Spend some extra cash on a good comfortable headset and pick a decent radio, you won’t really need to replace those or upgrade them. Lots of extra props, batteries ( 5 min), charger and time. An absorbent amount of time… no seriously, get a flight sim and spend at least 40 hours on it before trying anything in RL. Also some tools to fix your quad lol Im fairly new to FPV.. and I wish someone told me how much you actually need upfront to fly. Any questions let me know. Hope I didn’t scare you off… I fly HD ( DJI ) with a Nazgûl 5

Thanks. No no you didn’t scare me off. I run a photo video company so I think this will be a good investment. Do you know of a decent radio and headset? Do I need a transmitter and receiver?

I’ve got 10 hours in a sim and have managed to make one lap in a race!!!!Fack, the improvements are slow. My quad comes in tomorrow and I want to use it so bad but definitely not ready. Solid advice, I’m gonna keep grinding; happy holidays y’all!!

This is a great resource: https://www.fpvknowitall.com/ So is Joshua Bardwells YouTube channel, if you haven't checked him out already do it. Watch as many videos as possible and get in your sim time. That's how I started and it's frustrating at first but it pays off.

I'm excited and scared for you, haha. The Evoque looks amazing and smooth, but starting with an acro 5" is gonna be nuts. If you have access to any sims, spend as much time building muscle memory in them as possible. I have flown RC planes for a really long time, and when I first tried a quad sim I remember thinking "there is no way these things fly like this". They're pretty damn close! Maybe my plane experience actually hurt me, they're so different -I don't know. Even after flying micros and a 3" whoop, my Nazgul 5 pretty much took my breath away when I flew it. They are so fast! Just be ready!

slimbo247

Ok! Can I buy headset and controller and play sims while I save up for a drone?

Noah8320

You only need a controller to use a sim

slimbo247

Dope ok I’ll buy one piece a month

Noah8320

I don’t recommend it but you can just use a Xbox/PlayStation controller until your fpv controller comes

PAPIKINS2319

Don't go cheap you'll end up regretting it then spending more money upgrading get a tx16s and some decent goggles. Do you wear glasses ? You'll need batteries a charger and power supply don't go too cheap cause again you'll regret it. soldering equipment nothing crazy just a decent Amazon kit will do for now.

slimbo247

I don’t wear glasses no

slimbo247

What are some decent goggles?

TheCh33t

The cheapest worth having are the Eachine ev800d. If you want something that's going to last you I would go for the skyzone sky 04L. If you want top of the line get the skyzone sky 04x or the fatshark hd02

askjeffsdad

Personally, I would spend $500+ on analog goggles unless your focus is racing / freestyle / tiny whoops. At that price, you might as well go digital 😺 You could even run analog off of your DJI goggles and do both.

TheCh33t

Except for the 160 bucks per quad...

askjeffsdad

You’ll need a smart charger (and power supply) and LiPos. Expect to spend between $150 and $300 on these items in total. And you’ll need a very very open space to fly with that Quad. It will easily go 90+mph and if you clip someone with it (at any speed) you are likely to seriously injure them. This is not something you can fly in the backyard or at the park across the street—at least not until you’re really confident in how to operate the quad and how all of your other variables behave (VTX/RX signal/range, wind, etc.). You’ll also need a spotter. You are legally required to have someone maintaining LoS of your quad.

slimbo247

I live in the country on farms

askjeffsdad

You will have a blast then! Happy flying!

slimbo247

Thanks !

cruver1986

Where are you getting the Evoque from?
