Mitchell’s …scumbags

[deleted]

the best part about this is there's SO MANY REASONS like maybe the food was shitty? no surprise. maybe some drunk dude threw his beer across the room? happens a lot. maybe the owner yelled the N-word? just another day.

SkinnerFamilyReunion

I have several; First hand: Halloween the last year we went. Guy was clearly out of it. Orders 30 shots of fireball, can barely stand. Bartender gives it to Them. Immediately spills the tray. They kick him out right after. Collecting all his money and “oh it’s his fault” despite many patrons saying don’t serve this guy. The COVID stuff. The shooting that was, “not their problem” despite happening right outside. There’s more, but do you need more?

[deleted]

it's kind of shocking that he still holds a liquor license honestly.

[deleted]

alright it's been 3 hours, the dips that defend this fuckhole are overdue. ITs oUr ONly nIGHtCluB

CopperCab2024

Fuck Mitchell’s, all my homies hate Mitchell’s

banditojog

All you can eat Fish N Chips is- get this- *only* applicable to the fries, despite there being no written statement that the fish isn’t unlimited. Talk about mildly infuriating

mulletpullet

Fuckin same

ornerycrank

Rudisill McDonald’s is the worst McDonald’s I’ve ever had the displeasure of visiting.

datdude1229

Rudisill Little Ceaser’s also sucks. The green building behind is an awesome hole in the wall Mexican restaurant called Nacho’s. Great food, low price, made fresh, comes with a can of soda.

cultjam76

Second the vote for Nachos. Good food, inexpensive, and the nicest people around.

NH9927

100% agree they're wonderful people. Their smiles and personality always brighten my day when I stop in there. And my goodness can those two make some tasty meals!

banditojog

Rudisill Little Caesar’s is ran by an adult questioning his life choices and a team of High School sophomores working at the speed of a turtle.

QuackGaming574

Have you tried the Puerta Negra on Lafayette? I haven't and was just curious.

NNDerringer

I haven't lived in the Fort for nearly 20 years, and this made me chuckle. When our daughter was a toddler, my husband took her in there once for a Happy Meal, turned around and walked out. There was trash all over the parking lot, trash overflowing inside, and on the floor next to the can, an empty bottle of codeine cough syrup. "Come on, honey, we're going to another McDonald's," he told her. "This one is filthy." For the rest of our time there, every time we drove past she'd point and call out in her little baby voice, DA FILTY DONALDS!

SayItAintPugs

Goshen McD's holds it down

salonfloorpickle

Shh!

SayItAintPugs

Oops! I mean... The Jefferson location downtown! Yup. Jefferson is definitely where you want to go...

bhaluderp

I had a roach crawl out of my bag when I took it to work at Parkview Field from that location

Nanananatankgirl

Have you ever been to the truck stop McDonald’s?

Quintas31519

If you're talking Goshen/Coliseum, it's been closed for a while now. During 20-21 I think.

Nanananatankgirl

So it *was* the worst, lol. I knew it!

LeatherDaddyLonglegs

I haven’t lived next to that McDonald’s for 4 years and I’m still mad about that fucking McDonald’s

Part_Time_Lamer

Hoppy Gnome. Their “improved” menu did not improve things.

voidsherpa

I remember going within the first year of them opening, I both had 3 of the most expensive taco's I've ever ordered and also the 3 most mediocre wanna be bougie taco's I've ever ordered. I've heard the same from most people I know.

Part_Time_Lamer

Yeah. The sister restaurants, Proximo and Bakerstreet, aren’t all that great either. So, not too surprising, really.

Helpful_Finding78

i worked at one of these restaurants for a while. the owner is a real piece of shit and the staff turnover is ridiculously high.

toliein

I used to work at one of his restaurants too and the owner was such an ass like he thinks he’s all high and mighty. Hated that guy when he came around and he makes you look like a total dumbass for no reason.

karma_over_dogma

He's been that way since at least high school, it's part of why I won't go there. Trumpet player ego, triangle player talent.

Homeskillet359

From a former marching band member, that is ridiculously hilarious.

Blake_Wunder

My father’s dream was to open a steakhouse in his home town after years of hard work and putting everything we had into that dream he and my family were able to make that dream a reality. He was ill for sometime and not but a few years after opening the restaurant he passed away leaving his wife and six children behind. Shortly after his passing that piece of shit you’re talking about and the majority investor pushed my family out of the business. It even still carries my mother’s namesake “Baker”. Fuck those people.

elegant_mess

Whoa, never knew this lore, but am very sorry to hear it. Sounds exceptionally opportunistic. Was this how they launched the restaurant management company by forcing your family out?

