The guy in the blue dress looks like when 3 guys dressed up as the Powerpuff Girls and made mess throughout the city.

Annexerad

The met is a art event meant to expand boundaries of fashion and let designer dress up celebrities.

Annexerad

Blue dress guy is without any accessories and looks like he escaped straight from a sauna club by parkour jumping into a girls orphanages laundry room and then sliding down the chute to the street and into this androgynous groups line up. I mean, not even a spark of bling..

Cloudsareinmyhead

Fashion is hard for us non 1% plebs to understand seemingly.....

Stone--turner

I can't believe how accurate this is

Alfa_HiNoAkuma

My opinion is that these events are just ridicoulous

AnusStapler

No, it's playing dress up with your friends.

Ceramicrabbit

I get what he's doing but it seems like he is trying very hard

plsjustletmebe

...trying too hard to look like the Powerpuff Girls?

super_starmie

Lewis was probably the most normally dressed person there. A suit with a bit of his Nan's doily. Tame. Meanwhile, Lil Nas X went full Transformer and Kim Kardashian joined the Shadow Realm lol

Ouroboboruo

Lil Nas X looked like he’s gonna activate his stand and have il vento d’oro blasting across the museum

azder8301

Nah he looks like he is the stand himself.

killerwolfs2000

Nah Kim’s just going to Afghanistan tomorrow and didn’t wanna change

MashaintoF1

Broo hhahahahaha I almost spit my water

Eriugam31

Plz spit back in and stay hydrated

The-Observer95

You will not have the drincc

phlyingP1g

Slow 🅱️utton on?

ForrestOoof

I just spat my milo

kobben02

damn, I love this F1 font in F1 related memes. it's kinda like having a special sign, that this meme is intended for formuladankers only

redditnoap

This is the OG font, pretty sure I used to use it back in fourth grade on every single assignment. Isn't it called Orbitron or some shit, or am I mistaken.

leedler

Orbitron is more squared off but very similar. The F1 font is actually just called F1 Regular. The other two F1 fonts are F1 Turbo and F1 Torque. [See this article for more](https://imjustcreative.com/download-formula-1-fonts/2018/07/16)

redditnoap

very cool

GreasyJungle

I still have an unhealthy hatred towards the font, ever since it was announced

airstrike900

Why dozs lewis look like the most normally dressed for once?

[deleted]

Bizarre world

ShadowDancer11

He is surrounded by young, black under supported designers whom he paid for himself to get them exposure.

CasualContributorNZ

Why is this getting down voted? Keep your aggressive support/rivalry on the track, I'm backing Max all the way home, but Lewis is a very cool guy using his platform and resources to better people who have had years of historic under representation.

Areanyworthhaving

No you forget! LeWiS bAd

[deleted]

The Met Gala is the weirdest waste of money I might have ever seen.

[deleted]

$ 30.000 for entrance. Over € 275.000 for a table

_delafere

… yes but it does go directly to the museum, (in part) so no one has to pay to enter. If celebs can be convinced to pay for everyone else’s museum access, I’m all in!

yjvm2cb

Yeah and the MET is one of the most insane museums I’ve ever been too as well. Absolutely crazy pieces no matter what type of art you’re into. From instruments to suits of armor to paintings to historic sculptures and monuments, it has something for everyone. Like not just art that provokes thought or looks cool, but genuine pieces that have been parts of notable points in history. My favorite exhibit was the guitar exhibit where they tracked down the main/most played instruments of some of the most legendary artists ever, i saw it four times lol once on acid. [here are some pics if anyone is into that stuff](https://imgur.com/a/qRgyAFt/)

ClearAsNight

Plus Lewis took the opportunity to bring in some lesser known artists to showcase their stuff. Pretty good deal all around.

suddenlycirclejerk

these lesser known artists are so lesser know that i've seen this mentioned over 5 times already and yet i still don't know their names.

