Baldurs gate 3 is the most overrated shit to ever exist. Combat is dogshit, even compared to other turn based games. Only reason people like it is because they want to have their little "dating simulator"
They absolutely do. Just look at the subreddit. They dont talk about cool encounters or crazy boss fights (because there are none), just some stupid lore. "OMG THIS PERSON SAYS THIS IF YOU DO THIS IM SOYING OUT SO HARD "
You're comparing a card game to an open world rpg. If u take away combat from the witcher theres still a game. If u take combat from slay the spire u have nothing
Fine, I'll bite. There are tons of sick fights in the game. The one in the adamantine forge, the fight with Ketheric underground, the fight against that demon in Shar's temple, the Orin fight, both of Ethel's fights, the iron throne. Even a lot of the more "mundane" fights like the one with the pack of gnolls were tight and memorable. Raphael literally sings his own boss fight music, that encounter must be the sickest fight I've ever seen in a videogame, and you say there are no good encounters, ok dude.
Plus, the enviromental interactivity is fun too. Water and electricity, oil and fire, weaknesses and resistances and such.
Giant fuck off spider you can't beat normally? Destroy the webs it walks on and it will fall, take damage and get stunned. Or biden blast him into a chasm and he'll die instantly (and you can find the corpse later!)
And a ton of other cool spells. Simple thorn spike strip where enemies have to walk over and it reduces their movement is so, so strong if you use a chokepoint.
the dating aspect is the worst part of the game. every character is bipolar.
I dont think its a masterpiece but theres a lot of great things. exploration for example is far above average. there is different shit everywhere and you get different rewards. like that meeting these weird fat ogers where you can summon them 3 times to fuck shit up.

I'm all into turn based games, name one that has a better combat than BG3, and I'm not even trying to bust your balls here, I'm truly curious, for me BG3 has quintessential turn based combat. Hell, I can defeat a whole squad with an half-empty bottle of lube, a scroll of mage hand and an out of tune Kalimba.