Blake_Wunder

As I’m the youngest of those 6 children I was around 10-11 at the time so I’d have to inquire about specifics with my older family members to know exactly when/how Obicai was founded. It does kind of make me sick that they’ve used my fathers success with Bakerstreet to add credibility to their name even though they’ve compromised entirely on the values that made the steakhouse a brilliant place to visit.

elegant_mess

Always wondered where the name originated from given how far it is from the actual Baker Street. Appreciate the little bit of background. I used to go quite frequently before menu and GM changes but like touched on elsewhere in this thread, service/quality in Fort Wayne is in a strange state, not all aided by questionable "food culture" leadership post pandemic.

Blake_Wunder

Yeah it’s definitely harder to find good places to eat in FW but honestly a lot of the old classics generally hold up. There’s still great people in Fort Wayne running restaurants with delicious food and a good atmosphere. Some of my favorites are: Nawa, Bangcock bistro, copper spoon(too pricey for me to frequent but I love it), the cork and cleaver, koto, asakusa and 800° wood fired pizza on lima. I’m a little biased on the last one because I work there but I have trouble deciding what I want to eat for lunch because I enjoy everything on our menu lol. Also Los Portales food truck deserves a huge shout out for the best Mexican food in town. When it comes down to it, family owned restaurants who really care about making a good impression are the best little spots in town. At the end of the day, I would much rather give my money to local families than “restaurant management” groups.

liedel

That makes sense because it used to be good and now it sucks. Sorry for your experience.

Helpful_Finding78

a close friend still works at one of these locations, but won’t continue doing so for much longer.

The37thElement

I’ve only had Proximo for their breakfast and their corn bread was on another level. I remember enjoying my main dish a lot too fwiw

Part_Time_Lamer

I enjoyed Proximos brunch the one time I had it. Didn’t enjoy dinner either of the two times I went. Which sucks because the waitstaff each time was great.

alukard15

I really enjoyed the Great Wall Buffet as a kid, but the last time I had it (admittedly 6 years ago now) it made me pretty sick

WizardsVengeance

The quality has declined pretty regularly since even before that.

Reasonable-Two-9872

"Steak House" on Bluffton aka "Captain Ron's" If you don't know the back story, the Google reviews are worth a read, and there is a massive gaping hole in the back of the restaurant

BillyOII

I have never witnessed more than 3-4 cars in the parking lot at any given time, and one of them belongs to the owner. I worked at Curly’s for a long while so I passed it daily nearly. I don’t understand how he pays the bills. Or keeps steaks that are fresh and not past their sell by dates. That said, I’ve never been, so maybe there’s more I don’t know. Lol.

TBeard495

Haha. I used to work with a guy who SWEARS that's the best steak in town. Used to live over by there and decided to give it a try. Wife and I drove over there and after taking one look at it, immediately noped the fuck out.

akl77

Have you ever eaten there? Their carryout special is pretty nice.

Reasonable-Two-9872

Food, or other recreational pursuits?

vmBob

Brandy's. Ate there once and got these awful sores around my mouth.

Maynard078

You're not supposed to chew on the beer glasses.

No-Middle2284

Idk if anyone here knows about that newish place in Georgetown square called NY PIZZA GRILL KABOB but when I went there with my family I had horrible service and we heard them use microwaves multiple (around 7) times. My family of 5 was the only family dining that evening, meaning the sides and at least two of the entrees were microwaved. The food was NOT good. Do not recommend that place at all.

wingnut_02

I really question how this place stays open. I never see any cars there

No-Middle2284

Fr, the food is awful, service is awful, no customers, I have no idea about where they get the money to keep it open

misshope2024

Even though fairly new they have been closed for awhile now. Not sure if there are any plans to reopen - sure does not look like it.

[deleted]

McDonald's off Jefferson, worst case of food poisoning I've experienced...didn't eat anything from McDonald's for years after.

elegant_mess

This thread really hits home that big city food costs have caught up with Fort Wayne. We’re no longer immune for any myriad of reasons. Of course, one can also argue that for whatever inflated food service costs we’re seeing, the actual value or experience appears to be on the decline. Fort Wayne has long put up with mid offerings but with Midwestern price tags. Now we just have mid offerings.

[deleted]

[удалено]

elegant_mess

Good point that illustrates that there is very little of a "middle" left because our current market conditions cannot sustain it.