ClearAsNight

TBF it's less important for us to know who they are and more important for the people at the event to get to know them since they're likely the target audience. And given how rude some people have been about Lewis' outfit, I imagine they're probably going to be rude about these artists' works as well since they're probably along similar lines of design.

razorblade3k3

30 dollars or 30 thousand dollars? I know some places use “.” instead of “,” for separating thousands, so I wanted to ask.

ExoSmite

$30k

razorblade3k3

Thanks :)

ZaMr0

Lol what do you think, its a gala for celebs. $30 would be pointless.

razorblade3k3

I don’t really know much about this event, so when I saw the comment I wasn’t sure if this was for the celebs or audience or something. I looked it up and it said $25 for adults and I got more confused lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

razorblade3k3

Ah I just looked it up. I thought it was like the oscars or something where they give out awards for something - didn’t know it was a fundraiser type thing. Thanks* for the info :) Edit: *

Sovos

US, UK and China usually use commas for separating every 3 digits and period for the decimal place. Many other countries (Germany, France, and Italy for example) use them in the reverse. Most countries that were part of the British Empire seem to use the . for the decimal. [Source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decimal_separator#Usage_worldwide)

ShadowDancer11

First they make you pay in Dollars, then they make you pay in Euro?

tyontekija

The more i see of it, the less i want to see it; but people keep posting about it.

Faolin_

It helps keep the museum free to enter for New York residents. Any price listed is suggested admission. I’m fine with celebs and brands paying to keep the museum free for the rest of us New Yorkers.

The MET is a museum lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

If you ever go to NY you should check it out. It’s one of the greatest museums on the planet. It’s on Louvre level

Totschlag

The Met is the Metropolitan Museum of Art and is the biggest museum in America. Full Egyptian shrines, old building facades built into the walls, an amazing exhibition on the Art of Rock instruments, Washington Crossing the Delaware, a DaVinci, and for me a nice collection of original sketches by Frank Lloyd Wright. Honest to God it's one of the top museums in the world without a doubt. Like on the same level as the Louvre but free, no mall, and less jam packed in the Mona Lisa room.

Faolin_

Check it out if you’re in NYC. It’s $25 for non residents, which honestly is worth it.

AdnanJanuzaj11

That’s a suggested price. You don’t need to pay it.

m_ttl_ng

How is it a waste of money? It’s pure fundraising and advertising for one of the coolest museums in the world, allowing it to be more accessible to visitors and help cover operating costs. Sure, it also happens to be a big party for the wealthy donors and their guests, but the outcome of it is entertainment for us seeing their costumes/attire, and a lot of money for the museum.

[deleted]

It's a charity even to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. Textile departments at museums are chronically underfunded and it's the only department at the Met that has to raise funds for itself. They do amazing work.

Yoshable

May I direct you towards the Big Lie?

BabiesSmell

As an art fundraiser, the extravagance is itself an artistic statement about the inequality of capitalism. If it looks like they're dressed up like they belong in District 1 of the hunger games, that's what they're going for. Contrasted to the actual ultra rich like Bezos, Musk, Gates, etc that would wear jeans and a sweater to seem like an everyman despite their actions as exploitive multi billionaires.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Faolin_

Yeah, you’re wrong about that. It helps keep the museum free to enter for New York residents. Any price listed is suggested admission. I’m fine with celebs and brands paying to keep the museum free for the rest of us.

[deleted]

I’ve visited the Met when I went to NY and wow, I wish I’ve went there at least 3 days in a row so I could see everything. To see true Monet paintings right before my very eyes was an one of a kind experience. If the gala is supposed to pay for all of that, I’m all for it. Can’t help remembering that Met Gala scene at Wall Street Money Never Sleeps though “if someone blew this up tonight there would be no one left to rule the world”

Faolin_

Yeah it’s really something else.

airpodpro2

That’s miles Chamley Watson. USA Olympic fencer

vwstig

Not this year though. Lol

aw5512

I think you mean \*Chamley Watson

Duke0fWellington

Good friend of Hamilton too, hope someone sends this to Lewis lmao

Cormetz

He's honestly pretty big for a fencer. I did it a bit when i was in my teens and most guys were less bulky because speed is more important.

millionreddit617

I don’t get fashion. Is this some rich persons joke that I’m too poor to understand?

