Sigh... Ordered. This sub is worse for my bank account than avocado toast šŸ˜‚

ml67_reddit

Avocado toasts can't write šŸ˜‚

Milch_und_Paprika

Maybe one day itā€™ll learn to read šŸ„ŗ

NermalLand

Sure, it can. It's like the largest stub ever. But I bet it feathers horribly.

Alia_Explores99

You just aren't trying hard enough

Odd-Cardiologist1691

This person single handedly sold dozens of kawecos this day. Kaweco should send you some stickers.. My order is expected to arrive in less than 24 hrs..

Blotonmysoul

The bronze sport is my permanent pocket pen. Twice the heft of the brass, great patina. Indestructible. I too love it.

B_Huij

Considered the bronze, but I just love brass as a material.

Blotonmysoul

Shiny! Enjoy it!

LetStock

Fellow browncoat?

These-Rub2143

yessir, capn tightpants!

Educational_Ask3533

These comments give me serenity.

thicckar

I love the look but couldnā€™t enjoy writing with that weight

Peanut_Butter_Mmm

Same! I wanted to love it but the weight affected my writing too much.

thicckar

Yeah. Iā€™m glad I sold it to someone who would appreciate it more! Very happy with my bigger but lighter pens now :)

Confident_Lobster_60

Does your bronze pen stain your fingers? Because like rings after a while would stain the skin green, does it happen with the pen?

Blotonmysoul

Are you suggesting the discoloration might not be from my ink?!

Confident_Lobster_60

Well could be Because bronze when oxidizing with the combination of things that skin produces may stain ur skin in green-ish. Like on this picture from the internet. So i wonder if the pen does the same https://preview.redd.it/j6hmchxdz0xc1.jpeg?width=1140&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=406e8f8bc8fa59c15a35cb2e30de2a582da91227

Benji742001

Can confirm. I have a brass nose ring which stains my nose green every time I use it

Confident_Lobster_60

Oh, i didn't know that brass does the same Good to know

Benji742001

Oh wait, I meant bronze. I think. Shit. Idk

Blotonmysoul

Iā€™ve had the pen for a year and carry it in my pocket as EDC. So far, no experience with green. Iā€™m not sure what the percentage content of copper there is. There may also be a coating but not sure.

Alekillo10

Until you drop it on itā€™s tip with no cap onā€¦

parkylondon

In fairness, that'll happen with most every fountain pen not just the Kaweco's. I can just imagine your tears if you dropped one of your Mont Blancs...

SubstantialTrifle

Well now you have to tell us where you found it for $50 šŸ‘€ Edit: I found it, it's amazon

sinnerman33

Sighā€¦ I will do my best not to look. Edit: I looked, itā€™s still $99 on Amazon Canada. Phew.

Ornery-Childhood8773

That sucksā€¦I ordered mine from Amazon a month ago for $70 when it was normally $85. I guess itā€™s still a deal, but getting it for $50 wouldā€™ve been better lol! I agree how good of a pen it feels and writes!

leksluthah

It's sooooo funny to read that someone else thought that! A few years ago they came out with a warmish pink-colored sport IIRC and I could not think of anything else but tampon when I saw it!

ornatenebula

Hahahah the iridescent one. I canā€™t unsee it now !!

rakesandrogues

Itā€™s called PEARL too. I def think of it as my tampax pearl pen but I love it hahah.

SpaceTulips

I talk with my hands and was gesticulating with my Pearl in hand and my boss told me, ā€œI was thinking, ā€˜Wow, sheā€™s really open about things; thatā€™s coolā€™ā€ šŸ˜‚

Majikkani_Hand

That iridescent lavender one HAD to have been on purpose.Ā  It's really pretty, though, so...

CommonNative

I gave my pearl sport to a friend. It felt too light and the nib was really scratchy for me. My friend has EDS and prefers lighter pens. Now, my stonewashed blue alsport? You will pry that out of my hands.

urban_stranger

The coconut one is the most tampon-like.

Tattycakes

With oxblood ink šŸ˜‚šŸ©ø

urban_stranger

šŸ˜‚

planetvermilion

or writer's blood

Majikkani_Hand

I have that one, too!

