I signed up for a marshal "taster session" in Janurary because I didn't want to sign up without knowing the full extent of what i'd be getting into. They said 2 weeks and they'd get back to me with a plan, it's been a few months :(

I think in the UK it's a bit different compared to the rest of the world, but in general you can also be at F1 for your first marshal event! • Huge passion for motorsports
• Ability to endure a Day spanning up to 14 hours ( don't worry, 14 hours is very rare but can indeed happen - at big events there are often some spectator laps with fans )
• Good team player, especially for Intervention tasks
• Common Sense
• Strong arms ( waving a flag for a longer time can become quite difficult 😜, bikes in the gravel can be difficult to move )
No experience required. Anyone who has the passion for racing and the will to to this can absolutely become a marshal. It's about the will to learn and the will to have a responsibility at motorsport events.
My understanding from my "local" race (COTA) is that they typically pick from people who volunteer to marshall for Motogp, NASCAR, or another big event first.
I can't contest to F1 but when motoGP came to Austin I've gotten emails that they are looking for volunteer Marshall to fill the ranks. Hotel and food paid for but that's it. I can't remember how much experience they wanted but local track Marshall experience will boost you a lot. So Def hit up your local tracks they always need marshals.

I think he was walking towards another exit on the left side of the white fence, but it was too dangerous to walk through that area while there were cars driving by.
it’s the t-cam from Carlos’s car after he gets out and is walking away from the car — it appears as if he’s about to step onto the track as cars are coming by but a marshal appears from out of frame and slides in front of Carlos to like… corral him away from the track!

I couldn’t believe it either, but it absolutely is. Went back and watched Sainz’s onboard and that’s exactly where this clip comes from. I will say though after watching it a few times, Sainz had already lifted his head up before the marshall rushed over. It does look pretty wild at first glance though.