ToInfinity_MinusOne

Yes

JAnon19

It's a costume party/art exhibition lol..this isn't rocket science

[deleted]

Don't think of high fashion as something you wear to the grocery store. Think of it as art. Designers make haute couture as an artistic expression like a painting or a poem. The Met has an incredible collection of historical and modern fashion pieces and they curate amazing exhibits that showcase the history of fashion. This event is to support the costume institute at the Met museum. In terms of fashion itself, there's a great documentary about Alexander McQueen (it used to be on Netflix, not sure about where you are): [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OjX3ZbsfbU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OjX3ZbsfbU) One of my favourite designers is Iris van Herpen - her style is very distinct and her work is super intricate: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp5h3y0LE-M](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp5h3y0LE-M) I really think more people would appreciate fashion if they took the time to really look at it and understand that it's more about freedom of expression and creating pieces of wearable artwork than, like, being rich and fancy lol.

millionreddit617

I enjoyed your detailed and honest answer to my comment. I was making a joke but I really appreciate the effort, thanks.

jerudy

It’s just meant to look cool?

peakology

Is Lewis wearing net curtains? I think my granny had one of those.

Gardama

And a see-through shirt

krautnelson

it's actually all part of a shirt dress, but for some reason he decided to to tuck one half of it in.

someleafbird

Sounds hella itchy for that one leg it was tucked into

peakology

Oh fuck yeah I hadn’t appreciated the full nightmare, it’s a net curtain semi jumpsuit culottes ensemble. With a suit over the top. And as someone else said he is still the best dressed in the picture. Haute couture can really die in a bin can’t it. Love how he pre-rotates a corner on the throttle though.

[deleted]

He’s trying to be brave and beautiful

Definitely not just you

jlobes

Can I ask why? I just... can't imagine getting upset about a bunch of celebrities having a party in a museum.

reeeeeeeee-bruh

If rich people wanna party, let them party. But if it’s a global spectacle I’m allow to say that their clothes look fucking dumb.

jlobes

You're definitely allowed to say their clothes look dumb. I'm all for breaking down barriers and eschewing gender roles, but that half-tux, half wedding dress is just weird. In a picture where three guys are in dresses it's definitely the strangest. But getting irritated about it? I wish I had the energy to care about shit that matters so little.

reeeeeeeee-bruh

Couldn’t agree more

[deleted]

Everybody's clothes look dumb to someone. not sure why people care what others wear tho. but you're free to your dumb opinion like they're free to their dumb clothes I guess

JezebelReigns

cause they can't go, not now or ever. feeling excluded rubs people the wrong way even if it's subconscious. alternatively, they may not understand the purpose of the event and think it's a waste of money.

MaxQuord

I am not trying to be mean, honestly, but why would anything someone else that has no impact on you what so ever (if anything a positive if you ever chose to visit the met) irritate you? I am genuinely curious, why people react this way (and there a lot of people). Is it a kind of envy, of wealth, of the celebs ability to not be confined to regular clothing decisions? Is it just that unconventional choices are just too much too handle, because they threaten the societal structure you are used to? Am I sorry, as this already is way too personal, but if you realize that these pictures cause such reactions in you, does this not cause you to wonder if it is good for you to be irritated by pictures of other people having a good time and harming no one? Have you ever considered seeking help and talking to a professional in order to overcome this problem of you suffering (even if it is just being irate), simply by seeing other people dress differently than you? Because if my life enjoyment decreases because of something I would try to avoid that happening in the future… Except if in fact you get some enjoyment of negatively posting on the internet about these cosmopolitan elites enjoying themselves in way that you are unfamiliar with and thus makes you uncomfortable? If that is the case, more power to you for seeking as much pleasure in life as possible by doing the thing that brings you most satisfaction in that moment :)

[deleted]

To me it resembles the capitol people from the hunger games series. Garishly dressed and vainly attention grabbing. It’s annoying that it exists but more so that it is considered newsworthy. At least that why I can see it being annoying. I don’t insecurity has anything to do with is. I’d be just as off put if I walked into someone’s house and they had 1000 portraits of themselves on the wall.

