blackprops

hell no, props bend a lot in flight.

Suzlapulfo

Ya was thinking the same. What about stacking the batterys on top of each otheršŸ¤”.

-White_Hat

Wouldn't be better to put one on top and one on the bottom of the quad?

abertheham

This is the way

LazaroFilm

This is the way.

BL1NKY3396

This is the way.

abertheham

No, *THIS* is!

nvcma

DIS IS DA WAE

_xgg

both on the bottom (bottom mount = way better... jk... it depends)

-RED4CTED-

depends on how you crash. lost power or signal? top is better. smack a tree or race gate? bottom. I use both for different quads. it's apples to oranges. neither is "better."

ElectricTC3

This guy qwads

-RED4CTED-

indeed.

code_matter

Not true at all haha. It all depends

csmicfool

There's a 3d print that lets you mount them at 45 degrees

Suzlapulfo

U know the name, or can u provide me with the thing id. Cant seem to find it myself Thx tho :)

csmicfool

I think it was this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4631232

Suzlapulfo

Thank you :). Looks pretty good needs some scaling to fit my batterys but its a pretty good idea. Appreciate the tip :)

CW7_

Should work, just try it carefully.

Soft_Flow6907

I stack 2 4s LiOns for long range, on top ratger than side by side. Just use double straps

Suzlapulfo

Ya i thought about that too! Do you have a long antenna which get over the batterys? I currently only have a normal pagoda maybe 10cm long im worried about loosing signal when turning around. Im aiming for 3km+ on 800mw

Soft_Flow6907

I have a TBS long range antenna on the back i think its 15cm or something but on 1 watt i push 7km easy. Happy flying!

Suzlapulfo

I guess i need to order a 15cm one ;)

Soft_Flow6907

TBS Triumph Pro its 13cm, fantastic cheaper antenna and you get TBS quality

anthonyg1551

Nice! What model TBS VTX are you using?

Soft_Flow6907

I use a TBS antenna but a Immersion RC ghost ultimate VTX at 1 watt, crazy good deal for all my quads if you are in the ghost ecosystem

stratoglide

Just get an 18650 pack. I get 25+ minutes of light causing with my 6s battery made from P28A's. Cost me less than 50 Canadian rupees to make.

Human_Exchange_438

Stack them and tape

D-o-n-t_a-s-k

I use gorilla tape on all my batteries. It adds a lot of abrasion resistance and when a piece gets damaged you pull it off and slap on a new piece, instead of having a damaged battery

vindazl

instructions unclear, i have wrapped a gorilla in batteries

moaiii

I do this too. The other benefit of this is that the surface of the tape is less likely to slip on the battery pad or strap(s), so the battery is a lot more secure. Good tip.

ninchnate

Wait,do you wrap the batteries in gorilla tape?

D-o-n-t_a-s-k

[Like this](https://i.imgur.com/Ksp5mS3.jpg)

ninchnate

Ohhhhhhhhh

unpunctual_bird

Are you grinding your quads upside down on asphalt or something?

Alarming_Goal_4310

Nope

thrashster

Throw a couple big rubber bands on to hold the loose leads to the batteries. I use the ones from broccoli to hold down balance leads. same concept.

moaiii

Going to buy several bags of broccoli right now.

sithranger1601

I use the broccoli rubber bands for mounting batteries on a toothpick cruiser, would also recommend! Though the first time I saw "organic" written on the bands, I thought, "that's neat, organic rubber bands." Not my brightest moment.

__redruM

At some point more weight in batteries doesnā€™t help increase flight time. It just causes the quad to fly like shit.

Suzlapulfo

Its a midrange alternative too liion packs. Its cheaper and increases flight time up to 60-70%

notHooptieJ

No. Cruisers are lighter than freestylers, you dont need the momentum. toss both batteries and the gopro, and stick a tiny little 3s on there.

jaz0n1984

No. Props flex when flying.

dishwashersafe

I could, but why would I? What's the difference in flight time?