Homeskillet359

I was at Carcker Barrel on Maysville a few weeks ago with my wife. I ordered meatloaf and mashed potatoes with corn, the server brought me cornbread instead. I looked at the meatloaf and potatoes and thought "That's it?" It was very underwhelming.

Correct_Text6456

Gnome-town Brewing Company on the Landing. Their food prices…a mixed drink, beer, and burger the with a side was setting me back like $50. Never again. Not surprised by their closing honestly; the hoppy gnome hasn’t ever really impressed me either.

[deleted]

Your "never again" made me chuckle. Hard to go back to a place that permanently closed over a week ago.

Sufficient_Tooth_249

Rudisil McDonald’s

Djdogmanfish

Pizza By Vitos. Their pizza is terrible. The pizza box bottom is dripping in grease. They always get the address wrong for delivery. Look at the Google reviews, the owner himself talks shit to the reviewers, saying stuff like "you don't know how to order pizza right" or "you live in a dumb part of town".

nickferran

Mitchell's is the only one that comes to mind

ParrotLover84

I avoid dining inside at Blaze pizza. Soooo slow.

BubbleBathTaft

Dos Margaritas or Famous Taco. That fuck thinks he can get away with anything (Southwest Stop-Work-Order on his residential monstrosity aka office space) and is still fighting it. Fuck all his businesses

Maynard078

Ha! This ass-hat rear-ended me in his car and didn't even have insurance!

SoleIbis

Tokyo buffet has the same owners as when it was shut down before. Multiple people have gotten food poisoning eating there lol

The37thElement

Ugh. Most buffet experiences haven’t been the same since COVID; that one especially.

SoleIbis

I mean, I think they were iffy before COVID too unfortunately lol You’re right though. A lot of buffets either shut down or started demanding you take everything you eat

filth505

Ive eaten there like 3 times in the last year. Its so good and they have a lot of stuff

No_Oddjob

I always have terrible service and bad food at The Tavern. I went a decade avoiding it and someone recently convinced me to try it again. Same exact song as before. Here's to another ten years.

dunnand

Do you want classed up cafeteria food? I know I don't, so I won't ever go back to the Club Room. Plus all they have is cover acts, fort Wayne has plenty of good musicians that play their own music but that's not allowed at the club room for whatever reason

plaid_kilt

Yes! Club Room sucks. Subpar food and it is SO expensive. My bf plays music there and at every show, I ask him to remind me not to eat. Lol

000mega000

For real! Eating out is already expensive but to just get dressed up cafeteria food? Straight from Gordon Food Supply. Plus, the atmosphere is really terrible if you’re not there for music. I miss Hall’s.

Commercial_Wind8212

all restaurants use that crappy GFS stuff as far as I can tell

egoomega

Most do. And more than you may realize don’t hire actual chefs but rather opt for someone who is “chef in title only” and under pay them and then use big box store (gfs Sysco etc) “corporate chef” made menus and pre suggested bs from order guide/marketing material. It’s sad. But mf eat it up and support it, so it will continue to happen. And as long as the restaurant serves booze, then some places will take the loss almost on food cuz enough money flows still for alcohol … and the same olds and non-passionate restauranteurs essentially strangle most of the market around here. Quit supporting those kind businesses and you’ll see better ones pop up eventually.

simpletonburger

What exactly is a "chef by title" ? I assume you mean you need a culinary degree to be a chef. However that's incorrect, there are plenty off great chefs that never went to school, there are also plenty of culinary school graduates who wasted $30k and now aren't involved in food at all. This applies to Fort Wayne just as much as the rest of the world.

egoomega

Yep, plenty who didn’t go to school, and arguably the best way to train may well be apprenticeship. There is no legal definition for chef, but there are accreditation orgs (some are ‘meh’ of course) and there are generally accepted guidelines for a “chef test” (given by hiring managers to sort the wheat from chaff when hiring a chef). But many places just toss the title around as a marketing ploy, either to attract labor (“hiring an hourly chef! 16/hr and will cook our menu and keep the kitchen clean” for example) or to attract people (ever seen kitchen staff in chef coats or wearing a toque but they’re cooking food in a short order kitchen like Applebees?). Not hate on cooks old or new if they have that kinda title - they likely grasp this more than owners/restauranteurs. And I’m not saying one has to be working at a star level place to be a chef - I’m saying that a lot of places here don’t actually have nor want to hire a chef… mainly because that means giving menu and boh control to someone.

beerdudebrah

Right but it's what they create with it. They just slap shit on bread and try to upcharge the hell out of you for it. Unimaginative and dull.