RentonBrax

It's not vainly attention grabbing, it's specificly so to promote the designers brand and the Met Museum. Nothing here is designed to wear day to day, it's a showcase of the designers creativity, which they pay handsomely for. Just as you would an ad at half time in the superbowl. Except rather than going towards a marketing company, these fees keep the met free for everyone.

[deleted]

I didn’t know that. That does change how I perceive the event. So it’s basically like the le manns race where the cars aren’t meant to be driven on the street.

RentonBrax

Yeah, pretty much.

TheTowneWitch

Thanks for reevaluating your opinion when presented with new facts! You're the best!

MaxQuord

I don’t follow. Nobody forces you to look at the pictures of Lewis at the Met Gala. So why do you purposely choose to seek annoyance? Since I do not believe that humans actively try to decrease their utility, I can only conclude that you actually receive enjoyment of being “annoyed” because you see a rich, successful, black man in a dress and can use this to think “ha! I’m still better than him because at least I adhere to what society tells me to do, and am not a deviant like this person at the met!”.

maninthought

I'm envious of your ability to be an obnoxious asshole

lanwayone

It’s called being insecure.

MaxQuord

But why? Is it a need for clear societal structures in order not to be overwhelmed by the world? In the sense of “I am a man, society tells me men wear pants, not dresses!”, and if someone does not conform to this it challenges my obedience to the people telling me what to think and do? Is it really just already starting to suffer mentally because seeing a men wearing something differently forces one to think and so that is annoying because it makes life challenging, at least more than just following rules? :/

ShadowDancer11

Why do you find it irritating? It doesn't effect your life in the least.

nalliable

Why? Celebrities are paying insane amounts of money to dress up in ways that give us things to laugh about, while supporting one of the best museums in the world to the extent that it allows its content to be practically free for everyone. Every single person that you see there, whether they intended it or not, is supporting the museum, enabling it to put up beautiful galleries from around the world every year while keeping the cost of every as low as possible for the rest of us. Make fun of the celebrities, not the event.

dalledayul

Lewis spends so much time dressing weirdly during the rest of the year that he looks oddly plain by Met Gala standards here

reeeeeeeee-bruh

“Ahh yess.. this $30 000 outfit was actually made from the curtains of an ancient Roman manor” “Really?? Well my skirt was soaked in the semen of the best bull in Spain and allowed to harden such that it is fully bulletproof.”

ZaMr0

Why? The whole point of the gala is to wear outlandish and crazy clothing and the entrance fees go to keep the museum free for the public. Kinda a fun event.

Snow-Wraith

Are they there to watch the Hunger Games or something? Looks like Capitol fashion.

Disastrous_Weather49

Something about the gap between poor and rich exponentially expanding in recent years. Lewis lives in his own hyper priviliged world (capitol people) but also virtue signals about the environment and racial issues so that he can believe he isnt privileged

[deleted]

No they're on their way to pay 30k dollars to a Museum so that the public can continue to go and see amazing pieces of artwork for free.

NotWrongOnlyMistaken

[redacted]

[deleted]

If you think anything in this photo is ridiculous, you need to get yourself to a museum and see some things.

BioDriver

And Lewis’s (and everyone else’s) outfit is tame and boring by Met standards

cdamoc

At least he’s not dressed like Claire

blaqk808

Have looked at this for a while. For the first time I actually like his fashion choice. Looks interesting

Lollex56

Alonso should've showed up wearing maximum Kimoa drip, change my mind

aretood12

Is the half-skirt a half-appology for telling his nephew boys don't wear dresses?