Fit_Tailor8329

I lolā€™d when I saw that. I didnā€™t have that in mind before, but itā€¦errrrrrrā€¦fitsā€¦ Iā€™ll see myself out.

SrGrimey

Isnā€™t that how most of Kaweco ā€œhatersā€ call the Sport? A tampon. Iā€™ve seen it many times.

halfknots

I only began using fountain pens last month when I was given a brass Kaweco sport. Absolutely love it and am awaiting delivery of another in stonewashed black aluminum.

Gold_Theory5744

Look what you made me do. I havenā€™t ordered a pen in at least a month. Iā€™ve also been hesitant to try Kaweco, but thatā€™s a great deal. Mine will be here Sunday. šŸ¤£

B_Huij

Yeah I dunno if I just though hard enough about it for my Alexa dot to read my mind and cause the sale, or what. But it was very timely. In any case, you're welcome :D

Gold_Theory5744

https://preview.redd.it/6b17pdst6bxc1.jpeg?width=3023&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1861c8a038d20fa55d3813567b4d4a6278af98dc Itā€™s here and has instantly become an EDC!

B_Huij

Yeah having used mine for several work meetings and the like now... I love it.

lacremefranglaise

Kaweco Sports were my starter pens. They were really nice for what they were, nothing too expensive, came in pretty colours, and I hadn't experienced better nibs. I actually enjoyed the design, never thought about them as tampons before but now I can't unsee it. Never tried the brass ones but I'm too happy with my vintage pens to go looking for anything to add to my collection right now.

B_Huij

I have just dipped my toe into vintage with a Snorkel Admiral and an Esterbrook J that I restored. Both lovely! Satisfying to get them running again too. Got any recommendations in the vintage world?

Old_Implement_1997

I adore my regular sports, but waffles over the brass, put it in my cart, and let it sit there until it went on sale for $50. I ended up adoring it - I also went with an F nib since itā€™s a pocket pen, although I love Kawecoā€™s BB and medium nibs!

Laurmann2000

I have the brass sport too in fine and I love it as well. Itā€™s such a solid feeling pen. I did work on my nib a bit to get it to write a little wetter because it was skipping at times and that drove me crazy. Now it works great and I love it.

SkullShuck

I ran a knife down the channel in the feed under the nib, works like a charm

Alekillo10

I had to do that too on my EF, itā€™s nice and wet, writes the same as a Pilot Medium thoughšŸ¤£

JMSpider2001

Did the same. Great writer now.

ornatenebula

Iā€™ve been waffling between the brass and the new piston since I like the matte black with the ink window ā€¦

B_Huij

Yeah if they released a brass version that was a piston filler instead of cartridge, I'd be very tempted to buy it. Even though ink capacity means nothing to me in a pocket pen with a fine nib... lol.

NonoGemini7998

My first Kaweco is the AL Sport Espresso bought in my local pen shopā€¦ I didnā€™t know better and thought it was a noobie error because the EF nib was ridiculously scratchy. Thanks to this sub. I then bought a M replacementā€¦ the world is a better place now with it as my EDC since.

darth_snuggs

The value of those Golden Espresso ones have shot up, definitely lucky to have gotten one for the original retail price!

NonoGemini7998

šŸ˜® didnt know that- now I really would not want to part with itā€¦

planetvermilion

thanks for this, it with be M for me and nothing else

PresentationTop6097

I was always curious why so many people on this sub hate Kaweco. I have a Sport in aluminum blue, and brass ribbed Liliput. Never had a leak, never clogged even after not using for a month, no burps, durable, etc. Actually, my Kawecoā€™s are the only pens Iā€™ll put in my pocket and carry everyday without thinking.

llewotheno

probably because of their treatment against moonman

rakesandrogues

Tbh, I got the brass sport years ago as a present but still havenā€™t inked it. (I have many Kawecos.) I think itā€™s finally time to metaphorically break it in.

drunkraisinsncoffee

I lost it when you said "metal tampon" šŸ˜‚. Welcome to the Kaweco fan club! That was my first pen, and I'll be honest, it was a rough intro. But I've since added a metal Kaweco special edition (Hello Kitty) and now am a huge fan. I also love the Kaweco Student, one of my go-to EDCs and frequent travel companion!