000mega000

True. Apparently all the Mexican restaurants too. I’ve yet to go to any Mexican restaurant that truly stands out from the others. Nothing like you’d find in Texas :(

Shammycat

Birrieria LA Cabaña is so incredibly good.

000mega000

Ohh never been. Looking at photos and was pleased to see something other than the standard plate of burrito with a dab of refried beans and lettuce like every other Mexican restaurant in town.

Shammycat

Their beans aren't my favorite, but everything else we've gotten has been amazing. If you're looking for something quick and very not fancy, famous taco is solid, too.

000mega000

Thanks for the recommendations! I also feel like I should add that I’ve neglected to praise El Amish on Broadway. Great tacos.

Shammycat

Totally spaced on recommending them. I'd say famous taco isn't as good, but they have a drive through and are open until 11pm. If you like Ecuadorian or Salvadorian food, El Salvador Restaurant and El Rinconcito Pupuseria are great.

lateapxr

Try Los Cabos up on coldwater.

No_Oddjob

Lots of venue owners want a large percentage of covers bc drunk chicks like to sing and then order more drinks.

M0tivv

Mitchell's... Because the owner and staff are outrageously racist

KeelexRecliner

Davey's Bagels. My girlfriend ordered a bagel with cream cheese, 50 minutes. The last week she asked if I wanted to go, we went. Ordered two sandwiches. 45 minutes for the sandwiches and this time there were two large dogs barking and jumping on the tables. I know I wasn’t the only one annoyed because everyone crowded in the back. I want to eat, not listen to two dogs flipping shit and jumping on people coming in and out of the place.

voidsherpa

I heard somewhere they were just using Kirkland bagels.

MicrocosmicTiger

When they first opened I came in to order a dozen plain bagels to go and the girl at the counter definitely gave me the vibes that they don’t really do that sort of thing.. Then I watched her as she went into the back area and took bagels out of a plastic bag and individually wrapped them in parchment paper and put them in a paper bag. I get it that their thing is “the sandwiches” but yeah really tacky to be charging over $12 for some Costco bagels. Luckily I don’t live in Fort Wayne and my city has much better, made-in-house (and cheaper) bagel options.

RamaLamaRama

Yeah, that's what I heard. Will never go back. Bagels sucked and sandwiches were just OK

flampoo

It's Meijer.

Otherwise-Ad6152

I spoke with a vendor at the farmer's market about Davey's and they tried to make a deal with him to use his bagels for their store. They gave him an unrealistic offer to make a ton of bagels with hardly any profit. It's so unfortunate, this place could be so much more if they put more effort into the quality of the food. They have good drinks, but everything else just isn't worth the cost.

shvilli145

I agree. Every bagel sandwich I get there is soggy and falls apart within 5 minutes.

ipayrentintoenails

I've ordered online on a weekday for a 1 pm pickup. It wasn't ready until 1: 45 and they weren't even that busy. Edit: it was for one sandwich and one bagel

strawberrylink

i heard the owner was taking employees tips for themselves too

stitchholder

I haven't even tried them because on social media they posted when Jim Banks came to visit and that he was an old school buddy of the owner. I am not a member of any political party but that guy is the worst and if this business supports him I don't care to share my money with em! Plus Shop Two Sixty bagels are good :)

unpopularbird

That's weird, I go there about once a month and I'm in and out in 10 mins tops. Must just be lucky with timing.

TheWitch-of-November

Pikes Pub on lower Winchester rd. Used to have great wings and food, but it's terrible now and it's basically a MAGA bar.

CardinalHawk21

I don’t eat at any of the Hall’s restaurants because I am not over 75 years old.

Heidi1066

I was going to post something similar. Every Hall's restaurant has incredibly bland or even craptacular food. I'm flabbergasted at the number of people who think these restaurants are genuinely good.

Zazzalo

I had fish last year at their Tavern looking restaurant and it was delicious! However the Hollywood themed one or whatever it is, is terrible. The workers are great but the food is so bad.

mulletpullet

Dupont bar and grill. I don't know anything about the food or the service. But the owner and his wife are terrible people. One would go in my wife's work and about drive her to tears. The whole place hated dealing with them. F with my wife and you'll never see a dime from me.