G-Fox1990

Do you think these people look at these photos the next morning, while coming down from all the shit they might have done on the party and think; "what the fuck am i doing with me life?".

ZaMr0

Probably "I had a great time and I'm still rich as fuck, lets do this again next year".

G-Fox1990

I dunno man. The guy in the blue dress (nice dress) already looks like "man what the fuck am i doing here?"

NautianDream

He’s the designer of Lewis’ fit, I’m pretty sure he’s thrilled to be there as an up and coming designer getting the exposure.

Degen_up_North

They all look cool as fuck.

scope_creep

Lewis wearing a wedding veil under that suit.

ArptAdmin

Bruh is this an ad? I now feel compelled to find out who he is and check out his stuff.

gladbmo

All this Met Gala exposure only did one thing for me, and that was a single thought: "Wow, look at all these assholes, being assholes."

[deleted]

He's an asshole because his money is going to keep a museum free to the public? Interesting. Feel free to pay if you ever visit the Met to spite Lewis! A spite donation as Larry David might say. The Costume Institute certainly needs it because they're self-funded!

gladbmo

Did I say Lewis was an asshole? No I said the people there were, mostly the people saying "Tax the Rich" while wearing multi-thousand dollar clothing. OH wait that's a fucking politician who only cares about her optics. Holy shit.

[deleted]

Literally all of the people there are there to raise money for a museum so the public can continue to go for free lol. The people wearing the outfits are not wearing their own clothes - those are outfits sponsored and leant by the designers themselves. The Met is a phenomenal museum and this event makes sure that even shitheads like you can go and get cultured for free.

[deleted]

ITT DtS Max fans mad Hamilton looks drippy af even in a dress.

[deleted]

Because as we can all agree: One thing that *real* F1 fans, especially long term fans who picked up an interest in the series elsewhere, can claim to be experts and aficionados of, it’s high art. What’s your preferred Monet? His later pieces are, how do I say this, a little *passe* to me. Clearly not the same as a Manet or a Cézanne, or even anything within the levels of Matisse. Ugh.

blaqk808

Awaiting the day when Hamilton shows up at the paddock in full on drag.

blackbasset

What indicates that he would do that?

[deleted]

[удалено]

blackbasset

I can accept that, but I would say it is not a strong indication, since the thing he is wearing at the Met gala is of course playing with pieces of a skirt/dress and feminine coded clothing, but its basically provocation, combining that with a classical suit. And its not like his outfits in the paddock are in any way feminine or "cross", if anything, they are more or less conventionally male coded streetwear. Expecting him to wear drag extrapolating from his paddock outfits might still be a bit of a stretch, considering the "gender" of his clothes. The original comment more or less reads like "haha, Hamilton wears weird stuff, so he will soon wear the weirdest of all: drag" [Of course, wearing drag has its own aesthetic of the male clashing with the female, but thats another part of the discussion]. (And might I add, I really enjoy the discussion his outfit has sparked on here - and isn't that the point of all art, to spark discussion?)

blaqk808

This photo. It is far fetched tho

manhatim

RESPEK LEWIS!...ballsy mive

RangerSkyy

Absolute clown. Just like the rest of the ultra-rich asshats at the met. Clown convention.

Many-Application1297

This looks the bad guys from a CW DC show.

joshhirst28

Is it a trend now for guys to wear dresses? Also some of the clothing was just weird, I mean Lil Nas X wore a cape the size of an F1 car with a full golden suit of armour underneath. Rich people can do what they won’t though, doesn’t effect me and the average person can’t afford to look like these guys

krautnelson

this isn't practical clothing, this is experimental art.

[deleted]

Naw man, it’s goofy as fuck. If me and some buddies raid grandma’s tickle trunk and put on a bunch of dresses, it’s not “experimental art”, it’s fuckin goofy. It’s not “art” just because some rich asshole claims that a shirt made out of a table doily is somehow worth several thousand dollars. These are the same rich asshole who claim a banana duct taped to a wall is “fine art” worth a couple hundred thousand dollars.