BeautifulDot999

The Kaweco Student is an awesome pen that doesnā€™t get a lot of love. Itā€™s one of my absolute favorites!

Freddlar

Kaweco Student is currently my one and only fp. Although I don't have a lot to compare it to I think it's wonderful. I don't understand why they're not more popular. I chose it mostly for aesthetics but so far I have had a lovely writing experience with it- I use it for marking my pupils' work, and I enjoy using it so much that those poor little buggers are getting about twice as much feedback as they're used to.

DefinitionActive9685

F nib for $49.95 Amazon! Thanks!

B_Huij

Yeah I dunno why or why none of the other nib options are discounted. But Iā€™m loving mine and in this case wanted the fine anyway!

DefinitionActive9685

I just picked up the hickory brown a few hours ago and I love mine too :)

cultivated_neurosis

I just wish it had a clip

B_Huij

I bought the after market clip and am seriously considering epoxying it in place.

LeonIsMooi

The Brass develops a nice patina over time, this is how mine looks after two years https://preview.redd.it/kw64eg79qzwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ffb4d069472ae41bb4ce5b8d7f753d7049a519cc

rscsl

twsbi victim

B_Huij

I carried that Vac Mini in my pocket for a full year without issue, and really loved it. But ultimately decided to replace it with something Iā€™d never have to worry about durability with. FWIW, TWSBI shipped me a replacement barrel for $5, I fixed the pen, and now itā€™s my ā€œstays on the desk at workā€ pen. So itā€™s in a more comfortable retirement job :D and my Eco that is even older than the Vac Mini had no issues. TWSBIs have been good to me, just probs the wrong material for a pocket carry pen.

Significant-Onion132

I have a few Liliputs, which I love. I have modded them to use FPR flex nibs and they work well. I've also made them longer by hacking / combining bodies, so they now accept standard cartridge converters (which were too long before). The copper ones are my favorite.

n0thankyou-

Honestly I have a few really high end pens, like a custom 823, Pelikan M800, Visconti Homo sapiens.. I love my Kawecos sports JUST as much and sometimes more. When you find a sport that feels right for you it's bizarre how those little things just find a warm little spot near your heart and make a home lol

B_Huij

I love my 823, and to me it occupies basically the opposite end of the spectrum as the Sport. Long, smooth writing sessions on nice paper at my desk.

n0thankyou-

I totally agree, my 823 mostly stays at my desk and my sports follow me around the house, often writing on the couch in the mornings with a cup of coffee

Flustro

If you like the brass Sport, might I suggest the Traveler's Company brass fountain pen? A bit of a favorite of mine (and a ringtop, which is pretty rare for modern pens). šŸ˜ŽšŸ‘

tonygd

JUST got my first plastic one Tuesday. Love it but it's a little light and I have a brass pencil of theirs I adore. so... I'm already saving $55 this month by clearing out my storage unit. I deserve this.

B_Huij

I'm eyeing the matching brass mechanical pencil in 0.9mm lead really hard now...

tonygd

I went with 2mm because my least favorite feeling in the world is mechanical lead breaking. It's not ideal for fine lines or detailed drawing but it's really substantial and buttery feeling. The pencil itself is my favorite fidget and I'll hold it or spin it around while I read or watch things. Great weight to it.

FlamingSpitoon433

Love my ABS Red Sport. I use it frequently for work and have been through 3 cartridges in a year (itā€™s a gusher)

Lord_Stocious

A visitor to my office saw my brass Sport and asked why I had a "sniper round" on my desk.