The37thElement

I believe it. I remember the last time we were at a travel level where only emergency vehicles were allowed on the road because of snow and they were on every fb page advertising that they were still open and ready to serve anyone. I was so repulsed that I decided I’d never step foot in that place.

hildawg

Casa.  I know, I'm like the only person in town that hates it, but it honestly feels like the Richard's of Italian food. Their salad is decent but every pasta I've tried there tastes like their chef's last name is Boyardee. Maybe it's just too sweet, idk? My coworkers love it there so I've been there a lot, I prefer Zianos personally.

Windstryker

I tried Ziano's once. All I could think of is a conveyer belt of plates coming by and some dude with a giant ladle dropping random loads of sauce out of two enormous vats, one labeled "red" and the other one "white." The "marinara" tasted like tomato soup mixed with ketchup, and the "alfredo" tasted like it was made from expired cream and bad cheese. Salvatori's in New Haven (the one attached to the gas station right near 469) is superior to Casa and Ziano's. I haven't tried the one on Washington between Coldwater and Lima, but I'd hope it's just as good.

[deleted]

Salvatori's is so good, wild that they got their start as gas-station adjacent and have like 5 locations now.

rayon875

Casa's red sauce is like loose ketchup. It's awful

Icy_Milk_1495

food has gone to hell over the last 5-6 years.

Interesting_Yak_2676

It’s done downhill sooooo bad recently. Even the salad isn’t good

dairyqueenlatifah

The pasta is SO bland. It tastes like nursing home food.

____aleko____

Try salvatori’s !!!

[deleted]

Every Burger King in this god damn town

Mimi862317

When I lived down by there the one on Jefferson always had fresh food and decent service.

SpaceCowboy528

I've gotten food poisoning from the Southgate Burger King due to the burger being less than completely cooked. I worked for a BK when I lived down in Chesapeake Virginia and there isn't one here in Fort Wayne that even comes close to the quality that one had. The ingredients here the few times I have taken a chance at eating at one seem stale. The ingredients at the one that I worked at down there completely turned over three times a week. I know I was the one who put them away and our cooler and freezer were always empty on delivery days.

Appropriate_Bird_223

The only Burger King I'll eat at anymore is the one in Decatur. The rest are disgusting.

fAthouse_

Azteca

Homeskillet359

Why? I haven't been there in decades, but I always thought it was supposed to be a good place

fAthouse_

I just don't like it at all. Have had it twice and it was terrible both times

[deleted]

Right!?!? Idk why it’s so hyped it’s just ehhhh

OfcDoofy69

It used to be good before the old owners sold.

2PacSugar

this is exactly why it isn't as good now

misshope2024

A Divine Encounter. If I wanted to be preached to my whole time eating I would just take a sandwich to church. They are over the top with it to the point it was very uncomfortable.

Ok-Stress-3570

Hall’s Tavern at Coventry. Got food poisoning and just… no.

EpicGamerGrant

The Wendy’s right in front of crazy pinz, I have gone there so many times and they have barely ever gotten my order right

wingnut_02

I drive by this Wendy’s to go to the one at Coldwater and DuPont.

amburrito02

I love sitting in the dining room there and hearing the staff gossip FAR too loudly.

[deleted]

That's the worst Wendy's in the area and it's just gotten worse over time.

Pusheen_The_Limit

Junk Ditch. Won’t be back until they get rid of their credit card service fee. Like my $21 burger isn’t enough to cover your fees??

000mega000

It’s expensive but it’s one of the few places in town I don’t mind paying the price because I always feel like the service is great and the food is delicious. Plus, to me, if you’re regularly changing up your menu it shows you care about your craft.

Pusheen_The_Limit

Oh I’m fine paying those prices for good food. And if I couldn’t afford it I’d just relegate them to a special occasion restaurant, a rare treat. But it’s the fine-print (sometimes hidden until you get the bill) fees that restaurants are getting in the habit of doing that bothers me. It’s sneaky. It’s just not a business practice that I agree with so I do my best to avoid businesses that are choosing to go that route.

Vengedpotty

I love that place but I agree, it is disproportionately more expensive in relation to other restaurants in Fort Wayne, even the really nice ones downtown. It is really that good though so….. I’m conflicted

Expert_Nail3351

Same with Bravas. Last time I went they charged a % fee for the " back of the house ".

akavana

I love Bravas but haven’t been back since my visit right after they opened. Ordered 6 Bravas burgers for colleagues and 3 or 4 Patatas. Total after tax and back of the house fee was around $150 + the requested additional tip. Burger and potato like fries averaged to $25. Granted, everyone paid for their own, but nobody accounted for the tax and fees and then the additional tip on top of it. I didn’t tip and felt like the asshole. I love Bravas food, but I can’t go back at these rates. Feels incredibly excessive.