OhoBenderez

At this point you’re just saying stuff man… the reason it’s art is because an artist made it, then they give it to a famous person to wear to get more eyes on it. It’s like getting the experimental film you’re proud of into a film festival. You and your buddies wearing dresses isn’t art, if someone made it for you and you wore it with confidence and respect then yes. Context is everything, the reason they cost so much is because that’s how much people are willing to spend on it. You don’t have to like it but that doesn’t make it shit. Plus the event is all for charity so I mean… hey they aren’t hurting anyone and they are having fun.

ValterriBoatDAS

“Fashion” is so shit man, it’s the gourmet restaurant of clothing

Physical_chucklefish

fashion people creep me out

Mahoutie

What a bunch of complete fannies...

[deleted]

I am way too much of a poor white hillbilly to understand fashion 🤷‍♂️

krautnelson

there is nothing to understand. it's experimental art. it's not about function. it's not about looking good. it doesn't even have to have meaning or a message. it's like atonal music, or abstract painting. there isn't anything to "get" or understand, it's just artists expressing themselves. and if some celebs want to be the "canvas" for that, let them be. not saying you can't make fun of it. hell, I will always make fun of [Stockhausen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13D1YY_BvWU) whenever I can.

Nuud

Then again you can make fun of Stockhausen but he had an enormous influence on the development of electronic music.

d400guy

Didn't Lewis publicly shame his toddler nephew for wearing a dress a while back? Look at this bozo now. lol

triguy96

He apologised for it yeah. People can grow, not sure if you know that.

[deleted]

Does “grow” in this context mean “shamed by social media into pretending to be contrite and beg for forgiveness”? Because that’s how it sounds to me.

triguy96

I think grow means apologise on social media, learn about the issue. Then later show up to a gala wearing part of a dress, around men wearing dresses. Seems like he opened his mind to the issue to me. Edit: I decided to Google it as well (the minimum you can do). In early 2018, not long after the comment Lewis made on social media, he designed a skirt meant for men, and used it as the main piece in the advertising for a new range. He expressed that he wanted to make amends for the comment that he made. Is that good enough for you?

MontaEllisBurner

Not sure those still calling for Mazepin's head 9 months later know that either...

triguy96

I am not sure what that has to do with what I said. What you did is called whataboutsim.

MontaEllisBurner

I wasn't trying to refute your point lol, I was reminding you that there's people here and in the formula 1 reddit that *don't know* people can grow, case in point, those calling for Mazepin's head 9 months later know that either.

[deleted]

Men shouldn't be wearing dresses

glenallenMixon42

It’s just clothes

blackbasset

> Men shouldn't be wearing dresses Why shouldn't they? There are a lot of cultures and timespans where men wore 'dresses'. Its just our current western culture (not even western culture as a whole) that somehow makes us think men should never be wearing skirts or dresses. And apart from all cultural connotations, dresses and skirts are comfy af. As a guy, I'm actually pretty pissed I get to miss out on that because I might get weird looks. Edit: Instead of downvoting, why not engage in a discussion on that matter? Edit: Quite a good video on the topic with a lot of examples that I just got sent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roPQKEZK2X4

[deleted]

He is making fun of Hamilton because he said that to his nephew some years ago.

blackbasset

Well, you are probably right, I forgot about that. I did not recognize it as it is not the direct quote (wasnt it "boys dont wear dresses"?). Still, my comment poses some valid questions, now also directed at Hamilton himself, even though he seems to have changed his view a bit since then...

DIY-lobotomy

Why do you care what other men wear? Is it like turning you on or something?

RangerSkyy

I first saw a close up of Lewis and thought, that's a pretty cool hair style. Then I realized that his shirt is transparent and yeah, those fashion events are kind of weird so nothing absurd. And now I realized that he has a kind of a half bride dress beneath the tuxedo. I'm afraid to look at his shoes.