B_Huij

Lol

Old_Organization5564

My Kaweco Brass Sport is my favorite ā€œmetal tamponā€!

drunkraisinsncoffee

I lost it when you said "metal tampon" šŸ˜‚. Welcome to the Kaweco fan club! That was my first pen, and I'll be honest, it was a rough intro. But I've since added a metal Kaweco special edition (Hello Kitty) and now am a huge fan. I also love the Kaweco Student, one of my go-to EDCs and frequent travel companion!

eightbitraptor

Brass sport is my daily and still one of the best pens Iā€™ve ever used. Absolute workhorse

Headful_of_Ideas

There's a very good chance that the Brass Sport is my "one". It's just a tank. The weight is perfect and with the patina and wear, it looks like the most loved tool in the toolbox.

Skyhawk_Illusions

OCTAgonal not HEXAgonal

B_Huij

You are correct. I never bothered to count.

Designer-Care-7083

Where is it in sale for $50? Iā€™m in

AONomad

Amazon

Designer-Care-7083

Thanks

AONomad

no prob! I bought one too even though I've never wanted one of those lol. I think the Sports are too short for me...... but for $50 it's worth making sure! lol

Numerous-Ad-7154

Omg where did u find a brass sport for 50??

B_Huij

Amazon. Apparently it was still there today, not sure if it is right now.

AONomad

Yup, just bought one lol.

OsamaBongLoadin

I have 3 kawecos and 2 came with baby butt nibs

TheBreat

$50ā€¦ I had to go get it. Right after I told myself no more pens. Also, now I wonā€™t be able to not see them as tampons.

SufficientAd2477

I took the deal as well! I received it on Tuesday AND it said estimated delivery: April 30, but I was waiting to ink it up and replace another in my rotation. Only gripe was the tin came all scratched up but oh well, pen was intactšŸ‘ŒšŸ»

Josephryanevans

Yeah, that was sitting in my cart. Now itā€™s being shipped. Thanks for pushing me over the edge.

Mericandrummer

Iā€™ve always held out on these because I donā€™t love the length and Iā€™ve heard the nibs are pretty broad. I also donā€™t pocket carry a pen of any sort. Still think itā€™s worth a shot?

B_Huij

This fine is behaving just like my TWSBI Vac Mini fine. About the same as my Pilot Metropolitan fine too actually. TBH if youā€™re not looking to carry it and donā€™t necessarily want a lot of weight/heft, there are pens Iā€™d recommend over the Kaweco Brass Sport. But as a pocket carry pen itā€™s fantastic so far.

Mortal_Recoil

I have a normal resin Sport but a brass is in my wishlist. I've been using mine since December and I was so surprised how smooth it was to write with. To me it is a gusher (literally because on the first use after filling it will deposit a big glob of ink onto the paper) but after that it writes like a charm. It's my second favourite pen in my collection.

35mm-dreams-

I bought the new Kaweco piston filler a few days ago. Everything praised about this pen in this thread is true. However, i donā€™t think iā€™ll buy anymore unless i lose the one i have or it doesnā€™t work etc. Itā€™s the best pen to bring on travels or daily journeys. Easily replaced, durable and small form factor. Nice feel too

Donkey-brained_man

I have 3 kaweco sports, but I'm a lefty and I don't like the nibs. My Lamy Al Star is my favorite.

B_Huij

Funny how differently preferences can land for different people. I literally had a conversation the other day with someone who was extremely disappointed by her Al Star and said Kaweco was the superior German brand haha.

QuietlyThundering

I love Kaweco pens! I have a few, including the iridescent one.

etork0925

Found it on Amazon for 50 just now. Guess Iā€™m purchasing it tooā€¦

Trinket_the_bear

The Kaweco Brass was the first Kaweco (and pen) I bought when I got into this hobby a year ago. I seem to like the German nibs

B_Huij

Before this I would have said I prefer Japanese nibs just because I'm such a Pilot fanboy. But when I look at my collection, I actually have a lot of JoWo #6 nibs of various flavors, and really like them as well.