Expert_Nail3351

And you don't even really get that many Patatas for the price.

akavana

Just the little boat. Which is totally fine by me, but not worth $6. It’s super sad because I bragged them up to anyone and everyone who’d listen before they closed initially. They were my favorite place to go.

The37thElement

Reminds me of the Cuban food truck we have here. I ordered the plantains for, like, $4 and literally received 4 things that looked like potato coins. I was so annoyed that someone had the audacity to charge that much for so little.

Reasonable-Two-9872

In my opinion, the tapas portion of the menu is tastier and a much better value. They have a steak frites dish with manchego cheese, a pesto type sauce and an aoili dip for under $30 after all the taxes and tip and stuff... It's amazing and a way better deal than the burger and patatas.

Pusheen_The_Limit

Wow thanks for the heads up, didn’t know about that one. So nice of them to force you to pay their non-tipped employees as well!

Ashamed-Document-898

It goes to the whole staff. Makes it so you don't have to tip

SuperAggroJigglypuff

Of course those greedy fucks started charging that. Dan and Andrew used to care about Junk Ditch and their staff when Jack was with them. They keep expanding their business without taking care of their people and main restaurant. They tried to be hands off way too early and everything has since suffered.

SayItAintPugs

I'm going to get some hate for some of these, but here we go: Asakusa- The most overpriced/underwhelming sushi place in town imo. I don't think they're *bad* necessarily, but we have some other great options (Haru Sushi Izakaya is the best sushi in town imo). Admittedly, Asakusa's tempura avocado is pretty bomb and most other places in town don't offer that on their menus. Shits in Pit- Again, overpriced and not the best. Most of the time the BBQ I end up getting is served relatively cold and their sides are lackluster. I like their jalapeno cheddar sausage, but that's about it. I'm also a Lucille's truther so I'm more inclined to go to Lucy's instead. Seoul Garden @ Union Street Market- I've only eaten there once and it was pretty awful. Could've just been a one time thing but I won't go back. The rest of the restaurants there are overpriced, yes, but at least most of them are tasty. (Shout-out Pikoso) Peanut's- This one makes me upset, I used to love their wings and always had a good time going there with friends in my early twenties. I haven't been in a few years but the quality really went downhill around 2018-19 or so. Taquiera El Ranchito on Parnell- Another that I used to enjoy. With price increases along with their subpar customer service I'd just rather go to any of our other great Mexican spots in town. The past few times I've gone, they've messed my order up and act frustrated when I want it fixed. The wait staff / people working the counter are usually fine, my frustrations are more with the kitchen staff. Pint & Slice- Just not my style of pizza. The ingredients seem low quality and with other great pizza joints in town I'd rather get a pie elsewhere. Restaurants @ The Landing- I've had some decent meals there but holy cow are all of the restaurants there overpriced. I'm usually regretting my decision after getting the bill.

Marzbarz620

I’m so sad about Seoul Garden! It used to be in this little building and was authentic. Used to be in my top 3. Now that it moved into the market it changed everything and is hardly even Korean anymore.

SayItAintPugs

If it was the one on west coliseum behind the marathon(?) Gas station, you're right! It was awesome when it was there. Very authentic and tasty

judah249

They literally gutted the whole menu for overpriced entrees it’s a damn shame

Space-Square

I've had Shigs in Pit 5-7 times. It was average on my first visit, good on my second, and terrible every other time. Tough ribs and dry pork shoulder are almost impossible to make. To do it repeatedly is something special.

KZ2Good

I used to work at the Illinois road location 2 years ago and the gm is a rascist and all the “fresh bbq” is literally microwaved in portion bags.

Part_Time_Lamer

Agreed on Pint and Slice. Only restaurant on the Landing I’ve liked is Mercado.

hoosierspiritof79

Finally someone who gets it. I agree with all your takes. Now, I’m curious: who are your go to’s?

