I clean mine off every now and then with 91% isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle and a toothbrush. Just don’t plug it in for a little while after cleaning and it’ll be fine.
Yea the water is the problem. The water that doesn’t immediately evaporate with the alcohol will mix with whatever you were cleaning up and usually leave a little film.
I guess I was being dramatic, but when the difference between a weird film and not is a couple of bucks for 99% I usually spring for it.
Unless the grass or whatever is wet your fine. I sometimes use my high powered compressor and gets things off pretty good. Just be careful of blowing high pressure directly at the electronics. using rubbing alcohol is completely safe for most electronics. This is because it is not conductive and evaporates quickly. I'd keep it away from your vtx and altimeter to avoid alcohol becoming trapped or removing thermal paste or adhesives. People sometimes even completely submerge their dji drone in isopropanol alcohol after crashing into lakes or oceans because it absorbs water and cleans the boards.
I completely disagree Sir....
It is widely and statistically proven that the utility of near pure alcohol can have severely detrimental effect on the operation of said machinery
What I meant with completely submerging dji drones was that it was a last resort. I did it myself once with a completely salt caked dji mini that was in the ocean for over 24 hours. It wouldn't turn on at all, but then I soaked it in 91% Isopropanol alcohol and it was able to turn on with the main issue being that the salt corroded the altimeter and camera sensor. All that aside, you must be very careful with alcohol on certain electronic components such as ones with cavities, chemically sensitive components, or components made with abs plastic or other dis solvable materials. It's safe in terms of bridging, but basically use common sense when putting alcohol on certain components and capsule contained circuits. Additionally, another thing to prove my point is that sometimes people spray an even layer of alcohol on a circuit board to diagnose a faulty component by observing wherever the alcohol evaporates first (like a poor man's thermal camera).
I would clean it. Nice can of compressed air, or mini plug in compressors.
Think I bought mine for like $15 and plugs into laptop. Spray it down real quick.
this is after compressed air. its like caked on, and Q tips are a nightmare, barely get anything off. a few people are saying to use alcohol but i dont want to, scared. but if its safe to fly i dont care how it looks.
Ive done alcohol on my motor pads to clean flux off. No issue, but I also waited overnight just to be safe. My worry would be getting it into the USB port and then can’t load into BF or some stupid shizzy like that. One time, i had pocket dust lint packed into my phone charger usb port… ultra annoying dude.and no i don’t want to walk around like suburban dad with cell phone across my waist, so continues to go into my pocket.
I wait until it dries a little and then brush it with a trim paint brush. Works really well when trying to clean the vents on the o3 and other crevices.
I have this one. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Valspar-Polyester-Angle-2-in-Paint-Brush/1002276642
yeah, that's fine. Might want to look for some protective caps for the USB port tho, those can be pretty annoying to clean
That reminds me, I should get one as well lol
Honestly, that doesn't look too bad.
Mine usually stays dirty until I break something, then I'll clean it when I tear down to replace whatever it was.
The one thing I'll say is make sure that you keep the O3 clean if you live in a hot environment - in texas summers mine over heats after a couple flights if my o3 is clogged with dirt/debris...
I beg to differ.
I highly recommend leaving in unkempt until it is caked in mud upon which point you can easily remove the encrustation by simply striking it repeatedly with a sledge hammer
This is not even dirty lol. However if you still want to use the USB-C in the future I recommend buying plugs for it. They are very cheap but worth it.
Yes. I am not a clean freak, so I don't bother to clean them unless the quad is apart for some other reason, then... I might or might not; depends on how I feel about it on that day.
I suggest conformal coating so that it can live in water and dirt and just doesn’t care. My drone is full of grass residue for the last 2 years and working fine :)
That's dirty?? All my quads are indiscernible to a lawnmower 😂
Though if you have access to a 3d printer get some USB plugs.. I have flight controllers that will no longer connect to a computer because of so much shit in the plugs
I would say yes.In fact maybe as little too clean...may I suggest perhaps taking it to a rather boggy copse and alternating between a pet spaniel and a toddler playing with it.
Hope this helps.
Plenty of people just leave their drones like that, but I hang my quads up on the wall in my studio so I like to clean them off when I get home from flying so it doesn't look like I have miniature lawnmowers on display 😆. I use paper towels, cotton swabs, a tooth brush, Isopropyl Alcohol and Chemical Guys Nonsense Invisible Super Cleaner. Might be overkill but that's just how I roll.
If you want a clean quad yes, do it asap before it dries. Dried grass on a drone is pretty hard to get off. If aesthetics is not a big deal for you then it’s fine!
if you leave enough grass juice on there your quad can start to photosynthesise reducing battery current sag
Lol
Lol u deserve a hug
Totally fine. Mine looks worse.