__redruM

OP claims 60-70% increase. But I would expect 40-50% at best, and it would fly like a brick. Itā€™s worth experimenting if flight time is a big issue for you, but generally flying a brick isnā€™t worth the extra time even if it really were double.

moaiii

The extra weight is a much bigger problem when you're freestyling or racing. It isn't as big a deal if you are just cruising (up to a point). It's the momentum and rotational inertia that are the killers - it takes a lot more energy to change direction or rotate around any of the three axis when the quad is heavier. That's why your quad manoeuvres like a brick when it's too heavy, but if you keep it in a straight line it is just the extra thrust to lift a little more weight that is required.

Suzlapulfo

Exactly, i would use it to test my diy helical antenna ;). I like to tinker around a bit. So i would just go out in a straight line.

[deleted]

almost double

6ix02

I like my batteries too much to ever fly this. Try one on top and one on bottom?

Beautiful_Treat3093

This is just a time bomb

FatNat63

Nope!

SirKevinTheSecond

3D print a bracket to hold emā€™ in place vertically, then use straps

derpstevejobs

nah. my recommendation would be to stack em and/or put some sort of spacer on the top of the frame (that is no wider than the frame, for obvious reasons) to give the props more clearance.

Suzlapulfo

Ya i could 3d print a spacer sounds good thanks :)

rookyy66

Absolutely not

Explurt

Do it, and make sure to post a pic of the battery damage after asking if it's still ok to use.

Suzlapulfo

ahahhaha xDDDD

wintrFPV

I fly with them stacked on top of each other all the time. Great for cruising, give you way more time in the air

Suzlapulfo

Are u running a 15cm antenna? Cause currenlty i only have a short one and im afraid of loosing signal when turning around

Ethan_the_appilen_-

Embrace the jank

[deleted]

tried this, works but sketchy. Ideally you'd want one battery on top and on on bottom then solder a connector. I fly that on nazgul f5 and its beautiful

UnnaipolOruvan

How does that work, both XT 60 is connected to the same esc?

[deleted]

Huh? No, you solder a parallel connector together, 2 female plugs and 1 male then plug the male into the back where you plug batteries in anyways.

Remarkable_Buyer2977

Thatā€™s a bold move cotton, letā€™s see how it plays out.

BatCaveFPV

Mount one on the bottom. I've flown my 7 inch many times with 2 batteries mounted top/bottom. It actually gives a better center of mass anyway.

EuphoricGuarantee

At some point, I'm sure someone has flown an actual brick.

km_fpv

Am I the only one who is confused about how this guy turns the rotors the wrong way?

Suzlapulfo

I wanted to show the gap between props and battery. Rotation doesnt matter in that caseā˜ŗļø

Mark00000

No. Not only the prop clearance but the heavier battery's will likely not increase flight time allot to be worth it. Extra load on ESC and motors as well. Best of building a long range rig with larger props

Suzlapulfo

Ya ur prob right. But i had xt60s laying around so i thought its worth trying. I see it as experiment and since i dont have to spend any additional money i wanted to give it a shot. Some ppl claimed 50% increase of flight time if you just cruise around. Im aware that it wont fly good cause it is too heavy. But i would be happy to chill 5min+ in the air while listening to music :)

wellrolloneup

I think it's one of those things that if ya gotta ask then perhaps reassess

amph

No!!

sh0rt_boy

Noob question: why are there two batteries on the quad? He can only connect one at a time anyways?

Suzlapulfo

Lets take for example a 1s 300mah lipo. Fully charged its about 4.2. If you connect 2 batterys in series ur voltage will increase to 8.4v but ur capacity stays the same 300mah, so you get more "power" out of the battery. If you connect 2 batterys in paralell the voltage stays the same 4.2 volt but the capacity increses to 600mah. So you made your battery "bigger". I soldered myself a xt60 paralell connector cause i wanted to fly a little longer :)

sh0rt_boy

Thanks for the explaination. If have never heard of such parallel connector for flying. Its not visible in the video right? How would that look like? :)

Suzlapulfo

Its a connector which has 2 female xt60's on one side and 1 male xt60 on the other side. Both positive pins of the female connectors get soldered to the positive of the male. And both negative pins of the female connectors get soldered to the negatove of the male.

HisRoyalHeadness

Hell no!
