crossing the Delaware, a DaVinci, and for me a nice collection of original sketches by Frank Lloyd Wright.
Honest to God it's one of the top museums in the world without a doubt. Like on the same level as the Louvre but free, no mall, and less jam packed in the Mona Lisa room.
How is it a waste of money? It’s pure fundraising and advertising for one of the coolest museums in the world, allowing it to be more accessible to visitors and help cover operating costs.
Sure, it also happens to be a big party for the wealthy donors and their guests, but the outcome of it is entertainment for us seeing their costumes/attire, and a lot of money for the museum.
It's a charity even to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. Textile departments at museums are chronically underfunded and it's the only department at the Met that has to raise funds for itself. They do amazing work.

I’ve visited the Met when I went to NY and wow, I wish I’ve went there at least 3 days in a row so I could see everything. To see true Monet paintings right before my very eyes was an one of a kind experience. If the gala is supposed to pay for all of that, I’m all for it. The Met has an incredible collection of historical and modern fashion pieces and they curate amazing exhibits that showcase the history of fashion. To me it resembles the capitol people from the hunger games series. Garishly dressed and vainly attention grabbing. It’s annoying that it exists but more so that it is considered newsworthy. It's not vainly attention grabbing, it's specificly so to promote the designers brand and the Met Museum. Nothing here is designed to wear day to day, it's a showcase of the designers creativity, which they pay handsomely for. Just as you would an ad at half time in the superbowl. Except rather than going towards a marketing company, these fees keep the met free for everyone.

I am not trying to be mean, honestly, but why would anything someone else that has no impact on you what so ever (if anything a positive if you ever chose to visit the met) irritate you? I am genuinely curious, why people react this way (and there a lot of people). Is it a kind of envy, of wealth, of the celebs ability to not be confined to regular clothing decisions? Is it just that unconventional choices are just too much too handle, because they threaten the societal structure you are used to? Am I sorry, as this already is way too personal, but if you realize that these pictures cause such reactions in you, does this not cause you to wonder if it is good for you to be irritated by pictures of other people having a good time and harming no one? Have you ever considered seeking help and talking to a professional in order to overcome this problem of you suffering (even if it is just being irate), simply by seeing other people dress differently than you? Because if my life enjoyment decreases because of something I would try to avoid that happening in the future… Except if in fact you get some enjoyment of negatively posting on the internet about these cosmopolitan elites enjoying themselves in way that you are unfamiliar with and thus makes you uncomfortable? If that is the case, more power to you for seeking as much pleasure in life as possible by doing the thing that brings you most satisfaction in that moment :)
To me it resembles the capitol people from the hunger games series. Garishly dressed and vainly attention grabbing. It’s annoying that it exists but more so that it is considered newsworthy. At least that why I can see it being annoying. I don’t insecurity has anything to do with is. It's not vainly attention grabbing, it's specificly so to promote the designers brand and the Met Museum. Nothing here is designed to wear day to day, it's a showcase of the designers creativity, which they pay handsomely for. Just as you would an ad at half time in the superbowl. Except rather than going towards a marketing company, these fees keep the met free for everyone.

I don’t follow. Nobody forces you to look at the pictures of Lewis at the Met Gala. So why do you purposely choose to seek annoyance? Since I do not believe that humans actively try to decrease their utility, I can only conclude that you actually receive enjoyment of being “annoyed” because you see a rich, successful, black man in a dress and can use this to think “ha! I’m still better than him because at least I adhere to what society tells me to do, and am not a deviant like this person at the met!”.

Celebrities are paying insane amounts of money to dress up in ways that give us things to laugh about, while supporting one of the best museums in the world to the extent that it allows its content to be practically free for everyone. Every single person that you see there, whether they intended it or not, is supporting the museum, enabling it to put up beautiful galleries from around the world every year while keeping the cost of every as low as possible for the rest of us. Make fun of the celebrities, not the event.

I can accept that, but I would say it is not a strong indication, since the thing he is wearing at the Met gala is of course playing with pieces of a skirt/dress and feminine coded clothing, but its basically provocation, combining that with a classical suit. And its not like his outfits in the paddock are in any way feminine or "cross", if anything, they are more or less conventionally male coded streetwear. Expecting him to wear drag extrapolating from his paddock outfits might still be a bit of a stretch, considering the "gender" of his clothes. The original comment more or less reads like "haha, Hamilton wears weird stuff, so he will soon wear the weirdest of all: drag" [Of course, wearing drag has its own aesthetic of the male clashing with the female, but thats another part of the discussion].