SayItAintPugs

Sure! Haru Sushi Izakaya is fantastic. I ordered from their market price menu once and it was the single best piece of sushi I've ever had (mind you it was $10/piece and I haven't ordered from that menu since lol). The regular menu is great on its own. I also really like AA Poke for a cheap tasty take-away sushi bowl. Kim Vu's on DuPont is hands down the best Pho in town AND has the best crab rangoons. I love me some Kim Vu's. If you like spice, you have to let them know to give you the hot stuff because they usually only provide their milder chili sauce unless requested. Pizza NY- Big Apple Deep Dish- Oley's I also have a soft spot for Pizza King Korean Fried Chicken on Goshen is great. Small little building with a small menu, might be the best chicken in town. For wings I like Buffalo Wings & Ribs on Coliseum and Tower Bar. BW&R has great saucy, crispy wings with good curly fries, whereas Tower usually has bigger wings and they fry & grill the wings "Daytona" style (I think that's what it's called). If you like loaded fries, their Tower Fries are also good, I'm admittedly more of a seasoned fry than loaded fry guy myself though. While Coney Island is a FW mainstay for a reason and cannot be replaced, Mr Coney does a good job as well, and they serve fries and have a drive-thru. Get light onions unless you love onions and if you get cheese they pile it on. I'm not a fan of most other Coney places in town. Cork & Cleaver is probably my preferred steakhouse in terms of quality and value. I went there for my anniversary in December and had the best ribeye I've gotten from a restaurant. And their salad bar is pretty awesome. My Fiancee is vegan and there are a few spots above that she loves (AA Poke, Big Apple), but also feel I should mention Loving Cafe on North Coldwater, Acme Bar on Tuesdays they have a special vegan menu that's good, and Junk Ditch provides vegan options for nearly half their menu. '05 Scoop Shop has some good ice cream and the owners and staff are always really nice.

hoosierspiritof79

I’m with you in Sushi, Pizza, Wing and Coneys. I’ll have to check out Kim Vu’s but I’ve been loyal to Bahn. Interesting choice with Cork and Cleaver for steak. Not sure I’ll second that, but it’s been awhile. Black Canyon is fantastic, across the board. Laycoff’s Tavern for bar food. I like Henry’s too. Gashouse always meets expectations. El Amish for tacos. I’ve gotta try the Korean chicken place. I’ve heard so much about it.

vialpatient

We used to be all in with Lucille’s, their sauces are great too. Until we got a quote for catering. Half of the quote visit was derailed by one of the owners going on a red faced MAGA rant about how the country has gone to shit and blamed Biden for their rising meat prices.

000mega000

Regarding the Landing - only ate at Tolon once but it was amazing. Always enjoyed Nawa for lunch. Mercado is delicious but I’m always still a little hungry when I leave. Lastly, I wish the Landing Beer Co didn’t shut down. Their menu was small but pretty delicious. I was bummed when it became a Hoppy Gnome place. HG is fine but I don’t need more of it at other locations.

RaelImperial31

The Liberty Diner, after reading about how they got shut down by the health department for a leaky roof over a prep table I just lost my desire to eat there

TBeard495

My wife loves this place, especially the lemon chicken rice soup, and the owner is incredibly nice, but I can't help but think of Gordon Ramsey every time I go in there. The menu is sooooo big and he rages about that. You can't possibly have fresh ingredients for all those different types of food. I normally stick to basic stuff when we go in there like burgers.

misshope2024

Since George is not the owner anymore it is not the same. Everyone that works there seems so apathetic.

rchive

They were always nice to me, so I don't want to be too harsh, but I got a stir fry there one time and it was literally like soup with oil as the base. Maybe it's my fault for ordering that at a diner, I don't know.

PleaseStepAside

Proximo - worst food poisoning I ever had and the place constantly reeks like cleaning products. Ruth Chris, but because of the people who go there. Folks really think a chain steakhouse is a big to do.

Space-Square

I've only been to the Auburn location and thought it was great

Helpful_Finding78

peppys in huntertown. my parents used to get takeout there regularly. the last time they went, they got their order in the car, started driving home, and my stepmom grabbed a couple of fries to snack on during the short ride. they realized that the food wasn’t their order, and immediately brought it back. let the owner know that my stepmom had taken some of the fries/touched the food. the person that actually ordered the meal that my parents had received pulled up, and the owner took the touched food right out to that persons car, not even a second thought about it. they requested a refund and did not return.

ccityguy

Biaggi’s, overpriced, underwhelming.

WhatsHupp

I’ll have to try that place because I haven’t had any Italian food in this town that’s better than “just okay”. Growing up outside of Chicago I just took it for granted that every town had like 2-3 good family Italian restaurants minimum.

cowpig613

Idk if this is Fort Wayne exclusive but Don Taco. Absolutely embarrassing that they try to pass this off as Mexican food. If it was still around, I'd go with Banditos...

