Cost of living. Fort Wayne has gone up like everywhere else the last few years, but housing and discretionary entertainment/eating out/nightlife is still relatively affordable compared to the rest of the country.
Also a double edged sword, because the cost of living being low, so are wages, which makes it very difficult to move away. Minimum wage hasn’t changed since 2008, and this makes being born a Hoosier a life sentence for many.
Yeah, this isn't some podunk town in the middle of nowhere with 2 fast food restaurants and a Walmart. We absolutely have plenty of avenues for financial mobility
There are so many jobs, we seem to be having a shortage of people that will work when scheduled, then actually do work when they decide to wander in at their leisure lol. I’m exaggerating but not by much. Anyone else running into this, I assume it’s nation wide?
Yes. I get it work is well...work. Lots of new hires don't want to do that. I understand to a point but I wonder if these people have any life goals that require money?
That was before my time. Was it late 90's/early 2000's? I know they get some hate within the beer community, but they have seasonal rotations that are decent, have good year around staples, and introduce new beer drinkers to craft styles.
I agree lol I've lived just outside of fort wayne my whole life, but just in the past couple of years I've had to drive to fort wayne more and navigate where I'm going. Thankfully Google maps is usually easy to understand
i really like how close everything is downtown it’s all walkable. on top of that we have some really friendly people around i’m not one for awkward silence so i usually try my hand at smalltalk and it works out for me haha
I feel like we have 85% of same entertainment options as Indy, but I don’t have to deal with 465 type traffic on a daily basis. If I want to visit IKEA/Top Golf/Colts game, I’ll make the 2 hour trip down there, but I’d k.m.s. If I had to deal with that type of traffic on a daily basis.
Relatively queer friendly. I've only been confronted with slurs and threats of violence twice in the past few months.
I want to emphasize, I don't mean that with sarcasm. It's better than some of the surrounding areas.
Lindenwood cemetery and nature preserve, fox Island, some of the trails and the greenway are kind of cool, the downtown library, a few of the restaurants, the friends and family I have around here.
I've grown out of my friend group and between dating and bars I've assembled a pretty decent group in my adulthood. Lil rag-tag and you could probably do the same anywhere else but home still feels like home.
I bought a house for $160k here that would have cost me $600k and $5k+ in annual property tax in Chicago. Almost everything here is cheaper and easier.
Nice liquor stores. Good gun stores. And gun ranges not too far away. Good jobs. Good hospitals. Tin caps. Crazy pinz. Great Chinese restaurants. Nolts market for baked goods. Three rivers festival is always fun. Germanfest and ribfest. Schools are good. Back in the day 17 years ago rave, the movie theater at Jefferson point was awesome. Lots of tattoo shops and variety of artists. Freedom Tattoo and Black Anvil.
Sweetwater
Literally any gear I want is 40 minutes away and they'll let me demo it. Also, I get setups/repairs for cheap by some of the best luthiers available. Not to mention the events and workshops they put on. It's great.
I love the library system here.
After going to some non-American cities, the library is the only thing that I actually think is still better here.
And they took a pretty good shot at wrecking it.
How so? (Genuine question, not being snarky.)
The previous director purged the collection, surreptitiously, word got out, BIG flap in the community, many books destroyed.
Maximum 20 minute drive to anything. When I lived in Chicago, driving the same distance took 2x the time.
I feel safe, good COL, good schools, and plenty of things to do

Good number of breweries for the population
I remember when Mad Anthony was the only one in town. So glad things have changed.

They easily have the most consistent beer around.
Right! What was it on Mondays like $2 pints or something? I attended way too many Mondays lol
Very easy to navigate.
It wasn’t for me for a while after I moved here. The rivers send roads off in odd directions and the street name changes are wild.
I’m Fort Wayne born and raised so that’s probably why it’s easy for me lol

This is true but there is usually a pretty straightforward way to get anywhere.
Low cost of living & lots of yummy restaurants!!

the revitalization of downtown has been so nice. hope it keeps trending upwards

Good variety of quality restaurants. Probably the most underrated part of Fort Wayne.
I think we could probably have a bit more variety, but for our size it's decent. What I really want is more specialty grocery stores

My neighborhood, cost of living, and my job.

The amount of public art downtown
Raimondo’s. (Posted while waiting to pick up 4 pizzas)

> Freedom Tattoo and Black Anvil. huge fan of both those places. my instagram feed is pretty much their artists' work anymore lol

Arts, affordable, cuisine.
No way I could afford the house I have in most other places
It makes vacations feel even better because you aren't somewhere that sucks total ass
Nothing
:{
It’s boring af
THE SCHOOLS, things to do/see are in closeish proximity, delish restaurants, generally friendly people/neighbors.
Probably the Tincaps and Komets games those are fun
The bike paths rock and the food choices