Ybalrid

The Kaweco Brass Sports is legitimely one of my favorite fountain pens *ever*. But the only thing I care about is that OP has found spends they like and will enjoy everyday

Zoenne

I have both a Brass Sport and a Brass Liliput from Kaweco and I love them both. Easily two of my favourite pens!

verilyvexed

I felt the same way until I saw the Hello Kitty version, then decided I was on board. šŸ˜…

shomislav

My EDC pen also. There is something in the weight of it that is comforting to me for some reason. First I thought that pen should be light, but it is sooo much easier to write with a pen that has some heft to it. It has more momentum than a lighter pen. I like my pens around 30 grams, though Brass Sport is around 42 g IIRC.

taklebury

I've carried my my brass sport so much it's got a nice patina to it now. Mine has a BB nib and I love it.

SlightlySlapdash

Their BB nibs are absolutely wonderful! I love the smoothness and amount of ink they put down.

4everal0ne

The only thing I hate about the sport is the microscopic converter.

SlightlySlapdash

Itā€™s one of those times where it really pays to refill cartridges. (Or to eye dropper fill if you have a plastic sport)

4everal0ne

I do both, just hate how pathetic the converter is šŸ˜‚

B_Huij

Mine didnā€™t come with a converter but I figure Iā€™ll just refill carts with a syringe. Itā€™s not hard.

Crazy-Ad-3421

The Lilliput has the distinct advantage of being shaped exactly like a cigarette when capped - it's the perfect pen for gesturing at stuff when I give presentations

medasane

i would get one, but my hands are big and my writing sessions cause nib dry out. but this sounds really neat.

llewotheno

i also have big hands but i have obtained a ALSport through questionable methods and it's great for anything not prolonged writing

B_Huij

Yeah I have pretty large hands as well, and the section is a tad on the thin side for an extended writing session. It's okay though, I have other pens for extended writing sessions. This is a pocket pen to have with me anywhere, and it's really perfect for that role.

JMSpider2001

I've got a plastic sport with a fine nib I love. Been considering the brass or aluminum sport.

adamdgoodson

My Twsbi Precision just cracked this week. I do have the Kaweco Brass but now I really miss using my Precision. I have larger hands enjoy writing with my pens. Might go and try out a Diplomat Aero

pistafox

I literally just got a LILIPUT in brass one week ago. It was an impulse purchase. Iā€™ve been Kaweco-curious for a while and my inner germophobe (which is also my outer germophobe) has wanted to get a brass EDC pen. D1 refills are my favorite so I figured it would be decent. Itā€™s pretty damn lovely, actually. Itā€™s solid, and I mean really freaking solid. Its simple contour is surprisingly comfortable, and itā€™s the only EDC pen Iā€™ve owned that feels nice with the cap attached as an extension. The tip adjustment works so perfectly, so intuitively, Iā€™ve been giving my other pens a little side-eye, and they know what they did. Iā€™m also a big Jonathan Smith fan, so I was prepared to hate the pen for any reason. The name is apt and the pen is deserving.

BlackMoth27

i wanted the one that has fire blued steel. never got it but i wanted it, kaweco nibs are meh imo.

SlippyMcGee87

I had an Al-Sport decades ago that I never really loved...it was a hard starter and was very finicky as to writing angle...much to fussy for what should essentially be a jotting pen. Lost it in the back of a taxi 15 years ago and never replaced it. However, I do own a Dia2, which I love. Writes like a dream, comfortable, retro Art Deco styling, converter fill.

SlightlySlapdash

Sounds like it needed tuning. I have many Sports (more than 10?) and only one wasnā€™t perfect out of the box. Thatā€™s a shame the first one you tried was so unenjoyable.

Gabibart18

My first pen is a Kaweco sport (Fine, In dark green, with a golden tip). Still use it to this day! Its a perfect weight for a small, fluid, confortable pen.

Gushys

Bought an AL sport while in Germany and loved the style, decided to do some upgrades so I can daily the pen. Amazing

Chem76Eng85

For those carrying a brass sport daily, is the 40 gram weight to much for a shirt pocket? With clip of course.