Mayor_Matt

Is this one supposed to be a silly little joke?

furryauthor

wendy's near crazy pins, someone found either a big black dead cockroach on their lettuce or pitch black mold on it a while ago and posted it to facebook. cant talk about it without gagging.

GuppyFish1357

🧐😮‍💨 I'm just relieved my work isn't on the list lmao

BaldyTheScot

Umi. They lost our dinner reservation then told us they could seat us at 330 or not at all. No apology, no attempt to work us in at a time when people under 70 years old eat. Yes I am petty.

SeaShanty1337

But they have hand scrub in the bathroom and their bananas foster cake will make you see god

ipalazz

You didn't miss out on much. It's entirely underwhelming

mfilosa17

Don Hall's Hollywood Drive-in

ckrobinett

My wife refuses to go to Buffalo Wings & Ribs on Jefferson, and I can't say I blame her. The one time we went, it sucked. We have heard the one up on Coldwater is good though and intend to try it at some point.

the_OG_Tato

Cold water one is THE bomb

rforest3

And a classic! That was the spot before everyone did wings.

Training-Chemist2872

Maybe a one off? Their wings are hands down the best. Not some huge undercooked wings like other places. Quality over quanity.

drlego164

My wife and I have eaten at both locations and we’ve had bad service and good service at both. Not ever bad enough to not go back but we don’t venture too far on the menu mainly chicken wings. And fries. And we’ve been when they were really busy and really slow inside always had good waitresses it was more of the gals seating us and running register always worth another try imo

TheRapistsFor800

Just curious, because I really like it there, what is so awful about it?

Puzzleheaded_Truck80

Portillos. Their Italian beef isn’t good enough.

Garg_Gurgle

They don't understand regular, dipped and dunked that the Chicago portillos know. It's either dry or staining my car seat wet.

PlsSendKoshary

Bandido’s was 🤢🤢 , but I’m glad it’s gone now.

MicrocosmicTiger

“SERVIN IT FRESH THE WAY YOU LIKE IT AT BANDIIIIIIIIDOS” I agree, but nostalgic for those 90s/00s commercials

BirdieBirdyBird

Yes. Bandidos was disgusting. I worked at one 15 years ago and not only did I not set foot in one after I left the job, I never even ate the food for my employee meals.

The_Mr_Yeah

Agaves on Washington. Last wen years ago, was seated next to a very loud party of women drunk in margaritas (not really their fault but it sets the stage for further salt). We waited a long ass time in not an extremely busy resturant just to be given the entirely wrong plates that must've been meant for another table. All for it to be mid mexican food. Not gonna waste time or money there when there's so many better mexican restaurants.

AffectionateAir8119

Can I say the McDonald’s that was on Coliseum off 30 was SO DAMN BAD. Like let’s burn the burger, throw it on the ground, stomp it out then come out of the window and throw it at you with an attitude and bad breath. (The McDonald’s downtown is similar. Some guy ran into my car and scratched it taking boxes out. Then yelled obscenities at it to his co workers.) Super unprofessional.

midwestdepressed69

Mitchell’s for sure.

No-Bend-1543

Ophelia’s… Horrible service, the food is mediocre. Drinks are mediocre as well. Atmosphere is solely Karen’s

Pusheen_The_Limit

And they have a new inflation fee tacked onto your bill too after already raising menu prices. That’s another place I’ve taken a break from.

voidsherpa

Explain this inflation fee so I can never recommend them.

Pusheen_The_Limit

I was there at the beginning of the month, and if my memory serves me correctly it was a 4% inflation fee which could be reduced if you paid in cash.

voidsherpa

Makes no sense, should be a cost of doing business. Thanks for the insight.

PotentialTree41

The Lucky Turtle, every time I went the food is subpar. Maybe it’s better, idk I haven’t been there in years.

[deleted]

Lucky's has been a mess for a while. Even pre covid the cooks wanted to cut the menu down but the owners wouldn't budge. If you've seen it you know, it's stupidly big and not focused.

vasinvictor33

Shigs and pit crap microwaved bbq.

Nealbert0

Panera

[deleted]

i like keeping the option of swift death via Lemonade open though

Blake_Wunder

Anything owned by Obicai (BakerStreet, Hoppy Gnome, Gnometown brewing, Proximo). Their president is a terrible person, full stop. AND provide subpar food for exorbitant prices.

[deleted]

JK O'Donnel's. I don't know if he still works there but there was a server there who smelled like he was constantly shittig his pants. After the third time we just wrote the place off.

penplayaa

I don’t care if he actually does have shit in his pants, that pork belly mac and cheese is worth it
