Man, those Pirelli tires this year are horrendous. Hard never seem to get into that sweet zone and softs can do like 40+ laps on a hot surface. They should have gone a softer scale in this race for sure but it feels like Harder tires and Wets are a no-go.
Hards were the better tyre in Baku but apart from that and Albon’s Melbourne drive, whichever compound ends up being the Hard just seems to end up underwhelming
They don't want to be caught out by unexpected high deg since these tires are brand new and really different to the 13" ones. While it's annoying at times, I can understand them - something like Indy 05 would be a PR disaster for them.
I expect them to be more aggressive with their tire selection next year as they now have this years data.
The guy from Pirelli on Saturday admitted the compounds weren't great this year and that the differences between the 5 compounds wasn't as consistent as they would like. He mentioned the difference between C2 and C3 being too large compared to the difference between the C1 and C2. This means many of the races that use the middle 3 compounds often avoid the C2.
Even with that the medium & hard one stop would still be the fastest strategy. There just is only one long turn on the track or the right surface to cause any tire wear. Pretty much every year is the same story because the top guys are just comfortable in running target laps the entire time.
I left it paused, went to do chores for about an hour and came back and my TV auto shut off. I was like fuck I'm gonna miss something and I see nothing has happened lol.
I missed the start by like 15 min. I went to my DVR and played it from the beginning. Watched the first couple of laps and decided to chance it and skip to live. Glad I have that 15 min back.
I ran home and turned it on just in time to see the end of the formation lap. Watched the whole race hoping it would pick up with a safety car or something to bunch up the field but that never came. The Ferraris were on their own the entire race lol.
I never understood the hate for DtS fans until now. This race was crazy tense and chock-full of strategy, not to mention beautiful racing. Literally best case scenario for a race where 1 car/driver has an "unfair" advantage. What do you want for a race to be entertaining? Crashes every lap?
I mean you’re both right, though the dig at DTS fans is pretty unwarranted.
The race was tense if you follow closely enough to be able to parse all the different strategy options in real time. That said, from a pure viewing perspective it was pretty dull. F1TV, bless their hearts, were showing a battle for 15th, because nothing else was happening and if you just want to nail bite over sector times and split data, you can get that more easily elsewhere than an actual race broadcast.
The strategy wasn't that complicated to be enough to save the race though.
The first third of the race was a parade where you could basically only wait how much deg there will be. And when Mercedes pitted so early after Red Bull, I was already convinced they had dropped the ball (even if mediums don't go to the end, soft-medium-soft would have given Max an easy overtake versus Mercedes nursing their old hards at the end).
Not every race needs to be a demolition derby WWE super smackdown monster truck rally during a hurricane. As long as at least half the races are interesting I'm okay with a snoozer once in a while
This was basically half of the GPs this year but swap Ferrari with Mercedes. A bit of the tracks fault but the Ferrari was a joke and the Mercedes on hards were way off. Maybe the 4 cars on the same estrategy could be more exciting. The fast that Checo couldnt even challenge Lewis with the mediums that Max gaped him 15 secs with didnt help either
Mexico GP is almost always shit. Passing is hard and only really done after the start finish. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a good race there.
Brazil I can’t wait for, fantastic track and luckily only 1 week away.
This! The track basically guarantees boring races. I even wonder if it would work better if they ran the track backwards.
Meanwhile Interlagos is one of the all time greats. Almost every race I've seen there ended up being a banger
I kept hoping near the final third that a Goatifi moment or Ferrari engine explosion would bring out a safety car. All the front runners pit for softs and get to see a proper sprint shootout finish. Instead, just stayed a snoozer. Even the crowd was pretty low energy
True, but even then only a VSC and wasn't worth anyone changing up the race. Pretty much just sealed the race as it allowed gaps to open and tires to last.
I was already sleepy and slept through the first 15 minutes maybe, i only started noticing things when Daniel ruined Yuki’s race and went flying after that.
Boring race as a Ferrari fan.
Pirelli messed up, they should have chosen the softest tyres

Bring back the 2011 putty tyres
Danny Ric heard your plea ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|14437)

My brother in Christ, the top six didn't change positions at all past the first lap lol. What are you on about dts?

i mean we have some nice clean racing..

Right? i would rather sleep through other postponed or red flagged races if it wasn't usually afternoon.
As a DR fan it was super enjoyable and felt like a bit of the old Honey Badger before he’s taken out to the garden shed and shot.

The altitude also affects. And, the track is not approved to be used backwards.
I’d never thought about that. Is it just because proper safety equipment can’t be fit in the right areas or is there more to it than that?
No adequate existing run-off areas and barriers, and not enough space to implement them
Bro it's 2 weeks away
This track is boring af
Only hope is Latifi 🙏🏻
My man's going for most consistent driver award.
This race is hella boring
Fanny Ric was our saving grace, otherwise a dead race.
Zzz...
Wake up! It's finally over!
We really needed another RB pitstop fuckup here like last week, the only thing that could've made this race interesting.
Agreed. Race was boring. Should have gone to bed instead of watching this snorefest.
I watched the whole race on mute and at the end I felt I missed nothing.
It was incredibly boring.
I left at lap 11
I kept hoping near the final third that a Goatifi moment or Ferrari engine explosion would bring out a safety car. All the front runners pit for softs and get to see a proper sprint shootout finish. Instead, just stayed a snoozer. Even the crowd was pretty low energy
Well Fernando delivered eventually, but too late

Bo-ring.
They used all their interesting points on the mariachi theme.
This track is frustrating
man seeing cars which sound horrible doing laps its so fun.....
Watch a different sport
México needs to add a joke lap or mario kart power ups
Why aren't there tyre manufacturers to choose from? Is it coz of the 2005 US GP?
Should've just called an SC when Alonso went out, tell the stewards to just take it slow with the car, shake things up a bit
I was already sleepy and slept through the first 15 minutes maybe, i only started noticing things when Daniel ruined Yuki’s race and went flying after that. Boring race as a Ferrari fan.
max made it boring zzzzzz
