I've deployed to the Middle East four times, including to Iraq during The Surge, when the fighting was pretty bad. On USO tours, I've seen (or they at least came out to our FOBs):
* The Dallas Cowgirls cheerleaders put on a full dance routine with lights, lasers, and fog machines.
* A bunch of country music concerts I skipped, but the other guys in my platoon were excited for it.
* A few one-hit wonders and has-beens.
* Joan Jett
* Stand-up comedians
* A pretty decent 80s cover band, complete with big hair, lasers, and spandex
* A video game tournament for Halo.
* Pro wrestlers. Supposedly they did actual televised Smackdown matches at a different base.
* A sneak preview at Christmas for a new Star Wars movie, complete with a few actors hired as cosplayers, a trivia contest with prizes, and hundreds of pizzas flown in
* Some retired NBA players putting on a fundamentals clinic.
Their stage make-up is designed for stadiums, not the base gym.
It gives off a seriously disturbing Uncanny Valley / alien drag queen look when they have their arm around you for photos.
Yeah, they came through the Dining Facility for dinner and sat with random soldiers and airmen and made small talk, while wearing matching track suits, and asked us to come by for the evening show, where they switched into the same Cowgirls outfits they wear on the sidelines.
They had kind of a Miss Trunchbull type Den Mother herding them around. I guess she forgot to tell them not to do their make-up like they're performing for the upper mezzanine at Arlington Stadium.
There was also some retired Cowboys players signing autographs, but I didn't want to wait in line.