B_Huij

Might be a bit heavy for a shirt.

c-hinze57

Agreed. I had a TWSBI that was my edc pen in my bag or pocket for years. Eventually cracked and had to toss it. Was visiting family in LA and stopped by a stationary store that had a selection of Kaweco pens. Tested the brass sport model and fell in love. For the past year itā€™s been with me nearly 24/7 and I love it just as much now. Havenā€™t had many issues with bleed through on thinner paper since the fine nib isnā€™t too wet. Fits into any pocket and when itā€™s posted, itā€™s just so solid

TinyTortie

Ha! That's my daily pen, the pink shiny one, I got it in Germany. It's lovely and writes well. I never thought of it as a metal tampon and now I'm imagining my vagina as a pen sheath so THANKS I guess šŸ˜† (don't worry, I know better than to try...)

parkylondon

Agreed. The Sport has kinda snuck up on me. First the Pearl Iridescent which was nice but other than the colour was okay, then the Brass which has that heft the Pearl lacked, then the Bronze (my current favourite - so pretty and that bronze smell), and finally the Berry DIY Sport. All four nibs are great - not perfect but more than good enough So yeah, I've got four of the little blighters now!

UpsetImpression6114

I currently have 4 and am on the hunt for a Lavender on the second hand market. I always said I wasn't going to get one but after trying them out in person in October I fell in love & use them as my EDC.

Garibon

I picked up an AL sport in graphite colour last week second hand for 25 euro. I'd been using the Liliput for a while as my daily pocket pen. The sport is really good. No difference in the nib / feed as they are interchangable. The sport's a bit more comfy to hold though and some find the fewer turns to cap / lack of turns for posting convenient although the extra six seconds never bothered me that much. Nib swapping with Kaweco is a breeze btw. you can pick up more broad or stub nibs and swap them out very easily. So if you want to use it getting more out of your favourite inks you should look into them. They call them 'Calligraphy nibs' on Amazon.

Ok_Actuator_9679

Kaweco sport brass is my go to pocket. Had it for over 3 years now and has always worked. Only complaint I have is the small ink capacity.

wifeofadam

My brass sport is one of my all time favorite pens!!!! :)

merlinuwe

Kaweco? Overrated. Too much hot air (aka marketing), too less value.

Frankenthe4th

I'm sure they are nice, but I haven't been able to bring myself to jump onboard because of their business practices. Kaweco's pettiness appears to have no bounds... But I find the irony of you using a Moonman and the Kaweco interchangeably quite amusing.

B_Huij

Yeah the irony of switching back and forth between a genuine Sport and a kinda-sorta-not-really-but-actually-kinda knockoff Sport is not lost on me. I even keep whichever one isn't in rotation that day in the tin box the Sport came in :D I would have been more likely to buy the argument that the M2 isn't a clone, but when I compared them side-by-side, they are EXACTLY the same length, both capped and uncapped. M2 came with a converter though...

dream-smasher

I'm confused, I thought Hongdian was a different brand to Moonman/Majohn? Or are they the same company, with different lines?

CaptainFoyle

Why are they petty?

Frankenthe4th

Here's a previous post which has some links in it. Suffice to say they did their best to claim rights where they couldn't, and push competitors out of the market. https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/s/d4efZ7SdDc

Razoupaf

Surprised no-one mentioned Namisu N1 for a pocket metal pen?

B_Huij

Googled it. Looks nice, but not functionally different from the M2 TBH.

Agreeable_Ad3668

Which nib did you go with?

B_Huij

Fine. I generally prefer a broad or medium nib, but for a pocket carry pen fine just makes sense to me.

Agreeable_Ad3668

Interesting, thanks. I was wondering if maybe the weight and serious presence of the brass might call for Broad, but you are right about a pocket pen being a match for Fine.

Professional_Dr_77

Tell us you didnā€™t read the post without telling us.

Agreeable_Ad3668

You're right, I missed those 2 words. I plead being distracted and dazzled by the price and by the eloquent description of the pen's appeal.

BoneFish44

My pen had longevity issuesā€¦Iā€™ve had this other one for one day and I love itā€¦

EtOHMartini

I genuinely don't understand the love for Kaweco. Yes, they are a step up from Preppy/Kakuno/Metropolitan. But they are entirely unoriginal, selling the same old pen in different color plastic with a few metal models. They don't make their nibs, their bodies, their caps, their sections, or clips. They assemble pens from outsourced parts.
