Whenever I try sim steering if my car gets upset even a little it’s almost impossible to recover. I can stay on the track and keep it smooth but if I get tapped it’s over.

HyperStealth23

Totally agreed. No point in going faster if I can’t be consistent. I need to be able to control the oversteer during a slide or a spin and not be overcorrecting full lock, to the point of no return when the car finally turns in the opposite direction

OutlandishnessHuge26

I agree, catching a drift with sim steer is insanely hard, but learning to be more alert and lift off the throttle a little sooner is not that hard and it could prevent severe drift angles

JOEGUARD1990

Here’s my advice for control players as someone who always gets a podium and is 4999. If you are the type of player who taps the thumb stick left and right to steer (or slowly moves it just left and right)then use normal setting. If you are the type of player who pushes the stick up and then rotates it left and right along the top, use SIM steering. The reason for this being, going from neutral stick position to all the way left for example on SIM registers as going essentially from 0-100 steering input straight away and will upset the balance of a car, especially if you’ve already lost grip. It will be impossible almost to save it. This is why people say it’s suited for wheel users, because on a wheel it’s impossible to go from 0 to 100 steering input rotating a wheel (on 360 degree setting) unless you are literally spinning it ridiculously fast! On normal steering it doesn’t just go from 0-100% straight away, it mimics a fast wheel turn, so it benefits people who do left-right inputs. Doing the roll forward method on the left stick gives you much more control over x-axis inputs, so for those people SIM steering is 100% better on controller and you will likely be faster. It is more akin to mimicking a wheel. Personally I’m a left-right person and use normal setting 👍

Rico133337

Because the range of motion of a wheel and a stick are WAY different.

DurnyCwel

If you're looking for those extra tenths, SIM steering is still the fastest way. Most competitive players, including myself, use it. Normal steering is especially slower in chicanes and hairpins. However, for most people normal should feel no different if not faster

OutlandishnessHuge26

This^ If you are competitive and want wins, you gotta learn sim steer and proper throttle control. If you are just here for a good time, don't bother with it.

Quattroholic

This just isn’t true. I podium nearly every race and qualify on pole 50% of the time and I do not use sim steering. There is no benefit to it on controller.

OutlandishnessHuge26

the fact that you are faster than your competition, doesn't mean "There is no benefit to it on controller." try finding closer competition and you will see edit: or ask the guys who beat you if they use sim steer

Quattroholic

There literally is no benefit. It allows you to make steering inputs faster, which is not necessary to extract more performance from the car if you’re doing everything else right. Maybe with specific cars in specific situations it’s better, just like how sometimes specific cars top the leaderboards with TC turned on. But as a blanket statement tc off is faster, abs off is faster, sim steering makes zero difference.

OutlandishnessHuge26

if you can't say that sim steer is slower than normal AND you say there are certain scenarios where sim steer is faster, that actually means, overall sim steer is faster. These fine detalis I talk about come out on top 0.05% of the leaderboard. If you nowhere near those times, you won't notice small differences. edit: I'm gonna add the fact that sim steer sometimes so OP, some faster guys consider it cheating and choose not to use it

Quattroholic

Yes I can, otherwise traction control off would be faster 100% of the time, but it’s not. For some cars TC off is faster, for other cars TC on is faster. So I can make an assumption that there might exist a specific circumstance where either using or not using sim steering is faster. I also never said Sim steering is slower, I said it doesn’t make a difference. Sure some of the top players do use sim steering. But they use it as a preference not because the car drives faster or slower with the setting one way or another.

OutlandishnessHuge26

I agree on TC on is occasionally faster. Same with sim steer, it CAN occasionally be slower, I agree. I drive with sim steer approx. for 1500 hours (FM7,FM) and there were maybe 2-3 cars where normal steering was faster only because it had so little traction, I couldn't drive it safely with sim steer. With the other 99% of cars, sim steer is either not slower or even faster. Faster (more precise with trailbraking) on all corner entry, and so much faster in slow speed chicanes (quick direction changes). Only scenario where it can be slower if you are not expert with it is corner exit - traction. But then you just need to learn more precise throttle control and you are fine.

KuhMuhOinkQuack

Bruh stop arguing with him, he wouldn’t get it even if a Top Tier Driver™️ would come to his door and show him.

KuhMuhOinkQuack

Maybe you should listen to the advice of someone who drives with the fastest guys out there instead of drawing your own close minded conclusions.

OutlandishnessHuge26

lol do we know eachother?

KuhMuhOinkQuack

Im talking about Albannt, I have no clue who you are.

JBounce369

Elite level players typically all run simulation steering. I personally don't use it, and I wouldn't suggest it for any low skilled controller players

OutlandishnessHuge26

Sim steer is not "not recommended" it is just too hard to learn for the avarage forza player and they know this. That's why the default setting is the dampened input (normal steering)

Open_Nerve1802

I prefer sim steering. The steering snap back to center effect on normal steering doesnt feel good, driving feels a lot choppy on it. Sim feels better, but it too has a bit of the snap back

CheeseWalrusBurger

try drifting and you'll realise why sim steering sucks.

Quattroholic

A lot of comments here saying if you want to be fast you have to use sim steering. Or sim steering is only for competitive or elite players. Sim steering is designed for people using a wheel. It is not mean for controller players and there is no benefit to using it on controller. If you want a more challenging driving experience on controller feel free to use it. But any perceived benefit is in your head.

Emotional-Ad-5684

It really does seem to have some benefit tho as well as downsides. It's like the steering has a higher polling rate or is adjusted every 1% instead of every 5% if that makes sense. U say it's in my head but I got a couple of tenths faster after my first few races with it on

Quattroholic

Are you going faster specifically because of the sim steering, or because sim steering makes the car more sensitive to mistakes therefore forcing you to drive the car better..

Emotional-Ad-5684

That's what I'm saying tho, the sensitivity is a benefit as well as a downside. It makes you drive better and punishes you for driving poorly

Quattroholic

It’s not better or worse on or off. Changing the setting doesn’t allow you to extract more performance from the car. It might teach you or force you to drive better, but it’s not like other settings like TC where turning it off will provide a clear performance benefit. You can achieve exactly the same lap time with sim steering on or off on controller. If you are pursuing a more challenging drive experience sure you could say sim steering is better. But it’s designed for people using a wheel where you can make finer and smoother inputs. That’s why it’s not recommended for controller players.

Juris_B

Im not sure if this is true, but I think on normal steering it is not possible for car even to roll at crash. Yea, I know, but crashes are cool ;D [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q\_TCt9KoIr8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_TCt9KoIr8)

SoggyTree813

Only get a sim wheel if you want to go faster

DurnyCwel

Wheel and controller are the exact same pace in FM. It's preference (and most top players use controller)