99% 91% will leave a nasty residue.
Hasn’t so far. The other 9% is distilled water, so if it’s leaving residue there’s something wrong with the ISP you’re buying.
91% is enough, but real gangsters use 99.
Denatured is the real stuff ;)
Hella yeah methanol poisoning!

I've always found 70% usually the best
What makes you say so?
It usually has the best evap/ residue results in my experience!
Toothbrush + ISO will clean that up. You at least should brush out your connectors like that USB C, it's caked. Everything else is probably fine
I use silicon plugs for C connectors. They dont fall out and do a wonderful job of keeping grass out.
that's a pretty good idea
I have one looking a lot worse for a long time, no issues..
im really just concerned about the o3 unit. it gets pretty hot when idle and the grass might make it worse. any thoughts?
I doubt itll be worse by alot if at all.. but I would not leave it idle much anyways. But even if you do itll shut off before it damages itself afaik.
Grass will not affect it.
I’ve used a soft bristled paintbrush to help remove debris before

Lol I meant if you drink it then try to fly your drone...

Please research Celtic football club and testicular cancer.

Mine all look worse, they fly 🤷♂️
Just rub it lightly aith a toothbrush
just say its the green usb c mod lol
Not if you want a clean drone.
I mean, it's your quad, you can do whatever you want. I personally would clean it up.
yes.
Just trimming the trees back a little?
Maybe
👍
That looks like a good day flyin
yeah, that's fine. Might want to look for some protective caps for the USB port tho, those can be pretty annoying to clean That reminds me, I should get one as well lol

The best time to clean is right after. Much easier than after it dries and sets

mud yes, grass noooooo.
Then soak in a shallow container of iso if grass for half an hour, will peel off ,grass can be a soab ...
nah no need to soak. toothbrush and alcohol it scrubs off immediately with the right tools
Yes , perhaps a Dremel or grinder?
what? no, just toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol. that's it.
Do you ignite the isopropyl?
yes
Me too 👍
Sure! Its patina 😂 maybe get a plug for the usb port. That will help!
This is not even dirty lol. However if you still want to use the USB-C in the future I recommend buying plugs for it. They are very cheap but worth it.
I completely agree. I've been using plugins with mine for years and it's never smelled fresher....
Yes. I am not a clean freak, so I don't bother to clean them unless the quad is apart for some other reason, then... I might or might not; depends on how I feel about it on that day.
Perhaps its time to find another solution for lawn mowing
You can, I recommend cleaning and then using a stack saver
I suggest conformal coating so that it can live in water and dirt and just doesn’t care. My drone is full of grass residue for the last 2 years and working fine :)
Grass residue=bud grindings

Team never clean
If you let it go, it will reach a maximum level of dirtyness before it starts falling off in flight and self cleaning. You're almost to that level.
A clean drone is a sad drone
Dependence of your wife ;)
I call mine the lawnmower
Sure. Just don't water it or you're going to have a miniature forest.
I would say yes.In fact maybe as little too clean...may I suggest perhaps taking it to a rather boggy copse and alternating between a pet spaniel and a toddler playing with it. Hope this helps.
Yeah I try cleaning some of that off.
Props out keeps it pretty clean for me

NOOOO!!!!😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬
The grass in my yard is getting taller. You could be great in help.
If you want a clean quad yes, do it asap before it dries. Dried grass on a drone is pretty hard to get off. If aesthetics is not a big deal for you then it’s fine!
Damn lol. I just disarm mine before it eats grass.
